Court frees singer Yasin of drug charges, orders him admitted to Hospital Bahagia

The Petaling Jaya Sessions Court has acquitted and discharged nasyid singer and composer Muhammad Yasin Sulaiman on three drug charges.  However, judge Faiz Dziyauddin ordered Muhammad Yasin, 48, to be placed at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak, at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. 00:07 Mohamed Yasin Sulaiman on three drug charges.

00:11 When handing out the decision on Wednesday, Judge Faiz Jiyauddin said after examining

00:16 testimony of the prosecution and defence witnesses, the court found that the accused had committed

00:22 the acts on March 24, 2022, as stated in the three charges.

00:28 Nevertheless, the symptoms of mania experienced by Yasin at that time caused cognitive impairment

00:34 to such a severe level that he was unable to know that the act was wrong and against

00:39 the law.

00:40 As such, in accordance with Section 348(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code, the court

00:45 hereby ruled that the accused be placed under safe custody at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta

00:52 in Perang, at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor, as provided under Section 348(2)

01:00 of the law.

01:01 When met after the proceedings, Yasin said he was thankful that the court freed him of

01:06 the drug charges.

01:22 His older brother Zain Sulaiman said Yasin was stunned when he heard the court's decision.
