00:24U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted her official nomination as the Democratic
00:30Party's presidential candidate for the November election.
00:38The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas denounced that the objective of Israel and
00:43the United States is to continue the genocide against the civilian Gazan population.
00:54Hello and welcome to From the South, my name is Belén de los Santos, I'm from the Televisor
00:58Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:01Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro visited the municipality of Zamora in the state of
01:05Miranda as part of the National People's Consultation 2024 that will be held next Sunday, August
01:1125th.
01:12During his visit to the state of Miranda, the Venezuelan president assured that the
01:16power of the country lies in the Venezuelan people, a reality that is expressed in the
01:22communal councils that today play an important role in the development of social and productive
01:27projects.
01:28In this regard, the Venezuelan head of state urged the population of the community to attend
01:32and participate in the People's Consultation next Sunday.
01:37He also reiterated that he will support and finance the project chosen by each community,
01:42according to their needs, in order to repair the damage caused by the sanctions imposed
01:47by the U.S. government.
01:55Now with the consultation this coming Sunday, August 25th, immediately approved, certified,
02:02the project approved by each circuit, pickety, the money has to come down right there.
02:09I have something that I have been thinking about, that I have been talking to Hector.
02:14I was talking with Celia, with Alfred Nazaret, and I told Prado the other day that I am looking
02:21for some money to finance 4,505 productive projects, nothing more than productive.
02:29We are healing wounds created by the criminal economic sanctions requested by the ultra-right
02:34and the fascist surnames.
02:37On Tuesday, a video call was leaked in which a Venezuelan influencer based in Argentina
02:42revealed how much he was paid to publish content on his social networks with the aim of reinforcing
02:47the idea of fraud promoted by the Venezuelan ultra-right wing.
02:52Let's see.
03:03I need content related to everything that is happening in Venezuela.
03:07The global price would be 400.
03:10It would be two videos in Instagram, two in TikTok, plus the 8 stories for these two weeks.
03:18I'm not going to be in Con el Masajando.
03:22It is necessary to emphasize on the minutes, on the kidnappings, and based on that I prepare
03:28a content.
03:30I turn on the phone and say what is going on.
03:33Now, what happens is that I work in advance, and here in Buenos Aires I can go to the spot
03:40and record right, interview the people.
03:51In this sense, the government of Venezuela has denounced that the ultra-right has resorted
03:55to artists, YouTubers and influencers in order to destabilize the country and establish
04:00a narrative that casts doubts on the results of the presidential elections of last July's
04:0528th.
04:06In this sense, it is worth mentioning that the recent statements made by the artist Puma
04:10Rodriguez who revealed having been intimidated by Venezuelan radical opposition with the
04:14purpose of influencing the electoral scenario.
04:22And we now move on to other topics.
04:24Outstanding Peruvian personalities denounced Presidentina Boluarte before the International
04:28Criminal Court, holding her and other authorities accountable for the 49 deaths from repression
04:35of social protests.
04:37The allegation was announced by 16 plaintiffs, including former Prime Minister Mirta Vazquez,
04:43the then foreign minister Diego Garcia, and former ambassadors Oswaldo de Rivero and Harold
04:49Forres.
04:51The communique details that the president is the main culprit of the deaths occurred
04:56during the protests that were held in the country from December 2022 to February 2023.
05:02It also described the situation as a severe damage of the principles of representative
05:07democracy and added that it represents a series of serious human rights violations that cannot
05:14go unpunished.
05:19And a report from the Unified Registry of Violence Against Homeless People stated that
05:24between August 15th, 2023 and August 15th, 2024, 135 homeless people have died in Argentina.
05:34According to the agency, this represents one on average, one death in public spaces every
05:39two and a half days, while cases of institutional violence against the population have increased
05:45by 500% year on year.
05:48Furthermore, the report evidenced that almost a third part of the cases were acts of violence
05:54perpetrated by security forces or public officials.
05:58In addition, it showcased that out of the deaths recorded, most of them occurred in
06:03the city of Buenos Aires, followed by the provinces of Buenos Aires, Salta and Santa
06:09Fe.
06:16And on Tuesday, a cargo ship was quarantined in Argentina due to a suspected case of mpox
06:21virus.
06:23In this sense, the Ministry of Health authorities ordered the isolation of the cargo ship from
06:27Brazil in the Paraná River after a crew member was found to have symptoms compatible with
06:33mpox disease.
06:34Meanwhile, the ship known as the Inalote remains at the entrance of the port of San Lorenzo
06:40de Rosario, 310 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires.
06:46On the other hand, Director of Health Promotion and Prevention of the Province of Santa Fe,
06:51Analia Chumpidas, pointed out that although no cases of the new variant of mpox have been
06:57yet reported in Argentina, health authorities continue to prioritize epidemiological surveillance
07:02for detection, early diagnosis, appropriate care and application of isolation and contact
07:07tracing measures for possible cases.
07:16On Tuesday, different Latin American experts debated on lawfare and the phenomenon of judicial
07:21and media persecution for political purposes in the region.
07:25The Lawfare Observatory, the platform that organized the debate, invited specialists
07:30from Argentina, Peru and Ecuador, among other countries, to analyze lawfare as a power device
07:37that affects people's democracy.
07:39On the behalf of Argentina, Elisabeth Gómez Alcorta, lawyer of the popular leader of indigenous
07:44roots Milagro Sala, referred to how lawfare manifests itself through the intervention
07:49of the political, judicial and media powers.

08:07Welcome back to From the South.
08:25In the United States, Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday formally accepted her official
08:30nomination as Democratic Party's presidential candidate for the November election.
08:35During a rally in the city of Milwaukee, held simultaneously with the second day of
08:40the convention being held in Chicago, Harris officially accepted the nomination.
08:45It should be noted that Kamala Harris, age 59, secured a Democratic nomination for president
08:50earlier this month when she won the support of 99% of the delegates at a virtual meeting
08:56of the Democratic National Committee.
08:59Delegates, please know how critical you are to this process, both now and earlier this
09:07month when we conducted our virtual roll call.
09:11I am thrilled to reaffirm Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for president of the
09:17United States.
09:22This is not just about us versus Donald Trump.
09:25This is about two very different visions for our nation.
09:31One, ours, focused on the future.
09:35The other, focused on the past.
09:39And Wisconsin, we fight for the future.
09:44We fight for the future.
09:48And in this context, outside the Democratic convention in Chicago, dozens of pro-Palestinian
09:53protesters clashed with police officers on Tuesday.
09:57During the clashes, American flags were seen burning while chants of Free Palestine were
10:02chanted in front of the Israeli consulate, located near the United Center site of the
10:08convention.
10:09Protesters attempted to break through a barrier of riot police in front of the building that
10:14houses the consulate in their demand that the country stop support to the genocide being
10:21carried out by Israel on Gaza.
10:46We now go to the situation in Gaza as Israel pursues dropping bombs in the strip, evading
10:52a ceasefire and slaughtering at least 52 Palestinians in the last 24 hours.
10:57The Wafaa News Agency revealed that at least one Gazan was killed due to an Israeli airstrike
11:03on the house of the Al-Khatib family in the Javalia refugee camp.
11:07On Tuesday evening, the shelling left several people injured, including children.
11:12The attacks further killed 12 people in the school in Gaza and nine in a crowded market
11:17area in Dera Wala, where about one million people have been displaced.
11:22And in the last hours, the occupation army issued even more evacuation orders.
11:31What did we do to them and what do they want from us and why are we being targeted?
11:37We are children and have nothing to do with it.
11:41We were sleeping and did nothing and I woke up and found myself covered in rubble and
11:45I couldn't breathe.
11:47I want to go to my family.
11:52There is significant destruction as a result of this attack.
11:56The occupation is clearly targeting homes with large missiles.
12:01The area and surroundings that were targeted a short while ago have been heavily damaged.
12:06In this context, Palestinian resistance movement Hamas denounced that the objective of Israel
12:11and the United States is to continue the genocide against the civilian population of
12:15the Gaza Strip.
12:16The high official of the Palestinian movement, Osama Hamdan, said he agreed with the proposal
12:21presented by U.S. President Joe Biden, but assured that they did not convince the Israeli
12:27prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
12:29He also warned that the Israelis have left aside the important issues of the Washington
12:34plan and are not willing to accept it.
12:37On the other hand, Hamdan emphasized that any agreement must include five basic issues,
12:43starting with the end of the aggression, the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the reconstruction
12:48of the Gaza Strip.

13:30Welcome back to From the South.
13:32In Iran, a bus carrying Shaiti pilgrims from Pakistan to Iraq crashed on Tuesday evening,
13:38claiming at least 28 lives.
13:40According to authorities, the vehicle got overturned and caught fire on the outskirts
13:44of Taft City, with 51 pilgrims aboard.
13:49In addition to the 28 fatalities, another 23 were injured in the accident, 14 under
13:54serious health conditions.
13:56The Pakistani pilgrims were crossing over Iran to reach Karbala, Iraq, in order to attend
14:02the annual Arba'in march to mark 40 days since the death of Imam Hussain, one of the
14:09most significant days for Shia Islam.
14:17Unfortunately, we report 28 deaths and 23 injured, a total of 51 casualties.
14:23The bus was carrying Pakistani pilgrims on their way from Pakistan to Iraq for Arba'in
14:27rituals.
14:28It went off the road in Dishir County, Taft City, Yazd Province, due to lack of control
14:32of the vehicle driver, unfamiliarity with the road, high speed and technical problems.
14:39We go now to Sudan, as the country is being affected by a cholera outbreak that has been
14:44on the rise for the last few weeks, pushing the death toll up to 22.
14:49In this context, the acting minister of health of the Gazala state, Ali Adam, confirmed over
14:54300 cholera cases in the county lately.
14:57Experts found the last outbreak two weeks ago with pocket infections detected in the
15:02towns of Gazala, Al-Jazeera and Qartoum.
15:06The Sudanese health crisis has been aggravated by the violent clashes between the armed forces
15:12and the paramilitary groups destroying civilian infrastructure and further damaging a battered
15:17health care system.
15:19If there is a suspected case of cholera, the patient is transferred to the emergency and
15:29isolation department.
15:30Doctors are available 24-7, physicians classify and stabilize the case, and if it is proven
15:36to be a cholera case, they start treatment immediately, if it is not, the patient is
15:40sent home after being stabilized.
15:42This hospital is not able to accept many cases.
15:48Speaking of the news, on Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin arrived in the Russian Republic
15:52of Chechnya to visit the University of Special Forces in the city of Gdansk.
15:58Putin met with the commanders of special units, instructors and volunteers from all over Russia
16:03who want to move to the Ukrainian conflict zone and are being trained there.
16:08On site, he was shown samples of foreign weapons seized during the fighting in the Ukrainian
16:12conflict zone, as well as samples of medical equipment of both Russian and foreign manufacture.
16:19In this sense, Putin praised and thanked the volunteers for their difficult decision.
16:24As long as we have men like this, you will be absolutely invincible, the president stressed.
16:42We go now to sports, as on Wednesday, the first delegations to attend the Paris Paralympic
16:51Games arrived at the Village of Athletes.
16:54In Paris, the Village of Athletes officially opened its doors a week earlier at the beginning
16:59of the Paralympics.
17:01The Games will kick off on Wednesday, and at the opening ceremony, 180 delegations will
17:07parade from the Champs-Élysées to the Place de la Concorde.
17:11A total of 4,400 athletes will be participating in the respective competitions.
17:17After 11 days, the Paris Paralympic Games will hold its closing ceremony on Sunday,
17:22September 8.
17:24Some participants of the event shared their opinions on the matter.
17:33Just like all the athletes, I'd like to be awarded the gold medal.
17:36We're going to do our best to achieve that.
17:39I think the Paralympics should be even better.
17:43We are people with disabilities and we want to play sport just like everyone else.
17:48We also want to be recognized as athletes, like everyone else.
17:52We are here to make the world know that, yes, we are also part of sports.
18:02And we are here to compete with the world.
