The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has encouraged major supermarket chains like Lotus’s Stores (M) Sdn Bhd (Lotus's Malaysia) to expand their presence in Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan, with an aim on promoting its Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign.

Speaking after launching the 2024 Lotus’s Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM) in Setia Alam on Thursday (Aug 15), Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali highlighted that the expansion would offer consumers in these regions more choices while fostering healthy competition.

00:00In the speech just now, was there any hope that the protest will be held in Sabah, is that serious?
00:08Yes, we assume that if more markets are opened in certain countries, including Sabah,
00:20it will not only give choices to the users, but it will also create healthy competition.
00:29And if you look at the example I gave earlier, the price of chicken,
00:35through the rules and strategies of purchasing the chicken by Lotus,
00:43they have been able to offer chicken for RM6.99 for one kilogram for a long time,
00:56compared to the very high prices in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
01:03That is why we invite, if they can, especially in addition to choosing,
01:10offering at a reasonable price, why don't they expand the market in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.
01:19Dato, how can the Ministry facilitate the realization of this dream in Sabah?
01:26How can we facilitate the opening of Lotus in Sabah?
01:29Okay, KPDN is a responsible ministry in controlling the market in this lockdown sector.
01:39And if Lotus or any other market does not have branches in the affected countries,
01:52and if we can get them to provide a good offer to the users,
01:58we will help to facilitate their process of opening their branches.
02:05They already have a license and dealings with the state, with the PBT,
02:12and through the branches of KPDN in the affected countries and also related branches,
02:20we are ready to provide any form of assistance related to facilitate the entire process.
