Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that no country would ever surrender even an inch of its land or a small rock to another nation, let alone a “great country” like Malaysia, as he reflected on the Pulau Batu Puteh issue.
In his National Day address in Putrajaya on Friday (Aug 30), the Prime Minister announced that the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on sovereignty concerns regarding Batu Puteh would be debated both within Parliament and by the public.

00:00In the recent past, we have seen the example of Suranjaya, Batu Putih.
00:05There are not many countries in the world that look at anything.
00:09One inch of land, one small rock, is easily handed over to another country.
00:18Yes, we accept the reality, the decision.
00:23ICG is out of Batu Putih.
00:28Yes, but because of our cowardice.
00:33Cowardice brings treachery to the country.
00:37There is no country in the world that easily let go of an area.
00:42Countries are at war.
00:46Thousands of lives are lost just to defend a small area.
00:51That is why the Madani government agreed to hold a Suranjaya in Raja.
00:59And decided what really happened.
01:03Why this country, a great country, beloved by Malaysia,
01:09can allow such treachery.
01:11I think it was easily let go without using legal means to defend our rights.
01:19If people really think this is a small matter,
01:23there is a problem with their attitude as a child of Malaysia.
01:29Because this has never happened in the history of the world.
01:33Easily.
01:35Because of that, we will hold a debate in the parliament.
01:41We will allow an open debate in and outside the parliament
01:47to be a lesson to the children of the nation in the future.
01:54That this country was formed with bitterness,
02:01tears, blood, and struggle for hundreds of years
02:06against the colonizer for the sake of the colonizer.
02:12And cannot be sacrificed for their interests.
02:18Yes.
02:20It has happened.
02:22But education is a must.
02:26And I use this opportunity,
02:30this freedom welcome,
02:33to remind us, especially the young people,
02:39the next generation children,
02:46will determine the direction of this country.
