Jets GM Joe Douglas Faces Holdout Dilemma with Reddick

00:00Joe Douglas is what we call an old school GM.
00:07He wants things done a certain way.
00:10Old school GMs typically will not negotiate with an agent unless the player shows up.
00:14And Radek has not shown up.
00:16You mentioned $50,000 a day.
00:17Remember what happened with Chris Jones a couple of years ago?
00:21And he wound up really not getting what he wanted until last year, of course, when he
00:25got his deal done.
00:26So it doesn't help you by not showing up.
00:29Half of life, as they say, is showing up.
00:31And it's not like the Jets didn't know that he wanted a new deal.
00:33They talked to his agent and son at the time of the trade, but they could not get that
00:38deal done then.
00:39And you fast forward to now, and you have an ugly situation now.
00:43Will McDonald, by the way, the first round pick out of last year out of Iowa State, I'm
00:46told, has done very well in his place.
00:48But he's not as accomplished, obviously, as Radek, who, by the way, turns 30 this fall.
00:53He's scheduled to make just over $14 million.
00:55None of that money is guaranteed.
00:57Radek, I'm told, wanted somewhere over $25 million a year was what he was looking for.
01:02I don't know how we'd view it now that the Brian Burns deal got done, which is over $28
01:06million.
01:07Now, Burns is younger, no question about it, but a terrific player, great for the community.
01:12And by the way, we have to remember this, he's from the New Jersey area.
01:16This is a great way to end his career if he gets his deal.
01:19And this is not what the Jets wanted.
01:21But Scott, I could tell you my experience of covering these situations is clubs typically
01:27believe they're going to get a deal done or they won't do it.
01:31And it's not like this is a secret.
01:32They were dealing with Asana and his agent at the time of the trade in March.
01:36That's why it's so surprising that a deal's not done.
01:39I get it.
01:40There's still three weeks left, just under four weeks until the season starts.
01:42But this is not the kind of situation you want with Aaron Rodgers healthy.
01:46There's a lot of optimism around the Jets will be with the Jets next week when they
01:50rejoin practice with the Giants.
01:52But bottom line is, this is not a good story for them.
01:54This should not have happened.
01:55By the way, the Eagles knew it.
01:57They were not going to extend Redick's deal.
01:59They're not going to pay Asana what he wanted.
02:01They got what they thought was a good deal, a future 2025 third-round pick that could
02:06be as much as a second.
02:08So right now, the Eagles obviously are keeping an eye on this.
02:11And maybe they knew something because a deal is not getting done or will not even be talked
02:15about.
02:16Joe Douglas put it out there.
02:17That's a statement from the club.
02:18I mean, this is actually real.
02:20I know this guy.
02:21He's not going to deal with this unless Asana shows up, then we'll start looking at it.
