Speaking at the opening of the Malaysia Commercialisation Year 2024 Summit on Monday (Aug 12), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said public-funded organisations should not to operate like private entities in the implementation of their programmes and operations.

He said this is to ensure there are no "excesses" that lean towards business interests, board members, or management.

00:00We have to accept that Malamuq and the rest of the Muslim family are based on public funds.
00:18Thus, in ensuring the implementation of the program, we want to make sure that there is no delay in giving focus.
00:30And do not make this body a private body that sometimes sees not only from the point of view of business, but also from the point of view of its employees and management.
00:42Therefore, the new head of state audit gives a push so that the monitoring is more detailed and transparent.
00:49And this we have to make as a new culture. How can we raise the level of the state and also in the issue of innovation.
00:58If the basis of governance is not pressured, that is the first.
01:05The second is the management. It is not just asking to continue the old work.
01:12Now we are dealing with the spirit of innovation.
01:15Innovation is like exploring the nature and fields, as well as discipline and new discoveries.
01:24We have to be ready, open the board, explore the nature, and the expertise must always be evaluated.
01:34Our greatness is not just compared to last year or 10 years ago.
01:39Our greatness is compared to the progress achieved by other countries.
01:44Whether there are neighbors or other countries.
01:49If we only improve the past achievements, which sometimes the level is very low, we will not achieve anything that we are proud of.
01:58So even though this is the MCY Summit, I want to emphasize the old decisions so that they can be implemented well.
02:05Because this will provide a big framework for what is needed in the country as a whole.
02:14We mentioned the Global Innovation Index.
02:18Indeed, our standards are not too low, but the 36th place is not proud.
02:2536 out of 132 countries.
02:28Because we have a more early basis, which should be more prepared, to take a leap.
02:35So I hope that we have the courage and seriousness to try to take a leap.
02:46I need to emphasize this point.
02:49We mentioned our success story.
02:54Yes, we have to acknowledge that, Alhamdulillah.
02:57But always in relation to the past.
03:01When I asked for a report, I gave the staff two weeks to submit a report.
03:05What about our performance in relation to the success and achievements of our neighbors?
03:13Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia.
03:18We were quite amazed because there was clearly relative success in many fields achieved by our neighbors,
03:32compared to what we have registered.
