Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed critics questioning his decision to present the matter of Datuk Seri Najib Razak's Titah Addendum to His Majesty the King, Sultan Ibrahim, who chairs the Pardons Board, as uninformed and uninterested in understanding the truth.

Speaking at the launch of the FLYsiswa Carnival and Madani Student Transportation Carnival at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam on Thursday (Dec 12), the Prime Minister emphasised that as someone who has experienced imprisonment, he firmly believes in the right of every individual, including prisoners, to appeal for a pardon.

Anwar also expressed his intention to engage with students on the matter, providing insights into the legal processes involved.

00:00Many issues have arisen.
00:02In the parliament yesterday,
00:04no, it's been two days,
00:06in Selasa,
00:08I had to answer
00:10about the addendum
00:12on the case
00:14involving
00:16several villages.
00:18It was discussed.
00:22Children have to think.
00:24What is the issue?
00:26The issue is
00:28the process, law, and path.
00:30Who was the one who preached?
00:32The Prime Minister
00:34in the past.
00:36When did the law
00:38fall?
00:40The Prime Minister in the past.
00:42Who is being discussed?
00:44The current Prime Minister.
00:48I am not involved in preaching.
00:50I am not involved in the law.
00:52But,
00:54I do not deny.
00:56One of the hardest issues
00:58was attacking
01:00the issue of 1MDB
01:02because
01:04of the people's wealth
01:06and the loss to the country.
01:08Is it true or not?
01:10It's true.
01:12How much loss did we have to pay
01:14due to the loss of 1MDB?
01:18Rp48 billion.
01:20Rp48 billion.
01:24Remember?
01:26Rp48 billion.
01:30How many schools can we build?
01:32How many universities can we build?
01:34How many hospitals can we build?
01:36How many children can we help?
01:38But, we followed
01:40the process of law.
01:44Then, the Ministry of Forgiveness.
01:46Oh!
01:48Someone was angry because I brought
01:50the case of Dato' Sri Najib
01:52to be considered by
01:54the Ministry of Forgiveness
01:56which was promoted by Mr. Ago.
02:00I was still imprisoned
02:02during the first Mahathir and the second Dato' Sri Najib.
02:04But, now
02:06I am the Prime Minister.
02:08I cannot hold a grudge
02:10and be stubborn.
02:12The rights of every leader
02:14and every person,
02:16without exception,
02:18has the right to make a complaint
02:20about the Ministry of Forgiveness.
02:22Therefore, when I saw that there was no agenda
02:24in the meeting,
02:26the complaint of Dato' Sri Najib,
02:28I said, no.
02:30I prostrated to His Excellency Mr. Ago at that time.
02:32I said, forgive me, sir.
02:36Everyone has the right
02:40to ask
02:42whether they want to be considered
02:44by the Ministry of Forgiveness
02:46or approved by His Excellency.
02:48But,
02:50the right to make a complaint must be there.
02:52On the one hand,
02:54I was angry because I brought the agenda.
02:56Whereas, I only used
02:58my responsibility
03:00to be fair
03:02to be considered.
03:06Why did I say this?
03:08Because, whether it was wrong or not,
03:10I was already in jail.
03:12There must be
03:14kindness or humanity.
03:16We asked to be considered.
03:18Will the Ministry of Forgiveness
03:20be considered
03:22according to the complaint?
03:24It's up to them.
03:26Finally, the decision was made by Mr. Ago.
03:28This is also wrong.
03:30Then,
03:32the question of addendum
03:34was raised.
03:36Now, I can't repeat it because
03:38the case in the Court of Appeal
03:40was decided on 6 January.
03:44I want the children to think
03:46whether this issue
03:48should be known
03:50by the Faculty of Law.
03:52Is there anyone from the Faculty of Law, UITM, etc.?
03:54Is there?
03:58You must know
04:00the process.
04:02This is the rule of law.
04:04There are processes
04:06and laws.
04:10So,
04:12if there is a case in the Court of Appeal,
04:14the Parliament
04:16or we can't discuss it openly.
04:18It's called subjudicial.
04:22So, we have to wait.
04:24That's the respect for the process of the law.
04:26When I answered like that,
04:28they were angry.
04:30They wanted to deceive and protect
04:32the addendum.
04:34This is what I said
04:36happened because
04:38of lack of knowledge.
04:40Because the information
04:42was not conveyed.
04:44Because our culture is sometimes
04:46narrow-minded.
04:48Read only a little bit.
04:50There is no practice of reading
04:52to find the truth.
04:54There is no speech about Malay,
04:56speech about Islam.
04:58There is no morality.
05:00There is no interest to find the truth.
05:02So, everything
05:04will be raised as a problem.
05:06Whether as
05:08Malay extremist,
05:10Chinese extremist or Indian extremist.
05:12Are there any Indian children?
05:16No Indian children?
05:18There are UITM
05:20and other universities.
05:22Okay.
05:24India doesn't admit it.
05:28Sometimes,
05:30if Anthony Luke or Zamri knows,
05:32we try to help
05:34everyone.
05:36Not only through Mitra.
05:38In the past,
05:40the help from India
05:42was only through Mitra.
05:44Now, there is Tekun.
05:46We also give Aman Akhtiar.
05:48But we don't say
05:50this is an Indian program, this is a Chinese program,
05:52this is a Dayak program. No.
05:54We give to those who deserve it.
05:56But in this speech,
05:58Allah says,
06:00there is no defense.
06:02Okay. Why am I
06:04discussing all these issues in this
06:06students' meeting?
06:08What is the relevance?
06:10Because students
06:12must be
06:14leaders
06:16who know
06:18the truth and justice.
06:24We control certain
06:26disciplines.
06:28But don't
06:30leave it
06:32that human values
06:34are based on truth,
06:36justice, and ethics.
06:40Don't forget.
06:42You may excel
06:44in your discipline,
06:46but never
06:48forget. Ignore the fact
06:50that finally,
06:52it's about character.
06:54It's about
06:56inculcating
06:58ethical and moral values.
07:00The nation,
07:02this great nation can only
07:04be saved if we have
07:08the younger generation, the youth,
07:10with that sort
07:12of dedication,
07:14awareness that we
07:16want to excel and succeed,
07:18but we must never lose
07:20sight of our principles
07:22and values and dignity
07:24of men and women.
