00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:07It is Amelia.
00:08I hope you are fine.
00:09Thanos was famously defeated by the Avengers in the MCU upon the completion of the decade-long
00:15Infinity Saga, though that shouldn't suggest he's gone forever.
00:18Obviously, there are other versions of Thanos who exist in the wider multiverse, as fans
00:23have seen in What If and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but that's not
00:28how the Mad Titan can return, as there's another, much more chilling way Thanos can
00:33make an MCU comeback, and it's totally comic accurate.
00:37In Thanos No. 4 by Christopher Cantwell, Luca Pijali, and German Peralta, the Mad Titan
00:43is launching a deadly strike against Death herself.
00:46This storyline started with Thanos trying to rescue Death after she trapped herself
00:51within the body of a human in order to experience life for the first time.
00:55This disgusted Thanos, so he sought to free his mistress from the fleshy prison of her
01:01own making.
01:02Death was not pleased.
01:03So, disillusioned by his former love interest, Thanos lashed out at Death and in doing so
01:08threatened the entire cosmos.
01:10As explained by Doctor Strange and the other members of the Illuminati that were standing
01:15on the sidelines, the very battle between Thanos and Death is enough to destroy the
01:20planet and even potentially the entire known universe, especially if Thanos were to lose.
01:26One might think that killing the living embodiment of Death would be the worst-case scenario.
01:30But as Doctor Strange reminded fans, Thanos' defeat would result in his essence merging
01:35with Death, thereby recreating a version of someone or something.
01:39Long forgotten in Marvel Comics canon when Thanos briefly died, his essence merged with
01:44that of Mistress Death, and together they created their child, Rot.
01:48Rot is considered both alive and dead.
01:50Given that Death and Thanos are Rot's parents, though it's not exactly sentient in a way
01:55that normal characters are.
01:57The Rot is essentially a living void, an amorphous blob of perpetual darkness that quite literally
02:03rots or immediately disintegrates everything it touches.
02:07Nothing except the combined might of Thanos and Death can destroy Rot, not even eternity
02:12itself, which was actually vulnerable Thanos died in Avengers Endgame after Tony Stark
02:17used the Infinity Gauntlet to snap him out of existence and fans saw him turn to dust
02:22right before their very eyes.
02:24But, what if his life wasn't necessarily ended so much as his essence was absorbed into Death
02:29itself?
02:30While that would normally mean the same thing to most mortals, Marvel Comics reminds fans
02:35that Thanos is decidedly not most mortals.
02:38When he dies, Thanos has the potential to give life to something far greater than himself,
02:43an enemy that is nearly unstoppable.
02:45Thanos could potentially come back as an adapted version of Rot in the MCU, allowing
02:50the greatest live-action Marvel villain the chance to make a dramatic comeback without
02:55undoing or ignoring his previously established character development and his return would
03:00be completely comic accurate.
