00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:08It is Amelia.
00:09I hope you are fine.
00:10Millie Alcock returns as Rai Nira Targaryen in House of the Dragons Season 2, Episode
00:163.
00:17A welcome surprise after her exit from the show back in Season 1.
00:21Alcock, of course, originated the role.
00:23But House of the Dragons cast changed in Season 1, Episode 6.
00:27After a 10-year time jump, with Emma Diackie stepping into the role, alongside Olivia
00:32Cook taking over from Emily Carey as Alicent Hightower, it was thought that we'd seen the
00:38last of them.
00:39But Alcock, at the very least, is back.
00:41Her version of Rai Nira appears to Daemon Targaryen after he has taken Harrenhal.
00:46But it's not exactly a pleasant reunion, building off blood and cheese killing Jaehaerys Targaryen.
00:52Whether on the orders of Daemon or not, she comes to him in a vision, sewing Jaehaerys
00:57head back onto his body.
00:59It's a dark scene, and a great one, I'm delighted to see Alcock back, and it should have an
01:04impact on Daemon moving forward.
01:06Although House of the Dragon recasting actors made sense, and Emma Diackie is ridiculously
01:11good in the role, it was always a little bit of a shame that Alcock had to depart so early.
01:16She was responsible for audiences investing in Rai Nira so much to begin with, and so
01:21there would long been hope the show would find some way to have her return.
01:26Seananarayan Kondal and his team agreed, and bringing her back is a great way of servicing
01:31fans and honouring just how important she was in developing the character and story.
01:36In terms of how she comes back, it's a smart choice that goes well beyond a simple flashback.
01:41Harrenhal is a cursed place that can mess with a person's mind anyway, but the presence
01:46of Aelys Reverse adds to this.
01:48She is described by some accounts in the book as a witch, and has powers and potions that
01:53can meddle with people's thoughts and feelings, which she is seemingly doing to Daemon here.
01:58Exactly why she'd want to torment him is unclear, though he has just taken over the castle she
02:03calls home, and she may not be too happy with his presence, nor his actions in the war.
02:09So she is the one ostensibly feeding him these visions, and his mind would be particularly
02:13susceptible given he arrived carrying so much anger from his fight with Rai Nira.
02:18It may be playing tricks on him anyway, especially in a place like Harrenhal.
02:23And if his mind is going to be tormented, who better than Alcock's Rai Nira?
