AccuWeather forecasters say a new tropical depression could be named in the Caribbean between Aug. 12 and 14.

00:00But we need to watch this tropical wave over the east-central Atlantic, battling some dry air for the next few days, for the weekend, no development.
00:07But next week, we do expect to see some development near the northern Leeward Islands and the Lesser Antilles there.
00:13We will be dealing with the pretty good chance of this becoming a tropical depression or stronger Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, in that time range, between the Lesser Antilles and Hispaniola.
00:25It's on a trajectory that probably will run it through some of the larger islands, which will keep it probably a weak storm initially.
00:32I just wanted to take a look at how these storms are steered this time of the year.
00:36And the Bermuda-Azores High, when it's large, you see that darker shade of purple?
00:41That is typically the footprint that this strong Bermuda High exerts in terms of steering influences.
00:47And it blocks storms from turning north, it shunts them west, and they become more of a Gulf of Mexico situation.
00:53The Bermuda-Azores High is a little farther east, and we have a client in Bermuda.
00:58We do the daily weather forecast every Monday to Friday for a station in Bermuda called ZBM.
01:03And they say Z instead of Z in Bermuda.
01:06It's a fascinating place, 60,000-70,000 people there.
01:08Smaller than the city limits of Erie, PA, pretty isolated area, but we do the weather for them every Monday through Friday.
01:14So we're keeping an eye on that area frequently, so we always have our eye on what's going on out this way.
01:19And the Bermuda High is farther east right now.
01:22So we watch these storms, and this one is not fully committed to that eastern spot.
01:27It's kind of a hybrid of the two, so it'll likely pull north, but it may still impact the southeast U.S. or stay west of Bermuda.
01:34We'll have to watch that for next weekend.
