00:00Welcome back everyone.
00:07It is Amelia.
00:08I hope you are fine.
00:09The Boys star Karen Fukuhara explains Kimiko's climactic moment in the season 4 final.
00:15After joining the show in season 1, the voluntarily mute Kimiko has become a major figure as part
00:21of Butcher's Kaal Urban team attempting to take down Homelander and War.
00:25Kimiko's dynamic with Frenchie Tomokaporn played an especially important role in season
00:304.
00:31But the pair's story took a tragic turn in the Boys' season 4 final when Frenchie was
00:35brainwashed and hauled away, with Kimiko uttering her first words in the form of a scream of
00:40anguish.
00:41In a recent interview with Variety, Fukuhara explains Kimiko speaking for the first time
00:46the Boys' season 4 final and the journey to get to that moment.
00:50The actor also touches on how thrilling it was when she first saw that Kimiko speaks
00:54in the final script.
00:56While earlier episodes of the Boys' season 4 seemingly reinforced that the dynamic between
01:01Frenchie and Kimiko is purely platonic, the final sees the two characters share a passionate
01:06kiss.
01:07This major development in their relationship only makes Frenchie's brainwashing hit that
01:11much harder.
01:12The last audiences see of the pair in the Boys' season 4 final is of Frenchie getting
01:17into a van while Kimiko struggles to go after him.
01:20Since Frenchie is now seemingly under Kate's, Maddie Phillips' control, he could potentially
01:25become an antagonist in the Boys' season 5, which will serve as the show's last.
01:30It would certainly be tragic, after all, if Kimiko is forced to fight against the person
01:35she cares about most in the world.
01:37It's entirely possible, however, that Kate will also use her powers to brainwash Kimiko,
01:42since it doesn't look like Fukuhara's character is able to escape from Sam, Asa German.
01:48Without delving into spoilers from the Boys' comic series, the prime video show doesn't
01:52seem like one that will give all of its characters happy endings.
01:56Frenchie and Kimiko, however, have certainly proven themselves deserving of one given both
02:02of their dark, tragic pasts.
02:04It's unclear how Kimiko and Frenchie's story will play out in the Boys' season 5, but both
02:08characters will evidently be crucial in whatever is to come.
