00:00Thomas and the Birthday Mail
00:05It was the stormy season on the island of Sodom.
00:10All the engines were battling against the bad weather.
00:15Thomas was busy delivering supplies and mail in a far part of the island.
00:22He really enjoyed going up to High Farm.
00:27It was up on a hill, right at the end of the line.
00:32A little girl called Alice lived there.
00:36Alice and Thomas were good friends.
00:46One day, Thomas was on his way to High Farm when Rosie stopped beside him.
00:53Rosie was a cheerful, chirpy little tank engine.
00:58She was always pleased to meet Thomas.
01:01She liked him so much that she wanted to be just like him.
01:06So she tried to copy him.
01:09She tried to wheesh the way he did.
01:12She even tried to whistle like Thomas.
01:18It made Thomas cross.
01:20Hello Thomas, puffed Rosie brightly.
01:24What are you doing?
01:26It's Alice's birthday, chuffed Thomas.
01:29I want to get all her presents up to High Farm in good time.
01:35Just then, Harold the helicopter arrived.
01:40Another storm warning, I'm afraid, he shouted.
01:44High winds on the way and heavy rain.
01:47Harold warned Thomas not to go up to High Farm.
01:51Heavy rain can cause landslides on that hilly route, he said.
01:56And Harold flew away.
02:01Thomas didn't want to let Alice down.
02:04High winds don't bother me, he puffed.
02:07Or me, chuffed Rosie.
02:10I'll come as your back engine.
02:12I'll come as your back engine.
02:15But Thomas didn't want Rosie to come.
02:18No thank you, Rosie, he huffed firmly.
02:21I'll manage on my own.
02:24And he chuffed quickly away.
02:28But Rosie liked Thomas very much.
02:32And she wanted to help him, so she chuffed cheekily after him.
02:38Thomas puffed along the line to High Farm.
02:43The sky grew darker and darker.
02:49Soon it was pouring with rain.
02:53Thomas's pistons pumped and his boiler bubbled.
02:58It was hard work.
03:00Rosie can't follow me now, he thought.
03:03She isn't strong enough.
03:05Thomas was wrong.
03:06Rosie's pistons were pumping and her boiler was bubbling right behind him.
03:13She whistled cheerfully to Thomas.
03:18Thomas was very annoyed.
03:31Soon Thomas came to a junction.
03:34One way was the longer, easy way to High Farm.
03:38The other way was shorter and much harder.
03:42Thomas knew that the longer way was safer.
03:46But I'll take the shorter way, he wished.
03:49Then Rosie won't follow me.
03:51She's not strong enough.
03:56As the storm raged, Thomas puffed furiously up the steep track.
04:01Thomas was almost at High Farm.
04:04He was sure Rosie wasn't behind him now.
04:08I won't be seeing any more of her today, tooted Thomas happily.
04:13Then there was trouble.
04:15Earth and stones tumbled down the bank and blocked Thomas's track.
04:21Cinders and ashes, cried Thomas.
04:25But he still wanted to deliver Alice's presents.
04:28I'll just have to bash my way through, thought Thomas.
04:33And he pushed forward into the landslide.
04:38Thomas was up to his buffers in mud and stones.
04:43He tried to push on, but he couldn't.
04:47He tried to back out, but he couldn't.
04:52Thomas was stuck.
04:53Thomas felt silly and very sad.
04:57I should have listened to Harold, he wished unhappily.
05:01Now Alice won't get her presents on time.
05:05I've let her down, he thought sadly.
05:09Then he heard the toot of another engine.
05:13It was Rosie, puffing proudly up the hill.
05:17It's me, tooted Rosie cheerfully.
05:21Then she saw Thomas was stuck.
05:24Thomas felt very silly.
05:27I'll go and get help, chuffed Rosie.
05:31Wait a minute, whistled Thomas.
05:34Please, will you deliver Alice's presents for me?
05:38Rosie was baffled.
05:41She didn't know what to do.
05:43I'll go and get Alice's presents for me.
05:47Rosie was very happy.
05:51Of course I will, she puffed.
05:55Rosie was soon coupled up to Thomas's trucks.
06:01Then she steamed off to High Farm.
06:07Thomas waited for Rosie to come back.
06:10No one followed him after all.
06:15Soon Rosie came puffing back down the line.
06:22Alice's mother has telephoned for help, Rosie told Thomas.
06:27Edward is on his way to pull you out.
06:31Then Thomas noticed that Rosie had a passenger on board.
06:36It was Alice.
06:37She had come to thank Thomas for getting her birthday presents to her.
06:42I couldn't have done it without Rosie's help, Thomas puffed.
06:46Now we can all celebrate your birthday together.
06:51Thomas tooted happily.
06:55And so did Rosie.
