Transcript
00:00You were always the wrong guy.
00:03Till you weren't.
00:05Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the best easter eggs in Marvel's Deadpool and Wolverine.
00:11However, since we've already made a list of the best cameos, we won't be including any of those here.
00:17Waited a long time for this team up.
00:20Number 10, Witch Punisher.
00:22See you in hell.
00:24I see you anywhere near hell, I'll kick your ass up.
00:28Although he didn't appear in Deadpool and Wolverine, there were several nods to the Punisher.
00:33When mentioned by the Void's resistance group, Deadpool asks which one they mean as there have been so many of them.
00:39Indeed, four actors have played the character in live action.
00:43Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, Ray Stevenson, and Jon Bernthal.
00:47That kid right there.
00:49The one whose head you got that gun on, you see, I'd do anything for her.
00:53Anything.
00:56So why don't you take that weapon, and point it at me.
01:00However, when the group attacks Cassandra Nova's base, Blade uses the fallen anti-hero's rocket launcher.
01:06This could point to an infamous scene in Punisher Warzone in which Ray Stevenson uses the same weapon to shoot a bad guy out of the air.
01:14Interestingly, one of Cassandra's henchmen is the Russian, a goon wearing a red and white t-shirt who also appeared in the 2004 film starring Thomas Jane.
01:26Ugh!
01:28Number 9. All in the Family.
01:31You know what, Blair? I am gonna go to that show, and I'm gonna sit front row, and I'm gonna enjoy every minute of it.
01:36There are several Easter eggs about Ryan Reynolds' family spread across the movie.
01:40Before Deadpool fights TVA agents during the opening, he tells the audience there are 206 bones in the human body, but 207 if he's watching Gossip Girl.
01:50This joke references Reynolds' wife, Blake Lively, who starred in the show.
01:54Before he and Wolverine fight in the Deadpool variants, Nicepool mentions that Ladypool just had a baby.
01:59Lively and Reynolds welcomed their fourth child in February of 2023, just months before filming began in May.
02:06Their children also play noteworthy roles.
02:099-year-old James played a screaming mutant, 7-year-old Inez voiced Kidpool, while 1-year-old Olin played Babypool and got his own popcorn bucket.
02:19Meanwhile, 4-year-old Betty is credited as Hugh Jackman Wrangler in the credits.
02:34Number 8. A Hidden Body Double.
02:37We know we said we were not doing cameos, but this small one likely went over the heads of many viewers.
02:50When news broke that Vinnie Jones turned down the offer to reprise his role as Juggernaut, that told viewers that the character would probably still appear somewhere.
02:59The villain is one of Cassandra Nova's henchmen, and is played by bodybuilder Aaron Reid.
03:08Fans may not have realized it, but Reid has worked with Ryan Reynolds and director Sean Levy before.
03:14He was the body for Dude, a muscular version of Reynolds' character in the 2021 action-comedy Free Guy.
03:21Reid is still modeled after the Last Stand version of Juggernaut, as opposed to the one in Deadpool 2, which, funnily enough, was played by Reynolds.
03:30It has always been a dream of mine to see my face reflected in your helmet as you charge at me with murderous intent. I don't mean right now.
03:37Number 7. The Shawarma Revolution.
03:46There are many ways in which Deadpool tries to be worthy of the heroes who came before him.
03:50In addition to idolizing the Avengers, Deadpool is fond of their post-battle meal.
03:55After the climax, he suggests getting shawarma with Wolverine.
03:59While eating, he makes a remark about the Avengers inventing it.
04:02This, of course, is a callback to the group's 2012 team-up, in which Iron Man requests shawarma after the big fight since he's never tried it.
04:10Have you ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I want to try it.
04:17While it's obviously a joke that they invented it, the film did have a huge impact on making many of us in the West aware of it.
04:24In fact, after it debuted, sales of shawarma skyrocketed in major U.S. cities like Los Angeles and Boston.
04:35Number 6. The Friendly Neighborhood Stan Lee.
04:38You know, I guess one person can make a difference.
04:45Enough said.
04:46For an extremely long time, Marvel legend Stan Lee cameoed throughout live-action Marvel movies, even those before the MCU.
04:55Following his death in 2018, it seemed like the last time we may see him on screen were his posthumous cameos.
05:01However, Deadpool and Wolverine did include a nice reference to Lee.
05:07The fight against the Deadpool variants eventually takes the heroes into a bus.
05:13You might not have noticed given all the carnage, but the bus has an ad on the side.
05:18It's for a company called Stanley Steamers, featuring the likeness of a smiling Lee with the tagline,
05:24Your Friendly Neighborhood Cleaners, a clear nod to Spider-Man, one of his most famous co-creations.
05:33Number 5. Liefeld's Just Feet.
05:37Right before the Stan Lee Easter egg is a reference to Deadpool's own co-creator.
05:42The fight against an army of Deadpools begins in front of an orthopedic store called Liefeld's Just Feet.
05:48Comic fans will know Rob Liefeld as one of two who first gave Deadpool his voice, along with Fabian Nicieza.
05:55It isn't just a nod to Liefeld though.
05:58It has long been a running joke that the creator isn't great at drawing feet.
06:07This also isn't the first time the Deadpool movies have poked fun at this.
06:11There's also a line in Deadpool 2 about his inability to draw feet when Domino,
06:16who debuted in the same issue of The New Mutants as Deadpool, is being interviewed for X-Force.
06:31Number 4. A ton of insider jokes.
06:37The intro of the Resistance group comes with several jokes meant for those who follow behind-the-scenes movie news.
06:42Gambit mentions feeling like he was born in the void, referencing that Channing Tatum's solo movie never got made.
06:49I think it was really at an interesting mark in the trajectory of the superhero movies
06:54that it was a bit of a paradigm shift and we were trying to make something at a time
06:59and trying to do some different things and we just kept running into doors.
07:02Elektra seems pretty okay that Daredevil didn't survive.
07:06Funny considering Jennifer Garner starred alongside now ex-husband Ben Affleck in the 2003 film.
07:11Deadpool aims a similar joke at Wolverine, claiming he's let himself go since the divorce.
07:17Hugh Jackman and Debra Lee Furness announced their separation in September 2023.
07:22Blade tells Deadpool he doesn't like him and gets the response,
07:26you never did, a reference to the actor's tumultuous relationship while filming Blade Trinity.
07:36He also claims there will only ever be one Blade, triggering Deadpool's knowing look into the camera,
07:42a nod to Mahershala Ali's struggles in getting the MCU project off the ground.
07:53The Void is a treasure trove of Easter eggs.
07:56Buried in the sand, you may spot Thor's helmet, Cap's World War II era shield
08:01and the corpse of a Chitauri Leviathan from the Avengers.
08:05I'm bringing the party to you.
08:10There are also a ton of iconic Marvel vehicles.
08:13Cassandra's group of villains have repurposed Red Skull's car from the first Captain America movie,
08:18as well as a Fantasticar, which has yet to appear in any of the Fantastic Four films.
08:23Scattered throughout the wasteland, you can spot a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier,
08:27Peter Quill's ship from Guardians of the Galaxy and a Black Order ship from Infinity War.
08:32Deadpool and Wolverine even use a Sentinel boot to escape Cassandra's forces after their first run-in.
08:37Additionally, the stone carving of Scarlet Witch from Multiverse of Madness
08:41can be seen in the Resistance group's hideout.
08:44You break the rules and become a hero.
08:46I do it and I become the enemy.
08:49That doesn't seem fair.
08:54The movie opens with Deadpool visiting the MCU
08:57and interviewing with Happy Hogan for a chance to join the Avengers.
09:00Around the room are multiple Easter eggs.
09:03Some are obvious, like the keepsake arc reactor from Iron Man
09:06and the prototype Captain America shield from Iron Man 2.
09:09What's this doing here?
09:13That's it.
09:15Bring that to me.
09:16You know what this is?
09:17It's exactly what I need to make this work.
09:19There's also a Forbes magazine featuring Pepper Potts,
09:22the suitcase suit from Iron Man 2
09:24and Coulson's Captain America trading cards from the Avengers.
09:27Guess he never did get you to sign them.
09:31Hmm.
09:33Notably, one shot shows the framed picture of Tony Stark with Peter Parker,
09:38with Peter covered up,
09:39presumably due to licensing issues with Sony.
09:42However, he's covered by an Iron Man mask,
09:46the same mask worn by a young boy in Iron Man 2,
09:49tying in with the now-canon theory that this boy was Peter.
09:53Nice work, kid.

10:16When Deadpool goes looking for Wolverine replacements,
10:19he visits several different universes.
10:21In addition to the comic-accurate Short King and the Henry Cavill cameo,
10:25many were great nods to the character's storied history,
10:28and none of them was particularly happy to see Deadpool.
10:38The Merc has confrontations with Patch,
10:40an alter-ego for Wolverine undercover.
10:43We also get Old Man Logan
10:45and the one-handed version from the Age of Apocalypse storyline.
10:48Some reference iconic covers,
10:50like the crucified Wolverine of Uncanny X-Men number 251
10:54and one of his many fights against the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk number 340.
10:58This last one in particular causes Deadpool to geek out
11:01over the classic brown and yellow suit,
11:03just like the rest of us.
