00:00A Robert Downey Jr. cameo was written for Deadpool and Wolverine.
00:04Before Downey's return to Marvel as Doctor Doom,
00:07the Deadpool and Wolverine team toyed with bringing him back as Tony Stark.
00:10Deadpool and Wolverine co-writer Paul Wernick confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter,
00:14"...there is a script. We have the Downey draft."
00:17In the final film that's currently playing in theaters, Ryan Reynolds' character Wade Wilson
00:21travels to Avengers Tower in 2018 to meet with Happy Hogan, played by Jon Favreau.
00:26Wade asks to join the Avengers and inquires if Tony Stark will be joining them for the interview,
00:31before Happy ultimately rejects him from the team.
00:34But in an earlier draft of the scene that Reynolds wrote, Tony and Happy appear together.
00:38The Deadpool and Wolverine team reasoned that if Downey declined the cameo, or if Marvel nixed it,
00:43they could always rework the Avengers Tower scene for Happy alone.
00:47Co-writer Rhett Reese said, "...Jon was amazing about it.
00:49He hung in there while it was still undetermined for a little while,
00:52and then ultimately was very gracious about having it expand out."
00:56He continued, "...we did love the idea of Tony Stark being in there,
00:59but we also perfectly understand why it didn't happen, given that Downey jumped on stage at
01:03Comic-Con and became Doctor Doom not 10 seconds after our movie came out."
01:08While Deadpool and Wolverine's Downey moment didn't happen, the film has already made over
01:12$900 million worldwide, and is expected to cross the $1 billion mark this weekend.
