00:00some NFL news and notes from around training camp again the second full week
00:05of training camp getting underway yesterday and there's been a lot of
00:09conversation DRS and we will continue to conjecture to start off our second hour
00:14in terms of the quarterback contracts and the big money that was spent this
00:18offseason this past weekend the last few off seasons about what quarterbacks
00:24truly deserve the salary cap on the rise as we have shared countless times it's
00:29not about your performance it's about your prospect and it's really just
00:33frankly about market value and what makes financial sense at the moment the
00:38top 10 quarterbacks in the National Football League in terms of salary does
00:44not feature Patrick Mahomes 45 million dollars per year for a guy that has won
00:48three Lombardi trophies he's on the outside looking in the 11th highest
00:54paid QB in the National Football League so Patrick Mahomes was asked this week
00:59DRS about the idea that he is not one of the five or highest paid QBs in the NFL
01:06and here was Mahomes his reply quote not necessarily I think we do a great job of
01:11managing my money to be able to pay me a lot of money and keep a good team around
01:15me I know we've kind of restructured it a couple of times and got the cash flow
01:20up in certain spots and certain years it's about having good dialogue good
01:24communication with the front office with ownership we've done that here and
01:28as we've been able to allow me to be a highly paid guy while at the same time
01:32build a great team around me he was asked if he is underpaid that was Mahomes
01:38his response what do you make of it? I like where he's coming from at this
01:43point let's also be honest with it if Mahomes wanted to every single year hold
01:46out and be the highest paid player in the history of football every year he
01:48could do that but also you have to have some sanctity and say to yourself you
01:52know what I don't need that because I like to show up to work and have
01:55playmakers that are going to be around me I have more money than you can deal
01:58with and also let's not boo-hoo and feel bad for Patrick Mahomes when he came out
02:01with his initial contract of roughly a half of a billion dollars it was so far
02:06in a way overpaid on every single player in the NFL that we laughed at it and
02:10that looks like it's one of those outdated contracts but as he pointed out
02:13here's what Kansas City is doing and they're kicking the can down the road
02:16and this is what you're supposed to do when you have a quarterback in your
02:19prime and you're winning Super Bowl after Super Bowl just give him that
02:22guaranteed money up front each and every year every other year restructured hey I
02:25know you only supposed to make you know 22 million this year let's get you some
02:28guarantees of an extra 20 million dollars on top of this not changing the
02:32structure of the contract itself dollar wise which is getting you that money
02:35faster and Patrick Mahomes probably gonna play for let's just say comfortably
02:38another 10 years he is gonna make probably close to a billion dollars when
02:42it's all said and done but I like his mindset which is also like the Tom Brady
02:46mindset in New England look I'm gonna play for a long time here I'm gonna make
02:51more money than I know what to do with on the field and off the field let me
02:54just keep some money left behind so we can bring in players that are gonna help
02:58me be the ultimate spectacle in professional sports which is play
03:02quarterback and continue to be in Super Bowls so I understand where he's coming
03:05from he could be even more greedy but he said he's not taking the Drew Brees
03:08approach at this point he's taking the team approach I make a lot of money here
03:12surround me with talent as long as you're doing it that I'm gonna be fine
03:15but if I catch you skimping on my talent out here yeah I want the most
03:18money I can make that there are eight quarterbacks in the 50 million dollar
03:22club as we shared yesterday led by Joe Burrow Trevor Lawrence and now Jordan
03:26Love all at 55 million dollars per year to a tongue-of-eye low of 53.1 Jared
03:32Goff 53 then you have Justin Herbert 52 and a half Bill Lamar Jackson has 52
03:37million and as we have shared Jalen Hurts rounds out the 50 million dollar
03:42man club at 51 million dollars per year then Deshaun Watson and Kyler Murray
03:47round out the top ten there is no argument to be had that Patrick Mahomes
03:52is not the best quarterback in the National Football League and should be
03:55paid as such but it goes to I think it we speak DRS to what we often say there
04:02is financial sense in what you do if you pay and extend a player but certainly a
04:08quarterback but anybody on your roster early if you have the prudence and the
04:13foresight to get it done early you look like a mad freaking genius and that's
04:19Brent Veach in Kansas City the 2020 extension that boggled our minds at the
04:25time for Patrick Mahomes a 10-year 450 million dollar deal nearly half a
04:30billion dollars in a lump sum sounds and is frankly ridiculous but when it's
04:36averaged out over the 10 years of the extension in the final two of his rookie
04:41deal they look like mad scientist genius in Kansas City for a guy that has
04:46actually delivered what everybody is hoping for in extending the likes of
04:51love in Lawrence and Tungabai Loa Lombardi trophies yes and we were saying
04:56to ourselves when that deal was signed good luck in a couple years affording
04:59any talent with that deal yeah look at him affording even more talent with that
05:03deal because it was genius pay your quarterbacks early and your team will be
05:07luckier down the road because you know why that quarterbacks gonna get paid a
05:10lot of money and you're still gonna be able to get players around them here
05:13Kansas City the way to do it we talk promise in the hopes of pedigree when
05:18our two starts next but we start with some football conversations and some
05:23quarterback talk on this Tuesday morning absolutely and rightfully so because in
05:29what 48 hours or so we're gonna have the NFL action live on your TV from the
05:34Hall of Fame game looking forward to that Chicago Bears Houston Texans
05:37nobody's gonna play but you know what's gonna happen in that game Ben we are
05:41gonna get the first look at kickoff coverage and how that is going to play
05:45out so something actually to watch for once in the preseason how about that
05:49yeah it's going to be a ton of fun it is sparked some controversy of course there
05:56is conversation if you are on the forefront you can take advantage of
06:00those new kickoff rules in the National Football League also if you're getting
06:05paid the big bucks at the quarterback spot you are now expected to deliver
06:10Donnie as we have shared right you pay for promise you pay for prospect you do
06:16not pay because of what has happened and pedigree when you look around the
06:22National Football League and the quarterbacks that have been ranking in
06:25the big bucks four of these five highest paid quarterback salaries of
06:30course on an average annual basis have been extended this offseason and Joe
06:35Burrow at the very end of the offseason last summer for Cincinnati Jordan Love
06:40Trevor Lawrence to a tongue-of-my-loa and Jared Goff all inking those new
06:44deals this offseason all making 53 million dollars or more so as we have a
06:52quarterback conversation of the quarterbacks who have signed a new deal
06:56or those still in the running for a hopeful new contract extension who is
07:01the first to match the money with a championship who wins a Super Bowl first
07:07that was the question to you all and fade the public
07:17at sports grid on Twitter which quarterback will win a Super Bowl first
07:22here were the four options Dak Prescott who is yet to be paid by Dallas Jordan
07:28Love Trevor Lawrence both making 55 million dollars the most in National
07:33Football League history and to a tongue-of-my-loa at 53.1 mil the fourth
07:38highest paid quarterback in the history of the NFL in most of the public going
07:45with Jordan Love more than 51% of the public saying Jordan Love is the guy to
07:50deliver a Lombardi trophy first for his organization that of course would be to
07:55the Green Bay Packers and I absolutely agree with the public here now what last
08:00week two weeks ago putting the public on suspension with some of their voting
08:03practices here I didn't agree with here I absolutely agree with this and they
08:07nailed it from both ends of the spectrum if you have four quarterbacks listed
08:11here and of course some people voting with their you know own individual
08:14players and we love to see that as well but let's just focus on the four that we
08:18have listed here Dak Prescott Jordan Love Trevor Lawrence and to a tongue-of-my-loa
08:21who's getting the most votes right now the guy I voted for is Jordan Love
08:2551.4 I'll explain that in a second Dak Prescott getting 10% the low end of the
08:29totem pole makes too much sense here now let's go over why these individuals are
08:33getting these voting numbers Jordan Love to me looks like he's ready to take that
08:37next step in the NFL on a franchise here that surrounds him with talent you
08:41think he has a long runway the next 10 years should be pretty exciting in Green
08:45Bay and I think he has a legitimate chance over those 10 years to win a
08:48Super Bowl but if we take a look at the opposite and yeah of course Dak Prescott
08:51you might even be able to argue Dak Prescott individually might be the most
08:54talented quarterback on that list but who's that Prescott played for the
08:58Dallas Cowboys they don't win anything they don't win in the playoffs they
09:00don't win anything they haven't done so since the mid-1990s so we're looking at
09:04Dak Prescott saying he's got to overcome the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones as
09:08that huge anchor weight right now that's tying him to the bottom of the ocean he
09:13has no shot to win why because the Dallas Cowboys have no shot to win you
09:16take a look at Trevor Lawrence ton of talent here only 16.9 percent of the
09:20votes understandably that talent just hasn't matriculated into the NFL in deep
09:25postseason success to attack about love the kid love the Miami Dolphins the win
09:29double digits but I still worry about the injury process over his career so if
09:33we're just narrowing everything down it makes the most sense right now Jordan
09:37Love has a great head coach looks like he's gonna be a great quarterback in a
09:40good scheme and he's gonna play for the next 10 years Jordan Love was my vote as
09:44well completely agree with the way the public went here Ben I think despite
09:49having the least amount of sample size and maybe the most proven background at
09:54this moment Jordan Love is the right way to look there was the most optimism
09:58around love and the Packers of any of these quarterback and franchise duos
10:03that we see here now it's not all on Dak Prescott the fact that since 1995
10:09the last Super Bowl championship for the Cowboys in their 13 playoff
10:13appearances they have never gone past the divisional round or reached even the
10:18NFC Championship game but his postseason record is not stellar just two and five
10:24so there are questions about Dak Prescott in the ceiling that he brings
10:28the Cowboys to Trevor Lawrence the playoff victory in his second year there
10:33was only optimism in Duval County I think we would have asked this question
10:37last offseason Trevor Lawrence probably would have run away with this pull he
10:41was banged up down the homestretch last year the Jaguars dropped five of their
10:45final six games the Texans come out of nowhere to win the AFC South that
10:49division will be the focus of win total Tuesday live right here on the early
10:53line starting in this second hour but of course the Jags kind of went off the
10:58tracks to end out last season I still remain hopeful for Jacksonville to a
11:04tongue-of-eye loa the offense not the question the production not the question
11:08the stats in the points not the question in South Florida it's the overall team
11:13and it's two of that x-factor and difference maker to elevate Miami as a
11:17franchise to a true Super Bowl contender now Jordan love and Dallas where it
11:24stands right now eight to one for the Packers eight to one for the Cowboys
11:29both tied for the fourth best price to win the NFC Championship it is the only
11:33number of these four groups of quarter or the group of four quarterbacks that
11:38we see here that has grown shorter in terms of conference championship
11:42contention throughout this offseason it's not just because of love but the
11:47Packers have a lot of hope entering this 2024 campaign and I think a lot of the
11:53voting practices here Ben went that way because you're looking at this season
11:56and the excitement around the ballclub I have pretty good vibes around the Miami
12:00Dolphins you paid your quarterback here you bring in Odell Beckham jr. I really
12:03don't think it's gonna be that big of a you know person on the field dominating
12:07but he's clearly liked in the locker room and you have those other superstar
12:10wide receivers on the opposite end Jordan love good foundation in Green Bay
12:14as we pointed out here even Trevor Lawrence down there with Doug Peterson
12:17and Jacksonville the vibes are way higher for me than what we saw the
12:20Dallas Cowboys and I think has a lot to do with Jerry Jones hey look at this
12:25offseason fans get ready we are all in oh I wonder who they at then add a damn
12:30thing this offseason just pissed off more of their players than not so that's
12:34why Dak Prescott is also catching that shrapnel at 10.8 percent of the votes
12:38because what happens if that offseason would went differently Dak got paid
12:40lowered his cap number CD lamb got paid they brought in another wide receiver on
12:44the opposite end they made some moves on defense say hey you know what they might
12:47be primed to win this division once again but those vibes are so low in
12:51Dallas right now and the voting public agrees with it roughly 11% going with
12:55Dak and it's not so that's sort of a very good regular season just like he
12:58always does that's probably gonna make the Pro Bowl but that's not gonna win a
13:01damn thing in Dallas and that's what the question was who's gonna win the Super
13:04Bowl certainly ain't Dallas DRS there's a chance the Dak Prescott actually runs
13:09away and wins this vote not in the fade the public poll but Dak Prescott might
13:14win a Lombardi trophy next year with some team not named the Dallas Cowboys
13:18whoa they have not paid him and it's the final year of his contract that's where
13:24things stand at the moment when total Tuesday live right here on the early
13:29line on sports grid with a focus today on the AFC South we've done the AFC
13:34North we've done the AFC West I believe even the AFC East now it's time to route
13:40out the conference that being the AFC South before we do that a quick update
13:45from the semifinal match between New Zealand and Team USA in women's rugby at
13:50the Paris Olympic Games for the first time in American history a semifinal
13:54appearance in Olympic rugby 414 remaining in the second our producer Joe
14:00Frizzo provide the scoring updates Donnie for all that you can score in
14:04rugby now I need a timing and format update Frizzo if you do not mind because
14:09just for over four minutes remain in the second I don't know that's period I
14:15don't know if that's half but we're down right now twelve to five you would have
14:19to think we're off to a good start covering nineteen and a half we're only
14:23down by seven right now oh no oh no oh the Kiwis getting loose that's a try oh
14:30no games are split into two seven-minute halves so action is quick says Joe
14:36Frizzo oh no but rugby sevens Donnie I won't be of course that's all fifteen
14:43what yeah Union rugby versus non-union rugby tough scene till they get along
14:50who knows I don't know if there's actually like heat between like sevens
14:55and fifteens trying to see if that's a scoring update it did look like New
14:59Zealand was able to add some more points on the board now a drop kick to add to
15:06it Oh absolutely through the pipes like Justin Tucker out there oh goodness it
15:11might be getting away quick might be getting run as long maybe I started
15:15talking too much I don't know I'm trying to get an update where we'll show you
15:18how long again react like like time wise like how long are these they're quick
15:23for 14 oh I don't know yeah but that's a special like you know to me oh I think
15:29you're playing our 40 only 240 remaining in the second we're down we're down 19
15:37to 5 right now can we hold on here can we hold on here to cover 19 and a half
15:42can we hold on here to cover 19 and a half get Bella check out for sure for
15:51sure we need Phil Parker Iowa's defensive coordinator a lot of are not
15:55able to break free right now stoppage right now 226 remains there a strong
16:03no they do have scrubs even in sevens I believe but no scrum at the moment will
16:10continue to provide the updates I heard we were doing something called wind
16:15total Tuesday if that is correct looking at the AFC South Donnie maybe the most
16:21compelling division in my estimation ahead of 2024 not the best not the most
16:27important but maybe the most compelling because there's a lot of optimism for
16:31I would say at least three of the four teams in this division in what was a
16:36very competitive division down to week number 18 we shared earlier in the show
16:41Jacksonville the hefty favorite entering last year after winning the divisional
16:46crown in 2022 that playoff and dramatic comeback over the LA Chargers in that
16:52postseason got off to an 8 and 3 start were greater than a minus 1,000
16:56favorites when the AFC South divisional crown for a second straight year only to
17:01cough it up down the stretch dropping five of their final six and allowed a
17:05winner take all game week number 18 between CJ Stroud and Houston Gardner
17:10Minshew and Indianapolis and the Texans prevailing late to claim the division
17:15and of course a playoff victory as well for the Texans so Houston enters 2024
17:22NFL campaign as a favorite to win the AFC South for a second consecutive year
17:28nine and a half to win total for the Texans eight and a half the numbers for
17:31both the Jaguars and the Colts in Tennessee a six and a half win total the
17:37Titans a peculiar team as we will break down through win total Tuesday and our
17:42assessment of the AFC South big picture first DRS how will you judge this
17:47division in 2024 I looks like it's sharp it looks like those numbers are really
17:51sharp because you take a look at the Texans there and immediately everybody
17:54loves what they did in the offseason everybody loves the quarterback play
17:57they got out of CJ Stroud last year and you only think the sky is the limit so
18:01you look at that record last year Ben and what did it tell you 10 and 7 and I
18:06added Stefan digs the Neil Hunter on defense second year under the regime I'm
18:10gonna be fine and that number is only nine and a half I love when I see
18:14numbers like that because it really makes you start to think because
18:17everybody's darling is the Houston Texans everybody's expecting last year
18:22was no fluke they're gonna add on to it this year which means they should at
18:25least get back to 10 wins if they want to win this division and the fans will
18:29sports we're gonna hang that nine and a half out there like a carrot oh my
18:33goodness man I can't wait to see how this plays out but just from a Houston
18:37Texans perspective how can you not be excited about this team how can you not
18:40think CJ Stroud is gonna be in the MVP race how can you not think that Collins
18:44you know tank Dell and Stefan digs aren't gonna light it up on the outside
18:48with a quality tight end with Schultz and also if you're expecting to win
18:51football games how do you close those out with a devastating pass rush that
18:55they expect to have next year and yet again then nine and a half is that win
19:00total whoa buyer beware a good defense under D'Amico Ryan's in his first year
19:06as the head man in H town they made many moves to bolster that defensive line
19:11this offseason as well not just a big prized acquisition of Stefan digs but
19:16the extension of Nico Collins who was actually CJ Stroud's top target during
19:22his rookie campaign Dalton Schultz the tight end extended it is only hope it is
19:27only optimism it is only expectation now for the Texans but that's the
19:33interesting thing Donnie nine and a half the win total the over has the hefty
19:36juice at minus 150 expected to be a double-digit win team but how does it go
19:42from being the hunt tease to the hunt note from the hunters to the hunt tease
19:48they came out of nowhere last year with a rookie head coach and a rookie
19:52quarterback can they match that expectation I think that's the main
19:56question for the Texans yes and that is going to because the expectations are
20:00always for teams to get better that's not always the case here now what would
20:04shock us a little bit right what we saw to see Jay Stroud as a rookie and you
20:08say to yourself this guy was phenomenal the sky is the limit next year and he
20:12should be able to dominate once again and instead of being maybe on the outside
20:16of that MVP conversation be the frontrunner through September that's high
20:20expectations and also let's keep in mind defensive coordinators are some of the
20:24sharpest people on the planet you gave them 17 games plus the playoffs to get
20:28ready for CJ Stroud next year let's see what they can do I'm excited about this
20:32division because the opportunities and I really do like the Houston Texans and
20:36still think they deserve to be the favorites in the division here we've got
20:40plenty more around the AFC South coming your way up next I've got an update from
20:45the semifinal over in Paris in rugby sevens on the women's side the first time
20:50that the Americans have ever reached the semifinal since rugby sevens became an
20:55Olympic sport back in 2016 very difficult going against one of the gold
21:00medal favorites in New Zealand the Americans do not pull off what it would
21:04have been a David versus Goliath type upset but they do cover good teams win
21:10great teams cover the USA does lose 24 to 12 against New Zealand but covers as
21:16a 19 and a half point underdog that means Donnie that the United States will
21:22play the bronze medal match at 1 p.m. Eastern time this afternoon trying to
21:27medal for the first time in American history at the Olympic Games let me let
21:33me ask you a question on this too like I think I'm correct on the sport right
21:36when you score why do you have to like dive into like the end zone or the
21:40scoring area what's the point of that well I touch the turf I know that much
21:45hmm interesting all right I don't know why but that's why I know that's what
21:52you have to do yeah all right enough with your rugby questions man text
21:56Friezo like I do what I need a question answered live on air all right we
22:00continue on win total Tuesday around the AFC South we shared our takes on the
22:05Houston Texans Donnie the question is can they match the hope and the optimism
22:10now with expectation in H town do you think the Texans will do that in fact
22:17will they win the division will they be a double-digit win team once again this
22:21season I look here's I actually think there's a legitimate chance to have two
22:25double-digit win teams in this division that's the Texans and the Jaguars which
22:28we're gonna get to momentarily and also the Jaguars were the it team of that
22:32division just one year ago now the Texans seem to be it team here there's
22:36question marks with the two other teams that again we'll talk about in just a bit
22:39but from my money right now I always like momentum right like the more
22:43there's more question marks to me on the Jaguars the way they played out their
22:47season coming into this year then what the Houston Texans were because the
22:50Texans had that upward trajectory at the end of the season young superstar
22:53quarterback add to the talent level which looks like that often should
22:56absolutely be a humming this year and be fantastic I do give the slight nod to
23:00the Texans but sometimes when you take that team that was on the pedestal before
23:05and knock them off that gives you a little bit of a chip on your shoulder
23:07at this point and there's a lot of talent on that Jaguars team so for me
23:11Texas and the Jaguars rightfully so at the top of the standings both to me
23:14honestly legitimate chances each to get ten wins this year so you see the gap
23:19now right plus 154 Houston short favored to win the AFC South divisional crown
23:24for a second straight year the Jaguars have moved back at plus 270 I'm not
23:29exactly sure in March when the divisional odds for the 2024 campaign
23:33opened up but I know when they did I bet Jacksonville it was a two-to-one price
23:38they were only five cents behind Houston the Texans were the short favorite at
23:42plus 195 much with the thought that you just laid out on the Jaguars they were
23:48the it team at this point last offseason they had the young superstar quarterback
23:54in Trevor Lawrence they were riding the momentum over after an unlikely
23:58postseason victory against the LA Chargers in a very talented roster and
24:04they looked good eight in three through week number 12 last year minus 1,000 or
24:11even greater the price on the Jaguars to win the AFC South title for a second
24:16consecutive year and then things got off the tracks Trevor Lawrence a guy that
24:20more than anything has been available and out there throughout his college and
24:25NFL career missed the first game of his three-year NFL career was banked up with
24:30a litany of injuries and never really looked right down the stretch in the
24:35most significant games of Jacksonville needed him to be I'm not giving the
24:39Jags a pass they coughed it up they had every opportunity to still win the
24:43division and earn a playoff berth for a second consecutive year but if Trevor
24:48Lawrence is healthy and I expect him to be I think the Jaguars have a great shot
24:52of rivaling the Texans for the top spot in this division not in love with the
24:58Jaguars offensive line but let's just say they get some troops and offensive
25:01line play why aren't we cooking we got weapons at wide receiver at tight end in
25:05the backfield and a quarterback and also focusing on that defense here that's
25:08still a solid secondary with a couple athletic linebackers but more
25:11importantly we tell you something about this guy JHA over there they used to
25:15have a guy named Josh Allen great pass rusher what lives it up now they got a
25:19guy named Josh Hines Allen maybe the best pass rusher in the game this team
25:23should do some damages here the expectations of last year should
25:27transfer over to this year I think eight and a half is a low number because also
25:31the expectations with that big contract for Trevor Lawrence he knows this has to
25:35be a season that he sees his control of the South there's a good chance that
25:38they win this division but I would like to bet that over eight and a half I
25:42think that makes a lot of sense on the Jaguars this year maybe not in their
25:46but a couple of veterans have been added by Jacksonville up front Mitch Morse who
25:51was the anchor of the Buffalo offensive line at the center spot and Brandon
25:55Scherf make their way over this offseason good moves out of the Jags
26:00our three is up next on the early line and win total Tuesday continues you with
26:06a focus on the AFC South to start off this third and final hour Craig promised
26:11me if anything big goes down with the Philadelphia Phillies I will be shared
26:14into that knowledge which means if my trout is on the move if anything is
26:19going towards the Philadelphia Phillies today I will be shared with me first and
26:23I will get to break that news so there you go the only thing that I care about
26:29Craig Mish on the phone looking like breaking news is happening that he can
26:36share with us a text a call I don't care if he interrupts either of us I want him
26:43in insider mode when daily bases starts Friso please let him know that is what
26:49the standard that we hold him to today if Craig is already in our virtual green
26:53room I hope he can hear me let's continue in total Tuesday DRS around the
26:58AFC South we have focused on the two top teams in the division the Texans in the
27:04Jaguars nine and a half the total fourth Houston the over has the juice at minus
27:08150 expected to win the division and be a double-digit win team the Jags have
27:13some juice on the over at minus 115 of that win total of eight and a half
27:18expected to be above 500 contend for the top spot in the division maybe a wild
27:23card spot around the AFC but there were three teams last year in the AFC South
27:28that finished with a winning record and that included the Indianapolis Colts
27:32almost improbable much in the same way that Houston got to the postseason a
27:37similar conversation for Indy don't forget it was a winner-take-all game
27:40week number 18 on that Saturday night to decide the division and the Colts had a
27:45lead late in that second half but it wasn't the rookie quarterback under the
27:50rookie head coach that led Indianapolis to that point
27:53Anthony Richardson only played in four games had season-ending shoulder
27:56surgery early on in October it was Gardner Minshew he's no longer in Indy
28:02AR is healthy and ready to take the reins into his sophomore but really
28:06truly rookie season in Indianapolis what is your outlook Donnie for the Colts
28:12they win total of eight and a hook yeah it's really a shame here that we're not
28:15getting the true like knowledge that we need on that quarterback position
28:19because I would love to have seen him last year even if the Colts wind up
28:21winning five or six games you can say okay young rookie quarterback played 17
28:25games got beat up a little bit there but learned a lot now as a full offseason to
28:29get ready you know it's still banged up in the offseason getting injured last
28:33year and yes you could take your mental reps and you're still in the NFL I
28:36understand it it's better than nothing but I feel like we're getting that
28:39evaluation period once again in the month of September October and the most
28:43important evaluation is hey kid can you at least just stay healthy to be out
28:47there because that's the best availability the one thing we do love
28:50about the Colts I like Shane's like it I think he's a really good head coach and
28:54a quality offensive mind that's gonna put this kid in the best possible
28:57position to win football games you know what else you can lean on an absolutely
29:01mashing physically dominant offensive line which is a great best friend to have
29:05for a young quarterback and also a running game that's Jonathan Taylor if
29:09he's entering into the season 100% healthy and ready to go and not worrying
29:13about contract deals here that's gonna be great I think the offense should be
29:16provided to put up points I think the defense will be okay but it's one of
29:20those things where I evaluated CJ Stroud last year yeah he looks like a good
29:23quarterback I'm not worried about him this year Trevor Lawrence we've seen him
29:26for a couple years I'm not all that worried about him the only reason why
29:29I'm worried about Anthony Richardson has been because I haven't seen him enough
29:32here he could be explode onto this game or he could do what he did last year run
29:36around a lot make exciting plays score touchdowns and not finish football games
29:41when quite frankly by the way the backup quarterback situation on the Colts I
29:44don't have the let me bring up the depth chart quickly because they have a damn
29:47good one last year see Minshew to me is a better backup quarterback in that
29:53offense than Joe Flacco so I'm looking at a downgrade there which means you
29:57really need to stay healthy Anthony Richardson us Keaton Slovis Jason Bean
30:02out of Kansas and then you take a look at Joe Flacco he needs to stay healthy
30:06this year Jason Bean won me a lot of bets during his day in Lawrence at KU so
30:11let's not slander mr. Bean here on this Tuesday morning but I would agree right
30:16Garter Minshew had the familiarity with Shane Steichen he was his backup
30:20quarterback in Philadelphia it was a natural transition to Indianapolis now I
30:25can't wait to see what Anthony Richardson does this year some promise
30:29for sure in the four games that he started last year but only completed two
30:33of them more rushing touchdowns for than passing scores three and the big knock
30:39against AR rightfully so his only full year as a starter at Gainesville at
30:43Florida 53.8 percent completion percentage it wasn't great at times last
30:50year with the elevation in the National Football League a supreme athlete a
30:54rocket of an arm a guy that uses his physicality and athleticism of course to
31:01his benefit but when that is the case of course it calls into question his health
31:07and when he only played four games only completing two in his rookie year and
31:13had to had season-ending shoulder surgery there are going to be some
31:17natural causes of concern we hope Anthony Richardson is fully healthy for
31:21all 17 games for Indianapolis but even if that's the case Donnie what exactly
31:26is the pure picture again this is really Anthony Richardson's rookie year in the
31:30National Football League it really is in last year entering his first rookie
31:35season Indy's win total was six and a half it's eight and a half now the under
31:40has the juice I think it's fair I think it's sharp as you alluded to earlier I
31:45do not expect them to be a 5 and 12 football team it's not sure I see them
31:49as a double-digit win football team either they will contend for that
31:53winning mark that they had a season ago at nine and eight and it's one of the
31:58reasons I find the AFC South truly compelling because what is the true
32:01picture in Indianapolis similar thought to Nashville will Levis is the
32:07quarterback for the Tennessee Titans we've got a lot of young arms in this
32:11league three second-year guys that were all drafted either in the first round or
32:16the second pick of the second round that is well Levis and of course Trevor
32:20Lawrence entering year number four the former number one overall pick now the
32:25Titans said all right we're gonna start to break things down Derek Henry the
32:29staple of this franchise you're gone Ryan Tannehill you're gone Will Levis is
32:33our future but we're going to build things back up okay a team hitting the
32:38reset button kind of building it up from the bottom and building that foundation
32:42once again and then ran Carson in the front office in Nashville said on second
32:48thought let's give Tony Pollard a three-year 24 million dollar deal let's
32:52pay Calvin Ridley a ton of money a four-year 92 million dollar deal let's
32:59make some other interesting moves like bringing Tyler Boyd over to reunite with
33:03his former offensive coordinator in Cincinnati and first-year head coach
33:06Brian Callahan I thought this would be a Titans organization freshly in a
33:12rebuild but they're almost in this limbo area of hey we're not going to be really
33:17bad but we're also not going to be really good and it kind of leaves us in
33:21this gray zone I don't know if the money was spent correctly here on the Titans
33:26for what their future is going to have but if you are going to look at this
33:28Titans team and see that six and a half they're built to win seven plus games as
33:32you said unless you just get a horrific quarterback play out of Will Levis let's
33:37just say Will Levis is starting to take the next step and being a competent NFL
33:41quarterback I'm not even talking top 15 let's just go top 20 ish this team's
33:45gonna win seven games the offensive line I think it's gonna be okay the wide
33:49receiving core is very good as you said Hopkins are really on the outside with
33:53Boyd in the middle and then take a look at Pollard in the back to add some
33:56explosion and Spears as well look I'm not having high expectations for the
34:01Titans but I think you can make money it's one of those teams that nobody is
34:04looking at to do damage in the playoffs and I completely agree with that but the
34:08way this team is set up in the way they spent money they spent money on wins
34:12which again isn't going to be equivalent to me to winning that division making a
34:16deep playoff run or heck even winning a Super Bowl but six and a half wins that
34:20is enough talent there once again predicate on Will Levis just being
34:24roughly an average quarterback that's a seven win football team I take the over
34:28and that's why I don't see the bottom of this division as being that far down
34:34which makes things even more interesting if the entire division is at least
34:38competitive Will Levis last year of course came on very hot 238 and four
34:44touchdowns in his opening debut just four TDs to four interceptions in his
34:49next seven starts four on the early line next
