00:00All right, so it's always good when we get Tomlin's words of wisdom rolling on a Friday
00:06Well, it certainly is and we missed it last week because the Steelers were on a bye
00:11But it is back as the Steelers get ready to face Washington at the dump and land over this week
00:17So what are this week's words of wisdom?
00:19Well coach was asked about how how he perceives his team at the midway point of the season
00:26Let's see what about coach Mike Tomlin has to say is some to say games enough of an indicator to determine
00:32You know what you are?
00:34What your identity is, you know?
00:36I I think that you know
00:38That's a slippery discussion because oftentimes your immediate identity is affected by current circumstance
00:44When there's a lack of player availability in certain areas oftentimes it affects how you go about business
00:49For example for a large part of that eight games that you mentioned
00:52We only had TJ and we didn't have Alex Highsmith or Nick Herbick. And so that might affect
00:58You know how you rush particularly in one-dimensional moments. And so
01:02broadly, yes, but there's some complexities if I'm legitimately answering that question because
01:09oftentimes
01:11Your day-to-day decisions in the short term are affected by current circumstance
01:16And so the larger body of time that you look at the more true that statement is and oftentimes
01:21Eight games can be or cannot be enough of a of a of a sample size to legitimately address that
01:35He he tries to work
01:38so many of the big words in in and out, you know a
01:42Business and you know, he tries to work everything in as he moves forward before I give you the numbers for this Sunday

02:37I think that the Russell Wilson factor has opened up the running game for him
02:42You have to worry about the Steelers they're spreading the ball around they're throwing it to six to eight receivers a game and
02:51You got to guard them and then that leaves the holes at the trenches
02:56For this guy to bounce through and get big games. He's been looking terrific
03:026.7 million is cheap. They should have done it. I
03:06Don't know what's gonna happen. I don't think it's something that they

03:12Won't regret I guarantee you if they lose him though, they'll rue the day that they didn't give it to him
03:18I think that they have to figure out a way to keep him

03:22I gotta say like everyone in Pittsburgh thought that Warren was better and that he's

03:31Faster all the rest, but he's had the injuries right and he's been banged up and hasn't done anything
03:37Warren has done nothing on the Steelers this year. Am I right?
03:41Najee's done it all so the guy that they thought that would supplant him has been all banged up and
03:49The guy that's actually getting it done is the guy that they wouldn't give the deal to all they do is pick it up for that
03:55See, that's how cheap they are
03:56That's how cheap the Rooney's are that they don't think he's worth six million and he is he's worth six million
04:02In fact in my opinion the last three weeks, he's been worth six million bucks. He's had three straight hundred-yard games
04:09They've never had that in years. So to see him producing like that. They should have given him the money
04:16Probably should have at this point Pickens could see some more targets this week. That's because
04:21Pickens is targeted almost 35% of the time when his routes
04:25When the defense gives blitzes, that's the second highest rate at wide receiver in the NFL the commanders blitz
04:31The eighth highest in the NFL so you could see more up top and downtown
04:37To George Pickens this week who already has as you know
04:40the most 30-plus yard
04:43Catches in the league. So look out for that. This guy is a problem
04:48And that's why the commanders went out and got Lattimore because they have an issue in their secondary
04:54so he's not playing with his hammy, so
04:58This guy Pickens is gonna get his and then just like McLaurin does on the other side
05:03But the reality is is that the Steelers have a really good secondary that can give McLaurin problems
05:08Hopefully and I think the guy that's gonna stretch that commander D the most is Williams with his size
05:16So Russ very happy to have Mike Williams
05:18Here's what we have now two and a half still
05:21For Washington 44 and a half is the total of course Jaden Daniels will be a tough customer for the Steelers this week
05:28I did not know Scotty that his mom was his agent and that she has now been certified by the NFL PA
05:37Officially an agent in the league she represents her son, so I guess congrats to her and him
05:43Well, obviously that's pretty impressive on her behalf
05:46To pull that off and then I'd say she just needs to learn all the little tricks that they all know about every single thing
05:54About contracts. I think she already knows his value
05:57You know, he's the number two player selected in the draft and he's a star already in the making in the NFL
06:04So his price tag is going to soar
06:07Through the sky into the heavens in short order and imagine what this guy's gonna be making in four years
06:16Honestly, yeah
06:21By the way, I like the under in the Steeler Washington game 44 and a half on Sunday
06:26I think the Steelers win, but I think it's a bit of a tough blue-collar type of game
06:31I don't think it's gonna be a high scoring game
06:33Between those two could look a little bit like that bear game with Washington a few weeks ago a little bit lower scoring
06:40But the Steelers I think are gonna find a way
06:46Yes, yes, I'm saying that the type of game low scoring a little grind it out, but I think Steelers win
06:54You know somewhere in the 17 to 10 17 13 type of range
06:59Right about there and then they'll have the real test on deck the Ravens and the Steelers. That'll be fun
07:06The humanity the 49ers off a buyer four and four they are going to get Christian McCaffrey back
07:12Of course, we heard Shanahan playing games with that all week. He did say yesterday. He expects him to play
07:18He also talked about the quarterback on the other side
07:22Very impressed with what Baker Mayfield's been doing with the Bucs. We see from Baker. How is he grown in Tampa?
07:28I think I think Baker's a stud. I think last year
07:31I thought he was at the top of his game last year playing real well, and I'm this year
07:35I think he's the same if not better
07:37You know, I think you know, he's one of the main reasons I think
07:41You know, there were a couple plays away from playing us in the NFC Championship last year
07:44We were worried real worried about him going into that game
07:46He just got hotter as the whole year went and he's playing at such a high level right now
07:51Without a doubt and I you know, let's stop with all this nonsense. This guy won a Heisman Trophy and
07:58He is a really good quarterback. He's and he goes for it. He's a stud. There's no doubt about it
08:04He's a badass and I think he got labeled in Cleveland
08:10And people seem to forget that what was wrapped around him was stale bread. I mean, they just didn't have the team
08:18Around him. He was like trying to do it himself and he dealt with all kinds of injuries
08:23He got obliterated in the pocket. They had no line and then when he went to the Rams he had success
08:29What he went to Tampa he had even more success you put talent around him like Evans and God when he lit it up
08:36I think now he's showing how good he is because he's playing with all these backups and he's still getting it done
08:43This guy is a gamer. Let's stop with all this other rhetoric
08:48No doubt six and a half for the Niners on the road
08:52This has gone up throughout the week with the McCaffrey news and fifty and a half a big total
08:58Of course the Bucks have played a lot of overs
09:00So far this year
09:02Well, you know like when this game
09:05Was on the board at the beginning
09:07You know, it was sick. So it's only moved a little bit
09:10I still think it's the Niners because of the Tampa problems with injuries and I think that
09:17McCaffrey being back changes everything even if he gets in a limited number of
09:23You know snaps I can still see him scoring a touchdown or two if they're inside the five or something and inside the red zone
09:31He's gonna be effective when he has the ball like he always is. I don't think he's gonna carry the heavy burden
09:37but he doesn't have to just having him out there makes the Niners a better team and they need to win this game I

09:46Tampa's lost five or six. They're in trouble because I think the Evans and Godwin injuries really killed him and all the
09:53You know blown opportunities the game where Bulls didn't go for two in Kansas City

14:43but I've already like said that it is what it is all I care about is next week as I'm going to the game because
14:49Gonna be unbelievable on the 17th. They're gonna serve the Ravens up some cold
14:55Pittsburgh Steelers football right down their throat
14:59Love it. So I think what they need to clean up though Scott before then is
15:06red zone because Boswell as much as we like him getting a little bit too much work and
15:12I think Russell needs to show that he can push the ball downfield even better than he's been doing
15:19It's not his strength, but I think maybe the addition of Mike Williams helps
15:24I just think they need to be better pushing the ball down the field and I think that is a weakness for the commanders
15:29So strong possibility that George Pickens really goes off this weekend against a weaker secondary
15:35I appreciate that they added Marshawn Lattimore, but that was three days ago. It's hard to expect him to make a huge impact right away
15:41Well, I mean, he's not even playing like yesterday
15:44Kaplan said he's got a hammy and that he's not gonna go. We'll see if that's true
15:50If he doesn't go they're screwed. Now. Look, I think McLaurin's a great
15:55Receiver, I think Jane Daniels great
15:58But I don't think Jane Daniel has seen this type of pass rush
16:02That he's gonna see on Sunday at the dump and land over now. Listen you tell me
16:07this team now has
16:09Like a quarterback that's spreading it to six to eight receivers. They got two great tight ends
16:14They got two great receivers one of them spectacular and Pickens
16:16I think Williams has the potential with his size to climb the ladder and get balls that otherwise wouldn't be caught and
16:23Russell Wilson knows how to throw that high ball. Believe me you and
16:27They have nausea busted off hundred yard games. I don't see the weakness anymore in the Steelers. I like their secondary
16:34I love their pass rush. I like their linebackers
16:36I like everything about him. Maybe a little bit in the trenches up front
16:40But how can you say they're not doing well there when the guys have an hundred yard games every time he touches the ball?
16:46True. I think a lot of teams need more offensive line depth. The Steelers are one of those teams, but
16:53I think the one thing that always like I said, the red zone stuff is not clean right now too many field goals
16:59I'm always a little surprised
17:01That Friar Muth isn't a bigger part of the game plan, I think he's an excellent
17:07Possession receiver. He is a very good blocker
17:10So he's a victim of his own success in the same way that George Kittle is to some extent
17:15Kittle is a standout tight end, but he doesn't put up Kelsey numbers
17:20consistently
17:21Because of how good he is on the line and I think that's part of what happens with Friar Muth as well
17:26So when you see the Ravens and the Bengals and because the Bengals to me at four and six
17:32They're not in this conversation, but the Bills are
17:35Kansas City is
17:37Obviously and Baltimore is and Pittsburgh has to be in that conversation. I still think the Steelers can win the north. I
17:46Do too. I think that because of both Washington and Pittsburgh
17:51Because they've had relatively easy schedules people aren't going to give them a lot of flowers yet
17:57Same with the Bears to some extent, right?
17:59The Bears have a bunch of wins, but they haven't beaten anybody when the Bears start beating good teams
18:03Then they'll start to maybe stop
18:06Trying to get Matt Eberlose fired or think that Caleb is better than he they perceive him to be
18:13They just haven't really beaten anybody good yet. I'm with you. I think they're in the conversation
18:17They have to prove it through big wins and they're gonna have
18:21For better or for worse. They're gonna have nine straight opportunities to beat good teams save the Browns games the Bengals
18:28We know they have a lot of warts, but that's a tough offense to deal with. We saw it last night
18:33I thought they were they were not the beneficiary there
18:35They were on the wrong side of a couple of calls
18:38But to be frank, you can't just start giving up touchdowns four in a row in the second half and start blaming the refs
18:44They have real defensive issues to the Bengals
18:48Problems with the Bengals and I think they'll have
18:51You know a stiff test with the Ravens games
18:54There's no doubt and the Kansas City game on Christmas is craziness

22:26Sunday night game good one this week Lions are in Houston against the Texans Lions minus three and a half
22:34Forty-eight and a half is going to be the total for this one entertaining Sunday night game
22:40well, the problem with the Texans lately is they're not scoring and they're not
22:44Stroud isn't throwing touchdowns and they've had problems at receiver when they lost digs and and Nico went down and now they think you know
22:52Possibly Nico will be back if Nico's back it I think changes everything in this game. I think that Stroud will finally have his guy and
23:01Let's face facts. He is his guy. I I think he is and has been more important this year than
23:08Even digs digs is done for the year
23:10So he's got no more chances there, but I think it could change the entire complexity of this game
23:15But they're not as good as the Lions. So I know everyone wants to
23:21Serve them up as the hot commodity in the NFL
23:24They started with it last year that the Texans were the new darlings of the NFL. Well
23:30they're not scoring and
23:33They're not better than the Lions and all they got going for him is these hot new uniforms are gonna wear
23:38Sunday night and the fact that they're playing at NRG. I think that gives him an edge
23:43an attitude it gives them, you know, if they got Nico back a little bit of a
23:48Taste of moxie, but overall they got a deal with a team that not only wins every week
23:55But they cover every week and they light people up every week. The Lions are frankly unstoppable
24:01So have fun with that. I still like the Lions. I
24:04Like the Lions as well, and I really like that under 48 and a half
24:08I think it's gonna be a little bit of a smash mouth game
24:11And I think the Lions are gonna take care of business in it, of course Sunday morning
24:16We have the Germany game the Giants and the Panthers in Munich
24:22Giants, of course favored in this one

25:32Yeah, it makes makes no sense, you know, not that they were winning with Rudolph but
25:38At least they were moving the ball a little bit. I guess you could either one. They're awful that doesn't matter
