00:00The Agriculture Department targets the use of vaccines from Vietnam against African Swine Fever.
00:08It targets thousands of pigs in different parts of the country.
00:11Clayzel Pardilla is back.
00:16The Food and Drug Administration has issued a Certificate of Product Registration
00:21for the use of vaccines against African Swine Fever.
00:25This is the Avac-ASF vaccine from Vietnam
00:29that the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Animal Industry will use
00:33for the controlled vaccination of pigs.
00:36Based on the first and second phase of the trial,
00:39it was proven to be safe and effective.
00:43The clinical trials has been undergone for almost a year or two years from now.
00:48So basically, this has come to the rigorous process of the Food and Drug Administration
00:55and it has been proven 100% safe and efficacious.
00:58The DA's target is to start the controlled vaccination in September.
01:026,000 pigs will be vaccinated.
01:05Batangas and Oriental Mindoro will be the first,
01:08or those in the Red and Pink Zones, or areas that have ASF cases.
01:13But it will be done slowly and voluntarily for the pigs to be vaccinated.
01:19The DA has already allocated P350 million for the program.
01:24They say ASF is spreading more in the rainy season,
01:28which is why it's time to vaccinate.
01:31If it rains, the dead pigs will go up, they will go crazy.
01:37The ASF is heavy.
01:38It's decades before the virus dies.
01:43If there's a storm, if it rains, it will spread.
01:47It will spread to the roads, to travelers.
01:51The DA believes that the vaccine against ASF
01:55will help in boosting the supply of pigs and lowering the price.
02:00If the vaccine is really effective,
02:03it will definitely have a big effect on our production.
02:07Because people will now invest again,
02:10and we will have more swine.
02:14So there's a good chance that the price of pork will go down.
02:17Aside from vaccinating the ASF,
02:20the DA is also monitoring the bird flu.
02:23Three farms in Tarlac are suspected to have cases of Avian Influenza.
02:27A confirmatory test was done on the pigs.
02:30There's no reason to be alarmed,
02:33and the DA can't see that it will affect the price of chicken and eggs.
