00:00Venezuela prepares for Sunday's presidential election as the streets are calm and the people
00:15are interested in taking part in the elections.
00:21In Palestine, an Israeli strike on a UN school in Gaza killed dozens of civilians and injured
00:26more than a hundred others.
00:31And in Laos, Russia announced that Western countries are fueling international confrontation
00:35by deploying Western weapons in the Asia-Pacific region.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Maldonado from Telesur Studios in
00:49Havana, Cuba.
00:50Let's begin with the news.
01:03The most difficult years seem to be over in Venezuela.
01:06Peace and reactivation, not only the economic, mark the path that is not altered even a few
01:10hours before the presidential elections.
01:13Tranquility that is breathed in Venezuela a few hours prior to the elections is another
01:18one of the achievements of the Venezuelan people, and no, they do not want to lose it.
01:23It is calm.
01:24I think we are already used to voting process.
01:27We do our duty.
01:28This is no longer the same as years ago, many years ago, when people used to shop impulsively.
01:35Something is going to happen, they used to say.
01:38No, it is something we have already overcome.
01:43Although media pressure for any interference and financial sanctions continue, the reactivation
01:48is evident, and not only the economic one.
01:52Artist Felipe Garcia knows it.
01:54He continues to occupy the spaces with his murals and the sun is present in his new works.
02:03It was very difficult at some point, even due to the depressive state that practically
02:09everyone was in.
02:10Today it is not like that.
02:12Today the results have been coming little by little, little by little, and also with
02:18the hope that this is the way to go.
02:23Even the businessmen are aware.
02:25At the undercover sanctions forum held in April, they revealed an open secret.
02:30The financial coercion measures forced them to look for trade alternatives that represented
02:36up to 30% more costs in raw materials or final products.
02:43That produces inflation and consequently affects all Venezuelans, all consumers.
02:48The sanctions do not really affect politicians.
02:51They have never affected politicians.
02:53Even if it serves for something, time will tell.
02:56To strengthen national production, entrepreneurship, and deepen the patriotic sense of independence
03:03that today gives certainty to the people not to surrender.
03:07There is a greater consumption.
03:12People are consuming.
03:13At this moment, people are happy and we see that there is flawlessness.
03:16Capital is being moved and that is what we want.
03:18We continue betting on Venezuela.
03:20And the bet is not only economic.
03:22Although the blockade also affects the cultural industry and, for example, books cannot be
03:29neither imported or exported, the Venezuela book fair was a success and people went massively.
03:40I have had to see that as if, well, this was my money to do the weekly market, but I want
03:47the book so much that I will solve the food issue.
03:51There is an intention to continue investigating in culture.
03:55And in public activities, the rumba, the gathering, Caracas is refurbished, clean.
04:01La Guaira, the coastal border, proudly shows off the beauty of its colonial streets.
04:06The economy is reactivated, yes, but also is the enthusiasm.
04:12Venezuelans walk with their heads held high.
04:15We made it, they seem to say, at every step.
04:19I remember 2017 and 2014 very well.
04:22I remember times when I spent months without leaving the comforts that I had at home.
04:27I will leave my little block because from there might be fire out there.
04:31There might be danger.
04:32Do you know what I mean?
04:34And danger caused by people who do not have very good intentions.
04:37Look how beautifully we are living at this moment.
04:41People working, people reinventing themselves, people building, which is what we have to
04:46aim at keeping it that way and to keep it going forward.
04:49And in that, the first in total agreement, the majority vote.
04:54Paola Dracnyk, TELESUR, Venezuela.
04:58Authorities of the National Electoral Council of Venezuela informed that after midday on
05:02Friday, more than 96% of the polling stations were already installed throughout the country

05:15to 15,797 voting centers in the country.

05:23hours of Friday, 100% of the technical operating personnel of the polling stations was present
05:27in the voting centers set up for the elections.
05:35The president of the Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America, Nicanor Moscoso,
05:40assured on Friday that Venezuela enjoys the best electoral system in Latin America after
05:44analyzing its 20 years of participation in Latin American democratic processes.
05:48In the words of the official, they have been participating in elections for 20 years, from
05:53Mexico to Argentina, so describing the statement about Venezuela's electoral system.
05:57This cataloguing made by Moscoso will be manifested, according to him, in the results delivered
06:04by the National Electoral Council at the end of July 28th, adding that the national democratic
06:08system is unique in Latin America and that it has all the technology implemented in the
06:13voting system.
06:19The American Association of Jurists denounced this Friday that the United States and other
06:23allied nations undertook actions and statements to destabilize the July 28th elections in
06:28Venezuela.
06:29In a press release, the agency explains that the interference in the internal affairs of
06:33the South American country began with a broad media campaign in which various personalities
06:37of the U.S. and allied governments openly called for voting for the opposition to the
06:42Venezuelan government.
06:43It also warned that the maneuvers are very similar to those that led to the coup d'etat
06:47against former Bolivian President Evo Morales in 2019, with the proven participation of
06:52the United States Agency for International Development, the Organization of American
06:56States, and the European Union.
07:03In other news, Peruvian social movements will continue anti-government social protests,
07:07with mobilizations from the interior of the country to the capital, Lima.
07:11The National Unitary Command of Struggle called for three days of protests to demand
07:15the resignation of President Dina Boluarte and the appointment of a new national parliament.
07:20The mobilization will be accompanied by family members and victims of repression and demonstrations
07:25in rejection to the rights of the Boluarte government between 2022 and 2023.
07:30This day of mobilizations is part of the celebration of the 203rd anniversary of Peru's independence.

08:25School in the Gaza Strip.
08:27It is the Khadija School located in the city of Deir al-Bala in the center of the Gaza Strip.
08:32According to the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza, the wounded are receiving major attention

08:49killed since October 2023 is 39,258.

09:01We did not know anything except that the Israeli army was targeting us without prior warning
09:06and that only a girl remains alive from the family.
09:10Four people, the father, the mother, and two children, and all that remained was a girl.
09:17These people were killed and they were sitting at dinner, and suddenly the house was targeted against them.
09:25At least seven Palestinian civilians were released by the Israeli army after being held hostage.
09:31Let us remember that the Tel Aviv regime captured the Gazans in various areas of the Gaza Strip in the midst of genocide.
09:37They show evidence of mistreatment once inflicted by the Israeli captors,
09:41in addition to being in poor health conditions as a result of captivity.
09:45Abuses that the victims suffered even during their transfer to the site of their release.
09:54We were locked in the torture room and we were tormented.
09:58We didn't see the sun nor the food they gave us.
10:01And all the food was very bad.
10:04They give us two meals a day and very little.
10:07We had no clothes and no shampoo.
10:10My face is full of boils because of the lack of hygiene.
10:14While we were in prison, we were not handcuffed, but while they took us outside to a court,
10:19or when they wanted to take us outside, they would put us in handcuffs.
10:24Yesterday they took us from one prison to another.
10:28They put us to sleep there and told us they would come and get us in the morning.
10:33We couldn't walk.
10:37In contrast to the release of seven Palestinians, Israel kidnapped some 40 citizens in the occupied West Bank.
10:43The Prisoners' Club and the Prisoners' Affairs Authority report that the abductions were carried out in Qalqilya and Nablus governorates.
10:51The organizations report that Israel continues to carry out illegal incursions, aggressions and threats against the families of the victims.
10:58These are in addition to the almost 10,000 held by the occupation forces since October 7, 2023.
11:09The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the difficulty to restart the European hospital after the invasion of the Israeli occupation.
11:16The statement said that four health centers were out of service, in addition to several field hospitals.
11:21Voice warned that the number of displaced people in areas with accumulated waste and without personal hygiene supplies increases the spread of the polio virus and other diseases.
11:30The Health Ministry reported that Nasser Hospital is the only one that remains operational in the Gaza Strip.
11:46In China, authorities are on high alert and increase efforts to counteract the impacts of Typhoon Kaimi currently passing through the eastern coast of the country.
12:00World authorities detail that the storm knocked down trees, flooded public roads and damaged crops in several cities in the eastern part of the country.
12:07The hardest hit region is Fujian province.
12:10More than 760,000 people have been affected by the rains and some 304,000 residents have been evacuated.
12:17Local authorities call on citizens to maintain security measures as the rains are expected to continue affecting the territory.

13:19The Russian government denounced that Western countries are fueling international confrontation by deploying Western weapons in the Asia-Pacific region.
13:26Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that Western countries are accelerating the militarization of Asia and the Pacific.
13:32During his speech at the meeting of Southeast Asian Foreign Ministers, ASEAN taking place in Laos.
13:38The Russian Foreign Minister pointed out that in recent years, the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union have promoted the creation of political military blocs and the deployment of nuclear weapons in the region.
13:50Lavrov pointed out that Washington is promoting nuclear partnerships with Japan and South Korea and is pushing for the expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, violating global security.
14:03The West is still promoting narrower formats in East Asia with an open goal, it does not hide it, to contain China and the Russian Federation.
14:13Our ASEAN partners understand it perfectly well and have shown interest in the initiative of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which I have already mentioned, to form a Eurasian security system that would be indivisible and equal, equal in rights.
14:28Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the United States is promoting a nuclear partnership program with Japan and South Korea without providing details of this partnership.
14:38Another concerning issue is that the United States recently entered into a joint nuclear planning agreement with the Republic of Korea.
14:48So far we cannot even get an explanation of what this means.
14:55But we have no doubt that this causes additional concern.
15:00Moreover, they are trying to bring Japan into this scheme of joint nuclear planning.
15:09Russian air defense forces have intercepted and destroyed 21 Ukrainian drones across several regions.
15:15Russian Defense Ministry said that they have ordered an attempted drone attack by Ukraine on several facilities on Russian soil.
15:22Reportedly, 14 drones were destroyed over the Kursk region, 3 over the Belgorod region, 2 over Rostov, 1 over the Bryansk district and 1 over Lipetsk.
15:31They say no fatalities or injuries have been reported. However, detection and extinguishing systems remain on high alert.
15:42Meanwhile in France, the high-speed railway service is still not running at its best following Friday's sabotage on its fiber-optic cables.
15:49The National Railroad Company announced the plan to counter the emergency.
15:52Two high-speed trains will run between La Bretagne and the southwest region in the north.
15:57Eight out of ten trains will be running, while in the east service is back to normal.
16:02Four days say cancellations and delays have affected close to 800,000 commuters amid the 2024 Olympic Games being held in Paris.
16:19The Cultural Festival of Latin America and the Caribbean is held in Moscow, Russia from July 20 to the 28 under the auspices of the Government of the Capital.
16:32Our correspondent Oleg Yasinsky has the details.
16:35Music, color and traditions is the atmosphere of the Cultural Festival of Latin America and the Caribbean in Moscow,
16:45which for the third time is turning on the high temperatures of this capital summer.
16:55Here are presented the wonderful and very authentic national costumes of different Latin American countries that present the culture of their countries.
17:04Also, here you can know and buy different products brought from Brazil, from Peru, from Ecuador.
17:10Here, everyone who wants can feel for a moment inhabitants of a Latin American country.
17:20For me, it has been a divine experience to participate in this Latin American festival held in Russia because I like to interact.
17:27It is a way of expressing our Latin American culture and to see how the Russians assimilate our culture.
17:34Artists from Colombia, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, among others, performed in an open format in the Hermitage Garden during the first days, interacting and sharing with the Russian public.
17:49The musical and performing arts are accompanied by different typical dishes of Latin American cuisine in these spaces for meetings and cultural exchanges.
18:03The atmosphere is positive, everybody is eating and enjoying the summer.
18:12We came here by chance, we were with my friend, we listened to the music, we felt a very nice atmosphere and we decided to go in and look and it was very interesting and we stayed.
18:22The festival included photo exhibitions, literary talks, and a showcase of the best Latin American cinema.
18:29The night was closed by the Hot Havana Orchestra with Latin classics and melodies from the 40s and 50s in Cuba.
18:37People have a lot of information. The Russian public has more information about Cuban music, about Cuban songs, that even in Cuba people don't have much information.
18:47Here people dance Cuban songs, cha-cha-cha, they know all the rhythms. I see that there is an evolution in all this time, not only with Cuban music, but with Latin music in general.
19:01This event, which has already become a good tradition, is one more step to bring our peoples and their cultures closer together, demonstrating that for true friendship, distances do not exist.
