00:00In Haiti, the Living Together coalition of premier groups has been setting fire to residences,
00:18schools and churches since Sunday in revenge for the death of one of its leaders at the
00:22hands of police forces.
00:28Israeli occupation forces stepped up their relentless assault on Kamal Adwan Hospital
00:32in northern Gaza.
00:33More than 30 Palestinians were killed across Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday.
00:39And Ukrainian security services assassinated General Igor Kirilov, chief of the radiological,
00:44chemical and biological defense troops of the Russian armed forces.
00:53Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Erzoo studios in Havana,
00:58Cuba.
00:59We begin with the news.
01:00In Haiti, the Living Together coalition of premier groups has been setting fire to residences,
01:05schools and churches since Sunday in revenge for the death of one of its leaders at the
01:09hands of police forces.
01:11In the middle of a confrontation this weekend, national and multinational police forces neutralized
01:15Elias Jeff Mafia, the lieutenant of Jimmy Cherishier, head of the criminal coalition.
01:22In retaliation, the criminal group maintained an incessant attack on residential areas,
01:26schools and religious centers in Nassau, Poste Marchand and Avenue Popular in Port-au-Prince,
01:31the country's capital.
01:33The order from the leaders of the criminal groups has spread to several provinces in
01:36the center of the country.
01:38In this context, they have warned of a forthcoming attack on the base of operations of the multinational
01:43police forces.
01:50On Tuesday, the United Nations urged to redouble efforts to restore peace in Haiti, recognizing
01:55the need to guarantee fair and transparent elections.
01:58The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti said that efforts to improve the country's
02:02security can generate lasting progress if they are also accompanied by the holding of
02:06credible and inclusive elections.
02:09The UN office also reiterated its commitment to support efforts aimed at gaining the confidence
02:13of Haitian people in their political authorities.
02:16Meanwhile, the office welcomed the continued efforts of the leaders of the Caribbean community
02:20and called on all parties involved in Haiti's transition to spare no effort to ensure the
02:25success marked by peace.
02:33And on December 17, 1830, the great liberator of our America, Simon Bolivar, passed away
02:39at the age of 47.
02:40Today, people across the continent pay homage to a man that changed the course of this territory
02:45forever.
02:46To better understand his present relevance to Latin America and the Caribbean, our colleague
02:50Garfield Pulford preferred the following material.
02:55Simon Bolivar's image adorns public spaces across Venezuela and beyond.
03:00The reason is clear.
03:02El Libertador, or the Liberator, has towered large over the movement for freedom and self-determination
03:08in Latin America and the Caribbean for over two centuries.
03:11The Liberator died on this date in 1830 at the age of 47.
03:16However, his legacy among the pantheon of history's great liberators had already been
03:21secured.
03:22Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro Morales praised Bolivar's leadership of the independence
03:26movement during a recent event.
03:32Then, in 1999, Commander Chavez came to this same hall, the Ayacucho Hall it is called,
03:45in commemoration of the great battle that freed all South America, which we commemorated
03:50last Monday, the 200th anniversary of the great battle of Ayacucho that ended the colonial
03:55imperial domination of Spain over all South America.
04:06Bolivar was a soldier and statesman whose early life had positioned him to rebel against
04:10Spanish rule in the Americas.
04:12His inspiring call to action on freedom from Spanish rule was contained in the Cartagena
04:16Manifesto and the Letter from Jamaica.
04:20Bolivar did not only encourage rebellion against Spanish rule across the region, but led military
04:24expeditions against the Spaniards himself.
04:27He liberated Venezuela, the areas now occupied by Colombia, Panama and Ecuador.
04:32He also freed Peru and Bolivia, which now bears his name.
04:36Bolivar's separate sojourns to Haiti and Jamaica also meant the Caribbean was also a crucial
04:41region in his push for freedom and self-determination.
04:45The late Hugo Chavez summoned that same spirit of Latin American and Caribbean integration
04:49as he spoke in Havana in 1994.
04:54This is a project that we already put in practice in Venezuela under the name of Simon Bolivar
04:59National Project, but with our arms wide open to the rest of the Latin American and Caribbean
05:03continent.
05:06Some 13 years later, then-President Chavez continued to emphasize the importance of this
05:11bond between Latin America and the Caribbean.
05:19We could easily consider the letter of Jamaica like the birth letter, the constitution letter
05:27of the project of independence, the project of liberation of our peoples.
05:34Most historical records indicate Simon Bolivar died from tuberculosis.
05:39His remains were exhumed in 2010, but scientists were unable to conclusively determine the
05:44cause of his death.
05:45Of one thing, though, there can be no doubt.
05:48His legacy lives on, providing echoes of inspiration for the indomitable human spirit.
05:54From Caracas, I'm Garfield Burford for TELUSR.
05:58And in Colombia, a report by the Ombudsman's Office has alerted several social organizations
06:02to figures showing repeated violations of women's rights in the context of the armed
06:06conflict and transgressions of international humanitarian law for communities in that
06:10country.
06:11Let's see more details.
06:16The Ombudsman's Office released a report with figures on violence against women during 2024.
06:22According to the data collected, 745 femicides have been registered, 44 of which were against
06:29girls.
06:30While between January and September alone, more than 26,000 cases of intimate partner
06:35violence and more than 300 cases related to human trafficking were reported.
06:40In addition, it was reported that 205 alerts have been issued on significant risks for
06:45women in conflict contexts.
06:50Today we make a call to improve early warning responses and work together with the most
06:55affected regions of the country to alleviate the serious situation in which the communities
06:59live, strengthen their proposals, and offer protection measures not only individually
07:05but especially collectively with early prevention measures.
07:08In the face of fear, creativity and solidarity.
07:12Never silence.
07:13In the territories, violence is expressed with greater force against women who exercise
07:24leadership in their communities and fight for social and welfare demands related to
07:29the recovery of land and the implementation of comprehensive rural reform.
07:37And for this reason, for accompanying these people who are fighting to be heard, to be
07:42given their rights, to be listened to and to be given land to work, I am being threatened
07:47and stigmatized.
07:49I am being threatened and stigmatized by a guy named Mauricio Torres, who is a retired
07:57colonel of the security forces.
07:59He is also the partner of the widow of Olmedo Ocampo, the drug trafficker who was the owner
08:04of the Cachepay farm.
08:06I am making this public denunciation because they are saying in all the media that I am
08:11a guerrilla swindler.
08:19Social organizations describe this scenario as a very complex situation, in the midst
08:24of the search for total peace that the current government has been promoting, since only
08:28in the last two years, several armed groups have deepened their military actions and have
08:33degraded continuously violating international humanitarian law.
08:38Displacements, confinements, assassinations, massacres, extortions, kidnappings, recruitment
08:49of minors and planting of mines, in general, everything that is prohibited by international
08:54humanitarian law.
09:03But also the political discourse that relates them to society and the possibility of maintaining
09:07political and social recognition with the people, has also been degraded because they
09:18have prioritized the taking of territories, the dispute of territories, the dispute of
09:23mines, drug trafficking, human trafficking of species, and in general a series of illegal
09:28businesses that delegitimize them little by little, and that if they continue along this
09:32route of lumpenization, the government will have to change its strategy of dialogue.
09:44The challenges for the current government are growing with each passing day.
09:48A total peace and dialogues with different armed actors totally fragmented.
09:53A difficult situation for the communities and their leadership in the territories.
09:58In addition to the social transformation projects that do not advance in the Congress, where
10:02there is a parliamentary class that has been fed by the conflict.

10:21Welcome back.
10:43Argentina closes 2024 with a food inflation rate of 183%, surpassing Haiti, Angola, and
10:49Malawi due to the worst crisis ever in its history.
10:52The food inflation rate measures how the prices of basic foodstuff acquired by Argentine households
10:58vary.
10:59In addition, the trading economics dedicated to the analysis and interpretation of economic
11:02data stated that the Mideast government allocated less than three figures to programs for the
11:08people's welfare.
11:10Moreover, the entity highlighted Argentina in the 2024 at the top of the list of countries
11:15with the highest food inflation rate.
11:23After being deported from the United States, the drug lord Luciel Cárdenas Guillén, former
11:27leader of the Gulf Cartel and founder of the bloodthirsty group known as Los Zetas, was
11:31sent to prison in Mexico.
11:34The Secretary for Security and Citizen Protection said that the drug lord was handed over at
11:399.45 local time at the Tijuana border in northern Mexico by federal authorities.
11:45After 5 p.m. local time, it was confirmed that he had been admitted to the Social Reinsertion
11:49Center in Mexico City.
11:51The Attorney General's Office issued three warrants against him for aggravated homicide,
11:55organized crime, and crimes against health in addition to several other crimes totaling
12:00more than 730 years in prison.
12:10And the Mayan train, the emblematic work of former Mexican President Andrés Manuel López
12:14Obrador, has been in operation for one year, and the current president Claudia Sheinbaum
12:18highlighted its value beyond transportation.
12:20Let's see.
12:24The Mexican president showed on this map how the Mayan train was completed.
12:29Remember the inauguration of sections 6 and 7 of this flagship project of the so-called
12:33fourth transformation of Mexico's public life.
12:40The train is the recognition of the Mayan culture.
12:43This idea that the Spaniards arrived and brought civilization is totally erroneous and wrong,
12:49and the only thing it leads to is to give permanence to the discrimination that came
12:53with the colony.
12:59As of last August, 340,000 passengers had used this flagship facility.
13:04A few hours before its first anniversary, it was reported that the figure reached more
13:08than 600,000, 20 percent of the estimated goal of 3 million people.
13:15This dynamic of linkage with our airports, with the resorts that are in our state, which
13:21have a lot to offer in terms of tourism, is already beginning to be generated.
13:29The Mayan train created 44,000 direct jobs and 18,000 indirect jobs, a figure that will
13:36increase with the start-up of the Mayan hotels along the route.
13:42The Mayan train also means social justice, because it provides welfare and development
13:47with justice for the communities and peoples of southeastern Mexico.
13:56The work, which took four years, has as one of its objectives to bring welfare to the
14:00native communities and to rescue the archaeological pieces found during construction.
14:06And today the 1,554 kilometers of railroads, social justice, and narrowing the inequality
14:13gaps have been achieved.
14:18The Mayan train is consolidating its position as an important tourist link through vacation
14:23packages, in spite of the criticisms made by some people.
14:28There's no place here to have a sandwich or a coffee, nothing.
14:34Environmental groups have denounced the environmental damage caused by the project, although according
14:39to the government, 500 million trees have been reforested to repair the environmental
14:43damage.
14:44Daniel Rosas, Telesur, Ciudad de Mexico.
15:01The U.S. Geological Survey registered Tuesday a 7.4-mile earthquake in the South Pacific
15:06archipelago of Vanuatu, triggering a tsunami warning.
15:09The earthquake occurred 30 kilometers west of the coast of Port Vila, the country's capital.
15:13So far, authorities have not reported any death or injuries.
15:18The U.S. Forecasting Service warned that smaller waves are expected in some nations close to
15:22the Pacific Ocean.
15:24In this regard, the defense minister of New Zealand, Mark Mitchell, said that the government
15:29is closely following the situation in the archipelago, noting the nation is ready to
15:33send the necessary aid.
15:37Meanwhile, in Mozambique, the National Institute of Risk and Disaster Management reported 34
15:46deaths from Chito storm, which battered northern domestic regions on Sunday.
15:50The INGD stressed that a 30-year-old girl was among the fatal victims, warning that
15:55the aforesaid death toll is likely to skyrocket.
15:58The entity further specified that the storm made over 34,000 Mozambican families lose
16:04their homes, as the weather phenomenon brought winds of around 260 kilometers per hour.
16:09Furthermore, authorities announced the destruction of schools, health facilities and fishing
16:13boats as well.
16:15Likewise, the Electricidad de Mozambique updated that about 200,000 customers are still without
16:21power.
16:22I took my children and while we were running, I saw other families falling due to the force
16:33of the wind, and others dodging things that fell from the houses due to the wind.
16:38People were lucky that the zinc sheets didn't cut them into pieces.
16:42Children couldn't stop crying.
16:43I saw children running away, but I didn't see where they ran to.
16:47In the end, thank God, I realized all the children are here at school.
16:52There are old people here, women and children who are hungry.

17:51Israeli Occupational Forces step up their relentless assault on Kema'at One Hospital
17:55in northern Gaza.
17:56More than 30 Palestinians were killed across Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday.
18:00Despite repeated appeals by the director of the World Health Organization, Tedros
18:04Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has described the situation in the hospital as a living hell,
18:08the siege against the center continues unabated.
18:11Its director, Hossam Abou Safeya, confirmed power outages, shortages of medicines and
18:16medical supplies, and constant bombardments.
18:19The situation in other areas of the Strip is no better.
18:22Several areas have been bombed.
18:23One of these attacks, the whole Al-Turk Tabatibi family, was killed, 10 people in total, almost
18:29all women and children.
18:34Meanwhile, the Palestinian Prisoner Information Office said that more than 5,000 inmates in
18:40Israeli prisons suffered deliberate medical neglect and torture.
18:44Israeli Occupational Forces carried out mass arrests, during which they ill-treated and
18:48humiliated Palestinian men and boys.
18:51Detainees were handcuffed, blindfolded, and held without food and water for periods ranging
18:56from 5 to 19 hours, resulting in the death of several of them.
19:00The number of arrests since the beginning of the current Israeli operation against Palestine
19:05has reached more than 12,100 West Bank citizens.
19:21The Egyptian government acted as a mediator, summoning the President of Palestine Mahmoud
19:26Abbas to hold peace negotiations.
19:28Subsequently, leader Abbas is heading for Cairo after his one-hour meeting with Pope
19:32Francis.
19:33Likewise, Egyptian security sources assured that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was
19:37not in Cairo right now.
19:39However, they stated a meeting was on the way to work through remaining issues, such
19:43as a Hamas demand for guarantees, stressing that any immediate deal would lead to a comprehensive
19:48agreement later.
19:50Furthermore, they advanced the encounter has been fruitful so far.
19:53Thus, they estimated that Tuesday night could be decisive in setting the next step.
20:02And on Monday, the self-proclaimed Syrian leader Mohammed al-Jolani assured that the
20:06nation would not lend its territory to mount attacks on Israel.
20:10The leader said so in an interview to a British outlet on the name he prefers to use now,
20:16Ahmed al-Shara.
20:17With this identity, he hopes to disassociate himself from his past as the founder of one
20:21of the most bloodthirsty branches of the terrorist group al-Qaeda.
20:24Al-Jolani, who is under an international arrest warrant for being considered by Washington
20:30as a specially designated global terrorist, has guaranteed the security of the Syrian
20:34entity, assuring that they will comply with the agreements.
20:42Germany and France join the United Kingdom and the United States on Tuesday.
20:47They meet with an al-Qaeda member who proclaimed himself the leader of Syria after toppling
20:51its president.
20:52The governments of the four nations were part of the alliance of 63 countries that repeatedly
20:56bombed the Arab nation for 13 years, in violation of the United Nations resolution.
21:01The German foreign ministry confirmed that the meeting to be held this Tuesday in Damascus
21:05will focus on the transition processes for Syria and the protection of minorities.
21:11Although al-Qaeda has been in power for less than a week, Berlin has considered that this
21:15is enough time to qualify its action as prudent, an argument with which they explained the
21:20meeting.
21:21The French delegation has not commented on its presence in Damascus.
21:29Ukrainian Security Service assassinated General Igor Kirillov, chief of the radiological, chemical
21:34and biological defense troops of the Russian Armed Forces.
21:37The news was confirmed by Svetlana Petrenko, representative of the Investigation Committee
21:41of Russia.
21:42According to reports, the incident occurred near the residence of the high official, in
21:46which his assistant was also killed.
21:49The Investigation Committee published minutes after the fact was confirmed that the improvised
21:53explosive device was placed on an electric scooter parked on Ryansanskiy Avenue.
21:58In this context, Ukrainian security services have claimed responsibility for the assassination.
22:04General Kirillov led investigations that exposed U.S. involvement in biological labs in Ukraine
22:09and other countries.
22:12Like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
