00:00The Lin Kuei will banish you.
00:03Your clan cannot terminate me.
00:06Wishful thinking, machine.
00:08Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at the best video game DLC that featured another franchise or IP.
00:14We won't be looking at crossover events, like those found in Fortnite.
00:18Before we begin, we publish new content all week long.
00:30So, be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:36The Assassin's Festival Final Fantasy XV
00:49While this DLC was sadly only available for a limited time, those who played it know how surprisingly good it was.
00:56It saw the main characters heading to a special festival themed around Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed.
01:01There were several minigames and plenty of cosmetics to earn, which was all in good fun.
01:06But, a bit more impressively, there was also a unique story that saw Noctis learn how to behave like an assassin,
01:12including running across rooftops and slipping into crowds unnoticed.
01:22This could have easily been something lighter and generic,
01:25but bringing Assassin's Creed gameplay elements into a Final Fantasy setting was not only an interesting fit, but a loving celebration.
01:43New sets of wheels. Rocket League
01:53Although some of it would later get discontinued, Rocket League still received a slew of great crossover DLC.
01:59As you might expect from a game centered around rocket-powered cars,
02:02the majority of DLC was of iconic vehicles from across a variety of properties.
02:07These ranged from more than one type of Batmobile to the DeLorean from Back to the Future,
02:12from the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck from Twisted Metal.
02:23Naturally, none of them had much of an impact on gameplay, but that wasn't what mattered.
02:28With so many famous vehicles and pop culture, the joy came from picking your favorite or favorites.
02:38Midgar Special – Power Wash Simulator
02:47Surprisingly, Power Wash Simulator has one of the more satisfying gameplay hooks of the past few years.
02:53A lot of people apparently agree, which has led to several crossover DLC packs,
02:58such as one where you get to clean Lara Croft's mansion.
03:01As much fun as that one was, it's the crossover with Final Fantasy we like the most.
03:05It takes you through a handful of levels inspired by the famous city,
03:08including one where you watch the iconic Scorpion Sentinel.
03:15The same calming gameplay found in the base game is elevated here, especially for fans of Final Fantasy.
03:21It's hard not to feel completely at ease or smile widely as you move between each challenge.
03:30The Killers – Dead by Daylight
03:36The asymmetric multiplayer juggernaut Dead by Daylight was almost built with crossovers in mind.
03:42It's a fun enough hook, tasking a group with surviving and escaping from one lone player in control of a masked killer.
03:49But without the frequent DLC crossover characters, we doubt it would still be as popular.
03:55If you can think of a horror franchise, it has likely been included.
03:59Ghostface from Scream, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill,
04:02the Demogorgon from Stranger Things,
04:04and Wesker from Resident Evil are just a few villains you can take control of.
04:08There have also been some solid new survivors over the years, but the Killers are where the fun's at.
04:15Operation Guns – Vampire Survivors
04:23Vampire Survivors is an awesome bullet-hell roguelike that has you balancing weapons and abilities to stay alive as long as possible,
04:30with and without a weapon.
04:32Vampire Survivors is an awesome bullet-hell roguelike that has you balancing weapons and abilities to stay alive as long as possible,
04:39Vampire Survivors is an awesome bullet-hell roguelike that has you balancing weapons and abilities to stay alive as long as possible,
04:44with that kind of description, its crossover DLC with Contra is naturally a perfect fit.
04:50This could have easily been something simple, but the developers went above and beyond.
04:59Operation Guns brought 8 new characters, including poster boys Bill and Lance,
05:04more than 20 new automatic weapons, maps and enemies inspired by the series, as well as classic and remixed music.
05:11All that greatness on top of the addictive, satisfying gameplay hook that made Vampire Survivors a hit in the first place.
05:18What more could you want?
05:25Icons – Mortal Kombat 11
05:34Ever since Freddy Krueger appeared as DLC in Mortal Kombat 9,
05:40NetherRealm has included more and more iconic characters from other properties that players could purchase.
05:45We believe this peaked with MK11 due to the variety of crossovers present.
05:50We got ultra-violent comic characters, Spawn and Joker.
05:54We also got Robocop, Rambo and the Terminator to the delight of violent 80s action film fans everywhere.
06:04The swarm numbers in the millions.
06:08This war isn't ever ending.
06:10Although not a crossover in the strict sense,
06:12it was also great seeing Keiri Hiroyuki Togawa reprise his role as Shang Tsung from the 1995 live-action movie.
06:19And wouldn't you know it, playing with each of these characters was a bloody good time.
06:23Why reject Kronika's destiny for you?
06:28No one controls my fate.
06:31The grandest illusion of all.
06:34AWE – Control
06:37Darkness engulfed the elevator.
06:40There was something there, reaching for her, trying to make her act.
06:45Yes, it's a crossover between two franchises owned by the same company,
06:49but since none of us were expecting Alan Wake to come back, we're still going to include it.
06:54While there were some links in the base game,
06:56AWE saw them crossover in a much more definitive way.
07:00It followed Control protagonist Jesse Faden as she explored the twisted Oldest House,
07:05with Alan himself narrating alongside you as if it were one of his novels.
07:09They all turned into something else.
07:11A third thing.
07:13The sound made darker.
07:15The darkness made louder.
07:17Enemy design was at its peak, making these settings supremely unnerving.
07:21The story was also very strong, tying up some loose threads from the 2010 game
07:25while setting up some interesting plot points for 2023's Alan Wake 2.
07:30What the hell?
07:32Now now, come on.
07:34You misunderstand me.
07:42The Legend of Monkey Island – Sea of Thieves
07:46Once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear all the seafaring adventures of the mighty pirate Kybrush Threepwood.
07:51Straight from the legend himself.
07:53Over the course of multiple expansions, Sea of Thieves became one of the best pirate games out there.
07:58So seeing it crossover with the Monkey Island series was a genuine delight.
08:02Consisting of three tall tales, The Legend of Monkey Island brought an original plotline
08:07with some famous characters and locations from the classic LucasArts adventure franchise.
08:12These docks sure are pretty.
08:15You get a great view of the ocean.
08:17From here, I can see the spot where Sheriff Shinetop tried to drown me.
08:21The quest to rescue Guybrush Threepwood, once again voiced wonderfully by Dominic Armato,
08:27brought spot on writing and humor.
08:29And for the most part, Rare did a great job adapting gameplay elements to fit the Sea of Thieves style.
08:35That's not to mention the cool unlockable cosmetics that added a bit of fun to theming your ship and pirate.
08:41No food or drink permitted during the event.
08:43Please keep your hands and feet inside the mansion at all times.
08:47Fighter Passes – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
08:52Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
08:56The base roster of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate featured some great crossover fighters.
09:01But with nearly every DLC character, the team managed to continuously build hype.
09:07Beginning with the reveal of Persona 5's Joker at the 2018 Game Awards,
09:11each one became an event for fans to speculate on.
09:14Banjo & Kazooie
09:25The majority of them weren't owned by Nintendo either.
09:27Banjo & Kazooie, Steve from Minecraft, Kazooia from Tekken, and Sora from Kingdom Hearts
09:33each took over the internet when they were revealed.
09:35Of course, as with any character in Smash, they were all viable combatants if you knew how to use them.
09:41And honestly, we kind of miss looking forward to them.
09:53Return to Castlevania – Dead Cells
10:01Motion Twin's Dead Cells crossing over with one of its inspirations is an obvious pairing,
10:06but it's still an incredible one.
10:08The last expansion the game received is perhaps its strongest,
10:11adding several new biomes based on Dracula's Castle.
10:14They were immaculately recreated and came with iconic enemies from across the franchise,
10:19naturally concluding with an awesome fight against the Big Bad Drac.
10:32All of the weapons and outfits were a joy to track down and use too.
10:36Anyone who's played Dead Cells knows how phenomenally it controls.
10:40And since we haven't gotten an actual Castlevania game in years,
10:44it's an incredible tribute that fans should not miss.
