00:00 You wouldn't.
00:01 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at the best superhero video games to release since 2014.
00:17 This is coming together exactly how I planned.
00:23 Before we begin, we publish new content all week long,
00:26 so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:30 While the story of this LEGO installment mostly focused on the villains,
00:45 that doesn't change the fact that it deserves to be included.
00:48 You'll find the same charming design and easy-to-pick-up gameplay as found in previous games,
00:53 but the story creatively had players customize their own villain,
00:56 teaming up with the likes of Joker, Lex Luthor, Sinestro, and many other Justice League rogues.
01:02 With the heroic team replaced by evil impostors, it fell to the villains to save the day.
01:12 Like most other LEGO games, DC Super-Villains is a light-hearted romp
01:16 that comedically showcases the vast potential of its IP,
01:20 and it's plenty of fun to play, whether alone or in co-op.
01:23 It seems that once Midnight Suns was announced to be a tactics game,
01:43 most players lost interest, and that's a shame, because developer Firaxis clearly knows its stuff.
01:49 Like DC Super-Villains, players create a customizable hero who teams up with the titans of the Marvel Universe,
01:55 including Wolverine, Iron Man, and Scarlet Witch,
01:58 as well as some lesser-known heroes like Niko Minoru and Magic.
02:02 Drawing from its work on the XCOM series with a little bit of deck-building mechanics mixed in,
02:12 Firaxis delivered a well-balanced but addictive combat experience.
02:16 That's not to mention excellent voice work from performers seasoned in their roles,
02:21 such as Steve Blum as Wolverine and Yuri Lowenthal as Spider-Man.
02:25 Infamous Second Son
02:30 Just making our cut-off date and reminding us that it's been far too long since we got an infamous game,
02:44 Second Son is a great entry in Sucker Punch's original superhero series.
02:48 It follows new protagonist Delson Rowe, one of the last remaining conduits on Earth following the climax of Infamous 2.
02:55 "Gotta tell you, man, I think at the rate I'm going with the powers thing, I'm like one, maybe two away from storming her castle."
03:01 "Okay, why don't we slow down there, hotshot?"
03:04 The studio crafted an impressive open world, both from a visual and mechanical standpoint.
03:09 With every new power Delson gains, the player unlocks a new way to interact with Seattle, as destructively as they see fit.
03:16 Gameplay is king here. It's extremely easy to just get lost blasting your way around the city.
03:23 Batman The Enemy Within
03:32 "Bane, you're working with them?"
03:38 "Director Waller promised you revenge. Here's your chance."
03:41 Telltale's original Batman game was a unique take on the caped crusader, but ultimately didn't rise above mediocre.
03:48 Thankfully, its sequel was a fair bit stronger.
03:51 It follows Batman infiltrating a shadowy group of villains called the Pact,
03:55 which includes many members of his famous rogues gallery.
03:59 The studio's formula, a combination of excruciating decision making and wonderful character writing, worked wonders here.
04:06 "I guess that's it. I really wanted to be a hero, you know?"
04:11 Particularly, they managed to take the Joker, by far the most adapted Batman villain,
04:16 and find an interesting new angle with him through your choices.
04:20 Telltale may have shot itself in the foot with all its expensive licenses,
04:24 but its work on The Enemy Within is arguably some of its best.
04:28 "Tell me he'll stay."
04:31 "Well, maybe just one more night."
04:35 South Park, the fractured but whole.
04:38 "Yeah, this superhero stuff really hurts. I better go back to my university."
04:42 "Oh, you're leaving? Dude, that sucks."
04:44 As silly as it may be, Ubisoft's time with these foul-mouthed children resulted in one of the best superhero games of the decade.
04:52 As the new kid in town, you get wrapped up in a make-believe superhero turf war between all the other children.
04:58 But, fitting completely with the show it adapts, it escalates to absurd degrees,
05:03 where you end up fighting crime families, monsters, and even Morgan Freeman.
05:07 "That's called a kiss from the lips that never smile."
05:13 You can feel the love put into it, primarily because creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone
05:18 worked on it in a number of roles, including writing and voicing most of the characters.
05:23 So yeah, it's true to its nature and humor, but it's also just a well-built RPG.
05:28 "Mr. Yamashiro is actually a very good driver."
05:32 "Microaggression!"
05:34 Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
05:36 The MCU version of the team is understandably treasured, so we don't say this lightly.
05:51 The dynamic of them here is just as strong, if not better, in some instances.
05:56 It picks up on the group barreling and smashing their way around the galaxy
06:00 when they accidentally release an all-powerful, highly destructive being called Magus.
06:05 Naturally, responsibility and self-growth are big themes in the game.
06:10 "I can be quite forceful."
06:13 "Peter Quill. I believe she is flirting with me."
06:21 This is shown beautifully in Peter Quill's arc, but also cleverly plays into the gameplay.
06:27 Instead of picking a Guardian to control, we play as Quill and give orders to teammates in combat.
06:33 This adds a bit of strategy to the action,
06:35 as you have to use the proper ability of the proper member at the proper time.
06:39 Batman Arkham Knight.
06:49 "That together we could take you out, and Gotham would be ours."
06:53 "Over my dead body."
06:55 "I believe that was the idea."
06:58 It's not every day a trilogy ends on such a high note.
07:01 With Scarecrow terrorizing Gotham with the help of the new Arkham Knight,
07:05 we took a severely traumatized Bruce through an explosive climax.
07:09 Though shortcomings like an over-reliance on the Batmobile and the obvious Jason Todd twist
07:14 have been well documented, Rocksteady still delivered in nearly every category.
07:18 "I have more in store for you than hitting things."
07:21 Bruce was still a powerhouse to control,
07:27 whether meeting a group of brutes head-on or stealthily picking them off one by one.
07:31 Visually and technically, it was an undeniable improvement over its predecessor,
07:36 2011's Arkham City, due to releasing on a newer generation of consoles.
07:41 While City remains the favorite for most fans, Knight certainly deserves respect.
07:45 "What's wrong?"
07:52 "Scared."
07:54 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Shredder's Revenge.
08:06 For a long time, it seemed like TMNT games had peaked in 1991 with Turtles in Time.
08:13 But then, a beautiful thing happened, when Tribute Games blended everything great
08:17 about the arcade classic with modern improvements and quality of life changes.
08:22 Shredder's Revenge has enough retro flair and love for the Turtles to bring a smile
08:26 to any diehard fan's face. Beyond that, it's also one of the best beat-em-ups in ages.
08:31 "Badass."
08:38 Every character controls like a dream, with the nice addition of upgrades to each of them
08:43 as you play. The soundtrack is reminiscent of the classic 80's series, and crisp visuals,
08:48 lovely animations, and lively level design all make it a treat for the eyes.
08:52 "Bahaha!"
08:55 "My snout, hoi!"
08:57 Injustice 2.
08:59 "No hard feelings."
09:01 Unsurprisingly, NetherRealm followed up its work on 2013's Injustice with an even stronger sequel.
09:13 The single-player campaign continued its look at the alternate universe,
09:16 with Batman freeing Superman to stop a greater threat led by Brainiac.
09:20 Once again, the unique spin on these heroes and their allegiances was captivating.
09:25 But clearly, having godlike characters in the palm of your hands,
09:28 able to unleash their powers on your opponents, was what we really came for.
09:32 With an expanded roster that included newcomers Supergirl, Blue Beetle, Gorilla Grodd, Poison Ivy,
09:46 as well as the Ninja Turtles and Hellboy as DLC, there were a lot of glorious matchups to play out.
09:52 Plus, with tweaks to combat mechanics and a wealth of content, it's just a joy to play.
09:57 Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
10:05 Beginning with its 2018 original, Insomniac have consistently worked on perfecting their Spider-Man
10:16 experience, and each time we're surprised by how the studio manages to keep raising the bar.
10:22 Spider-Man 2 feels remarkably good to play, from every web swing, to every wind current,
10:27 to every punch delivered squarely to a bad guy's face,
10:30 primarily due to its stellar use of the DualSense controller.
10:33 Insomniac is incredible when it comes to giving us satisfying mechanics,
10:44 looped in through impressive set pieces. From the riveting Sandman opening,
10:49 through Peter's dark turn all the way up to the climax with Venom,
10:52 it delivers an engaging superhero narrative with plenty of spectacle to boot.
10:57 What's been your favorite modern superhero game? Share your love in the comments,
