00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and please update your game to hear the rest of this intro.
00:15These are the 10 games that got better with updates.
00:19Back in my day we had to take games as they were, bugs, glitches and all.
00:22Now we're lucky enough to be able to tweak games post release.
00:25For better or worse that's the way it is now, and for better these are the games it was
00:29effective on.
00:30Before we continue, we publish content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:34the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:38GTA Online
00:48Known for its chaos and mayhem, GTA is almost always praised and respected, and even though
00:53GTA 4 featured some fun online moments, GTA 5 has built a wildly successful, profitable
00:59and still incredibly popular online game with GTA 5 Online.
01:03Its popularity and success today has made people forget that it truly did have an incredibly
01:07rough launch.
01:08It launched 2 weeks after the main game, and with a dedicated release it was plagued by
01:12severe connection issues.
01:14After 2 attempted fixes over the span of 10 days, the major issues were resolved, transforming
01:19it into a captivating experience for players who received half a million dollars in game
01:23currency as an apology.
01:25And that's the kind of update I can get around.
01:34Cyberpunk 2077
01:39With all the games on this list, Cyberpunk 2077 ranks higher because it only went from
01:43terrible to decent, while others had a far better glow up.
01:46That being said, it undoubtedly had one of the most infamous and disastrous launches
01:50we've ever seen in a video game.
01:53Despite multiple delays, the game debuted with strong sales and even stronger backlash.
01:57While it performed adequately, and that is truly the bare minimum on PC, players who
02:02opted for the old gen console versions encountered significant issues, even though they were
02:06led to believe it would have been fine on older gen consoles.
02:09The game was plagued by bugs that made it nearly unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One, forcing
02:13Sony to hand out refunds like candy on Halloween.
02:16Fortunately through updates, the game has reached a state that most would consider acceptable
02:21from the outset.
02:22It is now playable on all supported hardware.
02:24The game will never get the praise it could have had it met the expected standard at launch,
02:28but it is widely considered decent today, though many have been burnt too hard to give
02:32it a good go.
02:39Fallout 76
02:51Much like Cyberpunk, Fallout 76 had one of the more awful and disastrous launches we'll
02:56see on this list, and although it has been updated to playable, it's still just fine.
03:02Fallout 76 remains a stain on Bethesda's reputation.
03:05as the ambitious online RPG Fallout fans had long awaited, instead Bethesda pulled down
03:11their dacks, bent over and took a massive s*** right on our consoles.
03:15We've covered a million times what was wrong with this game, but just imagine a barely
03:19functioning PS1 demake of Fallout 3.
03:22Throughout 2019, updates like Wild Appalachia and Nuclear Winter introduced new content,
03:27but it was the 2020 edition of Wastelanders that marked a turning point.
03:32Wastelanders notably introduced human NPCs, breathing life into Fallout 76's post-apocalyptic
03:37world.
03:38Well done Bethesda.
03:39Where's Elder Scrolls 6?
03:42Fortnite
03:52Looking at the love-to-hate memefied mammoth that Fortnite is today, it's easy to forget
03:57its original incarnation.
03:58Initially it was a largely forgettable cooperative PvE survival game, before Epic Games pivoted
04:04towards the battle royale genre inspired by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
04:08This decision turned out to be one of the most lucrative in gaming history, transforming
04:11Fortnite into a billion dollar IP with a global playerbase in the millions.
04:16Today it's renowned for its diverse gameplay, where characters like Rue from Street Fighters
04:20can face off against Spider-Man with shotguns.
04:23Even though its original game wasn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, it's inarguable
04:27that the game got better with an update and change in direction.
04:30It's also arguably one of the most popular games of all time, alongside beasts like Minecraft.
04:44Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
04:46Much like GTA Online, game updates can sometimes obscure just how rough a game's launch was,
04:51as seen by Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.
04:54Today it stands as a premier esports title with predominantly positive reviews.
04:58However, early adopters recall a shaky initial few months for this multiplayer shooter.
05:03At one point, Ubisoft even faced the possibility of taking the game offline due to its issues,
05:09which by today's standards seems impossible.
05:11With hard work and a little bit of elbow grease from Ubisoft Montreal team, the gameplay was
05:15overhauled, the maps reworked and more operatives were added, turning the game into the FPS
05:20masterpiece it's known as today.
05:27Star Wars Battlefront 2
05:41Upon its release, Star Wars Battlefront 2 wasn't actually a bad game.
05:44It featured solid controls, an enjoyable albeit uninspired single-player mode and was generally
05:50a fun shooter.
05:51However, EA anticipated its immense popularity and recognising this opportunity, EA and developer
05:56DICE decided to heavily incorporate microtransactions into Battlefront 2, which caused consumers
06:02to tear it apart like a spoiled kid's Christmas wrapping.
06:05A year later and amidst widespread backlash, EA yielded and unlocked all heroes in the
06:10game, a pivotal demand from players.
06:12Also, their initial apology on Reddit holds the Guinness World Record for the most downvoted
06:16comment of all time.
06:18So there's that.
06:31Street Fighter V
06:43Street Fighter V faced significant issues with bugs and connectivity upon its release,
06:47but its most glaring flaw was the lack of content.
06:51Starting to see a pattern?
06:52While launching with 16 fighters was respectable, the initial release was notably devoid of
06:57a story mode and an arcade mode, the latter being a standard feature since the days of
07:02Street Fighter 2.
07:03Much like all the entries on this list, both these modes were added with later updates,
07:07questioning the choice to release without it to this day.
07:10Looking at its current version, it is one of Capcom's most polished fighting games to
07:13date, but it was a close one.
07:15It was almost time for a fatal… finisher.
07:23Halo The Master Chief Collection
07:41Halo The Master Chief Collection should have been released under the title Halo and the
07:45library of crap.
07:46Persistent server and matchmaking issues made multiplayer an ordeal, particularly with the
07:51older games like Halo 2 plagued by bugs and glitches.
07:54Even single player experiences offered only partial relief, frequently crashing on the
07:58Xbox One.
07:59Fast forward to the 2020s and The Master Chief Collection has transformed into not just the
08:02definitive Halo experience today, but the ultimate destination for Halo enthusiasts.
08:07The collection achieved all promises and then some, making it the third entry on this list.
08:13Final Fantasy XIV
08:28As the second most infamous comeback on our list, Final Fantasy XIV deserves a big mention.
08:34When it debuted in 2010 it was a major disappointment, presenting as a hollow game with poor gameplay,
08:38a cumbersome interface and pervasive lack of polish.
08:42Despite its stunning visuals, the game struggled immensely.
08:45Running it required bitcoin mining PC power and an exorcism from an Italian priest.
08:50To salvage it, Square Enix enlisted Naoki Yoshida, known as Yoshi P, fresh from his
08:54success with Dragon Quest X, to revitalize the original Final Fantasy XIV while simultaneously
09:00developing a completely new version to replace it.
09:03Imagine that, your friend cooks a terrible roast meal for Thanksgiving and you've got
09:07to polish his monstrous cooking to present to everybody while simultaneously making a
09:11whole separate and better Thanksgiving roast.
09:13Finally, Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn launched to widespread acclaim from both critics
09:18and players, and Yoshi P gave us one of the most succulent roast turkeys we've ever tasted.
09:24Yum.
09:25No Man's Sky.
09:42No Man's Sky is the biggest and best example of the transformative power of post-launch
09:47updates.
09:48Leading up to its highly anticipated release way back in 2016, the game promised players
09:52an expansive universe filled with uncharted planets to explore.
09:55Pre-release trailers portrayed it as an unforgettable experience, but for many who purchased it
10:00at launch, they were met with what appeared to be a totally different game from what was
10:04promised.
10:05To go into everything that was left out or lied about from the publicity circuit the
10:08game went on would take all day.
10:10With their reputation burnt to the ground, Hello Games got back to work steadily releasing
10:14a series of updates over the following years.
10:17These updates not only addressed numerous issues, but also introduced substantial new
10:21features, ultimately transforming No Man's Sky into arguably the finest space simulation
10:26ever crafted.
