00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we definitely didn t see that coming. These are the 20 single
00:15player games with the best endings. A story is only as good as its ending. Wrap up good
00:19and send us home on a good note. Let s do it. Before we continue, we publish content
00:24all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified of our latest
00:29videos. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
00:43The Witcher 3 offers around 36 possible endings in its base version, many of which depend
00:47on the fate of various characters you encounter. Ultimately though, the ending you get is determined
00:52by what happens to Ciri. Depending on your choices, she can live and become a witcher,
00:56tragically die or even ascend to become empress. It s a tough decision, but the witcher ending
01:01is without a doubt the best. The idea of Ciri and Geralt travelling the world together as
01:05witches feels like the natural and satisfying payoff for making the right decisions throughout
01:10the game.
01:25Final Fantasy 7 The ending of Final Fantasy 7 on the PS1
01:39is a powerful, bittersweet conclusion to Cloud s journey. After defeating Sephiroth, Cloud
01:44and his allies manage to stop Meteor with the help of the planet s consciousness. However,
01:49in a surprising twist, Aerith, who sacrificed herself earlier, appears in spirit, signalling
01:54her continuing influence. The final scene shows a peaceful green landscape, implying
01:58that life will go on. It s the perfect wrap up to a story that felt even bigger than the
02:02characters we d come to love. The fate of the characters doesn t really matter because
02:06we actually ended up feeling like saving the world was the most important thing to
02:09do.
02:20Earthbound In Earthbound, the climactic battle against
02:31the entity Giygas requires the player to repeatedly use a party member s prayer ability
02:36to summon the goodwill of all the people the heroes helped throughout their journey. This
02:39goodwill is then turned into powerful attacks to defeat Giygas, easily an epic moment even
02:44without what follows. After the battle, the player is returned to their world where they
02:48walk through familiar locations reflecting on the good they ve done, saying farewell
02:52to friends and finally heading home. While this may seem simple, there s a unique magic
02:57in Earthbound allowing players to experience what many games would rush through in a cut
03:01The real emotional depth lies in walking your party members home. It s a wholesome yet bittersweet
03:06farewell. It s one of the warmest feeling endings of all time.
03:23Halo Reach This was Bungie s grand farewell before leaving
03:36Microsoft to create the Destiny series and they certainly made sure to exit the Halo
03:40franchise with a memorable impact. The multiplayer was fantastic, the forge mode was groundbreaking
03:45and the single player campaign gave us one of the best endings of all time. Throughout
03:49the game you watch as comrades fall, each sacrificing themselves so you can complete
03:53the mission. If that s not enough to move you, the final mission has you trying to survive
03:57as long as possible before being overwhelmed, ultimately joining your fallen allies in a
04:01poignant, tear-jerking conclusion. Great endings aren t always happy resolutions, but they
04:06always feel right.
04:30Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare This was the Call of Duty game that set the
04:43standard not just for the series, but for FPS in general. When it was released fans
04:47went wild and for good reason. The game delivered some of the most innovative multiplayer experiences
04:53at the time while also providing a single player campaign that left a lasting impact.
04:57The single player was packed with unforgettable moments, but the ending stands out as one
05:01of my all time favourites. It features Captain Price tossing you a desert eagle in slow motion,
05:07setting you up to take down the enemies in style. It s an iconic moment that dropped
05:11jaws way back in 2007 and hopefully right now as I show you guys this clip.
05:35Grand Theft Auto V features multiple endings but the general consensus is that each one
05:39offers a satisfying conclusion for the characters. Most of the endings present a bittersweet
05:44farewell with Franklin able to betray one of his partners leading to their downfall,
05:48however the game truly stands out with the choices it offers for completing the story.
05:52For the best possible outcome you can team up with Trevor and Michael ensuring that all
05:55three make it out alive and intact, preserving the bond between the characters until the
06:00very end. The final scene offers a calm, soft smiled wrap up in one of the craziest plots
06:06ever written or played. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
06:36Is this a shock? While it s only 14 on our list, it s undeniable that Ocarina of Time
06:42boasts one of the most legendary endings in gaming history. The game only improves with
06:47time and both its conclusion and overall experience have remained timeless year after year which is
06:52wild because it truly doesn t excel visually but it s just so goddamn good. It s as though
06:56the game had a budget of a blockbuster movie with its epic scale and flawless execution.
07:01After defeating Ganon in his final form, Link is able to restore peace to Hyrule.
07:05Yay, good guys win. Zelda, who aided Link throughout their journey,
07:09returns to her royal duties and Link is given a farewell as he prepares to return to his childhood.
07:15Everything is as it was and our hearts feel warm.
07:31Uncharted 4
07:51While Uncharted 4 s concluding moments are largely brilliant, it s the epilogue that truly stands out.
07:56In this segment, players control Nate and Elena s daughter Cassie as she plays Crash Bandicoot
08:01and explores the souvenirs from her parents adventures. Eventually, she confronts them
08:05about the secrets they ve kept, leaving us to believe that they re about to share some
08:08important family revelations. My personal love for this ending stems not just from the story s
08:13quality but from how effectively the game makes you realise your deep connection to the characters
08:17and your desire to see them achieve a happy ending. While happy endings in games can sometimes feel
08:22forced or anticlimactic, Uncharted 4 s feels earned and it s as simple as it sounds, good.
08:31Spec Ops The Line
09:01Spec Ops The Line offers several impactful endings but the Surrender ending stands out as
09:17the most memorable. In this conclusion, you shoot Conrad s image in the mirror and choose to
09:22surrender your weapon to the approaching soldiers during the epilogue. One soldier asks Walker how
09:27he survived, to which Walker responds Who said I did? Some players dislike this ending, believing
09:32it implies that much of the games events were just a dream or a hallucination. However, this seems
09:37like an oversimplified interpretation. To some, the ending highlights the connection between the
09:42atrocities Walker committed and the mental trauma that caused him to hallucinate as a way of coping.
09:47Dark, deep, up for interpretation. You don t mind me asking,
09:52what was it like? How did you survive all this? Who said I did?
10:03Braid
10:18Throughout much of Braid, you re led to believe your character is a simple hero trying to rescue
10:22a princess from a monster. However, during the final level, you discover that the monster the
10:26princess is fleeing from is actually you. All along, you ve been chasing someone who either
10:31didn t want to be saved or perhaps should never have been pursued in the first place.
10:34Braid s ending is often interpreted as a commentary on abusive relationships, toxic masculinity,
10:40and how some men fail to recognize the monster within themselves. Braid s ending is a brilliant
10:44piece of interactive storytelling, transforming an already exceptional platformer into a deeply
10:49complex narrative. It s wonderfully beloved, and one of the most celebrated indie endings ever
10:54written. God of War
11:15The 2018 soft reboot of God of War took bold risks by altering the series formula,
11:24but it very much paid off, becoming one of the most acclaimed games of all time.
11:29A key factor in its success was its incredible story. Instead of embarking on a godslaying spree,
11:34Kratos journeys with his son Atreus to fulfill his late wife s final wish.
11:38The strong bond between Kratos and Atreus drives the story, culminating in a powerful
11:43and touching finale. After defeating Baldur, the two ascend to the highest peak in Jotunheim,
11:48where they scatter the ashes of Kratos s wife, providing a poignant and fitting conclusion
11:53to the game s driving goal. If you weren t crying at this point, you need to get help.
12:14Shadow of the Colossus
12:32Thank you Sony for remaking this game, it s simply too incredible to be overlooked.
12:36While there are plenty of video game endings that feel heart-wrenching, none compare to the
12:40conclusion of Shadow of the Colossus, which achieved this through incredibly limited dialogue
12:44and a fictional language for the voice acting. This is storytelling at its peak, and I m always
12:49taken aback by how it unfolds. The final moments of the game are utterly soul-crushing, where our
12:54main antagonist, Wanda, is confronted with the consequences of his actions. As the final Colossus
12:59is slayed, a mysterious force begins to corrupt Wanda, turning him into a monstrous being,
13:04a result of the dark magic used to revive Mono. He ultimately dies, or he s reincarnated in baby
13:09form depending on how you view the ending. Either way, it s an allegory for the cycle of life and
13:14death. Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
13:34Like many of Hideo Kojima s early works, Metal Gear Solid 3 s conclusion
13:42is brilliant. However, this particular ending stands out for the moment when players are
13:46compelled to shoot the boss. This already emotional scene is intensified by the game s
13:51brilliant score. While many of the Metal Gear Solid endings are similarly rich in political
13:55intrigue, compelling characters and cinematic brilliance, it s this deeply personal moment
14:00that sets MGS3 apart. The information you learn about the boss and her motives post-death
14:05wrap the story up in a way that gives the game a whole different perspective on replay.
14:14Batman Arkham City
14:44Arkham City s gripping finale reveals that Clayface has been masquerading as a healthy
14:54Joker all along, while the real Joker, gravely ill, has been searching for a Lazarus Pit.
14:59During a confrontation with Batman, Joker accidentally destroys the antidote he
15:03desperately needed. Batman, though willing to let him use it, realises it s too late. The Joker
15:08dies and Batman carries his lifeless body through Arkham City before vanishing into the night.
15:13While many stories explore Batman and the Joker s complicated bond, this ending uniquely delves
15:18into Batman s internal struggle, showing why he can t simply let the Joker die.
15:22The Walking Dead
15:33After a twisting, chaos-driven narrative, The Walking Dead Season 1 ends with Lee
15:55dying in Clementine s arms. While the player decides whether Clementine should end Lee s
16:00life before he turns, the damage is done regardless. Clementine loses her father figure,
16:05and Lee won t live to help her find peace or happiness. It s easy to craft an emotional
16:09ending, but The Walking Dead creates one that feels more earned than most. By the end,
16:13you ll likely cry, but you ll also feel left grappling with the exact same questions as Lee
16:17and Clementine. What could have been done differently, and what comes next? It s cruel
16:22that despite all the choices made, there s nothing that guarantees a happier ending for them. Or for
16:27you. Portal 2
16:34The final moments of Portal 2 see Chell launch a portal to the moon,
16:59taking the corrupt Wheatley with her. I have to wash over this moment because I
17:03have a word limit, but Jesus, it s a cool moment. In the ensuing struggle,
17:07GLaDOS regains control of the facility just in time to send Wheatley into space and rescue Chell.
17:12GLaDOS explains that they ve learned the value of humanity, and have decided to set Chell free.
17:16Chell is then sent on an elevator ride out of the facility, accompanied by a chorus of
17:20attack drones performing a symphony in her honour. She steps out into a vast wheat field,
17:25and as the screen glitches, she sees a battered companion cube emerge from the escape hatch.
17:30While the ending of Portal 2 is open to interpretation, with hints that things
17:33may not be as peaceful or real as they appear, it works as a feel-good conclusion that leaves
17:38you with a sense of haunting beauty. Something feels off, but something also feels right.
17:42Bioshock Infinite
18:03This key phrase has come to define Bioshock Infinite s ending. There s always a lighthouse,
18:08there s always a man, there s always a city. For every seemingly straightforward meta-based twist,
18:13the ending raises even more questions. What was the true purpose of your mission,
18:17and what version of the mission are you? Is there a more important version than yours
18:20in this weird multiverse world? While Bioshock is famous for its Would You Kindly twist,
18:26Bioshock Infinite presents a more intriguing version of this concept.
18:29It s borderline impossible to detail the ending, you simply have to experience it.
18:38Red Dead Redemption
19:08In Red Dead Redemption, after all you ve been through, you finally reunite with your family,
19:16and even take part in a few homestead missions that let you reconnect with your wife and son.
19:20This seemingly peaceful life is abruptly interrupted when Edgar Ross returns with his
19:25posse, determined to bring John Marston to justice. Despite a unique interactive standoff
19:30sequence where you can take down a few of Ross s men, survival isn t an option, and in a powerful
19:35epilogue, you control an older Jack Marston who tracks down Ross and kills him in revenge for his
19:40father. Although the events leading up to the ending, and even the ending itself in Red Dead
19:43Redemption 2 is also epic, this game set up the themes that made that ending possible,
19:48and feels like the conclusion to both games, as the second serves as a prequel.
20:05Silent Hill 2
20:20For this entry, I m looking at the In Water ending. Like many of Silent Hill 2 s endings,
20:24In Water explores the idea that protagonist James Sunderland s journey through Silent Hill
20:28represents guilt over his wife s death. What distinguishes In Water from the other endings
20:33is that it suggests James drowns himself to reunite with his wife and complete his quest
20:37for punishment and redemption. While one could make a case for any of Silent Hill 2 s endings
20:42being in the best, In Water feels like the most fitting choice. It aligns deeply with the game s
20:47major narrative themes, and is also the ending many players will naturally encounter first.
20:51The remake also allows this ending, and it also feels as significant.
21:16The Last of Us
21:21By the end of The Last of Us, Joel and Ellie have endured unimaginable horrors on their
21:32journey to the Firefly Hospital, where a potential cure for the infection that caused the apocalypse
21:37may be found. Joel soon discovers that the Fireflies believe the only way to create the cure
21:41is by killing Ellie. Unable to bear the thought of losing her, Joel kills the Firefly doctors,
21:46rescues Ellie and escapes the hospital. As they head back into the world, Ellie asks Joel to swear
21:52there was no other way to use her to find a cure. Joel swears, and Ellie quietly responds,
21:56okay. Man. Boy. Jesus. This ending accompanied by the soundtrack leaves the player with an
22:04unbelievable cocktail of emotions. Happiness, regret, satisfaction, conflict, anger,
22:09sadness, any and all emotions you could possibly feel, and hope is not one of them.
