00:00A great moment for Mark Scaife, now something great you can get your hands on, the V8 Supercar's
00:05official 1998 TV Guide. It goes for about six bucks and you can pick it up from your
00:09local newsagent or shell shop. It's full of all the info about the teams and the drivers
00:14and of course all of the action. And speaking of action, we're getting ready for race two
00:18here at Phillip Island. Let's have a look at the grid and of course this is the way
00:21they finished from the first race. Mark Scaife with that valuable, valuable win from Craig
00:26Lowndes, Russell Ingle in for third and Glenn Seaton fourth. Out of row two, Jason Bright
00:31and John Bow, the two Fords, Larry Perkins and Jason Barguana out of eighth position.
00:36We go back to nine, Tony Longhurst was absolutely wrapped with that run and he said, wait till
00:40the next one when I have a rear bumper on, they'll know all about that I'm going well
00:44today. Faulkner, Johnson and Larcombe. Alan Jones of the Komatsu Ford, Paul Romano the
00:50Queensland Privateer, Mark Poole from South Australia and Thomas Mazera, top place Privateer,
00:56he starts out of 16. He's doing well isn't he? Back to the first of the wins cars, Darren
01:00Pate from Anthony Tratt who got caught up in that hassle with Steve Ellery, Darren Hossack
01:06and the young guy Garth Tander who incidentally was the car who stalled on the grid. Record
01:10field of V8s here this weekend, Ryan McLeod in the OAMS Insurance Falcon, Mal Rose alongside
01:15on the Commodore 23, Steve Reid taking over from Trevor Ashby in the Landsbau car and
01:19Rod Nash in the ex-Wayne Gardner Racing Commodore, he's out of 24. Darcy Russell in the Castrol
01:24Cougars entry, Melinda Price 25 and 26, Mike Imrie and Paul Wheel. Back toward the rear
01:32of the field now, Wayne Russell in the steel Commodore, Simon Mazzidis, 31, Steve Ellery
01:38in the Young Lions Commodore, he's having a tough day but he got taken out in that first
01:41race, 32, Danny Osborne had a big fire in the Coliscan Ford. Kevin Heffernan and Nick
01:47Johnson starting from 34th position, unfortunately if you miss the first race, Tony Longhurst
01:52got his rear bumper knocked off from Mark Larcombe and that flew up and smashed into
01:57Nick Johnson's windscreen. He is back on the grid and ready to go, we are set to go, there's
02:01the man of the moment from race 1, Mark Scaife in good form at the moment, will he get another
02:06dynamite start? Away we go, it's Lowndes who's blown away on the start, he got away to a
02:11terrific start, Scaife will slip into second spot, they all get away cleanly this time
02:15around, now this is where Scaife's got the inside line, he had it in the first race but
02:19he doesn't have it this time, Lowndes will take him through. Well, critical to get the
02:23starts right in this sort of racing, it's so close, cars separated by hundredths of
02:27a second, Craig Lowndes just got a metal launch off the road against Greg Murphy and he's
02:31so critical this level of competition. Well we know how competitive it is out there and
02:35obviously Mark Scaife with the jump in the first one and held it to the finish, Lowndes
02:40he was obviously very, very keen to get a good start in this one, he has done, Russell
02:43Ingle in third, Glenn Seaton and John Bauer moved up a spot to spot. Well, Lowndes hasn't
02:48wasted any time in clearing out Scaife, traffic's got a little bit of a bumper there, we go
02:53back to Mark Wymer who's ahead of Wilmhurst and we pick up Larry Fergus ahead of Faulkner,
02:57Stephen Johnson to there, one of them running wide, and look at this, Ingle is all over
03:01the back of Scaife already. Yeah, he's really on the attack, I spoke to Ingle after race
03:06one, he said maybe he just can't do anything to the car, I mean it's just not carrying
03:10enough speed. Look at this, Craig Lowndes special, he's just blasting away, look at
03:14him, first lap making a big gap from the guys in second and third. Well Lowndes really is
03:19a specialist isn't he, cold tyres, straight out of the box, two laps and he builds up
03:23his cushion, he did it all the way through 1996 with what was by far a far superior package,
03:28now the HRT crew are much closer to the rest of the field but he's still pulling the same
03:31stunt. Well, you know the advantage with this is that, you know, he's got, he can get away,
03:35get a bit of a break and then back it off, look after the tyres, look at Russell, he's
03:38given Scaife a real hard time. Well he said he couldn't get any more speed out of the
03:42car but it's looking pretty quick in these opening laps, he tucks up behind the Mobile
03:46One Commodore of Mark Scaife, they're shifting up to about sixth gear here, building up to
03:50275km, Russell Ingle, look for a way through, he's right on the back of the Mobile Commodore,
03:54then it's Seaton, Gallery, there's the field, sort of himself out on his first ending lap.
04:00He was there. This is classic Russell stuff. In the first one and now he's right there
04:04again, Russell Ingle, in-car camera, the Synchro in-car camera, he is riding all over the back
04:10of Scaife. Now Seaton's back in fourth, Bauer, then we pick up Bright, Barguana, watch this
04:16as we go into Honda. After getting that broken windscreen fixed, Dick Johnson is on a charge,
04:21he's up to 20th position already after one lap. Here's where the action is though, Ingle
04:25just gets a little lock break on the inside as the weight comes off that tyre, but he's
04:29really aggressive here, right up behind Mark Scaife, and look at Lowndes, he did it, 1.7
04:34seconds he opened up on his team out in that first lap, phenomenal stuff.
04:37He goes to show how good Craig Lowndes' car was in that first race, and I think he was
04:41just being held up a little bit, and he's got the advantage this time, which he really needs.
04:45Certainly streaking away, big time, here's Russell Ingle, hard at work in the Castrol
04:49Commodore, sitting third at the moment, and trying desperately to find a way past Mark
04:53Scaife so he can get out there and attack and chase down Craig Lowndes.
04:57You watch Russell, he'll be diving anywhere he can, looking for a way past going into
05:01MG, look at how close he is behind the back of that HRT Commodore.
05:04Tell you who else is looking for a way through is Jason Wright in the Pertec Ford, Bow is
05:07in there behind Seton, they're just as close as these two guys.
05:11Back, the battle for 4th and 5th, we ride now with John Bow.
05:15And look at how quick Lowndes was running out in that fresh air with no one around him,
05:19a 1.41, one standing start, he'll be even quicker this time around, that's a much faster
05:23time than it was in the opening heat, where 1.35, 1.8, as Lowndes splashes across the
05:29line, he's opened it up, 2.3 seconds over Scaife, he is slaughtering him.
05:33Already such a commanding lead, this is the view from John Bow's Shell Helix Ford, down
05:39into the Southern Loop.
05:41JB was saying he had a bit of an understeer in that first, it's really not working too
05:45well, but the car seems to be working pretty good now, is Jason Wright.
05:49Wow, I think he gave a touch too, he's been trying to get past for the last couple of
05:53laps, he always goes the outside run on Honda, watch him here, he's climbing all over the
05:57back, and Barguana's there as well, so too, Barguana, straight in behind JB, and then
06:03hung, oh Brian, Brian, look at that, this is going to be tight.
06:07Oh, got that, the two Alfa Romeos from Formula 4, the three JBs in a row, John Bow, Jason
06:13Barguana and Jason Wright.
06:15Oh, he's right up the edge of it, if you want a hand, he's giving him a hand, alright.
06:21I'll give you a little bit more pace out of Siberia, mate, just to let you all hear, and
06:25Jason Wright in the Pertec Falcon, you can see how busy Barguana is, he's filling plenty
06:29of people, look at that traffic jam behind him.
06:31That was just a classic move by Jason Barguana, Jason Wright forced to the outside, and just
06:35swatted straight up the inside.
06:37Barguana's proving to be a specialist at that moment.
06:39Oh, look at Longhurst on the inside, and Larry Perkins as well.
06:41Well, I think he was giving him a bit of a hand there too.
06:43You can't get any closer than this, and it's a traffic jam.
06:47I think there's about eight blokes who want to give each other a hand.
06:49Longhurst was very happy with his run in the first one, he said it was a shame about the
06:53bumper, but he's running well.
06:55Yeah, that's good.
06:57So the order, Lowndes, he's opened it up 2.3 and probably bigger this time, Schaefer and
06:59Ingle cutting themselves up, Singh, Bow, Wright, Barguana, Longhurst, Perkins, a big power
07:03train, Faulkner back in 10th position.
07:053.6 seconds.
07:07He's sick in the lap.
07:09He's braining him.
07:11Everyone else is running in the 36.
07:13A quick one from Seton, a 35.99.
07:15McLennan's not getting the speed out of that Ford Credit Falcon that he wants.
07:17They're struggling to find a good balance on the car, even though it was very quick
07:19here on Wednesday.
07:21It's not going to be working well today.
07:231.3 seconds fast in that lap.
07:25I mean, that's a hell of a lot.
07:27Bow was rather...
07:29Wright was frustrated trying to get past Bow.
07:31He must be extra frustrated now that Barguana has squeezed through.
07:33Exactly the same.
07:35Look at Ingle.
07:37Through Honda Corner.
07:39Helping Mark Schaefer out of there.
07:41Well, they call him the enforcer.
07:43He's trying to put the stamp on Holden Racing Team here today.
07:45He couldn't get closer than that.
07:47Right up behind the Mobile One Commodore.
07:49Schaefer sitting for a photo on board camera.
07:51Takes you on board with Russell Ingle, the winner of Lakeside.
07:53And he's looking very hot at Phillip Island this afternoon.
07:55Well, this is the thing.
07:57He hasn't had to do too much enforcing lately, has he?
07:59Because he's been winning quite comfortably.
08:01Now we see him hard at work.
08:03I think this might be a split.
08:06I think this might be a spot he's going to look
08:08down into MG Corner in the Hampton here.
08:10Russell's really good under brakes, as we know.
08:12So keep an eye on that one.
08:14Schaefer's saying after Race 1
08:16they changed the setup on the car from yesterday to today.
08:18Even though the car's a lot quicker in the warm-up.
08:20And they've dialled the understeer out of the car.
08:22Now it's translated to oversteer in race condition.
08:24He's having a lot of trouble with the rear tyres.
08:26It doesn't look good, actually.
08:28The car really doesn't look very settled at all.
08:30Oh, Russell.
08:32Further back in the pack.
08:34Bau, 5th, Barguana, Bright.
08:36Longhurst still ahead of Perkins
08:38and Walker rounding out the top ten.
08:40So the attack continues for Russell Ingle.
08:42Look at the gap. 3.3 seconds.
08:44It's stabilised now between Lowndes and Schaefer.
08:46Ingle right up the bumper of Schaefer.
08:48Seaton's sitting back there in 4th position.
08:50He's got Bau, Barguana, Bright behind him.
08:52Now let's watch the back.
08:54Attack, Seaton and Bau.
08:56Are they crawling up, creeping up on these two guys?
08:58It looks like it.
09:00It looks like also Lowndes has just tried
09:02to cool it off a little bit.
09:04Dropped a seat at that lap.
09:06He's got a bit of a lead.
09:08He won't be silly.
09:10Schaefer down the inside.
09:12Russell!
09:14Another little tap.
09:16That was a love one.
09:18I don't think it would have felt like a little one.
09:20I'll tell you what, Mark.
09:22Schaefer looked like he worked extra hard
09:24in that first one.
09:26I'll tell you what, he's working twice as hard now
09:28trying to fend off Russell Ingle.
09:30He's starting to catch up too.
09:32Schaefer's having a few problems out there.
09:34Good bunch of more further back there
09:36with Barguana, Bright, Longhurst and Perkins.
09:38Well, no worry.
09:40The Dunlop runners are going to have a tyre
09:42that was a little bit too hard
09:44for Phillip Island in cool conditions
09:46but seems to be working pretty well here this afternoon.
09:48We've seen Russell come through
09:50in the second and third races of most meetings
09:52and show what he's really got.
09:54So it may be working this way
09:56for the Dunlop this weekend as well.
09:58Jason Bright meanwhile.
10:00Perkins sizing up Longhurst.
10:02The two Castrol cars, different manufacturers
10:04Ford and Holden.
10:06Just don't forget too
10:08that Ford and Holden, the old sparring partners
10:10they came into this round
10:12at 95 Australian Touring Car Championship
10:14wins a piece.
10:16So this is where it really comes down to the crunch.
10:18One of these two manufacturers is going to go ahead
10:20on the point score.
10:22All the boys are out there fighting for their brands.
10:24Look at this great battle now.
10:26This is Mark Larkham in the Martin 10 Ford.
10:30A little bit further back in this top 10
10:32and Engle continues to apply the thumbscrews
10:34to Mark Scape.
10:36Holding him out very effectively with the car
10:38looks like it may be struggling
10:40for a little bit of rear end grip.
10:42As much as we talk about Engle throwing everything at Scape
10:44Scape's handling it
10:46and going on with it.
10:48This is an interesting threesome here.
10:50Marguana's been able to just get out of all
10:52Menace Longhurst looks on the inside of Bright.
10:54Oh no!
10:56Giving him a touchdown!
10:58I think Bright must have had a bit of a problem there
11:00because he lost a lot of ground on Marguana.
11:02Faulkner's looking to get him involved.
11:04Oh no!
11:06Longhurst saying
11:08he wanted to come into V8 supercars
11:10son this is what it's all about.
11:12Now he's got Larry Perkins on the inside
11:14he took advantage of that slow exit out of Siberia
11:16three of them climbing all over each other
11:18John Faulkner now he wants a slice of the action.
11:20Mark Larkham's coming in too
11:22Marguana's up there and Alan Jones
11:24is just at the back of this pack
11:26Phenomenal stuff.
11:28This is the closest race we have seen in some time
11:30Look at Longhurst in the mirror
11:32He's looking where Larry was
11:34He kept a defensive inside line
11:36Faulkner in the better electric
11:38So too is Larkham
11:40Longhurst is going to need another rear bumper
11:42Larry's giving a bit of a serve up there
11:44You can see a bit of battle damage on the front of Jason Bright
11:46That was from that run up the back
11:48I think it might have been
11:50Look at the gap that he's lost to Jason over
11:52Just in that little tussle that those guys have been having
11:54He's really got a way
11:56Lap 7 of 12
11:58A little over half way
12:00Holding the gap at 4 seconds now
12:02Very comfortable
12:04He's put in another quick one too
12:06136.28 just under 4 seconds
12:08So Clowns controlling this race
12:10from the front as we saw so much
12:12in 1996
12:14and certainly glimpses of that throughout this year
12:16He's home in nose the longest things remain
12:18As is
12:20This group here is far from over
12:22Fantastic action here at Phillip Island
12:24More right after this
12:30Welcome back to Phillip Island
12:32Here he is, Craig Clowns
12:3423 year old who is just
12:36cruising away
12:38The gap last time round was almost up to 4 seconds
12:40We'll see how it is this time
12:42He got the jump
12:44He went away from his team mate Mark Scaife
12:46And hasn't looked back
12:48And is heading for his second race win
12:50In terms of the Shell Australian Touring Car Championship
12:52Here at Phillip Island
12:54We almost sort of forgot about Craig at Lakeside
12:56And he did a great job finishing 4th
12:58The car was not good
13:00And now he's back on top
13:02The car's been a lot better this weekend
13:04It was a great start, you can see what he's done
13:06He's pulled out that gap and now holding it just nicely
13:08At Lakeside everyone was saying
13:10Oh now it's what a disastrous day
13:12He had a 6th, a 4th and a 4th
13:14It wasn't too bad
13:16It was championship winning stuff
13:18Because all he did was concentrate on getting the points
13:20And he didn't crash the car
13:22He walked away with plenty of points
13:24And in fact increased his championship lead
13:26Well Scaife's really responded to this attack
13:28He was all over it a few laps ago
13:30He's just opened up a little bit of a gap
13:32Got 5 laps remaining in this heat 2
13:34Of round 4
13:36Of the Shell Australian Touring Car Championship
13:38Just this gap
13:40Like a concertina
13:43It's barely time for turn of sitcom
13:45Onboard camera shows you the action
13:47As Eagle tries to close the gap for Mark Scaife
13:49He's got Clint Singh behind him
13:51And
13:53Closing all the time
13:55You can see how wide Mark went into Siberia
13:57That time
13:59He's just trying to get the car right
14:01He's getting a really good line out
14:03But going obviously very slow
14:05Which allows Russell to catch up on the line that he's taking
14:07Mark's trying to drive around the problems
14:09That he's got
14:11He's doing a fantastic job really
14:13Considering I think he has got a few problems
14:15Keeping it nice and steady
14:17Is Clint Singh the reigning Australian Touring Car Champ
14:19In 4th, that's where he finished in race 1
14:21Doesn't appear to be able
14:23To bridge that gap to Russell Ingeletti
14:25So it's Holden's 1, 2 and 3
14:27This is the battle
14:29Of the privateers though
14:31Thomas Mazera at 17th outright
14:33He is leading the way from Steve Reid
14:35And Paul Wheel
14:37That's good to see the 18 year old youngster up there
14:39Getting performance from the privateers
14:41They're right at the back of the level 1 pack
14:43When you think of the Yokohama control tyre
14:45Some of the experienced drivers say
14:47It's probably costing them
14:49Six tenths to a second
14:51In terms of tyre performance
14:53So to be nipping at the back of the level 1 field is really good
14:55This is the helmet
14:57Camera mounted on the left hand side of Clint Singh's helmet
14:59Bridgestone
15:01We call it helmet cam
15:03Helmet cam
15:09He's getting a final view of the action up front
15:11That's for sure
15:13You'd be seeing every little move and twitch there
15:15Of Luke's escape at Ingeletti
15:17As they fight for 2nd position
15:19Craig Lowndes
15:213.1 seconds
15:23The gap over his team mates
15:25And he's got the lead
15:27And he's got the lead
15:29And he's got the lead
15:31And he's got the lead
15:33And he's got the lead
15:35And he's got the lead
15:373.1 seconds
15:39The gap over his team mates
15:41And there is the camera unit
15:43If you didn't see it
15:45A little lipstick camera
15:47Stuck to the side of Clint's helmet
15:49So you can see what you're seeing out of the front
15:51Is exactly on Clint's eyeline
15:53Clint will be a little bit disappointed
15:55I'd say with the performance so far
15:57Obviously after his qualifying effort
15:59And then how much speed the car had on Saturday
16:01Yesterday, early in the day
16:03You know, he's probably not where he wants to be
16:05Or expected to be
16:07This is a brand new car
16:09That they tested here at Phillip Island last Wednesday
16:11They asked him how much different it is
16:13To his old one
16:15He's, well, not a great deal I guess
16:17If you look in terms of the time
16:19But a new car always feels much better, doesn't it
16:21Mark Scaife and Russell Ingle
16:23Still battling it out for 2nd and 3rd
16:25Ingle hasn't been able to make any impression
16:27On Scaife
16:29Three laps remaining
16:31All the time that he has
16:33John Bower, the 18 shell helix Ford
16:35Well placed in 5th
16:37But the battle goes on
16:39And Bright has caught up a huge amount of ground
16:41There's the triple F telemetry, that is on Ford Bower's car
16:43But just in behind him
16:45Have a look top of screen, there it is
16:47The double A covers Commodore and the Pertec Ford
16:49The two youngsters at it again
16:51Look at this
16:53Right up the inside
16:55You fixed me up earlier
16:57Payback time
16:59I think that's called the short back and sides
17:01And Barguana has lost another spot
17:03To boot
17:05Well Jason Bright, boy, once he got a sniff of that
17:07He was right in and passed
17:09Before Jason Barguana knew what hit him
17:11And he's found himself
17:13He's lost another position to Longo
17:15So there is Bright, a little bit of bavel damage
17:17On the front of the Pertec Falcon
17:19There's been plenty of muscling and elbowing
17:21I gotta dig too
17:23Which shows how close and competitive the racing is amongst the pack
17:25There's barely a 100th of a second between the cars
17:27A fair bit of damage on the front there, isn't there
17:29I was talking in the first race about how Bright
17:31Is suffering from bad back pain
17:33It's got to the stage where it's hurting him
17:35To even take a deep breath
17:37And he doesn't know how it happened
17:39He just woke up with it this morning
17:41So he's battling on under those circumstances
17:43He's doing exceptionally well
17:45This track being so physical also
17:47To hang on to one of these V8s around here
17:49Is exceptionally hard
17:51And he's in pain
17:53Just breathing
17:55I can imagine how much pain he's in driving that car right now
17:57Tucked in behind
17:59Let's see if Barguana can make any impression
18:01Time is running out though
18:03So Lowndes, 3.2 seconds
18:05He's maintained that gap throughout race distance
18:07Scaife still in second position, Ingle in third
18:09Seeker back in fourth, Bowen fifth
18:11Bright, you see on screen now
18:13He's got Longhurst up behind him, Barguana back to eighth
18:15Perkins in ninth, second of the Castrol Commodores
18:17And John Portman, the better electrical car
18:19He rounds out the top ten
18:21Barguana eighth, that's where he finished in the first race
18:23Oh, look how close Ingle was coming through
18:25Through Honda Loop that time
18:27There he is, our Bridgestone driver
18:29Profile, Jason Bright, 25 years of age
18:31From Queensland
18:33First race back in 1988
18:35A rookie in V8s this year, but what an impressive start
18:37Very fast throughout qualifying
18:39Of the four tracks we've visited so far
18:41Best grid position, third
18:43And that's an outstanding effort for the rookie
18:45Stone Brothers Racing
18:47Really making a big impact in 1998
18:49For those who don't know
18:51We were talking about the two young guys before Bright
18:53Bright and Barguana
18:55They're old sparring partners from a category called Formula Holden
18:57Where they finished one and two
18:59In the championship last year in Bright's way
19:01And Formula Ford before that
19:03And they opened a lot of eyes
19:05In terms of this category
19:07Bright stepped into the car with Alan Jones last year
19:09And finished third at the Tickford 500
19:11At Sandown, gained a lot of credibility
19:13Now he's mixing it with the big boys
19:15So Larry Perkins, got John Portman right behind him
19:17Riding this field
19:19Right down to a pop
19:21He just did it so easy
19:23I guess when you look at his first run on cold tyres
19:25That first 4.4km, so critical
19:27He just did it so easy
19:29I guess when you look at his first run on cold tyres
19:31That first 4.4km, so critical
19:33Oh, extremely critical
19:35And you've got to be very careful too
19:37Because you've got the one warm-up left to get some temperature
19:39Into these tyres
19:41And then you've got to sprint off the line
19:43And that was a good effort
19:45At the back of that group guys
19:47Someone who has driven very sensibly today
19:49In 12th position maybe
19:51Finished, I think, in that same position
19:53Further back, finished 14th in the first one
19:55He's up there again
19:57On-board shot from Sid Crone-Frodo
19:59Mark Scapetrous, wide angle, might have an inside shot
20:01Here, no, brings it across
20:03Do you see the eyes on him there?
20:05Here's an opportunity, here's a hole, there's a hole, get in it
20:07So we're on our way home
20:09Final lap, this is a corner they call Siberia
20:11So we're on our way home
20:13Inglis has been trying, trying, trying
20:15A whole 11.5 laps
20:18He hasn't been able to get past Mark Scapetrous
20:20So it looks pretty sure to be another HRT1-2
20:22I've got to say
20:24This is an outstanding performance for Dunlop
20:26They don't have a factory team that tests down here
20:28It's the first time the company
20:30Has actually had a full tyre development programme
20:32Look at that
20:34He's going to have a look down the inside
20:36A real dive down the inside
20:38But not close enough
20:40I was going to say
20:42It's the first time Dunlop's had a proper tyre development programme
20:44Since the Kobe earthquake brought the factory down
20:46In 1995
20:48And you can really see the consistency
20:50Starting to come back into their teams
20:52Here we go, onto the main straight
20:54And it is Craig Lowndes
20:56Who will pick up his second win here at Phillip Island
20:58His first for today
21:00And his team mate Mark Scapetrous will get in for second
21:02Quite comfortably in fact
21:04Over Castrol's Russell Ingle
21:06So a great run again
21:08For HRT1-2
21:10However this time in the reverse order
21:16On a hot summer's day
21:18In a V8 supercar
21:20The inside temperature can be anything
21:22Up to 65 degrees centigrade
21:24A number of driver comforts
21:26Have been incorporated in these vehicles
21:28One which being
21:30What we call a cool suit
21:32Which is a vest that the driver wears
21:34With cool water running through it
21:36From an esky which is in the trunk of the car
21:38One of the other features on the Shell Helix Falcon
21:40Is also the mirror
21:42That actually has an air duct
21:44Through a tube
21:46Which is directed right at the driver's face
21:48Inside the car
21:50On the floor
21:52Is an insulated pad
21:54To protect the driver's feet from the temperatures
21:56Coming from the exhaust under the floor
21:58Which can actually give you blisters on the feet
22:00These features are just
22:02Some of the things that help a driver
22:04Win at Australian Touring Car Champions
22:10Welcome back to Phillip Island
22:12Day 2 of round 4 of the Shell Australian Touring Car Championship
22:14With our winner Craig Lowndes
22:16Congratulations mate for that first lap
22:18I think you opened 2 seconds on the field, phenomenal
22:20Thanks Mark
22:22The car is I guess a transition from a cold tyre
22:24To a hot or a raised temperature tyre
22:26The transition is very very good
22:28So the whole car is moving around
22:30Not a front or a back
22:32And I guess that's where I can get that
22:34I guess 1 or 2 seconds at the start
22:36I'm pushing very hard to get that gap
22:38So hopefully I can look after the tyres during the race
22:40Are you surprised you were able to open up
22:42That much of a gap on your team mate Mark's go?
22:44I was, after the first race Mark and I were very very even
22:46For the first probably 4 or 5 laps
22:48And then I guess my car was a little bit kinder to the tyres
22:50And I guess Mark's
22:52Because Mark was just starting to move around a little bit
22:54Although we couldn't pass him
22:56But that race I pushed very very hard to get that gap
22:58So I could hang on and win the race
23:00And have a comfortable gap and look after the tyres
23:02That's the most important thing at the moment
23:04We've got 2 sets of tyres and 3 races
23:06So we've got to look after our tyres
23:08Thanks for watching!
