00:00In Venezuela, the head of the Venezuela Nuestra campaign, Coman Jorge Rodriguez, denounced
00:13the plans of the right-wing to disregard the result of the forthcoming elections on 28
00:18July.
00:21In the United States, another Democrat legislator asked Joe Biden to leave the country's presidential
00:27race.
00:32And in the Netherlands, the International Court of Justice has ruled by 14 votes to
00:36one that Israel must immediately cease all new settlement activities and evacuate all
00:41settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories.
00:47Hello, welcome to From the South, from the headquarters of Telesur English in Havana,
00:55Cuba.
00:56I'm Pablo Micheliche.
00:57We begin with the news.
01:10We go live now to Caracas to our special envoy, Yunus Zonis.
01:15Yunus, what is the latest information now ahead of the July 28th presidential election
01:21after the recent declarations by the head of the Venezuela Nuestra campaign, Coman Jorge
01:25Rodriguez?
01:26Hello.
01:27Good day from Caracas, Venezuela.
01:36Just minutes ago, Jorge Rodriguez finished his press conference.
01:40Jorge Rodriguez is general coordinator of the campaign Our Venezuela that supports
01:46the candidacy of Nicolas Maduro, the current president.
01:51Jorge Rodriguez responded to another act that occurred yesterday, on Thursday.
01:59On Thursday, Biagio Pilieri, the spokesperson of the Democratic Unitary Platform, has announced
02:08in a press conference that his movement, which is the extreme right-wing oppositional movement,
02:15will only count those ballot results that they achieve on election day.
02:21They will gather their results from each of the 15,000 voting centers and abide only by
02:28that count.
02:29Thus, Pilieri implicitly has stated that they will not abide by what the National Election
02:37Council, which is the official institution responsible for the elections, will announce.
02:42Now, to this statement, Jorge Rodriguez responded in his press conference.
02:47He compared this behavior with a football match where one of the teams brings its own
02:53referee to the game and only abides by the ruling of its own referee.
02:58That is, only when its own referee says it's a penalty, then they play a penalty.
03:04But Rodriguez said this behavior of not abiding by institutional framework of Venezuela and
03:10its legislative framework is part of a bigger plan.
03:14And he started mentioning that part of the opposition has already abandoned campaigning
03:20for the elections.
03:21They are not even campaigning, they are not seeking votes because they don't have the
03:25votes and instead they have bots, he said, referring to artificial intelligence-led figures
03:33in social media and the internet.
03:37The plan of the opposition, what is it, according to Jorge Rodriguez?
03:41They want to first promote more the polls that are being published by media and especially,
03:49he named here the CNN Spanish media, but also other media, communications media like Bloomberg
03:57and European companies and institutions.
04:01He said they are publishing news about polls which have been paid by oppositional figures
04:08and which show the oppositional figures in contradiction to the reality far ahead.
04:15And then he said they will continue by not recognizing the statement, the announcement
04:22of the National Election Council and promote instead their own numbers to the public.
04:31And then, he said, they will call foreign governments to not recognize the results which
04:38are published here in Venezuela by the official institution responsible for the elections
04:44and thus not recognize the winner which, according to Jorge Rodriguez, will clearly be Maduro.
04:51So this is a process which, according to Jorge Rodriguez, is a kind of repeat of what happened
04:57with Juan Guaido.
04:58He actually said, this is a Guaido dos, Guaido zero dos version, a repeat of what had happened
05:08there with the opposition already knowing that they are going to lose the election,
05:13they are abandoning campaign and they are not abiding the rules of the institutional
05:19framework.
05:20Here it is worth remembering that two major extreme right-wing oppositional candidates
05:25have not signed an agreement some weeks ago which was signed by all other oppositional
05:32candidates and President Maduro.
05:36They rejected the signature to recognize the announcement of the National Election Board.
05:44But Jorge Rodriguez is self-confident.
05:47He said, first, we will win and they know, referring to the opposition, they know we
05:53will win.
05:54That is why they abide by this plan.
05:57And he said, on July 28, we will come out in crowds and we will celebrate our victory
06:03and we will celebrate and defend this victory with our lives if necessary, said the chief
06:10campaign, the chief coordinator of our Venezuela campaign supporting Nicolás Maduro.
06:16So he presented himself quite self-confident.
06:20He, to repeat it once, he says that the opposition has already partly abandoned campaigning and
06:26is abiding by other measures which are illegitimate, which are outside of the institutional framework.
06:33And he presented himself still confident of winning the elections and of defending the
06:39victory achieved on July 28.
06:42Thank you, Yunus, for this updated information regarding the electoral process in Venezuela.
06:52We will contact you again for this and other news regarding the elections before the July
06:5828 electoral process.
07:01That was Yunus Soner.
07:02We continue on other news.
07:04The agenda of the Venezuelan presidential candidates intensified a few days ahead of
07:08the general elections in the country, scheduled for next July 28.
07:12Our special envoy, also Yunus Soner, with the report.
07:15Pinto, roughly to be translated as spotted rooster.
07:20This is the icon of Nicolás Maduro's campaign.
07:22The candidate and head of state is in Petare, one of Caracas' favelas that is one of the
07:27biggest in Latin America, founded 403 years ago.
07:31He promises to finance one million new small businesses for families and the humblest.
07:37The candidate once again states that the extreme right is trying to obscure the electoral
07:41process using the governments of the United States, Argentina and Ecuador.
07:46They are looking for no elections, a hecatomb to shout for the suspension of the elections.
07:59I know the plans.
08:02Nerves of steel, calm and sanity.
08:07And rain or shine, on July 28 there will be elections in Venezuela.
08:13Nobody is going to sabotage them.
08:21And also in Petare one of the nine opposition candidates, in a meeting with some of his
08:26followers preparing for today's events.
08:33Thank you very much for interviewing me.
08:36I want to be president because I am sure that I can make Venezuela the best homeland in
08:39the world, with an economy with social inclusion that will make it possible for those who have
08:43less to live much better.
08:51Operation Gallup begins with the swearing in of more than 5,000 people belonging to
08:56the Venezuela First Party.
08:58In these days they will mobilize in the communities campaigning in favor of their candidate Jose
09:03Brito.
09:04Brito denied rumors about a possible resignation from his presidential candidacy.
09:14We will not allow that four rich people of this country go and set fire to this country,
09:18to confront us with our siblings, because whoever here is a Chavista or an opponent,
09:23above all of that, we are all from Caracas, we are all Venezuelans.
09:29The evangelical pastor Javier Bertucci from the Party of Change is in Zulia, the region
09:35with the most voters in the country.
09:37He affirms to continue in the race for the presidency.
09:43Because I am stronger, you decline, and you also decline, that is not democracy, democracy
09:47is everyone participates and the people choose one of the options, and in that sense, no,
09:51I am not going to decline.
09:55And the law indicates that up to 10 days before the start of the voting, any party may substitute
10:00or modify its nomination.
10:02If there is no time to change the photo on the ballot sheet, the votes will be credited
10:07to the substitute candidate.
10:10We change topic.
10:11Colombian authorities captured 52 people Thursday following the murders of social leaders and
10:15peace signatures.
10:17Among those arrested were 14 members of the Central General Staff, the main dissidents
10:22of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, and 13 members of the Clan del Golfo criminal
10:26gang, according to police sources.
10:29Operation Themis, led by the Colombian military forces, issued arrest warrants for members
10:33of the country's main armed groups, considered to be the alleged perpetrators and participants
10:38in a total of 57 attacks against community leaders.
10:47The Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations of the Peruvian Congress decided to declare
10:52as admissible the constitutional complaint against President Dina Boluarte, in the case
10:56known as Rolex, for the alleged crime of improper passive bribery.
11:01The accusation was made last month by the Interim National Prosecutor Juan Carlos Villena
11:06and concludes the governor of Ayacucho, Wilfredo Oscarina.
11:10The incident occurred after the president and her possession of a total of around 15
11:15Rolex watches, which caused tensions in Peruvian politics and, as a result, two Peruvian ministers
11:21resigned, and authorities raided Boluarte's residency, after starting a motion in Congress
11:27that seeks the president's dismissal.
11:29The decision to approve the complaint against Boluarte was supported by 17 votes in favor
11:33and two against.
11:40Social organizations in Argentina reported on Thursday the failure of negotiations of
11:45the Minimum Vital and Mobile Wage Council and the state, while the state will establish
11:50by decree the wage allocation.
11:53The current value is $234,000 and employers declared that they will only raise it to $234,000
12:02in October, with a staggered increase.
12:05The Autonomous Workers' Center of Argentina denounced the complicity of the government
12:09with the big economic groups.
12:11For its part, the General Confederation of Labor described the business sector offered
12:15as shameful.
12:16In a statement, they declared they thought to reach an agreement with the business sector
12:20in order to recompose this wage reference, but instead they found an acceptable proposal.

12:41Welcome back to From the South.
13:00On the other hand, in the United States, on Thursday another Democrat legislator asked
13:05Joe Biden to leave the country's presidential race.
13:08In this regard, Montana State Senator Jon Tester became the second to call on Biden
13:13to drop out just over a week after Vermont State Senator Peter Welch did so.
13:19Meanwhile, these calls bring to 25 the number of Democratic congressmen who have publicly
13:24called on Biden to step out of the race because of their concerns about Biden's ability to
13:29defeat Donald Trump in November and the 81-year-old Democratic incumbent's mental and physical
13:36sickness.
13:45We keep on United States.
13:46On Thursday, during the last day of the Republican National Convention, Donald Trump accepted
13:50his nomination as candidate for the presidency of the United States.
13:55In his first speech after the July 13 attack, the former U.S. president severely criticized
14:01the actions of the current administration headed by President Joe Biden, assuring that
14:05in case he wins the election next November, he will put an end to the conflict between
14:09Russia and Ukraine.
14:11In the meantime, during the rally held in the state of Wisconsin, the presidential candidate
14:15also declared that he will close the border with Mexico and will finish building the border
14:21wall to prevent the entry of migrants.
14:26I am running to be president for all of America, not half of America, because there is no victory
14:35in winning for half of America.
14:41So tonight, with faith and devotion, I proudly accept your nomination for president of the
14:49United States.
14:50Thank you.
14:51I will end the illegal immigration crisis by closing our border and finishing the wall,
14:58most of which I've already been.
15:14On Thursday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center reported that a 7.3 magnitude tremor
15:19shocked the mining region of Antofagasta in northern Chile, with no reports of casualty
15:25or material damage.
15:27According to the EMSCS, the scene occurred at a depth of 128 kilometers and it was felt
15:33in regions of Bolivia, Peru and Argentina.
15:36However, the probability of damage in Chile is low.
15:40Although no immediate damage was reported, the National Disaster Prevention and Response
15:44Service stated that it was investigating possible damage to people, destruction of basic services
15:49or infrastructure resulting from this earthquake.
15:52Furthermore, the National Seismological Center of the University of Chile reported multiple
15:57aftershocks near San Pedro de Atacama, whose magnitudes have ranged between 3.1 and 4.8.
16:11In Ecuador, a forest fire affected 120 hectares in the city of Giron and Santana Isabel.
16:17In the southeast, that jurisdiction due to the high levels of the great register in the
16:22area.
16:24The authorities at the site activated an emergency operations center to address the damage, while
16:28the fire brigades of the three cities are trying to control the fire.
16:32The secretary of the risk management informed that so far no houses have been affected but
16:37warned that the fire is still active.
16:39The governmental entity detailed that during this season, the low humidity level in the
16:44atmosphere, the scarce cleanliness and the increase in wind speed and ultraviolet radiation
16:50favored the creation of forest fires.
17:20Welcome back to From the South.
17:50In the Netherlands, the International Court of Justice has ruled by 14 votes to 1 that
17:55Israel must immediately cease all new settlement activities and evacuate all settlers from
17:59the occupied Palestinian territories.
18:02Through a public session, the declaration began after hearing the arguments of the Palestinian
18:07side and 49 member states of the United Nations organization.
18:10In turn, the ICJ found that Israel's legislation and measures constitute a violation of the
18:16International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination and
18:20Upper Hate.
18:21In this context, the court ruled that all countries should stop recognizing Israel's
18:26illegal presence in occupied Palestinian territories and the regime must provide compensation for
18:31damage to all affected persons in the region, in addition to ceasing immediately all settlement
18:37activities.
18:44The Palestinian Food Distribution Program announced a cut in the food rations provided
18:48by the United Nations due to the massive displacement in the Gaza Strip.
18:53The most recent report of the United Nations organization points out that 9 out of 10 Palestinians
18:57moved to the refugee camps at least once a month after being evicted by the occupying
19:02forces.
19:03On the other hand, the workers reduced their food consumption to guarantee the supply to
19:07the new refugees.

19:19of an Israeli strike that killed two civilians and wounded five more.
19:24According to local sources, after the deadly blast, the victims were transferred to the
19:28Arab Al-Ali Hospital in Gaza City.
19:32Since October 2023, the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip has killed more than 38,000
19:37Palestinians, most of them women and children.
19:40In addition, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for the first time since the beginning
19:45of the offensives against him on May 6, visited the city of Rafah, which has become one of
19:51the key areas of war that has been ongoing for more than nine months and in which some
19:5639 southern Palestinian and 326 Israeli soldiers have died.
20:03During the meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the situation
20:12in the Middle East, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denounced the shipment of weapons
20:17by the United States to Israel.
20:19The Russian position is supported by the UN, which has consistently called for a halt to
20:25armed flows in order to bring about a cessation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
20:30Lavrov assures, agreeing with the UN's view, that as soon as Washington's armed aid to
20:34Tel Aviv ends, the blockade will stop.
20:37On the disposition, Lavrov also stressed that the Slavic nation supports a permanent ceasefire
20:42on Gazan territory, as well as a release of Palestinian deprivants of their freedom.
20:49A massive computer blackout occurred on Friday, affecting supermarkets, airlines, ports and
20:59banks worldwide.
21:01In this sense, a number of computer services of technology company Microsoft suffered problems
21:06in several parts of the world as a result of an incident with the cybersecurity company
21:11CrowdStrike.
21:13The alarms about technical failure began in Australia and spread to Europe, the United
21:17States and other locations.
21:19The issues also affected a number of broadcaster companies, as well as banks, supermarkets,
21:23train services and airlines.
21:25Meanwhile, some media outlets also reported that the outage left thousands of users without
21:30access to the cloud computing platforms and Microsoft's 365 services.
21:40The failure generated delays in the schedule of flights of several airlines, with incidents
21:44in Australia, Hong Kong, India and Europe.
21:47Likewise, in the United States, all flights of several major airlines were affected due
21:51to the technical problem.
