00:00I yield back.
00:02The chair will now recognize the ranking member of the full committee, the General of California,
00:05for four minutes for an opening statement.
00:07Thank you, Mr. Chairman.
00:08Good morning.
00:09I'd like to welcome you, Madam Secretary, before the committee today and applaud the
00:15work, both your leadership and President Biden's leadership.
00:21The Biden-Harris administration is fighting every day for people by creating 15.7 million
00:28new jobs, doubling the average monthly number of jobs created during Biden's term when compared
00:35to Trump's first three years before the pandemic, increasing wages broadly, wealth and wages
00:43broadly, and steering our economy out of the throes of a pandemic made worse by the previous
00:51administration.
00:53I also applaud President Biden for never backing down in the face of opposition.
00:58When the Supreme Court blocked his plan to cancel student debt, President Biden sought
01:05other ways to help America's student loan borrowers.
01:08To date, the Biden administration has forgiven $144 billion in federal student loans for
01:16nearly 4 million borrowers.
01:18This is what it looks like when we have a leader who puts the well-being of the American
01:23people above his need for revenge.
01:27From signing into law the American Rescue Plan and the bipartisan infrastructure law,
01:33which is making the U.S. economy the strongest in the world, to taking on companies saddling
01:40Americans with illegal job fees, to cutting child poverty in half, our economy is stronger
01:48because of President Biden.
01:49I also commend Secretary Yellen's work to stabilize the banking system after last year's
01:56regional bank failures, as well as deploying $12 billion for CDFIs and MDIs and $10 billion
02:05for small businesses through the Small Business Credit Initiative.
02:10I'm working on a bill to build on the successes of the effectiveness of SSBCI, and I look
02:16forward to working with you on that.
02:19And there's still more work to be done, especially on issues like housing, and President Biden
02:26has made housing a top priority of his administration.
02:31On the other hand, the MAGA operatives have made their priority loud and clear.
02:37They have conceived a 920-page plan to undermine our government, our social safety net, and
02:44our values as America.
02:46This Project 2025 is diabolical, so insidious, and so disturbing that everyone in this country
02:54needs to read it.
02:55They need to read it so they can understand the plan to take away their rights, their
03:00freedoms, their democracy, and turn this country into a cresto-fascist state.
03:06You can read this garbage at www.project2025org.
03:15Now Project 2025 was written by former Trump White House staffers, Trump administration
03:21officials, and the ultra-right-wing Heritage Foundation.
03:25In addition to banning abortion and contraception, abolishing the Department of Education, taking
03:32over the Department of Justice so a Republican president can use the FBI to settle political
03:39scores just to hit a few of the lowlights, Project 2025 would also gut agencies like
03:49the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Reserve, and dangerously restructure
03:54the Treasury, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and other agencies critical
04:00to the economy.
04:02Moreover, Project 2025 describes plans to withdraw from international financial institutions
04:10like the IMF and the World Bank, both of which have advanced U.S. democratic ideals all around
04:17the world.
04:18I yield back.
