00:00Mr. Speaker, I rise today to discuss President Biden's open border.
00:09Since President Biden was sworn in, his open border policies have created a national security
00:13and a humanitarian crisis.
00:16House Republicans continue to urge the White House and our Democrat colleagues in Congress
00:20to work with us to identify a solution.
00:24Again and again, we are met with silence.
00:28I understand border security may not be politically convenient for my colleagues on the other
00:32side of the aisle, but at some point, they must stop pretending that this crisis does
00:37not exist.
00:39I found it telling that over the Fourth of July weekend, the White House touted that
00:43illegal crossings along the U.S. southern border decreased following President Biden's
00:48recent executive order.
00:50What they conveniently left out is that even with this executive order, May was still the
00:5539th straight month where illegal immigrant encounters have been higher than even the
01:01highest month under the President Trump administration.
01:05I understand the White House is in desperate need of good press.
01:08But with all due respect, Mr. Speaker, the facts are the facts.
01:11Our borders are far from secure and no feel-good story or graphic from this White House communications
01:17team is going to change that.
01:18I spent last week with Kansas and 11 counties doing town halls across the Big First District
01:23and they were clear, addressing the nation's border crisis matters to them.
01:28Under President Biden's policies, cartels have been the winners and innocent children
01:32and those who are trying to enter the country legally have been the losers.
01:37It doesn't have to be this way.
01:39Let's do something to fix this chaos.
01:42First, we need to immediately finish the border wall.
01:45Time and time again, Border Patrol agents have shared that a physical border along our
01:49nation's borders coupled with advanced technology is extremely helpful in stopping the cartels.
01:55We also need to designate the Mexican cartels as exactly what they are, terrorists.
02:01These human smugglers get rich by putting lives at risk and pouring fentanyl into our
02:05country.
02:06It is unacceptable.
02:08We need to implement policies that are actually effective.
02:10On his first day in office, President Biden immediately began rolling back the Trump administration's
02:15immigration policies for no other reason than they were associated with President Trump's name.
02:20President Biden never asked if the policies were helping curb illegal immigration or slow
02:25illegal immigrants from entering the country or if it's good for the United States of America.
02:29It was simply, if President Trump did it, it's gone.
02:32That has backfired on President Biden and the polls show it.
02:37There's a reason President Trump is more trusted on the border than President Biden.
02:41We need to reinstate remain in Mexico and end President Biden's disastrous catch and
02:45release policy.
02:47And finally, we must change our tone to send a clear message.
02:50Do not come to the U.S. illegally.
02:53At the start of his presidency, President Biden promised outright citizenship to more
02:57than 11 million illegal immigrants.
03:01America is a nation of legal immigrants, and the president's false promise was a slap in
03:05the face to the two million people who legally migrate to the U.S. each year the right way.
03:11We should make legal immigration easier and illegal immigration harder.
03:17Mr. President, this is not rocket science.
03:19It's simple.
03:20I asked my colleagues again today, what will it take for you to come to the table to secure
03:25the border?
03:26We can't keep pretending the current situation is normal.
03:30Your move.
03:31Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
03:32And with that, I yield back.
