00:00It was a splendid morning on the island of Sodor.
00:06James was feeling very pleased with himself.
00:09His red paint gleamed in the sunshine as he sped along the line.
00:14He reached the junction just as Percy puffed in with some trucks.
00:18James was surprised to see him.
00:20What are you doing here, Percy?
00:22You should be at the next station by now.
00:24You're late.
00:26I know, sighed Percy. These trucks have been troublesome all morning.
00:30That's no excuse, Percy, snorted James.
00:33Nothing should stop us.
00:34The Fat Controller relies on us to be on time.
00:37Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be on my way.
00:40And James puffed importantly away.
00:44Bossy buffers, muttered Percy.
00:52James arrived at the harbour.
00:54It was market day.
00:56The harbour yard was filled with the sweet smell of fruit from far away lands.
01:02The fruit was delivered in big ships.
01:05James watched as strawberries, oranges, melons and bananas were carefully loaded into his trucks.
01:12Then he set off for the station on the main line.
01:17On the way, he met Thomas.
01:20Really reliable, that's me, panted James proudly.
01:24Pity the same can't be said for Percy.
01:26Peep, peep, goodbye.
01:31What was that about?
01:32Gasped Annie and Clarabel.
01:34That was trouble.
01:36Trouble for James, just wait and see.
01:39Percy was back in the yard and busy shunting.
01:43Percy was back in the yard and busy shunting.
01:46He had the trucks in good order and was making up for lost time.
01:51But the station master had bad news.
01:54What's happened? Asked Percy's driver.
01:57James' brakes have jammed, we need Percy's help right away.
02:01Percy quickly set off to the rescue.
02:05He found James stuck on the line and looking glum.
02:09Percy couldn't help laughing.
02:11Got yourself in a jam, eh, James?
02:13What you might call a sticky situation.
02:16Be quiet, said James.
02:18It's not funny having jammed brakes and not very reliable either, teased Percy.
02:24I am surprised you let it happen, James.
02:26Nothing should stop us engines.
02:28That's enough, Percy, said his driver.
02:32That's enough, Percy, said his driver.
02:34Can you push these trucks?
02:36Of course I can, whistled Percy.
02:38There's no time to lose.
02:40James has done too much of that already.
02:42James angrily hissed steam as Percy was coupled to the trucks.
02:47Off we go, said Percy.
02:49I'll have to go fast to get there in time.
02:54These big engines are so unreliable.
02:58Be careful, Percy, called his driver.
03:01But Percy was in a hurry.
03:08He didn't see that the points had failed and that he had been diverted into a siding.
03:14Look out, Percy, shouted his driver and applied the brakes.
03:18But it was too late.
03:20Look out!
03:25The driver and the fireman had jumped clear, but squashed fruit squirted all over Percy.
03:39The Fat Controller arrived.
03:41Percy, you are not to blame for the points failure, but I do not run a jam factory.
03:46Yes, sir. No, sir.
03:49And Percy squelched sadly away.
03:52That night, the shed was silent.
03:55James and Percy felt very sorry for themselves.
03:58At last, Thomas spoke.
04:00You know, he said to no engine in particular,
04:03there's more than one way to get jammed.
04:05We all learned that today.
04:07Still, there was silence.
04:09What's more, continued Thomas,
04:11we also learned that sometimes when engines help each other out of a jam,
04:16things can still go wrong.
04:18Oh, said a voice.
04:19So finished Thomas.
04:20That means we learned a lot today.
04:23And therefore, then came a chorus.
04:26We're really useful engines after all.
