00:00The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas, ALBA-TCP, held an extraordinary
00:18meeting on Wednesday to denounce the attempted coup d'Ă©tat in Bolivia.
00:25The governments of Venezuela and China agreed to promote bilateral relations in tourism,
00:29education, industry and technology.
00:34And in Palestine, the Israeli occupation committed four massacres in the Gaza Strip, leaving
00:39at least 52 Palestinians killed.
00:45Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:50We begin with the news.
00:52The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our Americas, ALBA-TCP, held an extraordinary
00:56meeting on Wednesday to denounce the attempted coup d'Ă©tat in Bolivia.
01:00During the meeting, the President of Bolivia, Luis Arce, highlighted the spontaneous reaction
01:05of the citizens to defend democracy and social organizations during the coup acts in Murillo
01:11Square.
01:12He also rejected the military repression of the popular resistance that left 14 people
01:16wounded by firearms.
01:18In this regard, he detailed that the Bolivian justice has ordered administrative measures
01:23arrest in accordance with what is established by law.
01:27For their part, the members of the Alliance expressed their unconditional support for
01:31the government of Bolivia, President Luis Arce, while rejecting the advance of the ultra-right
01:36in the region.
01:44Disinformation and well-orchestrated campaigns seek to erode confidence in the legitimate
01:49and constitutional government through fake news.
01:52The right-wing and conservative nationalism seek to impose the matrix that it was not
01:56a coup, it was a self-coup.
02:09As they imposed the narrative that it was not a coup but a fraud to justify the overthrow
02:13of the then President Evo Morales in 2019.
02:17In this sense, it is fundamental to recover the democratic values of the rule of law and
02:22to reject the fundamentalism and warlordism that lead us.
02:26We categorically reject the narrative that there was no military coup d'Ă©tat.
02:41Those who promote this narrative nationally and internationally represent interests that
02:45are distant from the interests of the government and the plurinational state of Bolivia and
02:49the Bolivian people themselves, promoting the installation of a fascist government in
02:53our continent.
02:57For his part, the President of Cuba, Miguel DĂaz-Sanel, said that if the ultra-right wing
03:01achieves its objectives in leading America, peace will end and the persecution of social
03:05leaders will return.
03:07For this reason, he emphasized the need to protect the progressive governments of the
03:11region.
03:14The ultra-right uses this polarization to attack popular governments by means of manipulation
03:19and deceit, they seek to hinder their policies of social development and the advances achieved
03:23as a result of decades of struggle of the people.
03:27If they achieve their objectives, there will be no calm times ahead, repression and persecution
03:32of social leaders will come.
03:34There will come the atrocious neoliberalism, the surrender of natural resources to transnational
03:39corporations.
03:48New lost decades will come and the setback of all the advances in integration will be
03:52intensified.
03:53We see and know that a halt is possible if we continue to bet on unity with respect for
03:57diversity.
03:59Our peoples know it, this explains the spontaneous mobilization that immediately came to defend
04:04President Lucho, even though the lives of these people were at risk.
04:13A government of progressive and popular orientation must defend itself in tight unity against
04:18the powerful adversaries it brings with it.
04:20It is up to all of us to promote solidarity and cooperation in the region, complying strictly,
04:26directly or indirectly, in the affairs of attempts of any other state, but unhesitatingly
04:30supporting progressive governments.
04:34Also the Prime Minister of San Vincente and the Granadines, Rafael Gonsalves, stated that
04:39the attempted coup d'etat in Bolivia was aimed at strengthening imperialism and the
04:43application of unequal economic policies in the region.
04:50And when we have a democratically elected government, and this democratic government
04:54is progressive and anti-imperialist, whether by design or not, the actions of the coup
05:11perpetrators are actions designed to strengthen imperialism, to strengthen an unequal economic
05:17policy, therefore, I am not surprised that pro-imperialist governments around the world,
05:36including in Latin America, applaud this coup, fortunately.
05:53There are enough people in Latin America and the world and of course in ALBA who are united
05:57in denouncing this anti-democratic act and the violence inherent in a coup d'etat.
06:04President Nicolás Maduro denounced that violent actions were also being carried out in Venezuela
06:09with the support of Colombian paramilitaries and expressed his full support for Bolivia
06:13and ALBA-TCP.
06:18What we are going to achieve, what the people is going to achieve is a great victory.
06:23They did it in the state of Teixeira, they don't know us yet.
06:39We are plagued by Colombian paramilitarism.
06:42They want to generate violence.
06:43They wanted to take over Teixeira and the rest of Venezuela.
06:59Violence here and violence there.
07:01Today it is a safe and peaceful state, and I can say from the state of Teixeira to my
07:05brothers and sisters of ALBA, to receive all the support from the people of Venezuela
07:23to the right road of ALBA.
07:24We are waging a battle where Bolivia has given an example of dignity and capacity to respond.

07:52Welcome back.
07:53The governments of Venezuela and China agreed to promote bilateral relations in tourism,
07:57education, industry and technology.
08:00The agreements were signed in the framework of a meeting held between the governor of
08:03La Guaira state, José Alejandro Terán, the salt authority Marcos Meléndez and other
08:09delegates from the coast with representatives of China's Xi Jinping.
08:13The delegations discussed the development of growth and the special economic zone of
08:18the state of La Guaira and proposed the construction of the most modern water park in Latin America.
08:23The governor of La Guaira emphasized that the coast has all the conditions to reactivate
08:28its economy through these agreements in order to reinforce the growth of tourism.
08:38In the areas of food production, technology development, science and also of course the
08:43sea trade, because La Guaira has the main airport and one of the main ports with the
08:49most developed technology in the country and this of course makes us think about the maritime
08:53development industry.
08:56The vice-chairman of China's Jiangxi legislature Liu Qian said that both provinces and states
09:02cooperate for long-term investments on economic development.
09:07And it has really found a lot of cooperation, which can be between Xinjia and La Guaira,
09:12in at least long-term investments, the water park.
09:15There is also mining, agriculture, all of that, all of that is part of the development
09:20that can be operated between both provinces and states.
09:25The government of Venezuela offered details to the diplomatic corps accredited in the
09:30country about the electoral process of the next July 28th.
09:33In this regard, the foreign minister Iván Gil highlighted the strength of the Venezuelan
09:37electoral system as a warranty of transparency, a characteristic that, in his opinion, places
09:43it among the most accurate systems in the world.
09:46This fact is being witnessed by the more than 635 international electoral envoys attending
09:52the elections as observers.
09:54Likewise, the diplomat denounced before the international community the attacks and aggressions
09:59against the presidential candidate, Nicolás Maduro, and the Venezuelan people.
10:10Our electoral system is a system in which we are also very proud to have it, an electoral
10:15system built to give the greatest possible transparency.
10:24I and all the electoral power and the government of Venezuela and the people of Venezuela are
10:28sure that it is perhaps the electoral system without doubt one of the most perfect electoral
10:39systems that exists on the face of the earth, and a system that is based on popular elections.
10:48Furthermore, the Venezuelan foreign minister Iván Gil denounced that the United States
10:52and Europe seek to undermine the electoral process of July 28 and distort the will of
10:57the people.
11:00This government, as you all know very well, has been subjected to a policy of sanctions,
11:05a policy of aggression, a policy of 936 sanctions that have so far gone to the heart of the
11:18government's work, harming the people, and this obviously limits or creates distortion
11:23in this government's ability to manage, which it has managed to resolve.
11:33But we must denounce to the world that it is an election that is being interfered with
11:40by external agents, especially from the United States and Europe, who are trying to undermine
11:49the electoral process to distort the will of the people.
11:54The election campaign continues in Venezuela.
11:56At the same time, hundreds of so-called electoral fairs have been set up across the country
12:01to get the citizens acquainted with the voting process.
12:04Our correspondent in Caracas, Juno Zunar, with the details.
12:09The election campaign in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela is continuing.
12:14Preparations are all over the town.
12:16Here we find ourselves in the western part of the capital city of Caracas, in the Parque
12:21Ali Primera, and here are some stands organized for the citizens of Venezuela who are being
12:29informed about how to vote.
12:31This is a so-called electoral fair, if you wish, and we have here the responsible person
12:39for this.
12:43We take your fingerprints and then you pass to the electoral machine.
12:46The screen will show the candidates.
12:54The parties that are in our Venezuelan electoral system.
12:57You press on the face of the candidate or the party of your preference.
13:00Wait.
13:01Press vote.
13:08Take your voucher or ballot.
13:10Introduce it in the polling box and well, that is the process.
13:13And we have here the protection of the military personnel.
13:19According to the National Election Council, there are 81 different stands in the capital
13:24district all over Venezuela.
13:26The number is 976.
13:29The council publishes the addresses of each of them to the public.
13:36And then we give them this brochure which shows how simple and transparent our elections
13:40are, with our candidates and information about our fair.
13:44Escalante explains that if the citizen has made his or her mind up already politically,
13:49the entire voting process takes approximately 25 seconds only.
13:54She adds that citizens show great interest.
13:59People of different ages come here daily, as from 18 years old.
14:02And we show them how the process in itself works.
14:05We are here all day long and for approximately another 15 days.
14:11As you see, the process is quite transparent.
14:14It includes the electronic part and the paper part.
14:18It is known as one of the most progressive systems in all of Latin America.
14:23And citizens are being here taught how it works, what they have to do on July 28th
14:30to cast their votes in the presidential elections in Venezuela.
14:35Yunus Soner, Telesur, Caracas, Venezuela
14:54Israeli occupation forces committed four massacres in the Gaza Strip during the last 24 hours,
14:59leaving at least 52 Palestinians killed.
15:02Health authorities also reported more than 200 civilians wounded, as authorities warned
15:07that both figures could be even higher, since many of the victims remain trapped under the rubble.
15:12Israeli troops continue to impede the entry of ambulances and civil defense teams to the targeted areas.
15:18According to the most recent health report, at least 38,295 Palestinians have been killed
15:26and another 88,241 injured since October 2023.
15:35On Wednesday, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs
15:40denounced that the Gaza Strip is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the humanitarian crisis
15:45due to the constant bombardments perpetrated by the Israeli occupation army.
15:49In this regard, the United Nations Agency criticized the new grand offensive carried out against the city of Kanjunis,
15:55which caused the displacement of 250,000 Palestinians and aggravated the crisis in the region,
16:01besides destabilizing even more the aid flows.
16:05On the other hand, the statement also denounced the constant aggressions against health facilities,
16:11counting nearly 453 attacks since October.
16:15The organization also informed that approximately 50,000 babies were born in the Palestinian enclave
16:21under traumatic and unhealthy conditions.
16:28The shortage of basic medicines and medical supplies is preventing the health staff in Gaza
16:33to attend properly to the sick and the injured,
16:36as it is evidenced by the testimony of this official from Doctors Without Borders Middle East section.

17:19Constant news coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the rest of the world.
17:23Final short break, don't go away.
17:37Welcome back.
17:38China launched an investigation into the European Union's restrictions on trade and investment
17:43imposed against Chinese companies.
17:45The action follows the request submitted by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce
17:49for the import and export of machinery and electronic products.
17:53The investigation will focus on wind and solar energy, security equipment, among other products,
17:58and must be completed before January 10th, 2025.
18:02The sanctions allow countries of the European bloc to carry out prior reviews
18:06and surprise inspections of operations by Chinese companies.
18:14The president of Poland, Andrzej Duda, denied Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO,
18:21as long as the Russian special military operation in that territory continues.
18:25The Polish president did not rule out an official invitation to Ukraine to join the bloc,
18:30even though for the time being there is no proposal approved by the leaders of the military bloc.
18:35Let us remember that CAIF requested to join the multinational organization in 2022,
18:41since its territory is in conflict.
18:43Thus, despite the support and technical, economic and military assistance
18:47of several NATO member countries to the Ukrainian regime.
18:51On Wednesday, Russia's parliament approved a bill that would rise income taxes
18:56for the region in a move to return to national projects.
18:59The legislation is a major change for the flat rate tax that was widely credited
19:04with improving revenue collections after it was introduced in 2001.
19:09In this sense, the bill would impose a 13% tax for incomes of up to 2.4 million rubles a year,
19:17equivalent to 27,500 US dollars.
19:20For incomes over that amount, a steadily higher tax rate would apply,
19:24with a maximum rate of 22% for incomes exceeding 50 million rubles or 573,000 dollars.
19:32The bill was endorsed in the final third reading by the State Duma,
19:36and hours later by the Federation Council.
19:38It must be now signed by President Vladimir Putin to become a law.
19:44We really found consensus in those proposals to improve the tax system,
19:48based on the principle of fairness, as the President instructed us,
19:51based on the principle of stimulation.
19:53This is not a neutral tax system.
19:55This is a stimulating tax system, stimulating investment
19:58and the redistribution of funds from the richer to those who need government support.
20:02The most important thing is that these resources should be fairly allocated
20:05to the implementation of the tasks set by the President.
20:09In Arles, France, the South African artist William Kentridge

20:43the struggle against racial and political inequality.
20:46With a mise-en-scène that evokes the most relevant problems of today,
20:49the play focuses on the conflict of racial and political despotisms,
20:52the refugees and the place of art in these struggles,
20:55both in the past and the present.
20:58Inspired by real events based on the departure of many refugees
21:01seeking to escape from Vichy, France, in 1941,
21:04the piece seeks to discover and recall
21:07all those transatlantic closings of the 17th and the 18th centuries.
21:10all those transatlantic closings of the 17th and the 18th centuries.
21:13But it's about the journey, about the conflict on it,
21:16about the questions of colonialism, which are still present,
21:19so very present in the 1940s, in the writings of CĂ©saire and Fanon,
21:22but still very much in the air we are in today.
21:25What's the relationship of refugees to countries they go to?
21:28Who is the stranger you welcome to a house?
21:31Who is the stranger you keep at the door?

21:46In addition, 7 performers singing in English, French and various South African dialects
21:49provide their brilliant voices to deliver the message.
21:52The heart of the production is the singing,
21:55the singing of a chorus of 7 women singers and some other soloists,
