00:00Jeremy Kahn does mornings on The Great Fan in Baltimore.
00:07He's got the top show in the Charm City.
00:11You can follow him on X for free at J-Kahn, C-O-N-N, sports, and catch his show, check
00:17it out, podcasts of it, whatever.
00:19It's good to see you, Jeremy.
00:20I got to tell you that we've always felt on this show for months.
00:29I mean, since the jump, to be honest with you, Carver High and I have been on the Orioles
00:34to win that East.
00:35This is not some kind of revelation to us that they passed the vaunted Yankees.
00:42What is amazing to us is how badly the Yankees have fallen on hard times, losing 17 of 23.
00:49That's crazy to me.
00:50I never thought I'd see that.
00:52But I always thought the Orioles were younger, better, faster, better arms, frankly, better
01:00defense, everything about that team I like to win the East.
01:05I never once thought it was the Yankees division this year.
01:08We didn't either in Baltimore.
01:10If you've actually watched this team and seen the growth, like I could make a case that
01:13Gunnar Henderson is the best baseball player, period.
01:16Look at the numbers across the board, what he's doing.
01:18He's got the highest war in the league.
01:20And now you're looking at this team.
01:21You had a Corbin Burns.
01:23Everything looks great.
01:24So, yeah, it's not a surprise.
01:26And the thing I would tell people is go look at the record against the Ailes.
01:29They're destroying Ailes team.
01:31So there's no fear when it comes to that, whether it's up in New York, Boston or down
01:36here in Camden.
01:37You know, what's amazing is not only that they kill everyone in the division, but they're
01:44actually better on the road than they've been at Camden by like a game.
01:50I think they're 12 games over, 500 on the road and 11 at home.
01:54I actually bet on Jamison Shots of Tyone last night and a big fat buck, 78.
02:01I took him because he's been pitching really well, even though that team stinks.
02:05I took him last night, but now I'll go back to reality with the Orioles.
02:09The rest of this series, if you look at it, they've been better on the road.
02:14Yeah, it's kind of crazy when you look at some of those anomalies because in years past,
02:20they've always been a great home team and struggled on the road, especially out West.
02:23And then they're coming back from a West Coast trip and granted it's Oakland and Seattle,
02:27but it's still a West Coast trip that they came back with a winning record in four, two.
02:31So you keep stacking those series wins and I think they're going to pull away from the
02:34Yankees.
02:35I don't see that being much of a problem, but yeah, this team's incredible.
02:38And you talked about the series coming up.
02:39I mean, you get showed it tonight going up against Corbin Burns.
02:43And I don't know if you saw the stat earlier, you might appreciate this.
02:46The Orioles have hit more home runs off of lefties throwing four-seam fastballs than
02:50any other team in baseball at 19 and showed us going to throw that four-seam fastball
02:55quite a bit tonight.
02:56It's hot and the wind's blowing out.
02:58Could be a good night for runs.
03:00Listen, I can't believe the Brewers gave them Burns.
03:07It's crazy.
03:08This was a win-win for both of them, though, I think because they got Joey Ortiz, who was
03:12running for rookie of the year.
03:14Joey really didn't have a spot here in Baltimore because this farm system is just, it's absolutely
03:18ridiculous.
03:19If you go look at what the Triple-A team's been doing and everybody keeps saying, well,
03:22that guy's untouchable.
03:23That guy's an untouchable.
03:25They all can't be untouchable, but you know, Joey Ortiz was a good swap.
03:29They weren't going to pay Corbin Burns.
03:31And the cool thing with the Orioles, if they don't resign Corbin Burns, they get a first-round
03:34pick back.
03:35So they've been doing great as far as accumulating picks, hitting on those picks.
03:40And of course, as you look at it, the team's been great on the field.
03:43They've been developing these guys.
03:45They kill righties.
03:49You talk about the East, it's 19-7 against the East, 12-4 against the Central, which
03:56is really, I mean, that's crazy, too.
03:59The West, they're three games over 500, Interleague, they're 500.
04:04That's kind of been their problem, but who cares about that?
04:08Yeah, I mean, if anything comes down to tiebreakers, they're going to have them for the most part.
04:14Now, they did just, you know, have a tough series against the Guardians.
04:17They got swept by the Astros, but they're so far ahead of some of these teams that I
04:21don't even think that's going to be an issue.
04:22I do think this Orioles team, and I can't believe I'm saying this, and it's so weird
04:27being a Baltimore fan and not just being biased, but looking at your team saying, I think we
04:31have the best team and we should get to the World Series this year.
04:35Listen, you know, why do you think that the playoffs, like, didn't go well for them last
04:41year?
04:42Because they were dipping their toe in the water for the first time in a long time?
04:46I mean, I'm a big believer in you got to lose before you can win, and in series like that,
04:51you got to get in the playoffs, know what you're doing.
04:54But yeah, it kind of went awry with the pitching staff, and when they weren't hitting, things
04:58kind of got, you know, jumbled there.
05:00And it was the same thing that kind of happened a few years ago, or way back, when they got
05:04swept in the ALCS by the Royals, that those games were close, but you still lost four.
05:09So yeah, I think you look at that Texas team, and they were just hot at the time, and I
05:13think they just made that run.
05:16So you play the Cubs two more, and then the Yankees come in there this weekend to Camden,
05:22and the way they've been playing, if I were the O's right now, I'd be licking my chops.
05:27Well, you have, I keep saying, how are the Yankees favored?
05:31I know they're going on the road, and it's the Rays.
05:33Who's favoring this team?
05:34They've been the worst team in baseball the last 26 games.
05:38It's kind of ridiculous.
05:39So the fans here were upset that Corbin Burns didn't start last night, because there's a
05:43chance he could start the All-Star game, and of course, he's going to start tonight.
05:47And then, of course, as you look at their pitching staff, it's a couple of guys that
05:51maybe you don't know the names, but they've actually been pitching really well.
05:54You know, it really is amazing, the amount of guys hitting home runs on that team.
06:00I mean, honestly, Henderson, 27, for Christ's sakes, Santander, 23, Adley Rushman, 16, which
06:09is solid, Westbrook, 15, solid, Mountcastle, 12, solid, Couser, 12, solid, O'Hearn, 11,
06:18solid, Mullens, 9, solid.
06:21I mean, my God, they just rake.
06:25But the best thing about it is they're not just a home run hitting team.
06:28They steal bases.
06:29They run the bases well.
06:30They'll take third base on a single.
06:32Gunner Henderson's always looking to take that extra base.
06:35You come up lazy with a single up the middle, and you're not going to pick it up and throw
06:38it in quick enough.
06:39We've seen them do that.
06:40But there's so much power, one through nine, on this team.
06:43And to be honest, Scotty, there's more in the farm system as well.
06:46As soon as Sam Basayo gets called up, you're going to have one of the best hitting catchers
06:50in all of baseball.
06:52So between Rodriguez, Burns, that bullpen with Kimbrough, Cano, am I wrong?
07:00They are lethal at both ends.
07:03Yeah, but I still think if you want to look at it, there are a lot of people that don't
07:08trust Craig Kimbrough in that closer's role.
07:10He's been great this year.
07:12We've had, what, four blown saves, and all of those were one run games.
07:16So I think fans were upset about that.
07:18And ironically, then they started fighting that he should be in the All-Star game once
07:21Tye Holmes went in over him.
07:23So that back end is fine, but I still think they need to add another arm in the bullpen
07:27and maybe another starter as well.
07:29I mean, you know, you can doubt him all you want, 38 games, 23 saves, a two ERA.
07:36I'll take that every day.
07:37And fans can be drunk and say stupid stuff all they want.
07:41Let's talk about the Ravens, since I hate them so much as a Steeler fan.
07:46Their rivalry is awesome.
07:48Those games between the Steelers and Ravens are awesome.
07:52I still don't care what anybody says.
07:54That's their rival in the North, is still the Pittsburgh Steelers.
07:58It's always going to be.
07:59We could have other teams competing for the division, whatever it is.
08:03You know, it's Steeler week whenever they play Pittsburgh.
08:06And now that Patrick Queen is there, it's going to be a lot of fun seeing what happens.
08:10Yeah, can you believe he went to the Steelers and stuck a knife in everyone's chest?
08:18It doesn't surprise me that he left.
08:19It surprised me that he went to the Steelers and then all of a sudden said that's where
08:23he wanted to go.
08:24He felt like he should be there and then trashed our food here, which I think is ridiculous.
08:28Oh, the humanity trashed the food.
08:33You got great food there, great seafood, are you kidding me?
08:37I mean, honestly, Maryland is for crabs.
08:41I can't even fathom that.
08:43So how good will Lamar be from last season when he was just the king of the NFL and then
08:49it all fell apart in the playoffs?
08:50I got 20 seconds, brother, respectfully.
08:53I think he's going to be awesome.
08:54He slimmed down this year after winning the MVP last year, so he's still improving.
08:58They've got all kinds of weapons in the passing game and now Derrick Henry's back there.
09:01Just going to make him better.
09:02I just want to say, Jeremy, that I have not slimmed down at all.
09:09Me either.
09:10All right, brother, I love you.
09:11It's good to see you.
09:12Take care of Baltimore for us.
09:13Good having you on Coast to Coast.
09:14Be well.
09:15Thanks, man.
09:16Anytime.
