00:00In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro urged the Attorney General's office to investigate
00:13the far-right's destabilizing plans for the presidential elections.
00:21In Iran, Massoud Pashinyan was elected president after defeating Saeed Jalili in Friday's runoff
00:26election, and in Palestine, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 29 civilians in three
00:35massacres during the last 24 hours in Gaza.
00:44Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana,
00:48Cuba.
00:49We begin with the news.
00:50President Nicolás Maduro urged the Attorney General's office to investigate a video released
00:55by Colombian parliamentary groups in which they claimed that the extreme right contacted
00:59them to promote destabilizing plans for the presidential elections.
01:03The national president received news about an accusation made by a Colombian armed group
01:07where they claimed that they were contacted by the Venezuelan extreme right wing to carry
01:11out a plan to destabilize the government of President Nicolás Maduro on the day of the
01:14presidential elections.
01:16The video details that the Venezuelan far-right wing was seeking to attack the border areas
01:21with the support of parliamentary groups after attacking the country's electricity
01:25system.
01:31Venezuelans celebrated Friday the 213th anniversary of his independence from the Spanish colonial
01:36empire.
01:37The Bolivarian head of state Nicolás Maduro presided over a military parade in Caracas
01:41to mark the historic date and deliver the event's closing speech.
01:44Our correspondent in Caracas, Yunis Soner, with this story.
01:51The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has commemorated today, on July 5, the 213th anniversary of
01:58its independence.
01:59A military parade was held in the capital city of Caracas with the attendance of President
02:05Nicolás Maduro, who held a speech at the ceremony.
02:08213 years later, remembering the young Simon Bolivar, member of the Patriotic Council,
02:19we can state, Miranda, Cristobal, Bolivar, we have accomplished, we have preserved the
02:27most valuable good that the liberators and the Comandante Chávez had left to us, independence.
02:37We are a free, sovereign and independent homeland that is moreover in peace.
02:47Today is also the day of the national Bolivarian armed forces.
02:52Thus, the parade had a military character, or better said, a civic military character,
02:58with participation of armed forces and representatives of the civil society.
03:03Here, President Maduro also commented on the historic and future role of the armed forces
03:09of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
03:13These armed forces of the liberators was born as the most powerful armed forces ever
03:21existed and has crushed the imperial, colonialist and genocidal military that had dominated
03:31our America for 300 years.
03:34This is the anti-colonialist national Bolivarian armed forces.
03:42And just weeks ahead of the presidential elections, which are due to take place on
03:46July 28, the President also commented on the future of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela
03:53and its basic foundational political positions.
03:57This baton of the Commander-in-Chief of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces, which I
04:05have carried with patriotism, bravery, defending the truth of our country, will continue to
04:12be in good hands in the coming years.
04:16This baton of command will never fall into the hands of an oligarch, a puppet, a traitor.
04:25I swear, never.
04:29On the Day of Independence and the Armed Forces, Venezuela displayed unity between the Presidency,
04:35the Armed Forces and the people, as well as a firm stance against any form of foreign
04:40intervention into the country.
04:42Miguel Soner from Caracas, Venezuela.
04:47Nicaragua's government congratulated the Venezuelan people on its President Nicolás
04:51Maduro for the 213th anniversary of their nation's independence.
04:54The congratulations were expressed through an official statement where Managua said it
04:58was a historic day for the heirs of Bolívar and Chávez for an eternally free, sovereign
05:03and temperate Venezuela.
05:05The text also expressed the Nicaraguan government's certainty that great triumphs and victories
05:10will continue to be harvested in all the battles by what it described as a heroic homeland.
05:16In reference to the upcoming presidential elections to be held in Venezuela on July 28,
05:20the statement reiterated Managua's all-out support and solidarity with the Bolivarian
05:24cause in what it described as a victorious July for the Venezuelan people.
05:35A Buenos Aires court in Argentina has recognized the victims who appealed to the principle
05:39of universal justice and filed a complaint against former Colombian President Álvaro
05:44Rivera Vélez.
05:45The court ruling followed a lawsuit filed by 11 victims on November 7, 2023 before federal
05:51judges to investigate the former Colombian president for cases of extrajudicial executions.
05:56The victims claimed that they had to resort to Argentinian courts after no mechanisms
06:01were found in Colombia to carry out the investigation.
06:04The principle of universal jurisdiction allows victims to go to justice institutions in other
06:07countries to investigate those allegedly responsible for a crime.
06:18In Paraguay, teachers' unions demonstrated in rejection of the civil service and civil
06:21service career bill promoted by the government.
06:25The educators expressed that this plan does not guarantee job stability and that it is
06:29an attack against teachers' freedom of organization.
06:32In this sense, they met with legislators in the National Congress to present their demands
06:36and the rejection of this regulation, in addition to denouncing that the government
06:40seeks to suppress the right to protest and strikes.
06:52In Brazil, at least 10 citizens died and more than 40 were injured after a bus overturned
06:56due to mechanical failure in the city of Sao Paulo.
07:00The accident happened early on Wednesday morning.
07:02According to authorities, it was a unit carrying approximately 50 passengers.
07:06On board were tourists on their way to the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparsita, an important
07:11pilgrimage site for Catholics in the South American country.
07:14In this regard, local authorities and emergency services have mobilized resources to assist
07:19victims and clarify the exact causes of the tragic event.

07:35We'll start in a minute.

07:59Welcome back.
08:00Let's now take a look at the situation in Haiti after the arrival of special forces
08:04from the Kenyan police as part of the mission approved by the United Nations to support
08:08the Haitian police in the rescue of national security.
08:12Correspondent Daisy Toussaint has the details.
08:16A contingent of the special forces of the Kenyan police arrived in Haiti and is in charge
08:21of restoring security in Port-au-Prince, which is almost entirely controlled by armed criminal
08:26groups.
08:27But despite the relative optimism of some sectors of the population, there are reservations
08:31due to past experiences with foreign interventions in the Caribbean nation, which were sometimes
08:36marred by accusations of abuses.
08:49We have had in the last 20 or 30 years, more than five interventions of different missions
08:53of the United Nations with different names, but the result is a complete weakness of the
08:57state institutions, especially the police and now we have the Kenyans.
09:01And now the people in Haiti are a little bit sad to see that every time the nation has
09:05to go to external forces to organize our security.
09:09But those in power, especially those who are always controlled by the United States, have
09:13really managed to take over the sovereignty and control of the country and that is sad.
09:29The arrival of Kenyan police officers in Haiti, as part of an international mission authorized
09:34by the UN, aims to improve the security situation in a country severely affected by violence
09:39from criminal groups.
09:52There are many people who say they feel a little relief to see that something is moving
09:56because we have been left for more than two years with the government of Ariel Henry.
10:00It is like the country, the state was in pause and they were not acting at all to resolve
10:04the situation.
10:05Then there are also people who have the hope that they will be able to move freely, return
10:09to their jobs etc. but we haven't seen anything yet.
10:26The leader of one of the most important armed bands, Jimmy Cherizier, known as Barbecue,
10:31marched through the streets with his men to show his disagreement with the foreign mission
10:34calling for dialogue or fighting, ignoring the fact that the violence sown by these criminal
10:39groups has left more than 580,000 people displaced and has aggravated the humanitarian crisis
10:44in the country.
10:52I know very well that a person who has a military background and a person who has knowledge
10:57about the police knows that if he is fighting, he has to leave the door open for dialogue.
11:08Haitian Prime Minister Gary Conil has expressed optimism about the potential of this intervention
11:12to restore order and has called for patience while forces acclimatize and begin operations.
11:18But the criminal group's leaders indicate that there will be resistance and that they
11:21will go into battle.
11:26I recognize that there are people among us who did very bad things that society does
11:31not agree with.
11:32But we are true sons of Desalegn and we will not allow any foreign force to come here to
11:37kill us.
11:41Despite threats from armed criminal groups, the UN and several countries involved hope
11:45that this mission will mark a positive change for Haiti, while the population waits expectantly
11:50for a solution to the crisis in the Caribbean nation.
12:07In Iran, Massoud Peshachian is the new president after defeating Saeed Yalili in a run-off
12:15election in the Persian nation.
12:17The Ministry of Interior confirmed that Peshachian obtained 53.66% of the votes.
12:21Yalili, his rival in the second round, won 44.34% of the votes in an election where 49.8%
12:28of the population voted.
12:30Supporters of the winner, who obtained 16.3 million votes, have taken to the streets of
12:35the country to celebrate the victory.
12:42Let's review the profile of Massoud Peshachian.
12:44Born in 1954, he has a PhD in Medicine and General Surgery from Tabriz University.
12:50He was appointed Health Minister from 2001 to 2005, during former President Katami's
12:56term.
12:57From 2016 to 2020, he served as first Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
13:01He has previously run for the elections in 2013 and 2021.
13:04In 2013, he resigned in favor of Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, while in 2021,
13:11the Guardian Council didn't pass him as a candidate.
13:21France prepares for next Sunday's elections to decide how the new National Assembly will
13:25be formed.
13:26In this context, the advance of the far-right has made more than 200 candidates withdraw
13:30their mandate to create a Republican quorum to stop Marine Le Pen at the polls.
13:34More details with our special envoy in Paris.
13:40France prepares for the second round of the most important legislative elections in decades.
13:44Young people fight street by street to stop a far-right majority in France.
13:48We are now distributing flyers in the streets, because we believe that it is very important
13:52that everybody goes to vote, because we don't want the National Rally to become Prime Minister,
13:57nor to have a majority in the Assembly.
13:59That's why we believe that we have to go to vote and mobilize the people to go to the
14:03voting day.
14:04That's why we are here in the street giving out the flyers in the center of Paris, but
14:08also in the different constituencies.
14:10Fabio is a young Parisian artist of immigrant origin.
14:13He follows the rise of the far-right in France with great concern.
14:16But what is clear to him is that Emmanuel Macron's mandate has come to an end.
14:21Of course, for me, his presidency is over.
14:25His party obtained a minority.
14:27It is true that there is no absolute majority, but to obtain two minorities does not give
14:33him a choice, because he would be behind the extreme right and the left forces.
14:39That's why he is blocked, because he has no choice but to collaborate with the left.
14:44More than 200 candidates have withdrawn their candidacy to stop a far-right majority that
14:48the new popular front is trying to stop at the ballot box within a historical agreement
14:52of the French left.
14:57Emmanuel Macron wanted to take the left for a ride, but they managed to reach a historic
15:01agreement in 24 hours.
15:04Many thought that there was a lot of difference, hatred, resentment, but in a context like
15:08this, there was only one possibility.
15:12That all the progressive forces and all the forces that call themselves leftists agreed
15:16on a common program and dared to lead it so that the extreme right could not come to power
15:21and that a progressive government could finally succeed in France.
15:26The Place de la République is once again the anti-fascist symbol in France, symbol
15:31of the republican agreement against the advance of the ultraconservatives at the ballot box.
15:36A republican cordon of parties, both left and center-right, to prevent Marine Le Pen's
15:42ultra-right from gaining power is the response of the political parties in France for the
15:46second round of the legislative elections next Sunday.
15:49Sergio Rodrigo and Javier Díaz-Muriana, Del Sur, Paris.
16:19Welcome back.
16:39Israeli occupation forces killed at least 29 Palestinians in three massacres during
16:43the last 24 hours in the Gaza Strip.
16:46Health Ministries report that the Sionist attacks injured over 100 people, however,
16:50authorities warn that many victims remain on the ruble amid constant Israeli bombardments,
16:54alerting to the possibility that bull figures could be even higher.
16:58According to the latest reports, 38,098 Palestinians have been killed and another 87,705 have been
17:04wounded since October 2023.
17:11In this context, the Palestinian Health Ministry called on the international community to stop
17:15Israel's war campaign in the occupied territories.
17:18Authorities also call on humanitarian organizations to exert pressure on the Tel Aviv regime to
17:22stop its attacks on medical centers, rescue groups, and ambulances in the Gaza Strip.
17:27Only 15 out of 36 hospitals are currently operating in the Gaza Strip amid severe shortages
17:33of staff and supplies.
17:39In Palestine, also, authorities denounce a water crisis in the occupied West Bank due
17:46to Israeli cuts to water supplies.
17:48The Palestinian Water Authority pointed out that water consumption is rising in the midst
17:52of rising summer temperatures, while denouncing that the amount of water available for Palestinians
17:57in the West Bank amounts to 105 million cubic meters, 13 million less than what was agreed
18:03upon in the 1995 Oslo Accords.
18:06The Colonization and World Resistance Commission denounced that Israeli authorities control
18:1088% of water sources in the West Bank and allow settlers to have free and unimpeded
18:16access to the vital liquid.
18:25The World Health Organization warned that fuel shortages in the Gaza Strip could have
18:29a catastrophic impact on health services destroyed by the Israeli siege.
18:34The United Nations institutions pointed out that only 90,000 liters of fuel managed to
18:38enter the Gaza Strip, while the health sector needs more than 80,000 liters daily.
18:43In that sense, the entity informed that they are working to send limited supplies of gasoline
18:47to important hospitals, including the Nasser Medical Complex and the 21 ambulances of the
18:52Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
18:54On the other hand, they also stressed the need to reopen the Rafah Crossing and to allow
18:58the flow of humanitarian aid.
19:04In other news, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Friday the Prime Minister of
19:10Hungary Viktor Orban.
19:12The main issue of both leaders' agenda was finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
19:17During a joint press conference following the closed-door meeting, the Hungarian Prime
19:20Minister admitted that Moscow's and Kiev's positions remain very far apart, citing his
19:25recent trip to Kiev to meet the Ukrainian leadership.
19:27However, he recognized that starting the contact was the most important step and promised he
19:31would continue to work on that direction.
19:34On the other hand, the Russian President reiterated Moscow's readiness to resolve the conflict
19:38through negotiations, but warned that the Ukrainian leadership seemed to be still incapable
19:42of abandoning its idea of waging a war until the end.
19:51Russia favors a full and final end to the conflict.
19:54The conditions for that, as I said, are set out in my speech at the Foreign Ministry.
20:10We are talking about the total withdrawal of all Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk and
20:15Lugansk People's Republics, from the Zaporizhia and Kursan regions.
20:19And Ukraine's sponsors continue to try to use the country and its people as a battering
20:24ram, sacrificed in the confrontation with Russia.
20:32As we see the state of affairs, taking into account what we heard today from Mr. Prime
20:38Minister, Kiev is still not ready to abandon the conflict.
20:49To abandon the idea of waging a war to a victorious end.
20:55I have found that positions are far apart.
21:01The number of steps needed to end the war and bring about peace are many and high.
21:10But in terms of dialogue and restoring dialogue, the first important step has been taken today
21:15and I will continue this work.
21:17Like this we have come to the end of this newsbrief.
