00:00In Venezuela, the electoral process begins with Sunday's voting drill for the upcoming
00:13July 28th elections.
00:18In Bolivia, the anti-corruption Corum ordered preventive detention for three former military
00:23ships accused of participating in Wednesday's attempted coup d'etat.
00:30And in Palestine, Israel intensifies its bombardment of Palestinian civilians, killing several
00:34people in Gaza as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
00:43Hello welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Televisa Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
00:49In Venezuela, the electoral process begins with Sunday's voting drill for the upcoming
00:53July 28th elections.
00:55President of the National Electoral Council Luis Amoroso reported that citizens will be
00:58able to vote in any of the electoral centers set up for the drill.
01:02At the same time, Amoroso denounced that some presidential candidates do not respect the
01:07Venezuelan constitution nor the electoral laws during the election process.
01:11In this sense, the head of the judicial body invited citizens and international observers
01:16to participate in the electoral drill.
01:27Today, we feel proud because tomorrow, Sunday, June 30th, we will have a simulation of election
01:35day.
01:36All Venezuelans, by the way, there are many observers here in our country, people who
01:43respect the constitution, who respect the law, who respect the Venezuelan people, which
01:49is the most important thing.
01:52We also invite them to take part tomorrow in the elections drill on Sunday, June 30th.
02:01The head of the electoral body of Venezuela, Luis Amoroso, affirmed that the only requirement
02:05to vote in this drill is the identity card.
02:11The only requirement to participate in the simulation tomorrow is the identity card,
02:18even if it is expired.
02:20Not that we are going to pass, as sometimes we always do.
02:24I have an expired identity card, so you'll hear someone out there, you are not going
02:30to be able to vote, no.
02:34The only requirement is the identity card, even if it is expired.
02:39But in the case of the simulation, the international observers will be invited and they will be
02:45able to see.
02:47They will stand behind and they can familiarize themselves with what they are coming to see.
02:54Venezuela is holding this June 30th, an electoral drill in preparation for July 28th presidential
02:58elections.
03:00From the South brings you some context, let's see.
03:03The International Electoral Council set up 1,174 polling centers to verify the operation
03:10of the computerized voting system.
03:14The 23 states of the country will participate in the event.
03:18In the capital district only, there will be 94 polling centers and 228 polling stations.
03:26Unlike on the election day, in this exercise residents will be able to go to any polling
03:31station to familiarize themselves with the voting system.
03:36The drill invites more than 21 millions of Venezuelans to learn about the process for
03:42exercising their right to vote on July 28th.
03:48Our bridge of communication has been built through music between China and Venezuela.
04:04Our allied media CGTN prepared the following material on the occasion of 50 years of relations
04:09between the two countries.
04:23My name is Xu Liang and I am a teacher and resident conductor of the Jin Fan Symphony
04:27Orchestra of the Beijing 101 School, founded in 1988.
04:33The mission of the Jin Fan Symphony Orchestra is to provide students with professional training.
04:38The orchestra is not just an amateur club for children, but represents the highest level
04:42of student orchestra in Beijing.
04:45It promotes aesthetic education in primary and secondary schools throughout the city.
04:52The role of music is to help people perfect or refund their soul.
04:56This is my perception.
05:07I have been involved in music since I was in third grade, almost nine years ago.
05:13When you practice a piece every day, the piece accompanies you.
05:17Little by little you get closer to the personality of the composer, to his character, to the
05:22spirit and the ideas he transmits.
05:25It's a, if you were communicating with the composer through time and space, that makes
05:31me very happy.
05:37According to Xu, the orchestra updates three-fifths of its repertoire every year.
05:44Besides practicing Western symphonic classics, as an all-Chinese orchestra, the students
05:49also perform Chinese classics.
06:02We tell Chinese stories with Western instruments.
06:05So we also rehearse classics with revolutionary themes.
06:07For example, Red Detachment of Women, The Piano Concerto, The Yellow River, or Ode to
06:14the Red Flag.
06:15Our repertory is a combination of Western and Chinese music.
06:19In May of this year, we are holding a concert in which we will perform mainly Chinese pieces.
06:26After talking to the Venezuelan musicians last year, we felt that their encore was very
06:31good.
06:32An American piece of music called Mambo, very fun and classical.
06:37We are going to play this piece as an encore.
06:40This is the consensus that came out of our exchange.
06:44International musical exchanges can often inspire new ideas.
06:47November last year, Venezuela's Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra went to the 101th School
06:55in Beijing to perform the first movement of Braham's No. 4 Symphony in E minor with the
07:01Jin Fan Symphony Orchestra.
07:07The director of the Venezuelan Oboe talked to me.
07:10I played him a piece I was practicing, and he gave me some instructions.
07:15Since these exchanges, we have become closer friends.
07:22The Venezuelan musicians are young, only a few years older than us.
07:27I feel that they love music from the bottom of their hearts, and I hope to work with them
07:31again, either on stage or in other ways, so that we will have emotional and spiritual
07:38resonance.
07:41I also wish to have the opportunity to go to Venezuela to perform Chinese music.
07:50The impression I got from Venezuela is that they are very enthusiastic.
07:54Their conductor seems to be young, in his 30s, but when he conducts, he is very passionate
08:00and can drive the whole orchestra.
08:02It is something very valuable for our students to learn from him.
08:05Music is a bridge between two countries.
08:08We can communicate through musical understanding.
08:10The most famous conductor in Venezuela is Gustavo Dudamel, who was the music director
08:15of the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra, and he is one of the best conductors in the
08:20world.
08:21If our kids have the opportunity to communicate with masters of that level, it would be very
08:25beneficial for them.
08:27I welcome more Venezuelan artists to come to China for the changes, and I would be very
08:31happy if they would also come to the 101 School as guests.
08:36Let's take now a short break, but remember you can join us on TikTok at TELESURINGLISH,
08:42where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more.
08:46Other stories coming up, stay with us.
09:27Welcome back.
09:50In Bolivia, the anti-corruption corps remordered preventive detention for three former chiefs
09:54of the armed forces accused of participating in the attempted coup d'état of last Wednesday,
09:58June 26.
10:00The Court of Anti-Corruption and Violence against Women of Bolivia was in charge of
10:03the procedural act in which the former military members were judged for the crimes of terrorism
10:08and armed uprising.
10:10The indicted are the former commander of the army, Juan José Zúñiga, and the former commanders
10:15of the Navy and Mechanized Division of Yasha, Juan Arnes, and Edisol Iraola.
10:20The preventive detention will be implemented for six months in the maximum security prison
10:23of Chonchocoro in La Paz.
10:30During an interview with a U.S. media outlet, Bolivian President Luis Arce denounced the
10:34military coup plotters intended to place one of the former commanders as President of the
10:38Republic.
10:39The intention was to take over the government, to be president, if you will.
10:49This contradicts the statement, which I believe is skillfully used to give an argument to
10:54the opposition, and that they will precisely try to put that issue in the minds of Bolivians.
11:02The Bolivian head of state also added that among the people who collaborated with the
11:05coup were retired members of the military and civilian personnel.
11:09It is very significant that in the meeting where the decision was taken, at 10 o'clock
11:13in the morning on the day of the coup, there were not only military personnel gathered,
11:18there were retired military officers, and there were civilian staff in that meeting,
11:22which is what is being investigated.
11:24That is to say, there are the material authors, but there are also civilians who have been
11:28behind the coup d'etat.
11:29That is clear.
11:30In Mexico, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum spoke out in defense of the Mayan train project
11:37and qualified it as unique in the world and of great importance for the country.
11:41In an event led by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheinbaum highlighted that
11:45the Mayan train is a symbol of Mexico's deep history and vindicates the indigenous peoples
11:50of the present.
11:51She also defended the fact that the development of this project provides labor benefits to
11:54Mexican workers who are participating in its construction.
11:58Furthermore, Sheinbaum added that while in the past the train service was privatized
12:02in the Fourth Transformation, the role of the Mexican state was recovered.
12:12There is unbeaten meaning in the great infrastructure.
12:15It is a symbol of transformation, turning the patient, the unsustainable neoliberal
12:22model that caused so much damage to the nation and so much suffering to our people, while
12:29in the past the railroads were privatized, which meant the end of the passenger train.
12:35With this present transformation, the role of the state is reinstated.
12:42In Honduras, President Xiomara Castro during the ceremony to commemorate 15 years of resistance
12:46strongly condemned the coup d'etat against former President Manuel Zelaya that established
12:50a dictatorship in the nation.
12:52During her participation in the event, the president thanked the 16 progressive leaders
12:56for their support in the activity and emphasized the need to continue the struggle against
13:00imperialism through the social revolution.
13:02The Honduran president also emphasized that an organized people in resistance is an invisible
13:06weapon against any threat or attempted attack against national sovereignty.
13:11She also recalled that on this important day, the sacrifice of martyred men and women
13:15who fought in the streets against the coup must be acknowledged.
13:19Today, we commemorate 15 years of the infamous coup d'etat, of the support of hundreds of
13:33thousands of men and women who fought in the streets for the return of democracy and
13:49the defeat of the coup.
13:51We honor the blood of our martyrs.
13:53We have a fast short break coming up, but before we invite you to join our WhatsApp
13:58community for our English speaking audience, you can scan the QR code on screen to join
14:02directly.
14:03Share the link to reach more people.
14:04Here comes some news coverage of blood they're making in the Caribbean as well as the rest
14:07of the world.
14:08Have a great break.
14:09Don't go away.
14:32In France, voting got underway in the overseas territory Saturday in high-stakes snap parliamentary
14:44elections.
14:45Residents of the tiny French archipelago of Saint-Pierre-en-Miquelon, located off the
14:49coast of Canada, were the first to cast their ballots in the first round of the election.
14:54The elections come after French President Emmanuel Macron called for a snap vote triggered
14:58by a crushing defeat to Marine Le Pen's far-right National Rally Party at the European Parliament
15:02elections on June 9th.
15:04Polls suggest the elections will confirm the trend as National Rally Party leads strongly
15:09with 36 percent of the vote, followed by left-wing bloc Nouveau Front Populaire at 28.5 percent.
15:16You know, we're always waiting for something to improve in our lives, especially in everyday
15:28life.
15:29We're waiting for an improvement.
15:31When you see all the prices soaring and purchasing power doesn't.
15:36So we ask ourselves questions, and where are we going?
15:40And on that score, we really want to see an improvement, and we're also thinking about
15:44our children's future.
15:50In Mongolia, over two million voters took part on Friday's parliamentary elections.
15:54The ruling party won while the opposition had a strong performance.
15:57The ruling Mongolian People's Party won 68 seats out of a total of 126, securing a majority.
16:02The main opposition party, the Democratic Party, obtained more seats than in the previous
16:06elections.
16:07When polls closed, the Electoral Commission announced a turnout of 69.3 percent, anticipating
16:12that it would reach 70 percent when the polls casted the last minutes and those of Mongolians
16:16living abroad were added.
16:18Therefore, for the first time in history, we have just elected 126 parliament members
16:33born from various industries and different voices.
16:37Also, for the first time in history, five to six different political parties are going
16:44to be represented in parliament.
16:46This is a new page in the democratic debate.
16:51In Iran, the presidency will be decided in a run-of-election on July 5 between Candides
16:55Massoud Pesetskyan and Saeed Jalili.
16:58Going to the Interior Minister's Electoral Committee, former Health Minister Pesetskyan
17:02received more than 10 million votes, ahead of Saeed Jalili, who obtained over 9 million
17:06votes.
17:07On Friday, more than 61 million people were called to vote and some 150 foreign media
17:11from 31 countries were present for the electoral process.
17:15The early elections took place 40 days after the death of President Ebrahim Rais in a helicopter
17:19crash.
17:20In Mauritania, citizens went to the polls this Saturday to elect the nation's new president.
17:29The polling stations opened at 7 o'clock in the morning local time to receive the nearly
17:341.9 million citizens called to vote in this day.
17:37The citizens had the opportunity to choose their new president from among seven candidates,
17:41including the current president, Mohamed Oul Ghezouani, who is seeking a second term.
17:46Ghezouani, a former soldier, has promised to accelerate investments to support a commodities
17:50boom and more economic growth, with many living in poverty despite Mauritania's fossil fuel
17:56and minerals wealth.
17:57Results are expected to be announced in the next few days.
18:00If no candidate manages to obtain at least 50 percent of the votes, a run-of-election
18:04will be held on July 14.
18:12I would like to congratulate the people for their behavior, but also for the conditions
18:23and the climate of positive competition that marked the electoral campaign.
18:41Israel intensified its bombardment of Palestinian civilians.
18:53The latest attacks left several people killed in Gaza City as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
18:59Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that at least eight people were killed, including
19:03women and children, after the Israeli aircraft attacked a family home in the Al Zahra neighborhood.
19:08It's been reported that the attacks started early Saturday morning and that artillery
19:11hit homes in the Suhayya neighborhood.
19:14Meanwhile, the Al Mawassi area, labeled as humanitarian zone by Israel, was again targeted
19:19by Israeli artillery hitting makeshift shelters and agricultural greenhouses, leaving multiple
19:23casualties.
19:24Last night, a house next to the medical center was bombed, causing serious damage to this
19:35center.
19:36The pharmacy, ophthalmology department and emergency room were completely destroyed.
19:41Nothing is left but debris.
19:45We were at home when we got a phone call instructing us to evacuate the house in five minutes without
19:50taking any belongings and without any prior warning.
19:52I tried to keep him on the phone as long as possible so I can get everyone out of here.
19:57We had 40 displaced here from RAFA.
19:59My relatives are all here.
20:03In Yemen, on Friday, hundreds of thousands of demonstrators gathered in the country's
20:06capital for a demonstration in solidarity with the Palestinians under attack in the
20:10Gaza Strip.
20:11People took to the streets of Sana'a to condemn the acts of the Zionist Army of Israel, in
20:15cooperation with the U.S. government, under the slogan,
20:18There will be no dignity for the nation's people without a victory in Gaza.
20:23Demonstrators praised the popular mobilizations and demonstrations of support for Palestine
20:27that have been taking place in countries around the world, like Jordan and Morocco, since
20:31the start of the genocidal aggressions against the Palestinian people.
20:34The Yemeni Ansarullah movement organized solidarity demonstrations every Friday.
20:45Meanwhile in Pakistan, the National Assembly has rejected the United States House of Representatives
20:49resolution regarding democratic processes in Pakistan.
20:51The Pakistani Congress issued a counter-resolution urging Washington to focus on pressing global
20:56issues like ending the genocide in Gaza, rather than interfering in the internal affairs of
21:01other countries.
21:02The Pakistani Parliament said the resolution issued by the U.S. shows ignorance and disregard
21:06for the political and electoral processes in Pakistan.
21:09Although the Pakistani National Assembly acknowledges the White House as an important partner, it
21:14reaffirmed Pakistan's independent and sovereign status and its commitment to bilateral relations
21:18based on mutual respect.
21:25And in Hungary, in downtown Budapest, devotees of the Hare Krishna Hindu movement celebrated
21:30the Chariot Festival, their largest annual celebration.
21:34Despite the heat, people gathered to sing and dance alongside a huge hand-drawn decorated
21:38cart.
21:39This celebration originated in the Indian city of Puri, around Bengal Bay, dating back
21:43to thousands of years.
21:45Nowadays, the festival is held not only in India, but all over the world thanks to the
21:48International Society for Krishna Consciousness, best known as the Hare Krishna Movement.
21:53During the celebration, devotees carried out special representations of the Krishna deity,
21:57known as Jagannath, or the Lord of the Universe.
22:00Devotees taking part in the festivity believe they are clearing their karma from negativity
22:05brought on by past actions.
22:15This Chariot Festival brings people together.
22:18The music, also the dance, and the cheerful celebration hand in hand, it can bring people
22:25closer.
22:26I think that in today's world, it is a shortcoming that we tend to keep our distance.
22:33We don't know each other, and we have become strangers.
22:36We are close to the end of this news brief.
