01:34Therefore, I give public notice that Buckley, Julia is duly elected as a Member of Parliament for the Shrewsbury parliamentary constituency.
01:47I have waited a long time to give this speech and Shrewsbury has waited even longer.
02:15It's been nearly two decades since a Labour MP represented the town. It's been long overdue.
02:22It's also been a long night and I would like to thank the police, the returning officer and our hard-working county staff.
02:30I recall our head of service explaining the election account is like moving a mountain with a teaspoon.
02:37I personally know all about moving mountains so the staff have my utmost respect.
02:43Thank you also to my campaign team of over 100 volunteers from Shrewsbury and from across the county.
02:49They spent so much time helping me to speak to as many voters as possible over the course of the last year and of course the last five weeks.
02:57But special thanks to the three Johns in my life.
03:01My agent, John Turnbull, my party chair, John Edwards and my very long-suffering and supportive husband, John Buckley.
03:12It's been a very cordial campaign and I must pay tribute to my fellow candidates and to our outgoing MP, Daniel Kavinsky, for his service of 19 years to Shrewsbury.
03:23Finally, my thanks go to the voters who have put their trust in me and in Labour to change the country.
03:31And to those who did not vote for me, I promise to work tirelessly to represent the entire community, to be a strong voice for Shrewsbury in Westminster.
03:41I understand there will be many voters that have voted Labour for the first time and I do appreciate your support and I will do everything I can to deliver the change that people have asked for.
03:51We won this election to change Labour Party and we will now govern to change this country, away from chaos of the last few years.
03:59There is no magic wand, but the Labour Party has a laser focus on what it will take to get Britain's future back.
04:06Keir Starmer is realistic about the scale of the challenge that we face and the practical, common-sense steps we will take to fix them.
04:13We are focused on the priorities of working people.
04:16We will fight for economic security, cheaper bills, safer streets, our long-standing NHS, secure borders and better opportunities for our young people.
04:27I believe that politicians and politics should serve the people.
04:33I promise that I will serve with hard work, determination and a single-minded focus on what is best for Shrewsbury and the villages.
04:44In short, I will get on with the job that you have sent me to Westminster to do.
04:57Thank you.
