00:00:00All right, everyone welcome back into another live edition of the Patriots beat podcast here on the CLNS media network presented by our wonderful
00:00:08Friends over at price picks and game time. It is Brian Hines back as always with Alex Barth for another offseason edition
00:00:16But we have another contract extension to break down as the Patriots keep hammering these things out and giving us little
00:00:23Details or things to talk about here and there so we're not complaining too much
00:00:27and this time it was a linebacker Jelani to vie a
00:00:31He was in entering the last year of the two-year extension
00:00:35He signed back in 2022
00:00:36but he agrees on a new three-year extension worth a maximum value of 21 million base value of 15 million that was
00:00:45reported yesterday by ESPN on
00:00:48Tuesday today's Wednesday. So Tuesday it was ported. So
00:00:51Continue to lock these guys up
00:00:52We spent all free agency kind of talking about how they re-sign their own guys and now they've shifted to these upcoming you
00:01:00You know unrestricted free agents from Andre Stevenson Christian bar more David Andrews to vie is next in line
00:01:06So we'll kind of talk about how they're still extending these guys and giving out these contracts
00:01:11But first on to vie just what were your thoughts on the player and and keeping him around here for the next few years
00:01:18Yeah, I mean, I think it's a good contract. Obviously, it's not a ton of money
00:01:21I didn't realize he's only 27. He's gonna turn 28 the end of September. So young guy. I thought he was like 30
00:01:30But plays an important role in their defense
00:01:33Wears a lot of hats kind of front seven version of what Myles Bryant was really emerged last year 110 tackles
00:01:40The the biggest thing is, you know when he came in at least the Patriots
00:01:44He was a real liability in coverage and he was a guy you could only put on the edge on the edge
00:01:49Have him set that strong side edge against the run and that was kind of it and they kept trying to have him do
00:01:54More and I never really understood that and then last year
00:01:57I don't know what he did, but he put in a ton of work and he made tremendous strides in coverage last year
00:02:04And look, I'm not, you know putting him one-on-one with Tyree killer anything
00:02:08But you need him to match up a running back or a smaller tight end like you can do that
00:02:13He can do that. And so as a result, he now wears a ton of hats for this defense
00:02:18He played the fifth fifth most defensive snaps of any player on the team last year. So a guy that does a lot a
00:02:24guy that's reliable a
00:02:26guy that is definitely one of the culture setters in that locker and we've talked about how important that is to get him for what's
00:02:32Gonna be like, I don't know maybe one and a half percent of the cap
00:02:36No brainer. No brainer. And the other thing is he is an important part specifically their run defense
00:02:42If they can't figure things out with the Vaughn Godshaw, obviously they play different positions
00:02:46But you're gonna need other guys to step up in terms of stopping the run and he would be one of the first guys
00:02:51I think we talked about if something happens with the Vaughn Godshaw. Yeah. Yeah, you mentioned the locker room like that's an underrated thing that
00:02:59You know, we see more obviously, you know being down there like good locker room guy. Good good attitude energy brings it every day, but
00:03:06Yeah, the the past coverage like for a 6 6 to 250 to 55 pound linebacker who you know loves to take on
00:03:13You know blockers and guards in the run game
00:03:15He loves to set the edge like he can cover pretty well. I think a lot of that is like his instincts
00:03:21He's a smart football player. He knows where to be understands like zone drops own coverages
00:03:25I mean last year two interceptions five pass deflections like he was
00:03:31Not a liability in coverage at all. He was valuable in coverage there and you know credit to him because
00:03:38Really when he came here
00:03:40He was just a liability in general, right? Like he was on a table in his time with Detroit, you know
00:03:45Matt Patricia drafted him in the second round. He was unplayable. He comes here
00:03:49I believe he started on the practice squad here originally and then worked his way up. Yeah, he's become a
00:03:54Really a core part of this defense
00:03:57I would say, you know the versatility to play on the ball off the ball like the miles Brian miles Brian of you know
00:04:03Linebackers was kind of a perfect way to describe him there the way he can move around and really just do
00:04:09Do everything for this defense. It was a big he wears a lot of hats and you know going back
00:04:15Sorry, do you remember the offseason?
00:04:172022
00:04:19Bill Belichick gave that random serious XM interview right before camp as we were all putting together a pre-camper on
00:04:25Call out to fire. So he said to Vi's gonna make the tea
00:04:27He basically said I don't remember word-for-word because I said Jelani to Vi's gonna make the team and we were you know
00:04:32People were sitting like what are you talking about? Like we all had him off
00:04:34I remember is it Mike was co-hosting the show at the time was a big learning experience for Mike
00:04:38He was still leaving Jelani to buy off his roster projections
00:04:40I'm like Bill Belichick is telling you he's on the team
00:04:42You'd better listen, but it did seem weird at the time and that's one where you know, they they obviously did a tremendous job
00:04:48Old school classic Patriots. This guy was misused elsewhere. He wasn't doing what he was best at they rounded out his game
00:04:55They just had him doing things he did well and he turned into a very productive player
00:04:59Yeah, I mean I was just looking back at his stats last year like 110 tackles 35 run stops and then 13 quarterback pressures
00:05:07Those were all career highs for him and then go along with the coverage stats like two interceptions five passes collections
00:05:13Two force fumbles was big with like in the turnover department
00:05:16He was just a career year last year and you know PFF grades are what they are
00:05:22They're not the end-all be-all, but he was like the fourth highest
00:05:26Graded linebacker in football, which again, it's a PFF grade
00:05:29But you know, it shows you the level that he was playing on last year. It was really impressive. So
00:05:35You can play fullback. Maybe you can play kicker too on the on the kickoff. Right? We'll still see with that
00:05:40he's been campaigning to do that, but
00:05:43It was a good signing again. It was 21 million max over three years 15 base value
00:05:48So, you know, he's not gonna eat too much into this
00:05:51Salary cap they'll still have over or around 40 million this year and we know all the space they have moving forward
00:05:58So it's not someone that's gonna again restrict you from going out and making bigger moves
00:06:02but you know for a guy who plays a lot on your defense plays a lot of roles and it's a good deal to
00:06:08Kind of scratch off your to-do list here before we get back for football in and training camp
00:06:14Yeah
00:06:15but
00:06:17I will say like they keep extending these guys. Are you?
00:06:21Okay with still like giving all these out or do you think this is kind of set in the president where?
00:06:26you know, you're gonna have everyone who's a
00:06:29Or a free agent next year kind of knocking on Elliot Wolfe's door and saying like hey, you know, where's my money?
00:06:34Do you think they need to draw a line somewhere or it's good to just keep getting this business taking care of now
00:06:40the I
00:06:42mean
00:06:44We've talked about kind of where that line is
00:06:46Right, you know Joshua Uche
00:06:49No, no new contract for him. He just signed
00:06:52you know when it's deals like this I
00:06:55Just find it hard to get worked up about because it's such a much like he he plays a role and it's such a minor contract
00:07:01it's it's a blip on the radar and I don't mean that in any offense to Jelani to via but
00:07:07max value 21 million
00:07:10over three years, that's that's nothing so
00:07:14You know, I'm not bothered by this again, I I think the really interesting one is gonna be Devon Godshaw
00:07:19Yeah, I think Jude on is gonna get his I think he's gonna get his money whether he gets any new years will be the
00:07:24Question and maybe that will tell us something
00:07:26But they keep talking about they want to play this more aggressive style of defense
00:07:30We've heard that maybe they'll do less to gapping, right?
00:07:33So Devon Godshaw is good of a player as he is as good of a locker and presence as he is
00:07:37Maybe not a fit
00:07:39Schematically and are they paying him just because he's here or do they recognize that a certain point?
00:07:44You got to start overturning the roster and the way you do that is let players go. So
00:07:48Devon Godshaw is gonna be really interesting one to me, but I don't think
00:07:5121 million over three years to Jelani to via sets any sort of dramatic precedent. Yeah, I agree there and
00:07:59We'll see we'll wait for the structure, but they could probably get out of it in two years, right?
00:08:04Andre structure yesterday or early today finally and that was you can get out of it after
00:08:102026 I think which is like right extension
00:08:13You know, it kicks in after this year. So like year two of the extension
00:08:17So nothing too major to get get worked up on but you know
00:08:20Those big guys like Godshaw Jude on that will kind of be
00:08:23Maybe where you want to draw the line depending on what their ask are and what they want moving forward. So
00:08:29That was our news July to I extended again three years 21 max 15 base value
00:08:36He is locked back in another
00:08:39Upcoming free agent they take care of they keep shortening that list and their linebacker core is kind of locked in here for the next few
00:08:44Years. Yeah as well. So that's a good core with you know, talkie-talkie was two years
00:08:49I believe Bentley got extended last year. So
00:08:52Mapu on his rookie deal so they have those guys locked in for the next few years there at their linebacker core
00:08:57but
00:08:59We can kick it over to the chat. Now. We will do a little Q&A
00:09:05so any Patriots questions you guys have about any free agents or trades or
00:09:10Look ahead a little early look ahead to training camp. Make sure you drop that
00:09:14In the chat, even if you want to throw some Boston sports questions
00:09:17We'll have a little Boston sports minute at the end so we can get to
00:09:21Everything in the chat and while you guys start even do some college football morning the end of the PAC 12 and the yeah
00:09:28Yeah, what a hat right there. But while you guys start putting some questions in the chat

00:09:57But just because the finals are over does not mean the hoops action is stopping on prize picks
00:10:02Woman's basketball is in the thick of it and young stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are making names for themselves
00:10:08Alongside the greats like Brianna Stewart and you could win up to 100 times your cash watching them all out baseball season
00:10:15Also in full swain, it's all we really got to watch besides our women's basketball or yes, the Olympics coming up. We had some
00:10:23Unfortunate USA soccer to watch but it is baseball season. So there's tons of
00:10:29Stat projections and entries on the baseball as well
00:10:32I'm picking Caitlin Clark back to women's basketball more than two and a half three pointers because she has been
00:10:37Falling out lately
00:10:38So if you're looking for promotions as well price picks has got you covered from lowering select player stat

00:11:01It's that easy over on price pick so
00:11:05we can
00:11:07Jump over to the chat
00:11:10kind of keeping it with linebackers
00:11:13Keeping it with the Tavai extension
00:11:16Some Marte Mappu questions coop asked we got some of the slowest linebackers. Why aren't they playing Mappu?
00:11:23Down there and Steven says kind of building off that so will Marte Mappu be anything more than a special teamer?
00:11:30What you kind of it's a tough guy to project a role for moving forward
00:11:34But what what are you kind of thinking with with Marte Mappu here entering your two?
00:11:38I think there's a real chance that he ends up being one of these guys and this happens all the time around the league
00:11:43that
00:11:44He got drafted. There was a plan for him
00:11:46He was a player you needed a very certain plan for but he gets drafted
00:11:50There's a plan for him suddenly new coaching staff new ish front office
00:11:54And they want to go in a different direction and suddenly the path he was on no longer exists
00:11:59So I do think he'll play special teams as to why he doesn't play linebacker
00:12:03They just don't believe in playing linebackers at that size that's always been a philosophy of theirs
00:12:08Maybe that changes this year, but based on what we saw this spring that doesn't seem to be the case
00:12:12I think he's basically gonna be in the role Adrian Phillips was in last year, which is
00:12:16depth safety and special teamer and
00:12:20We'll see from there. This is not I
00:12:22Know I say this isn't the group that drafted him and people will scream that Elliot Wolfe was in the room
00:12:26I get it, but he was drafted with a very different vision and
00:12:30That the people who the people had that vision maybe aren't you know leading the decision-making anymore and that kind of changes his career path
00:12:38Yeah, we've mentioned it before but I still think it was Bill's plan
00:12:43It was probably like Kyle Duggar walk and now you have this replace it replacement and Marta Mapu. So
00:12:49Obviously, they resigned Kyle Duggar. So that role isn't as as clear for mop who enter in year two here
00:12:55Do you think like could he be a sneaky?
00:12:58Trade candidate late there in camp or is it still like just too early to kind of give up on that as a whole? I
00:13:06Mean, I I wouldn't rule that out. I
00:13:09Mean that's and he was a little bit later for piglets essentially they did with Pierre strong last year
00:13:13Yeah, right. So I I you know, I had a bet
00:13:16I think he's on the team, but he wouldn't be the most surprising person for them to part ways with this summer. Yep
00:13:22Yeah, so he'll be an interesting guy to watch throughout camp
00:13:27Just gonna freak this guy out here. Is this pre-recorded? No, it's a 116 p.m. It's not. Yeah, there we go
00:13:35He also wants to know
00:13:37What would a CD lamb trade package?
00:13:40Look like I'm guessing it Paul to copy on CD. Lamb is really good
00:13:45it would have to start with the first round pick and
00:13:48I'm still not in the camp of giving up the Patriots first round pick next year because it's
00:13:54Could be top ten that probably the odds are favored it's gonna be top five probably so
00:13:59that would be a lot I think to give up for CD lamb, but
00:14:03It's still that's you know, if they would take a second plus I
00:14:08Don't know. I I also still don't see Dallas trading CD lamb, but
00:14:13If he was asking out what would your package kind of be there?
00:14:17Well, I mean when are we talking about if we're talking about right now?
00:14:20Starts with the first round pick because you're gonna have to prime away Dallas as a team
00:14:23They need to win Mike McCarthy needs to win even Jerry Jones, you know, how many seasons does he have left?
00:14:29He needs to win that. I don't think they're really in the mode for the future. So you have to really make it worth their while
00:14:36Let's say we get to the deadline and the Cowboys are kind of stinking it up now
00:14:39maybe you're talking about a second round pick plus a
00:14:43future second and like a high day three pick
00:14:46You get to the offseason
00:14:49Um
00:14:50Maybe they like franchise him to trade him like we thought the Bengals were gonna do with CD lamb now
00:14:54It becomes a second round pick because you're not trading a first round pick for a guy that needs a new contract
00:14:59That just generally doesn't happen. I know there's rare instances. Usually that's not the case. So right now it's a first plus
00:15:05I think you can get it down to a second plus which I would do
00:15:09But they don't they don't want that trades not happening right now. I'd be shocked if the Cowboys traded CD lamb
00:15:15This like before the start of the season I could see it eventually but not right now I
00:15:21So I I don't think it's happening right now that even if the price would be
00:15:25Enormous if you were to try to do that before the start of the season today draft a receiver
00:15:31Cowboys. Yeah, I think I did late
00:15:35Because their first round pick was
00:15:37Guyton right. I was gonna say I knew was a lineman. They drafted like all line and they took Ryan
00:15:43Flournoy in the six or nothing
00:15:46No, they're not like preparing here. They draft the guy then move on from CD lamb
00:15:51it looks like so unless you know, they could draft the guy next year, but
00:15:56Yeah, that's probably something we we talked about more in the offseason. I still don't see them trading him
00:16:02right now
00:16:04Bader
00:16:05He comes to the right place
00:16:06Like are you guys excited for the kicker competition as much as he is?
00:16:10Like obviously that's all we talked about on this show
00:16:14But it still might be the winner might be someone not on the team right now
00:16:17So that's kind of the big wild card here is when we get back to camp house Chad Ryland looking
00:16:23It wasn't a awesome spring for him, you know, Joey sly was okay
00:16:28It wasn't you know, he made his kicks, but it wasn't pretty so I think we're still kind of waiting and seeing here
00:16:34Is there gonna be a third kicker or just a new kicker?
00:16:38And one of one of these current guys leaves like that's kind of the big
00:16:41Question mark for this kicker competition and it could extend all the way through the preseason, right?
00:16:46like maybe we're sitting at roster cuts and
00:16:48We've gone through that list before of how many teams have two three kickers on their roster
00:16:52Like there's gonna be kicker movement like there was last year with you know, we traded Nick Falk few other guys got traded
00:16:57This is something that could extend in the winter of said competition might not even be on the roster right now
00:17:03Yeah, I I still think there's a chance. I would still like to see them add another kicker
00:17:08Who that is. I mean we've talked about that. I have a post-up about that on 985 the sports hub
00:17:13calm some guys from the UFL that could make sense, but I
00:17:17I didn't see anything this spring that encouraged me a ton for either guy for Ryland or or sly. Yep
00:17:26agree with you there
00:17:28Will Bryce bring back the the rec specs Bryce Berenger? I don't think so
00:17:34I think he said I think he said last year he got like LASIK or something
00:17:37He did remember there was like he missed like an OTA and then he came back with the visor
00:17:43And we were like, oh you should wear the blackout visor
00:17:45and then he made a comment like he was doing it because of the medical staff or something and then he's never wore the
00:17:51The glasses last year, so maybe something
00:17:55maybe he did get something done so he doesn't have to wear them, but
00:17:59Yeah, unfortunately, they might they might be over with um
00:18:03safety room any chance
00:18:06Marcus Jones or Isaiah Bolden could play some free safety this year. I could kind of see Marcus Jones maybe
00:18:13Taking that like that Miles Bryant role where he's just moving all over the place and you know
00:18:17maybe a little safety a little corner mixed in but
00:18:20Could you see any of those guys maybe taking on a larger role on the back end? I
00:18:26Mean with Brian with Jones, he has this he has most of the skill set. The question is tackling
00:18:31He's just small and you have to be a good tackle to be back there. I said last year
00:18:34I thought I Isaiah Bolden can maybe play some free safety
00:18:37They haven't shown us anything to indicate that they're gonna give him a shot there
00:18:40But I mean it would make sense if they did especially I mean
00:18:45You're competing at the back end of that that cornerback room versatility is gonna be key
00:18:49We know we can play on the boundary. That's we played in college and
00:18:52Then we saw him play in the slot a ton this spring
00:18:55So, you know add one more position why not but he can't just say hey coach. I'm going to play free safety, right?
00:19:01They have to kind of set that up
00:19:02At this point they haven't done that but that doesn't mean they won't just means we haven't seen it
00:19:06Yeah, Marcellus dial to it could be another guy who maybe moves back there
00:19:10I think people were talking after he got drafted like he's a little raw as as a corner still
00:19:15Maybe he could move back to kind of that free safety spot early in his career. So
00:19:20They have some options. They have some options, but is that a position you're concerned about as Gerard ass here?
00:19:26Because we've talked about it for two years now since Devin McCordy left like you need that free safety
00:19:32That you know Jalen Hawkins they signed like a late depth sign in a free agency, but he was pretty active during the spring
00:19:39so maybe that's his role, but where's your
00:19:41Kind of concern level if there's any at all with the with the free safety room
00:19:45I think it's an important role and not necessarily concerned about that specific position
00:19:49But you pay Cobb Thugger all this money you still drill peppers
00:19:52You want those guys in spots where they're able to maximize what they can do
00:19:56In order to do that. They need to be in the box
00:19:58So you need somebody deep and I don't I think the days of having a full-time free safety Devin McCordy playing
00:20:0599.9% of the snaps on defense
00:20:07I think that like that's just been phased out the Patriots were one of the last teams
00:20:11playing that way in the NFL and there just aren't that many players like that coming into the league now from from college, but
00:20:18Having a guy that when you get to third and long when you get to two minute can play that center field role
00:20:24Honestly, it'd be more like to Ron Harmon than Devin McCordy
00:20:27I think having a guy that can do that is very important to maximize this defense
00:20:31So right now the only guy that really projects there is Jalen Hawkins
00:20:35I mean Kyle Duggars real peppers can but they're not at their best when they're back there
00:20:40They might try Marte Mapu back there
00:20:42But I don't think he has the speed for you need tremendous speed to be able to play that role
00:20:45so, I mean, I don't know if concerns the right word, but like
00:20:49It's definitely something to watch. Yep
00:20:53Yeah, I was just looking up to Ron Harmon as you you said his name looking at his snap counts and like he was
00:20:59Early in his career. He was like 30% middle of his career. He was right around like 50. Give me like 17 18 19
00:21:06That's a sweet spot 17 18 19. He was all it was like 66 61 65 percent. So yeah, it's very
00:21:13Sick the majority of his Patriots career. He was playing like 55 to 60 percent of the defensive snaps back there
00:21:19I would say that's about right for for Jalen Hawkins
00:21:22Yeah, if he makes like for that role like assuming Hawkins gets that point. Yeah, but yeah
00:21:27You're you're not gonna get the 99% Devin McCourty back there
00:21:32with this current setup, but
00:21:35Another safety one
00:21:37Another contract one is Jabril Peppers
00:21:39Maybe next on your list seems like he would be
00:21:42Steven says seems like he would be a logical choice if you really want to run it back
00:21:45He's in the last year of the two-year deal. He signed last offseason. So could Peppers
00:21:53Seems like you know, he's really taking on even a leadership role and you know last year more
00:21:57So he could be someone kind of next on this list of new contracts
00:22:02before the season starts
00:22:04Look, I think everybody knows how I feel if you watch the show, you know
00:22:07I feel that Jabril Peppers at this point. I mean, that's a cornerstone guy if there ever was one
00:22:12I'd love to see it. I'd love to see it. You know, he's entering his age 29 season. Well, you know two-year deal. I
00:22:18Would make all the sense in the world
00:22:21he may want to hit freedom see one more time before he turns 30 and see if he can get one last big contract, but
00:22:28If they can get if they can get him paid. Yes. He's absolutely got to keep around. Yep. I agree with you there
00:22:34Um
00:22:37Vader has an interesting situation here for us. It's week 11 Matt Stafford gets hurt. Jimmy G comes in
00:22:43Starts and beats the Patriots Alex. What's your reaction? I'll be annoyed. I'll be annoyed
00:22:48It means the Patriots defense had a terrible game and that would suck because they're gonna need their defense to win games that that would
00:22:54bug me, of course
00:22:56Jimmy Garoppolo still has to be healthy by week 11
00:22:58Which that in itself would be something and get through a full game to actually beat the Patriots, right?
00:23:03I'll flip it on you
00:23:05Mac Jones
00:23:06In London Trevor Lawrence is hurt. How do you feel he beats Patriots?
00:23:13Especially if Drake may start and not good
00:23:17That would be very annoying but uh
00:23:20What week is that seven eight London nine? I think nine
00:23:25Hopefully Trevor Trevor Lawrence is healthy
00:23:27although I
00:23:29Don't know match. Oh, you're you don't even want to risk it like it should be a win Mac Jones should be a win
00:23:35They should know no you still you're still buying in on Mac Jones. You think the Jags can fix them? No
00:23:42Week seven, okay, you don't want to face Mac Jones. You're worried about big bad Mac Jones
00:23:49I'm terrified Patriots across the pond. You got me if Mac Jones beats Drake May in London
00:23:54I
00:23:56Don't know a little European redemption for Mac. I don't know what I'll do. We'll circle back to that
00:24:01But yeah, it would be fast. It would be fascinating and honestly, I'll just just while we're on this
00:24:07the biggest winner of that whole thing
00:24:10would be
00:24:13Where is
00:24:15Where's their coaching stuff? There it is
00:24:16the biggest winner of that whole thing would probably be Mike McCoy and press Taylor biggest winners because
00:24:22It would mean that they actually salvaged Mac Jones from what happened to him in New England and that would be a very impressive feat
00:24:29If he plays
00:24:31if he plays a few games next year and
00:24:34Plays well
00:24:35Do you think some team is gonna like?
00:24:36Buy back in and throw him a good amount of money to be their starting quarterback and free agency next year
00:24:41I think he could get I
00:24:44Don't know about like all-in
00:24:46But you know those teams were like they're not especially with next year's
00:24:50Quarterback class, which is not white like a Mike white deal or something not know a little more than that
00:24:56I'm trying to think of the example like
00:24:59Like when a team like signs a veteran to like a mid-level deal and
00:25:05then drafts a guy and like the third second third fourth round and they battle it out like
00:25:11aren't like what the Vikings should it should be doing but
00:25:15Because they signed Arnold. I
00:25:18I
00:25:19Usually have exam. I why can't I think of a team that's done this? You know what I'm talking about, right? Yeah
00:25:23The Bucs kind of did this. I mean they had Kyle Trask Trask, but like Brady obviously isn't competing
00:25:30No, no Trask and Baker. I'm gonna try Baker. Oh
00:25:34Yeah, maybe not so it can be maybe it's a team that either already drafted a quarterback or maybe a team like
00:25:41Maybe a team like the Saints is done with Derek Carr, right?
00:25:44And they drafted they drafted this past year. It's a perfect example. I'm sorry. They drafted Spencer rattler this past year
00:25:50They're not totally sure about Spencer rattler
00:25:53But they want to move on from Derek Carr
00:25:55Mac Jones played a couple good games in Jacksonville now
00:25:57He comes in and him and rattler battle it out, right or like like something like that
00:26:02Maybe even like cam here
00:26:04Like yeah, I like cam and stidham is a good one because I think that at one point was a competition
00:26:10Ended very quickly, but I do think Hampton signed too late
00:26:13They they were gonna give Stidham a chance and then obviously they didn't you know, he didn't earn it
00:26:17But I don't know that he'll get like definitive starter money or definitive starter opportunity
00:26:23But a team with a young non first round quarterback that is like just wants to make sure they're covered
00:26:30So it's not a total disaster
00:26:32That would be I think the kind of team that he looks for or he could be the other side of it
00:26:37He could be the young reclamation project
00:26:39he could be
00:26:40Justin Fields now the Steelers might do other weird stuff with Justin Fields, but he could be like Justin Fields to some
00:26:46kicks, no, Matt Jones is not returning kicks, but
00:26:50He could be he could be like Justin Fields to Russell Wilson something like that. Yeah
00:26:55all right, that's enough Matt Jones talk, but
00:26:59What's wrong season yeah, that's that's where we're at. Well Javon Baker be back during training camp
00:27:05I'd imagine like he was out there and like a limited fashion and yes days and
00:27:11Mandatory minicamp. So you assume it's nothing that serious. So I would I would imagine he'll be back for for training camp
00:27:21Yeah, it didn't seem like a major issue for him, yep
00:27:26Let's see what else we got here. I'll pull this up if Josh Allen can start week one drink may can't Josh Allen did not
00:27:33start week one
00:27:37Who they start over it wasn't Fitz it was um wasn't Tyra Taylor
00:27:45It was he did Josh Allen did start week two, but he didn't start week one
00:27:51Nathan Peterman I knew that
00:27:55Okay, there we go
00:27:56The comment says by the way for those listening on audio if Josh Allen can start week one the drink may can't drink me
00:28:01It's far more ready and a better player than Josh Allen coming out of college. That second part is true
00:28:06Josh Allen didn't start week one though, and he did start early. But look at what happened
00:28:10He was a disaster and it took two years
00:28:14One brilliant coaching decision in hiring Brian Dave all and trading for Steph on digs to get him back on track
00:28:21Like I know Josh Allen and people roll their eyes because it's me saying it. I know Josh Allen's become this great player
00:28:26I would not use Josh Allen as a blueprint. Yeah
00:28:29Blueprint is I mean the blueprint should be more guy like
00:28:38Who's an example
00:28:39Not my homes cuz not sitting the whole year. This is the full year
00:28:43I mean, I I would say Herbert he came in like early too because of the it was like one live
00:28:48It was like no that was early wasn't really sure cuz Tyra Taylor punch. Remember the doctor punctured his
00:28:54Yeah, the doctor stabbed Tyra Taylor and Leon in the lung things happen. Oh, he's like he did start 15 games. Yeah
00:29:01I don't know. I thought that was in like October
00:29:04Yeah, that was like it was but I thought it was earlier another guy who didn't start week one. So yeah
00:29:09yeah, I can't think of anyone who just sat out like a month and
00:29:14then
00:29:15Came in like Stroud started right away Bryce young started right away
00:29:19Well, Bryce, you know, yeah Bryce John isn't that the result you hope
00:29:29Yeah
00:29:31Speaking of Brian day ball though. Is he gonna be the Bills next head coach? Do you think like?
00:29:36It's a smart
00:29:38Like Sean McDermott gets fired after they lose the Chiefs again in the playoffs the Giants stink this year
00:29:43So they fire Brian day ball and then he's just back there and Buffalo next year if they're smart. That's what they'll do
00:29:48I mean, is there a hotter seat in football then Sean McDermott? Sean McDermott's? I don't think so
00:29:54I don't know if anybody's close frankly, it's Brian day ball. So yeah, I
00:30:00That's it. I hadn't thought of that. That's a good point if they're smart. They should do that. Absolutely
00:30:05Absolutely. And if not if he gets fired and they should they should make him the highest paid coordinator in the league
00:30:11Because the offense coordinator the very least because they have this weird attachment to Sean McDermott
00:30:16Sean McDermott and in being there
00:30:20Yeah, yeah
00:30:22You see you see the clip from hard knocks of bean where the other GM's are making fun of them. I
00:30:28Said the group chat last. Oh, yeah, the one that the trade one
00:30:31Yeah, who is it? The guy from the Giants is like talking to all the GM's at the Senior Bowl asking them about trades
00:30:37He says like Brandon me. Oh, you want top 10 pick? Oh, no, wait, you can't afford a top 10
00:30:42Because the Bills can't they're building the stadium. They don't have the cash on hand
00:30:45That's why they had to get rid of half their roster. Yeah, that was a
00:30:49Poverty organization. Yeah, that was a funny clip. I didn't get to watch the it was the hard knocks HBO
00:30:57The offseason Giants offseason. Yeah, I didn't get to watch the episode but there are a lot of clips going around
00:31:03I just love that one you sent it was the Panthers GM and it was the Giants GM and they were at the Senior Bowl and
00:31:10They were discussing trades and all of a sudden the the Panthers GM just you know blurts out like hey
00:31:16you want Brian Burns for a couple first-round picks and the Giants GM is like, yeah, maybe like I love how these
00:31:23Big blockbuster NFL trades just start like our fantasy football trades just like throwing crap out there throwing crap against the wall
00:31:31And seeing what sticks that was a funny clip. So I'll have to I don't did you watch the episode at all?
00:31:37I haven't yet. I've just seen some of the clips that are on Twitter. There's another one
00:31:41Where it's it's the Giants front office. Just kind of debating something in it. I got to find the quotes like
00:31:48If we lose say Quan what's our identity and Joe shown just goes?
00:31:52We've got to upgrade the offensive line and you're paying Daniel Jones 40 million
00:31:56It's not hard to hand the ball off to a 12 million dollar running back. It's like is that it that's what we do
00:32:01That's how we talk. I'm sure they're not showing the
00:32:04Detailed conversations, but that's how we talk. Yeah. Yeah. That was that was funny to see how they they talk just like us
00:32:10just like us, but
00:32:12Let's see. Let's get back to the chat
00:32:15Nelson says that the left tackle doesn't look great. Should we sign a UFL left tackle? I don't know if there's gonna be any
00:32:21Starting UFL left tackles out there considering we can barely get 32 starting left tackles in the NFL. So
00:32:30Unless Nelson you're scouting something and you got your eye on someone. I don't know. I don't think that's probably the answer right there
00:32:37Yeah, it there's just a shortage of tackles you're not gonna magically find somebody it's not somebody from the UFL
00:32:44I really don't think it's David Bakhtiari
00:32:46We've been getting that question a ton if he could play he'd be on a roster 13 games in the last three years
00:32:51It's physically not up for it
00:32:54This is kind of what it's gonna be I don't think they're gonna find some late answer
00:32:58Maybe at guard they can if it's a mess there. It's a little more friendly at guard when you look at the free agent market, but
00:33:05They're like you said they're forget 64 starting caliber tackles there might not be 32
00:33:11You're not just gonna find somebody the time to get somebody was in March in April and they didn't and that's just that's
00:33:17The decision they made and they're gonna have to live with it. Yep
00:33:22This is kind of a good one from Todd
00:33:25We haven't really talked about it. Why is no one worried about our defense with Bill and his son gone?
00:33:30We have lost consistency in the coaching and some of our pieces
00:33:34Are getting pretty old. I don't know what pieces are getting pretty old there, but
00:33:39Bill is a big loss like it may. Oh, yeah, we'll bring some
00:33:43Consistency to Marcus Covington was there. We still have Mike Pellegrino who's you know, very underrated coach
00:33:48Brian Belichick is still out there, but there's no replacing Bill Belichick, especially on the defensive side of the ball
00:33:54So we like the personnel we still like the coaches
00:33:57but this is something where we'll just kind of have to wait and see when we get out there like
00:34:02How much did Bill still have his hand in this game plan
00:34:06Like I think we were talking a while ago at Gillette and like you said like those big quarterbacks, right?
00:34:12Like he always would be able to pull something out of his bag from 20 years ago and shut down a Justin Herbert
00:34:17Or something like that. So there
00:34:20Should be a little bit of a drop-off there
00:34:22You know behind the scenes with without Bill there and we're just gonna kind of wait and see how big that impact was
00:34:28Yeah, like it's it's certainly gonna make an impact but I think Gerard Mayo played a big role in in that defense last year
00:34:35He's still there to Marcus Covington's a smart football mind
00:34:38I also think people are sleeping on just how big it is. They retain Mike Pellegrino from a talent development standpoint
00:34:44He makes a massive difference. I I don't want to minimize losing bill like they're gonna take a hit
00:34:49But it's not like they lost the whole room. I guess you just help you hope Mayo
00:34:54Pellegrino Covington
00:34:56Steve Belich not Steve Brian Belichick
00:34:59You hope these guys?
00:35:01Absorbed a lot from being around Bill and in Steve the last few years and they're not gonna be able replicated 100%
00:35:07It's unfair to expect that
00:35:09But you hope that these guys retained quite a bit and can
00:35:12Get a club because even if you get 90% with the defense was last year. You're still in great shape
00:35:15Yeah, yep, because if the offense is better, I know people they were what like the 16th ranked scoring defense last year
00:35:22Something like that how many times did they have to defend 35 yards after a turnover, right?
00:35:26I think they were the worst the worst starting field position. Yeah, they had the worst for a defense
00:35:31they had the least variable starting field position like the offense hopefully being better is
00:35:36You know improve the defense so and just like hopefully they won't have to be on the field as much right like how many three?
00:35:42Oh, yeah, I think they played I think they played they didn't play the most defensive snaps, but they were top five. Yeah, so
00:35:49And again like Gerard had such a big hand last year's in the game plans and
00:35:56And some of the big-picture stuff on defense you you'll hope they'll be okay again like losing bill you lose
00:36:03Like the biggest football encyclopedia of all time. So you're gonna lose a little bit there, but you hope with what you have the
00:36:10Continuity and you know, you still have a lot of talent on the defense side of the football
00:36:14You should be you hope you'll be good enough still
00:36:18Well, there will be good enough but you know, you think they could still put together a top five top ten unit there so
00:36:25You know do this one college players to watch
00:36:30sure
00:36:31college players watch
00:36:33left tackles
00:36:35100 well in the two are will Campbell from LSU and Calvin Banks from Texas. These are true left tackles
00:36:41They're gonna be playing in the SEC. They're elite players
00:36:45Patriots have a top five pick. They're gonna have a shot at one of these guys. Maybe not both
00:36:50maybe you see one go in the top three, but I
00:36:53Again, it's very early. Very very early
00:36:57James Pierce is gonna be top five pick Will Johnson's gonna be top five pick Travis hunters gonna be top five pick
00:37:02Those are all defense players, by the way
00:37:04so
00:37:06There's a lot remember how last year there was like no defense. Yeah, I think it's like the most offensive players taking the first round
00:37:12This year's this year's I
00:37:14Wouldn't say it's lopsided. It's it's not as lopsided as last year, but there's definitely
00:37:19More especially at the very top
00:37:21I think people I forget what we ended up doing but last year people thought that it was it could go like 10 12 picks
00:37:26Without a defensive player. I think we don't we don't get more than three. There may be somebody maybe
00:37:32Something like that. Yeah, it's the longest run
00:37:35Maybe a quarterback Carson back sure sneaks to the top
00:37:40Was it the Colts the Colts were 13, so yeah
00:37:44One of the edge rushers they picked I think that was the first one
00:37:48Again, you're gonna see Pierce Johnson hunter Harold Perkins, even though he's a linebacker. I think we'll work his way into that conversation
00:37:58So the the guys to watch a tackle Will Campbell
00:38:01LSU Calvin Banks, Texas
00:38:04At wide receiver. I've obviously talked a ton about Luther Burden
00:38:08I think he is the best wide receiver in college football, but as some people have pointed out and it's fair
00:38:14If you really want to build this thing out if you're the Patriots
00:38:18Luther Burden is a
00:38:20smaller
00:38:22Receiver now, he runs a very complete route tree. He plays bigger than his size, but the Patriots are kind of small on offense
00:38:28There's another receiver who some people have in a similar class. Who's now?
00:38:34To Toria McMillan, I think he goes by tech tech McMillan for me, Arizona who is
00:38:40Watching him is very interesting
00:38:43Because he's young. He's very young. I just got to pull up his
00:38:48His thing here. So he's 21. He'll turn 22 in April. He's a true junior
00:38:546-5 to 13
00:38:56He has some really outstanding
00:38:58Highlight, you know high point the ball physical to catch point kind of plays. He's also good with ball in his hands
00:39:04But there are some times where he just looks
00:39:07Like he looks like he hasn't played enough football. Yeah, he gets you know, he gets pushed off a routes and things like that
00:39:12So I think you're gonna see we'll see he has a whole of the year football to play
00:39:16But I think like if you were in the draft right now
00:39:19You would see some people comping him to Mike Evans and you would see some people comping him to Nikhil Harry depending on what?
00:39:25They watch so the reality is I don't think he's either
00:39:28The reality is that was his 20-year-old season. Let's let's see what he does
00:39:32you know with another year on his belt the other interesting thing about him is
00:39:36He plays with Noah Fafita is the quarterback at Arizona. It's his high school quarterback
00:39:41so he has that advantage of playing with the guys been familiar with but
00:39:45Tech McMillan from Arizona and also he he won't this year
00:39:48But for two years he played for Jed Fish who obviously has connections still with the Patriots. Yeah
00:39:54Definitely definitely definitely a player Patriots fan should be watching
00:39:57The other position I've seen people talk about or to more quick as a potential need
00:40:03Edges one, especially if you know Jude on Swan and done
00:40:07And yeah, we'll see what happens with Joshua. Okay. I mentioned James Pierce earlier
00:40:13He's gonna be a top three pick. So unless that ends up being their biggest need which I don't see how that happens
00:40:19You're looking further down Patrick Peyton on day two is a guy. I really liked last year. He and I'm going back to school
00:40:26JT to Malala Jack's lawyer Peyton. What's up Peyton's FSU, right?
00:40:32Patrick yeah FSU and then Ohio State had to edge guys that were supposed to be top 100 this year
00:40:38They both went back to school there right now again. We got a long way projected to be day two picks
00:40:43On a corner mentioned Will Johnson mentioned Travis Hunter. That's your first pick. That's your top pick if you're those guys
00:40:48I like Jabbar Muhammad another guy that I really liked in the draft last year that went back to school
00:40:54He's kind of projected day to pick Kobe Bryant from Kansas
00:40:58is another guy so
00:41:00long way to go long long long long long way to go, but
00:41:04Yeah
00:41:05Yeah
00:41:06Yeah, the edge will be interesting because it is, you know
00:41:09Defensive heavy as you as you said and they could need an edge, but I would still have a hard time
00:41:16Not seeing the biggest need be offensive tackle next year and again, that's
00:41:22Will Campbell from LSU Calvin Banks from Texas Bama has a guy up there too, I believe
00:41:28Booker is it Booker Tyler Tyler Booker Taylor Booker
00:41:32Sorry
00:41:33Bama offensive tackle
00:41:35Yeah, there's another first-round guy
00:41:39Well, so Booker Booker's kind of like he's a little more raw
00:41:43I don't think people are projecting the first round yet because you gotta see what he does
00:41:46The other guy that's gotten a lot of attention is Emory Jones. He's LSU's right tackle
00:41:50He's projected me a first-round pick flip another guy. No, no more. No more right tackles
00:41:56Get a real left tackle
00:41:59All right
00:42:01Yeah, so those are some again early early early college football names to watch. Who's your top quarterback next year?
00:42:09Not that hopefully hopefully we're not drafting one. But who do you think like the first quarterback off the board would be?
00:42:15Like Oh first quarterback off the board. It's not the best name
00:42:18Uh, like oh first quarterback off the board. It's not the best college football quarterback. Yeah
00:42:22um
00:42:24I don't know like
00:42:26I I I still like Quinn yours
00:42:28I still like Quinn yours. I still think he's an electric talent. Yes. He's a little bit on the small side
00:42:34If he lights it up this year in the sec after losing all the weapons he had last year
00:42:39I don't see how he's not the top pick
00:42:42He could also have a natural regression because of some of the stuff I said and then I don't know
00:42:46You know, like carson beck's probably the most most polished
00:42:50he's probably the best passer, but
00:42:54Shoulder sanders and jaylen milrow are both electric like electric athletes cam wore too. So I think that's the group
00:43:01It's easier for me to tell you the guys that like I don't really believe in who have been hyped up
00:43:05I think which is riley leonard. I don't see it with riley leonard
00:43:09Taysom hill big guy can run doesn't throw the ball. Well, I don't see with riley leonard. I don't see with jackson dart
00:43:16I don't see it with kade club nick
00:43:18um
00:43:19I wish I still saw it with kj jefferson. I don't he just had a really bad year last year. Maybe he bounces back
00:43:25um
00:43:26I I everybody remembers last year like I was kind of in on most of the quarterbacks this year
00:43:30I'm out on most of the quarterbacks
00:43:32um
00:43:33I don't know if I said drew aller could not be more out on drew aller. He shouldn't go to the draft this year
00:43:37I I just don't think he's gonna have the year. He's gonna is he gonna be your jj mccarthy this year?
00:43:42Oh god, he's so there's so much jj mccarthy in him
00:43:46There's so much jj mccarthy in him in less. I mean are people going to be annoying enough? Um
00:43:52What's his name?
00:43:54The other the other half of the the big 10 quarterback failure. He went to now he's in syracuse. Why am I blanking?
00:44:00The cord. Yeah. Yeah. Well at least
00:44:04Accord to me or just let down city
00:44:06Penn state's not gonna win the national championship and go undefeated
00:44:10So we're not gonna have to hear about how drew aller is a winner at least so hopefully that deters
00:44:15Uh some of that conversation I still like carson back. Um
00:44:21He's not like carson. Beck's just not the most like mo like he's not chador sanders
00:44:25He can't move like that, but this will be a big year because you know, we've lost laden mcconkie. He lost
00:44:31brock bowers, so
00:44:33Now it's kind of on him. I'm sure george still has some top tier
00:44:37Talent there but like it's younger guys. So now he might kind of have to elevate them. That'll be interesting
00:44:42It's just I I feel like he doesn't have
00:44:47And here we go with this thing again
00:44:50Like does he have the ceiling
00:44:52of shitter sanders or cam
00:44:55right, and I I don't want to do the mac jones justin fields thing because
00:45:00Cam ward's bigger not cam ward. Uh, carson beck's bigger than mac jones. He has a bigger arm
00:45:06but the mobility similar and again that like
00:45:08In a way carson beck
00:45:10I don't want to say he reminds me of kyle trask
00:45:12But I remember hearing this about kyle trask going into that draft
00:45:16And it made a lot of sense and I feel kind of the same way about carson beck because kyle trask was like six four
00:45:22230
00:45:24big arm
00:45:25Accurate enough. He was like such a 90s early 2000s quarterback. And I remember somebody saying if the draft was 20 years ago
00:45:33If this class was 20 years ago kyle mccord's
00:45:36Kyle mccord's
00:45:37Uh, uh top 10 pick and there's not kyle mccord
00:45:40Kyle trask is a top 10 pick and there's no question about it
00:45:43And that made a lot of sense because the way the quarterback position was viewed back then
00:45:47Like it makes a lot of sense. I feel the same way about carson beck now his game is better
00:45:53Than trask's was at florida
00:45:55You know when I look at at carson beck, I actually see some matthew stafford
00:46:00Who was the first overall pick but that was in 2009?
00:46:03That was a whole generation ago and the quarterback position is evaluated so differently now
00:46:09So like carson beck, I think would be a solid nfl quarterback even potentially have that like a plus
00:46:16right, but the area team back to that whole conversation we had in
00:46:21October november december january
00:46:24It's going to be how fun is going to be to do this without us being the stakes and just to do this for fun
00:46:29I'm looking forward to it
00:46:31But and it's a fun class. It's not as good every other team can decide
00:46:34Yeah, every other team but like does carson beck have the ceiling shoulder sanders does does he have the ceiling?
00:46:40Cameron ward does i'd even throw quinn ewers in there. Does he have the ceiling quinn ewers does definitely has the floor
00:46:46Definitely has the floor. He's got nfl size. It's got a big arm
00:46:51He plays very composed all of that, but there are just certain things that are becoming a part of the modern nfl
00:46:58That he's really never going to be able to do
00:47:01And our team's going to look at that and say we don't want him because we want to be able to do these things
00:47:07So that's that's why i'm torn like that doesn't mean he can't be even the first overall pick
00:47:11That's just why i'm i'm torn on him. Yep
00:47:14Now I get that I get that with him
00:47:16My uh, one dark horse though is connor wegman. Have you watched him texas a&m? I know he was hurt
00:47:21I've heard a lot about him. I haven't watched a ton of him
00:47:23I watched like a little bit of him and he didn't play that much because he was hurt last year
00:47:27But like if you want a guy with a big arm and like aggressive like he's throwing that thing all over the yard
00:47:33like that's connor wegman, so
00:47:36Uh, I don't know what texas a&m's offense is looking like this year. Uh, if he's probably not great
00:47:41Yeah, if he's got any playmakers he can throw too, but he's someone who he's got the traits that we all we all talk about
00:47:47so he's someone that was that was kind of interesting, but
00:47:51So your dark horse quarterback is currently 78 on the big board
00:47:55I'll give you my dark horse quarterback. I got to scroll all the way down to 615. Oh my gosh
00:48:02Hey, he's big name dj
00:48:04uyungle
00:48:06florida state
00:48:08This kid had a ton of potential dabbo sweeney ruined them
00:48:12Went to oregon state last year started the season well and then kind of fell off
00:48:16But in oregon state was the top 15 team for most of the year last year
00:48:21Now he's in the acc. He's not going to have a ton of competition
00:48:26Maybe we kind of see what all the hype was about like could he have
00:48:31Like he's kind of a similar vote to spencer rattler where spencer rattler was a top quarterback recruit dj uyungle like
00:48:38Top quarterback recruit that just never materialized
00:48:41Transfer programs got a change of scenery and you saw rather last year
00:48:44People didn't think he was going to be drafted at this time last year and he ended up being the what six quarterback off
00:48:49the board
00:48:50But there were things that rattler, you know his size some of the stuff from his path. He was just never going to be able to
00:48:56get over
00:48:58dj uyungle doesn't have that baggage
00:49:01that for better or worse, I bagged just kind of a weird way to phrase it, but
00:49:06He's more of a prototype nfl quarterback in terms of the uncoachables
00:49:11So if he can come out of florida state and start slinging the ball around running around the yard
00:49:16I think he's somebody that
00:49:18There's always one or two of these guys right to start the year projected late round pick undrafted that boom come november
00:49:24We're talking a lot about
00:49:26Dj uyungle is a guy i'm certainly watching in that regard. Yeah
00:49:31Okay. Okay. So those are our dark horse quarterbacks that we're not drafting. I mean, that's one I could go grace and mccall
00:49:38Well, we'll be so here's the thing about that. And I know we're kind of going on and on about this, but it's interesting
00:49:46Packer way
00:49:47Draft a quarterback every other year if not every year they want to keep that position stocked
00:49:53I I don't know how much we're going to be talking about carson back or shoulder sanders or any of those guys, but
00:49:59uh, you're not using a
00:50:01Top 100 pick right preferably probably not a top 150 pick on a quarterback next well
00:50:06Like fringe one fourth round if you have like a late fourth, right where they took bailey's happy happy. Yeah
00:50:12Yeah, so connor wegman is projected a little higher right now, but he could be in that range
00:50:16I mentioned noah fafita who they're going to kind of have some inside info on from jed fish
00:50:21He's a guy who could be in that range and these guys further jayden jalen daniels kj jefferson
00:50:26grayson mccall
00:50:28um, you know if he doesn't rise up dj dj uyungle
00:50:32Especially if the joe milton experiment just turns out to be nothing and he's off the team, you know, brady cook's another one
00:50:38although I think he could be a sleeper he could be a riser like
00:50:42We are going to do quarterbacks during the draft this year
00:50:44We are because there's a real chance you're going to take one
00:50:46We're just going to be talking about the day three guys rather than the first round guys
00:50:51graham mertz
00:50:52Oh, please. No
00:50:54Oh, dear, please. No
00:50:55Absolutely, not they'll just replace bailey's happy with graham mertz on the they'll replace bailey's happy with significantly worse bailey's happy
00:51:03I was just made mcnamara. You want to you want to do kate mcnamara?
00:51:07I'm good brett gabbert
00:51:13Uh
00:51:14Dylan gabriel is that low 793? Yeah, it's so early. I just noticed that so is well cam rising somebody
00:51:20I if cam rising doesn't have like a massive season
00:51:23He's projected to go in like the 150 range. I'll be pounding the table for cam rising that dude is a freaking baller
00:51:29That that's a guy I want in the room
00:51:31I don't know how much I want him playing but that's a guy I want in the room
00:51:34Which is kind of the guy we're talking about the patriot state. Honestly. Yeah, that's what that's what we kind of need. So
00:51:39Yeah, we'll do quarterbacks not high which i'm looking forward to we don't have to do that discussion again
00:51:45hopefully for a long long time, but
00:51:48Uh, we'll be talking about you know quarterbacks those those later round options, especially how it shakes out with joe milton over here
00:51:55uh over the next two months, but
00:51:57Uh, cody asked another one madden or college football 25
00:52:01obviously college football
00:52:0325 and
00:52:04If college football 25, which it is what team are you playing as we talked about that a little?
00:52:09Uh last week, I think we brought out that that tier chart that was going around on twitter
00:52:14uh
00:52:15I don't know. I haven't I haven't decided yet. I like coastal the fields the the playbooks fun
00:52:20I don't know if that's where i'll start though
00:52:22I'm, probably gonna do road to glory first
00:52:24So whichever team gives me the most money in nils who i'll be playing with
00:52:28I I if you read the the dynasty deep dive yesterday, which was I mean super nerdy
00:52:32But so freaking cool the the depths they went into
00:52:36It's gonna be really really really hard
00:52:39To take a group of five school or even some lesser power four programs
00:52:44And turn them into champions. Um
00:52:47even where you start because like you're gonna have
00:52:52like coaches
00:52:53Are gonna be specialist recruiting in a certain part of the country
00:52:56So you may think it's fun to start a umass, but now that's where your recruiting specialty is
00:53:01And that doesn't help you because something else they talked about in there
00:53:05they went through the real world data and lined it up so that not all the time there'll always be exceptions, but like
00:53:11The geographic recruiting is going to reflect real world trends
00:53:15So the top quarterbacks mostly are going to be southern california texas and the carolinas
00:53:21They even broke it down within positions. So they were talking about like receiver right east texas florida
00:53:28that's where all the good receivers come from but
00:53:31They said the east texas the east there's a type of receiver in east texas
00:53:35Mike evans is from galveston and that's that
00:53:38East texas is big
00:53:40dog
00:53:41Jump ball widers in east texas into like, you know
00:53:43Western louisiana and that where south florida like tyree kill is from pop douglas is from you get a smaller quick, right?
00:53:50And the historic trends like there are geographic trends within this and those are reflected in the game
00:53:55So you started at umass? That's fine
00:53:58But now you're at like, you know another school and you want to recruit receivers and I mean you still can they don't make anything
00:54:03impossible, but
00:54:04Boy, I want to have that bonus in east texas
00:54:06I don't want to have it in east boston. You know what I mean?
00:54:09Actually east boston gave us wiggy, but you know what i'm talking about. So um
00:54:14I you know, I want mike evans
00:54:15So it's it's going to be really interesting to see like I think
00:54:18If you want to do the small school, you're really going to have to challenge yourself
00:54:21Yeah, I don't want to have I don't want to have east denim as my recruiting area and have to recruit my catholic
00:54:30Yeah, literally
00:54:32um
00:54:33it'll be fun though like dming recruits and
00:54:37you can stalk their social medias and stuff like that and
00:54:41I saw like
00:54:43Recruits can verbally commit. So does that mean they can like then decommit too? So the way it works is
00:54:49So there's like four I think it's like 14 categories that your school is like graded on right?
00:54:53And it's like proximity to home playing time program prestige coach prestige academics
00:54:58Which did you see how mad people got over the academic ratings in the video game?
00:55:03Hilarious, uh, but there's a uh
00:55:07Anyway, there's like all these grades and certain recruits value certain things
00:55:12So if your recruit did values like program prestige
00:55:17If your program prestige isn't good
00:55:19You're probably not gonna be able to land that guy or it's gonna take you a lot more to do it
00:55:22But though outside of I think obviously proximity at home can't change
00:55:27Academic standing can't change and I think there's like one or two others that can't but a lot of them are fluid. They're dynamic
00:55:32they can change so if
00:55:35a recruit like let's say
00:55:37you know, um
00:55:39championship like
00:55:41Recruit runs play for championship contender, right?
00:55:43And he verbally commits to you early after you start like five and oh
00:55:47And then you lose four in a row
00:55:49Your championship contender grade goes down now. Maybe you don't meet his requirements anymore
00:55:54And he's going to decommit or even what they added once these guys commit they still maintain those priorities
00:56:02So if you don't maintain them while they're there
00:56:04boom transfer portal
00:56:06Like it's insane. It's it's insane how deep and realistic they got it's unbelievable
00:56:11And the one thing about the old game as fun as it is
00:56:13It got really really really repetitive because you just maxed out your coach and you could land anybody you wanted
00:56:19They did a great job of making sure like depending on where you start what school you're at
00:56:23Like it's all gonna feel super different. Yeah, and it seems like it's gonna be like a challenge
00:56:29You can't just go to yeah, you know a mac school and just be a
00:56:33National champion in two years or whatever. It's right. You can do it, but you're gonna have to really know what you're doing
00:56:40Yeah
00:56:41So it's it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun
00:56:45Someone asked me, uh xbox or ps5. I still gotta you gotta get on xbox
00:56:50Well, i'm a playstation guy. I've always been a playstation guy. So it's it's probably gonna be
00:56:55Ps5 but but I don't think we need to do like a patriots not patriots beat the show like the
00:57:02Do they have a lns dynasty?
00:57:04I don't think dynasties on crossplay play now is but I don't think I don't hold me to that
00:57:09But I don't think dynasty is i'm pretty sure taylor has an xbox
00:57:13okay, so we'll have to
00:57:14Yes, you taylor has but do a little more research into that. But
00:57:19Yeah, I was leaning i'm i've always been a playstation guy
00:57:21So I was probably gonna go ps5 every time I look at it though. I'm like, there's a regular there's a slim
00:57:26There's a digital there's a I don't know. I need someone to explain them all to me like you just
00:57:32I saw somebody
00:57:33Somebody on twitter today who's like in his 40s and obviously is very excited for the game was like
00:57:38I don't want to admit I bought a gaming console at my age
00:57:41So i'm calling it a college football 25 machine. Just think about it. That way is a college football 25 machine
00:57:4625 machine
00:57:48uh, I like that so
00:57:50Uh that game will be chat wants brian to get an xbox
00:57:53Yeah, we use the we use the chat rules like we did for the mock drafts. I don't know. I've never had an xbox
00:57:59I've never had i've gotten three friends who were playstation their whole lives and now they need to get a new console for the game
00:58:04I've gotten them all onto xbox. Really? None of them regret it
00:58:09I don't know. I'll i'll have to do a little more and xbox xbox is game pass. So you get like some games for free
00:58:14Okay
00:58:16I don't know if I could turn my back on playstation like that, but
00:58:20We'll see. We'll see if I have to I might we got a ps5 vote in there. We'll wear you down. Yeah, but we've got
00:58:26one
00:58:28two for xbox
00:58:30I think those aren't the crisis xbox is winning but
00:58:33all right
00:58:35We'll save another for xbox
00:58:38All right, well
00:58:40quick boston sports
00:58:42Uh minute and before we do that game time is our authorized ticket marketplace of major league baseball

01:00:14I thought there was a celtics and bruins question up there. I'll pull up but uh red socks
01:00:19Hasn't been great last week
01:00:21but uh
01:00:22where you at with the with the trade deadline coming up still kind of same you're you're ready to buy or as the last week
01:00:28kind of
01:00:29Kind of veered you off the I mean I
01:00:32I still think you invest but like
01:00:34Let's not go over the top. Let's not trade marcello mayor and I was never in that boat, but i'd still like you can trade
01:00:40You got all these middle infielders you trade one for a starting pitcher
01:00:43You trade one of your lower rank middle infields for starting pitcher
01:00:46You can move kenley you can like kenley should be traded one way or the other. It's just it's good business
01:00:51I just I I don't want to see him do nothing
01:00:53Even if they sell at least that shows some attentiveness. I just don't want to see him do nothing
01:00:59Yep, I agree there. Um
01:01:01We had a celtics. What other moves can the celtics and bruins make celtics?
01:01:06And celtics just brought everyone back I don't think they can
01:01:11Can they even like physically do anything else with the money they have left money? They don't really have a roster spots
01:01:17Assuming that that baylor schneierman is going to make the team
01:01:21He gets o'shea bursette spot. Everybody. Everybody else is back
01:01:25Yeah, so
01:01:26You know, they'll add some guys to summer league
01:01:28They'll probably pick up a few of those guys put them in maine. Maybe they get two ways but the celtics pretty much done
01:01:33Uh bruins obviously still need well, they got to get swayman signed
01:01:37That's one and then they still got to add another scoring wing
01:01:40I know they talked about getting the kids involved
01:01:42But just some kind of like we talked about with with mac jones and what he could do
01:01:45Can you just get a veteran wing for like two million that maybe isn't the greatest player in the world?
01:01:50Maybe he's quick like just you have some sort of presence there on that second line
01:01:54If fabian lycelle and those kids don't work out
01:01:58I'm ready to believe in fabian lycelle. I've talked myself into him. It took two days, but
01:02:03uh, we'll see my
01:02:04dream is still
01:02:07uh, they trade for
01:02:08Rutger mcgrory all-time name first of all and rutger would be awesome in boston, but
01:02:14He's like a 20 year old wayne. He plays at michigan. He wants out of winnipeg
01:02:17He doesn't want to sign there. He would be the dream i've been
01:02:20yapping about him on twitter trying to get him to but
01:02:23It would probably take like a first round pick it would take a good amount to get him
01:02:26But he's 20 years old and he's a top six winner. So I think he would be perfect and he's cheap
01:02:30He's on he'd be on his elc. So it's like 950 000
01:02:34But that that's the dream. But yeah, I I don't think they'll make anything major like swayman. Obviously will take most of the money
01:02:41uh, and then it's
01:02:43Could just be a few guys on like a player tryout like hynden was last year a couple depth
01:02:47like scoring winners with some potential there, so
01:02:50uh this roster pretty much for the bruins is what it is, but
01:02:54Um, I feel better about it than I did the other day
01:02:57I've talked myself into the moves a little bit more especially if lysell or murkulov can
01:03:03Can hold down a spot, but if they still want to completely buy me and go get rutger mcgordy for me
01:03:09and I would feel better but
01:03:10um
01:03:12I think that's it. We got a few more
01:03:14Ps5 votes in the chat though. I will say that and all right. He even says we can cross play ps5. So
01:03:21Uh, I know you can cross play like play now. It's about can you cross play dynasty dynasty the important stuff?
01:03:27so
01:03:28we'll do more research in that we'll get to that but
01:03:32Let's call it there. Uh, let's get to our fourth of july weekend. I hope everyone has a wonderful
01:03:38Uh weekend long weekend looks like the weather will be nice. So go out and enjoy it
01:03:43Uh, what's your meal choice their hot dogs?
01:03:47burgers
01:03:48Burgers and dogs wings actually making wings making wings
01:03:51All right, we'll have to survive without joey chestnut at coney island eating hot. Oh, yeah
01:03:56So who you got?
01:03:58I don't who who even else is there like matt? Who's the local guy stoney stoney matt stoney?
01:04:04I mean, that's who i've got. It's a look. It's gonna be interesting. I'm gonna miss joey chestnut. I'm gonna miss betting his over
01:04:09But it's gonna be interesting to watch
01:04:12Because we don't have to be a competition
01:04:14Right. We don't know who's gonna win because it used to always just be
01:04:18How many would joey chestnut eat?
01:04:20Oh, I don't think stoney's in it. I'm looking at the odds. He's not listed jeffrey. Esper's the favorite
01:04:25James webb nick weary patrick
01:04:29burda
01:04:31burda
01:04:32Letty patrick burda. Letty. Oh, it does say field. So maybe he's in the field. Uh, gideon og derrick hendrickson
01:04:39jerry thomas
01:04:41max stafford george, uh
01:04:43I can't pronounce that but
01:04:46I mean
01:04:47I gotta see what these guys look like. That's the thing
01:04:50well, I just pulled up prize picks and they have
01:04:53Entries for hot dog eating. Okay, so
01:04:57Oh, it just disappeared. I don't know what just happened to it
01:05:00but they have more or less you can go over to prize picks and
01:05:03Submit your daily fantasy entries for hot dog eating looked like they had a special square there before it just disappeared that one person
01:05:10Only has to eat more than half a dog, which hopefully they can do that
01:05:13So again code clns on prize picks first positive match up to 100
01:05:18you can fill out a little fourth of july hot dog eating entry there, but
01:05:22Uh, yeah, it might actually be a competition without joey chestnut, but it'll be sad not watching him there. So
01:05:27That'll do it for us
01:05:29Uh today you can head over to 985 the sports hub.com to read alex's written work at real alex barth on twitter
01:05:37Pats pulpit.com to read our written patriots coverage over there at I am brian hines on twitter. We'll be back
01:05:44Uh next week as usual two shows
01:05:47Uh to break down whatever else probably another extension at this point to
01:05:52Talk about but we'll be back next week
01:05:54So hope everyone has a wonderful fourth of july weekend and thanks for tuning in and we will see you guys later, right?
