00:00The Penang Hill Cable Car project has officially commenced and is slated for completion by

00:15The project will begin at the Penang Botanic Gardens, where 1.2 hectares of land will be
00:19developed into a three-story garden station featuring food, beverage, and retail outlets.
00:26The 2.73-kilometre monocable line will include 58-seater gondolas capable of transporting
00:32up to 1,000 passengers per hour to the 833-metre-high hill station, with a travel time of under
00:3810 minutes.
00:40At the hill station, an additional 1.15 hectares will be used for a four-story facility with
00:44similar amenities.
00:46The construction will involve only five pylon towers in the forest, with the remaining ten
00:51towers situated near the upper and lower stations and along the track without the need for new
00:56road access.
00:58During the groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed
01:04confidence that the development would enhance appreciation for nature on Penang Hill.
01:09A timely reminder that in our attempt to promote Kependera, Kepelka, this modern technology,
01:20and of course EV, we must always remember the protection of the environment and the
01:29cultural features unique to Penang and Malaysia.
01:34Also present were Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yao and Hartasuma Group Executive Director
01:38Tan Sri Ravindran Menon.
01:40Hartasuma, a pioneer in the Malaysian rail industry, was awarded a 30-year concession
01:46for the Penang Hill Cable Car through a public-private partnership on a design, finance, build, operate
01:53and transfer basis in 2022.
01:55The company has appointed Austria-based ropeway market leader Doppelmayr-Selbanet GmbH to
02:01supply the cable car system.
02:03In 2023, Penang Hill received 1.67 million visitors, approaching its pre-pandemic peak
02:09of 1.9 million visitors in 2019.
