During a memorial to remember Syed Husin who passed away on June 29, Anwar also said that the late Syed Husin did raise 3R issues, but did it with decorum and humility despite being fighting his whole life for social justice issues.
Discussion of 3R (race, religion, and royalty) issues is permissible but must be conducted with decorum, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister, speaking at Universiti Malaya on Saturday (Sept 21), emphasised the importance of addressing societal issues on campus through informed discourse, grounded in academic research and writings by scholars and social justice advocates, such as the late Professor Dr Syed Husin Ali.

At a memorial event to remember Syed Husin, who passed away on June 29, Anwar noted that while the late professor raised 3R issues throughout his life, he did so with humility and respect, even as he championed social justice causes.

00:00Thank you very much, Mr. President.
00:06Well, after that, the World Attair
00:11Convention 1998 took place.
00:14I was among the first
00:16among the political leaders,
00:18not from UMNO,
00:20from UMNO, a much larger religion.
00:23He came,
00:25asked for an explanation of the issues
00:27and said that he
00:30was committed to
00:32supporting and supporting the Convention.
00:36I remember I was in prison.
00:39At that time, he was in charge of the People's Party of Malaya.
00:42And we didn't have a party yet.
00:45We had to
00:47make sure that the candidate
00:49had to be chosen.
00:53I was in prison.
00:56And
00:57I went to court most often.
01:00I gave
01:02an assurance to Azizah
01:04and the children
01:05that Uncle Said
01:07would stay
01:09with them,
01:10to take care of them.
01:13I was still in prison, but
01:15I kept in touch with him
01:17about the country.
01:20The People's Party had a very small party,
01:23but it had a history
01:27from the time of Muhammad and
01:30Abdus-Salam.
01:34In terms of integrity,
01:36it was strong.
01:38The implementation of the Constitution was new.
01:41Many had not been tested.
01:44So, when
01:46I was in prison and I discussed
01:49with Mr. Truwad and
01:51Azizah, or whoever
01:53he was, with the people,
01:55I thought,
01:57combining the two parties
01:59would make the People's Party.
02:02Of course, there were
02:04objections from some
02:07friends in the court
02:09because they were afraid
02:10that they wanted to be part of
02:12the socialist ideology
02:14in the People's Party.
02:16And also in the People's Party,
02:18which was hard on
02:21the leftists
02:23who thought that
02:25this would destroy
02:27the strength of the ideology.
02:29But the majority, alhamdulillah,
02:31accepted and
02:33after the merger,
02:35Seth Hussein
02:37was promoted
02:39as a member of the People's Party.
02:41And of course, the response was
02:43more aggressive.
02:45And then I
02:47then talked again
02:49about his relationship with
02:51Azizah
02:53and the rest of the family.
02:56He was a
02:58loyal friend.
03:00He helped a lot.
03:02And after I was released
03:04from prison,
03:06I saw that
03:08Azizah was still the president
03:10and I saw
03:12Seth Hussein's relationship
03:14that continued
03:16consistently
03:18in the family.
03:20It was not about
03:22governance
03:24.
03:26It was not about
03:28the movement
03:30to defend the fate of the people.
03:32He emphasized that
03:34the party must
03:36put the agenda
03:38of defending
03:40the fate of the people,
03:42farmers, fishermen,
03:44and urban
03:46and city
03:48as the main focus.
03:50And of course, it influenced
03:52his behavior,
03:54even though it was not
03:56as fast as Azizah.
03:58But a lot of
04:00help, and if you look at
04:02his work and our education,
04:04a lot of it was influenced
04:06by Seth Hussein.
04:08In this country, and this is also
04:10what I emphasized to the
04:12Minister of Education,
04:14if there is even
04:16a discussion about the three A's,
04:18it is only when the
04:20three A's are discussed,
04:22it is already too much to
04:24incite the people to hate each other,
04:26to use religion
04:28to demonize people,
04:30to monopolize people easily.
04:32And if among the people,
04:34it may even lead to
04:36tyranny and corruption.
04:38Even to non-Muslims.
04:40If we fight
04:42against non-Muslims,
04:44in the three A's, what does it mean?
04:46Fight, it's a war.
04:48If we say it's not
04:50a Malay or a supporter of
04:52this IP, a war infidel,
04:54it can be
04:56explained
04:58in the lower ranks, it means
05:00people who are against the institution,
05:02against the country,
05:04and at war with the country,
05:06it means
05:08giving room to
05:10rise up and fight.
05:12Because they are
05:14not Islam,
05:16they are considered to be
05:18devoid of the spirit and
05:20identity of the country.
05:22So, of course, at the university,
05:24as citizens,
05:26it's a bit
05:30cynical
05:32why we talk about
05:34justice and freedom,
05:36then
05:38give
05:40a view
05:42to restrict a little
05:44what is freedom
05:46so that it is a bit
05:48flexible. For example, I saw a recent
05:50lecture, what was it about?
05:52The Ministry of Education has
05:54been damaged
05:56because
05:58the free entry
06:00of the communist wave at school
06:02and
06:04LGBT is allowed
06:06to be taught at school.
06:08That among the supporters,
06:10it is considered something disgusting.
06:12Of course, we have to answer.
06:14I'm not saying that we have to take action
06:16on the law.
06:18But it shows
06:20that it is not as easy as
06:22discussed. I am certain of this
06:24because
06:26as far as I know,
06:28it is known
06:30that a person who has a
06:32hard view of freedom
06:34and justice for the people
06:36has never understood
06:38the need to place
06:40a balance in life
06:42and
06:44tension and restriction
06:46on the people
06:48who use incitement
06:50in the name of chaos and religion.
06:54That's why I
06:56have
06:58conveyed to my
07:00brother-in-law, the Minister
07:02of Higher Education
07:04to
07:06immediately
07:08establish
07:10with the consent
07:12of my family,
07:14Andi and Amit,
07:16to establish
07:18Usin Ani
07:20as a chair
07:22at the University of Malaysia.
07:30And that chair
07:32I think I am responsible
07:34as a Minister,
07:36as good as possible,
07:38with Mr. Usin, never
07:40talked about his interests.
07:42It's always in my mind,
07:44this hasn't been done, this hasn't been done,
07:46the two on this side are comfortable.
07:48But because of his confidence,
07:50that's the way it is,
07:52Mr. Usin.
07:54When we say
07:56that we rule the Selangor government,
07:58there is a turn
08:00to train senators.
08:02So we
08:06give a chance to Mr. Usin
08:08to be a senator. He refused.
08:12He also knew that Mr. Usin was stubborn
08:14and I also learned
08:16from him.
08:18So I refused, he said, it's okay,
08:20it's done.
08:24And he remembered that he had to go
08:26to Parliament, the State Council,
08:28had to wear a tie,
08:30had to wear a coat,
08:32for his grandmother,
08:34had to wear shoes.
08:38So he refused, I said, it's okay,
08:40I refused.
08:42Coincidentally, he went to Umrah at that time.
08:44I told him once,
08:46bring the constitution, the State Council,
08:48pass it,
08:50present it to Mr. Sultan Selangor,
08:52Mr. Sultan Selangor has signed,
08:54I texted Mr. Usin, thank you very much,
08:56don't create problems
08:58because if you do,
09:00then we have a problem with the State Council,
09:02we have a problem with Mr. Sultan Selangor,
09:04and don't create problems, we have enough problems
09:06in this country.
09:10That's the only way
09:12for Mr. Usin to finally
09:14accept to be a senator.
09:16I bought shoes for him,
09:20he was angry with me.
09:22Then I asked
09:24my tailor to make a coat,
09:26he said I have a coat,
09:28I gave him a tie.
09:30That's it.
09:34That's Mr. Usin.
09:36The point is,
09:38his struggle,
09:40his contribution to the people,
09:42to the party and the country.
09:44But when we give
09:46this position,
09:48sometimes I want
09:50to raise the status of the State Council
09:52to a higher level.
09:54His speech
09:56is quite valuable.
09:58Not to the people.
10:02But he refused.
10:04And he accepted
10:06because he was forced.
10:08He didn't even sign,
10:10I said I agree.
10:12But as I said, if you refuse,
10:14he has a problem with the State Council,
10:16he has a problem with Mr. Sultan Selangor,
10:18and he refused.
10:20So, Alhamdulillah,
10:22if you will undone,
10:24the sub will bite.
