00:00Un jour, Henry's cat sat down in his rocking chair to watch an amateur talent show on the television.
00:23The first performer was a little girl who imitated folk horns.
00:30Then a lady made shadow silhouettes with her hands whilst playing the piano with her feet.
00:37Oh, that's clever, thought Henry's cat.
00:40Then a dog came on and did some film star impersonations.
00:44I thought I saw a pretty cat, a quite one of a...
00:49He was followed by the compere, who announced that anyone could enter the contest and that there were big prizes to be won.
00:56It seemed to Henry's cat that being an amateur entertainer did not require a great deal of talent.
01:01In fact, even a small cat stood a chance of winning a big prize.
01:05The more he thought about it, the more the idea appealed to him.
01:08Except that he was not quite sure what it was that he could do.
01:12He imagined himself as a singer.
01:18But that was not really his forte.
01:20Nor was dancing.
01:23Or juggling.
01:27He even thought about being the hind legs of a pantomime horse.
01:33But none of these things were really him.
01:36He thought he'd ask Mosey Mouse and Chris Rabbit if they had any ideas.
01:40Well, said Chris, I can play the drums and you can play the banjo and Mosey can play the whistle.
01:47Why don't we form a one-man band?
01:50One-man band, said Mosey.
01:53We're not men and there are three of us.
01:56That's a silly suggestion.
01:58But Henry's cat thought about it for a moment and said, why don't we just dress up as a one-man band?
02:04And he went off and got a big coat, hat and a large beard from out of his grandfather's trunk.
02:10And they tried them on.
02:12Well, the coat did fit, in an odd sort of way.
02:16After a little practice, they were perfect.
02:20Or, at least, better.
02:22The next week they arrived all ready for the contest and found out that they had to go on after a contortionist who'd got rather tangled up.
02:29Then the compere announced them.
02:31And now, ladies and gentlemen, Henry's Cat's One-Man Band!
02:40They played very well.
02:42And when the cheers died down, the compere came on and announced that Henry's Cat's One-Man Band was the winner.
02:49But when Chris Rabbit tried to take the prize money, he discovered that his arms were too short and it all fell over.
02:55Well, with all this on live television, you can just imagine what happened.
03:00They were all thrown into the street, instruments and everything.
03:03They sat there on the pavement for a while, not saying anything.
03:07They just thought how close they had been to making some money and then losing it.
03:11But at that moment, a passing stranger threw a coin into their hat.
03:17He had thought that they were street musicians and that gave Henry's Cat an idea.
03:22Why don't we just play here and earn some money, he said.
03:26And they started playing right away.
03:29Well, they made so much money, they just had to go off to a big restaurant to celebrate.
03:34Eh, just to think, said Mosey Mouse, from television to the gutter in one day.
03:40Henry's Cat pondered on that for a moment between cream buns and then said,
03:44Wow, if at first you don't succeed, try, try, try failing.
