00:15Henry's Cat had just seen a program about explorers
00:18who went all over the world looking for new countries
00:21and when they found them, stuck a flag in them
00:24so that they didn't get lost.
00:25
00:27Henry's Cat thought that was a very exciting thing to do
00:30and he wondered how he could become an explorer.
00:33Oh, perhaps there's a list of countries waiting to be discovered
00:37with bus routes showing how to get there.
00:40He didn't want to discover any sort of country.
00:42Some were dangerous for small cats like him.
00:44Grrrr!
00:45And others were so far away
00:47that he wouldn't be able to get back in time for tea.
00:49Then, of course, he didn't want to discover a country that was cold.
00:53Meow!
00:54Or wet.
00:56Or windy.
00:59Cats can stand anything but hardship.
01:01Perhaps all the good countries had been discovered
01:04and there was only second-hand ones left.
01:06A great thought struck him.
01:09He knew the North Pole and the South Pole had been discovered
01:12but what about the East and West Poles?
01:15Oh, I'd better hurry, he said to himself,
01:18in case someone else has the same idea and gets there first.
01:22He quickly packed a toothbrush,
01:24an umbrella, a bus map, a clean hanky,
01:28a jelly-baby sandwich and three tins of cat food
01:32and set off jubilantly, imagining the welcoming crowds
01:35that would greet his return.
01:38He was still thinking about this
01:40when he suddenly realised he'd walked down the wrong street
01:43and was not sure where he was going.
01:45He simply had to find his bearings.
01:48He licked his paw to see which way the wind was blowing
01:51but he wasn't sure if it was the East or the West wind.
01:55Oh! he thought.
01:56I remember now.
01:58The sun rises in the East and sets in the West.
02:02If I wait till the sun sets
02:04then I can mark the direction on a piece of paper
02:08and follow it like a bus map.
02:10I see that I have a talent for this sort of job.
02:14He lay down on the grass and decided to snatch some sleep
02:17so that he'd be ready to start as soon as the sun set.
02:20He dreamt of a tree in which ice creams grew
02:23and he had little wings like a bee
02:25so that he could fly round and taste them all.
02:28It was such a nice dream
02:30that when a leaf blew down on his nose and woke him up
02:32he thought he might go back to sleep again.
02:35But he didn't.
02:36He looked for the sun and it was still in the sky.
02:39Then getting out his piece of paper and pencil
02:41got ready to jot down the direction of West as the sun sank.
02:45But just as he was about to do it
02:47a breeze blew the piece of paper up into a tree.
02:51Ow! I must find a stick and get that paper down.
02:54Well, in no time at all he found one.
02:58Just right for getting paper off trees.
03:00But just as he was about to get the paper down
03:03something stopped him.
03:04It was an angry lady.
03:06What are you doing with my clothes, Paul?
03:11Ow! I thought it was for getting paper out of trees.
03:15I just found it.
03:16Ow! said the lady.
03:18If you found it, that's a different matter.
03:21I thought you took it from my garden over there.
03:24But as you've discovered my clothes, Paul, for me
03:28you may come home and have some cream buns for tea.
03:32Henry's cat thought to himself.
03:34Ow! I've discovered a clothes, Paul.
03:37That must be at least as good as the West, Paul.
03:40I'm a good explorer after all.
03:43I expect the crowds will be waiting for me now.
03:46But I must eat first.
03:48It's not good to be a hero on an empty stomach.
