00:00Healthy we got into this a little bit earlier
00:03But there's one thing that I really don't want Trajan Langdon to do when it comes to the acquisition of veterans is
00:09to
00:10Actually kind of go quick fix. I you can go quick fix and be successful, but I feel like the quick fix is
00:19Because you don't have access to every player that you would love to have
00:24But that doesn't mean you should acquire players
00:27That are the best of the group available just to make a move and
00:32I think an example of a quick fix kind of move was back in
00:362018 when midway through the season the Pistons were four games under 500 and they went and and
00:42Acquired a player that definitely made them better short term, but didn't have a championship caliber ceiling anymore
00:48And that's when they traded for Blake Griffin
00:50They played better basketball the rest of the year, but still missed the playoffs the next year
00:54He played 75 games for them averaged over 24 points a game and they made the playoffs
00:59And it was they were definitely better with Blake Griffin, and they went and got Derrick Rose
01:03They were better with those veterans than without
01:06but they weren't at that point in their careers championship caliber players and
01:11so
01:12Yeah, they got better
01:15But not to the end that we wanted now. There's other things that derailed a chance at that group winning a championship, but
01:23Those are the kinds of moves and I hear names like Jeremy Grant thrown out there would Jeremy Grant perhaps help them
01:30You know with another edition get him to 30 wins
01:32Yeah, maybe and be way better more than double your win total. Yeah way better
01:36But are you gonna win a championship because you acquired Jeremy Grant?
01:41Not exclusively and maybe there's not a player. There's not a I mean Carl Anthony Towns would be great. He's owed so much money
01:48But I also look at Zach Levine as tempting as he is because
01:52All we've seen Zach Levine do is kill the Pistons the last two seasons
01:58Zach Levine's highest points per game
02:01Against an opponent came against the Pistons in this past season, even though I didn't play the full year
02:07Played two games against the Pistons like at 32 8 a game or something and then the year before
02:12Highest points per game he had was against the Pistons
02:14So we've seen him at his best against Detroit, but with his injury history now at 29 years old
02:19Are you basically acquiring Blake Griffin again? Well a hundred percent. That's what you'd be acquiring, right? Blake Griffin used to be
02:26one of the most amazing players to watch in the NBA a guy his size and was playing above the rim the way that he
02:32Did you know off the court? It was a personality
02:34He was just it was cool when they and when they acquired him
02:37I was excited because I was a big Blake Griffin fan, but you knew that he was
02:42Trending in the other direction and
02:45When things went south I went south in a hurry and it would became a joke about is he ever gonna dunk again?
02:50Like literally is it all the hey, there's a tough dunk. Yay
02:53cuff dunk
02:55And with Zach Levine, it's kind of the same thing. He burst on the scene because he was a dunk competition
03:00maestro playing above the rim and crazy good and but if he starts to deteriorate because of injuries, I
03:09Mean how much is that going to affect his game moving forward and that's not that's not the kind of guy you want you wish
03:14Did it be?
03:15You know something like a Donovan Mitchell type player that you could acquire
03:18I know it's Brandon Ingram gonna be that kind of guy if he's
03:23Possible to grab on to but they're gonna have to add somebody to the mix and the person they add to the mix
03:29Needs to be somebody who can be around here for four or five years
03:34So it's not just that
03:35Quick fix that you're looking for. It needs to be something that can be part of a bigger core. I think the quick fix
03:42Will feel good in the moment
03:45But it doesn't seem as likely to lead to the mountaintop
03:51The mountaintop so far away that going quick fix
03:56Seems it would just it'll help you get higher up the mountain, but not to the top now not all quick fix me
04:03I like it, but
04:05You know, they've got to be guys that can be around for a while while their young core continues to develop
04:10yeah, or the players that you get that you know that you you're acquiring them because you're gonna trade them it by the
04:16Deadline and get draft picks in return or or something whatever it is. You'd trade for it
04:21down the line
04:23But I mean the pistons are a tough spot
04:25Big in trades and Langdon in particular is in a tough spot. He still doesn't have a coach
04:30Got to figure all that out, but it seems like they've got a lot of decent candidates to work with
04:35To to interview guys that have had some levels of success working with young teams
04:42Becker staff was one that was kind of interesting to see what he was able to do
04:45With a very young team and how much they've improved and there are some other names out there
04:49So I think they'll get a decent coach
04:52but you've got to
04:54rearrange the talent
04:56That is here on this team figure out and sift through it and decide these players. I want to hit work with
05:03these players are fine, but they're not gonna work with my team and
05:06somehow spin that into something better, but there's draft picks or a
05:11Veteran player that fits what you're looking for or whatever the case is
05:14You know, maybe you're just adding players to to take on somebody's massive contract
05:21Maybe it's part of a three-way deal, you know, but they've they've got to do something with this
05:26Feedback, please. No project picks guys
05:28I want proven shooters like connect or Shepard tired of watching guys that can't make free throws or hit 25% of their three-pointers
05:35Well, if you look at their young core
05:37Every single one of them is below the NBA average in three-point shooting
05:41You got to balance that out. You can't if if they're gonna build around let's say Duran and Cunningham
05:48Then you need
05:50Guys and neither of them are gonna be above average three-point shooters. You need shooters period to play with them
05:57Well, the good news is Kate has gotten better every year. These been in the league. His numbers have improved and his three-point shooting improved pretty
06:04dramatically from one year to the next
06:06Yeah, and then they bring in Vince and the coach who's supposed to be a shooting
06:11whisperer
06:12Look at it, but is
06:15Aptitude is is shooting. So if you can improve the overall shooting than that then maybe that higher is that's a huge hire
06:22Interesting you're hiring an assistant coach be higher before you hire your head coach, but if he's a specialist it is what it is
