00:00I've been still no announcement regarding Max Clark.
00:02He has not been called up yet.
00:04Jackson Jobe did get called up yesterday and Gator.
00:06It is created quite a buzz.
00:08This is a guy who some consider the number one prospect,
00:11pitching prospect in baseball. And
00:15I mean, Scott, we've been watching and it most levels
00:19he will settle in and become just a wipeout pitcher, not so much a triple A.
00:25He had two appearances in Toledo, went nine innings, gave up 12 hits,
00:29five walks, so 12 hits and five walks and just nine innings,
00:32struck out seven and gave up six earned runs.
00:37But if you look at the formula,
00:40minor league stats have little to do
00:44with major league success in this organization.
00:46They have almost nothing to do with it.
00:49Yeah. Which is kind of interesting, unless you're well, even if you're a hitter
00:53like Wetzel Perez wasn't doing anything in Toledo when the Tigers brought him up.
00:57Yeah. And and so here we go with Jackson Jobe,
01:03who I mean, look, he's he's hit one.
01:05I think I saw he hit one on one eight at spring training with his fastball
01:12through his minor league stint this year.
01:14He put 91 and two thirds at West Michigan Area in Toledo.
01:19His ERA at those three stops, two point three six.
01:23Ninety six strikeouts and 91 and two thirds, but 45 walks.
01:27He's been known to walk people.
01:29Well, that's new this year, though.
01:31He didn't walk anybody last year.
01:34So that's like a little that that's a wrinkle this year that they got to
01:37they got to fix iron out. Yeah. At some point.
01:40That's what you do with a wrinkle. You bring it.
01:41It'll fix the wrinkle. Fix that wrinkle.
01:44OK. No, you aren't in there.
01:46So the point is, does he make an impact?
01:50I think he can absolutely make an impact because he's a swing and miss guy
01:53because he throws so hard and he's got secondary pitches
01:56that have great movement and
01:59scouts rave about this guy.
02:01He's the number one prospect in baseball for a reason.
02:03And you think about putting him in a leverage situation
02:07when you need a strikeout.
02:09Here comes Jackson Joe, right?
02:11He can get that done.
02:13So I don't know if he's going to be a guy who's going to pitch multiple innings
02:18or if he's just a one inning guy or, hey, we we need to get this last out
02:22in the eighth inning. Can you do that?
02:23And then, you know, he just pitches to one batter.
02:26Of course, that's the only way you can do it is if you get the last
02:28out of the inning with new rules of baseball.
02:30But I'm so excited about this
02:33because I mean, talking to guys in the morning show,
02:37it felt like A.J.
02:38Hinch left that door just a little bit ajar
02:41when they talked to him about it a few weeks ago and said, you know,
02:44what's the plan for Jackson Jobe?
02:45And Scott Harris said, well, he's got a he's got a pitch in a minor.
02:49Still got to pitch triple A.
02:52Well, then he he got sent to triple A.
02:54And he immediately got called up to play.
02:56OK, well, he's got to go to play before he comes to the Tigers.
02:58Is it still shot? Is that never going to happen?
03:01Well, I mean, he's got he's got a lot of things to do, but, you know.
03:05But he didn't say no.
03:07And in the back of my mind, there was like this 3% chance.
03:11I'm like, is he ever going to get this chance?
03:13I doubt it. Come on.
03:15That's not going to happen. It's improbable.
03:17Well, so is this Tiger season.
03:19So it feels like anything is possible with this team.
03:24But I mean, it's it's I don't think it was the easiest decision to make,
03:30either with Shelby Miller being the guy who's going to be DFA.
03:33Now, Shelby Miller has had ups and downs on the season.
03:36But one thing Shelby Miller does is get lefties out.
03:42Lefties hit 122 against Shelby Miller with a 417 OPS.
03:46That's remarkably great.
03:49And yet righties kill him.
03:51Yeah. And he's a and he's a right handed pitcher,
03:54so he's got the reverse splits that don't make any sense.
03:56So you're getting rid of a guy who does have value.
04:01Now, the value might be from baseball five years ago more than it is today
04:05because the rules have changed.
04:06And you have to face at least three hitters in the inning the whole bit.
04:08You're no longer just a lefty specialist.
04:11But there's still some value there.
04:12So they're giving up on that to bring in a guy who can reach triple digits
04:17and get swings and misses.
04:20So the other part of this, though, is.
04:23Hi, kid, welcome.
04:24Here's the baseball we need and out in the playoffs are dependent on it.
04:29Like that's it's a huge ask for a 22 year old.
04:32And people talk about pitchers, makeups and all that.
04:36You really don't know how you're going to react.
04:40In this kind of situation, until you're in this kind of situation.
04:43And yet this whole team is guys like that.
04:45I mean, maybe not to this point, because nobody else has been
04:48called up right before the playoffs.
04:50But these guys have all they're all so young
04:53and they seemingly they're not oblivious to what's going.
04:57They know full well what's going on here, but they're young enough
05:00to to just being enjoying it here
05:04and maybe not knowing any better than to act the way that you've always act.
05:09I get it. But nobody this is a different kind of ask.
05:13This is a big ask for a really
05:16obviously an incredibly green.
05:19It is young, but you're not asking him to come in and pitch game three.
05:24Of the playoffs to start, and we need seven innings out of you.
05:28That's not what you're asking him to do.
05:30More clearly, but it's a huge difference, though,
05:32because I think typically you would think if this team had
05:36hadn't shown what they've shown over the last two months
05:39where they're using, well, they're open starts.
05:42And I think you would assume that he's coming in to start
05:44and he's going to have to go several innings and he's not.
05:46No, if your point is, there could be more stressful situations.
05:50Of course, there could be more stressful situations.
05:52I'm just saying this is one hell of a stressful situation
05:55for a kid to be handed the baseball, and he will likely get handed
05:58the baseball sometime in the next six games.
06:00But, you know, again, makeup and reaction and maturity level.
06:05All those things. I got a kid who's 22, OK?
06:09I just keep thinking about that's how old Jackson Job is.
06:11It is amazing that he will be on the Hill
06:15in one of these next six games in Detroit with potentially everything on the line.
06:19He also could be a guy gets a Sunday start because they've already clinched
06:21and it doesn't really matter.
06:22Go eat up some innings and get some experience right now.
06:25That would be the best. That would be awesome.
06:27That would be the best, best, best way to use them.
06:29So the magic numbers at six other games are going to be watching
06:32throughout the day, Miami at Minnesota.
06:36Go fish.
06:38Kansas City's at Washington.
06:41We're rooting for the Nationals.
06:42They are Baltimore's in New York.
06:47And Houston's at Seattle.
06:50Houston won that game.
06:52Seattle won that game last night, so they're a game and a half back.
06:54So they should not be discounted here either.
