00:00So a couple of michigan and texas coming up this weekend, you know, it's funny leading up to the season
00:04Whenever we previewed michigan, I kind of say and I kind of I hate being broken record stuff, but you're like, okay
00:10It one of the big storylines here is can the defense
00:15Keep michigan in games while the offense
00:17Gets up to speed can the defense carry the day while the offense?
00:21Has goes through its growing pains. Can the defense?
00:24Do the job while the offense is learning
00:27And I think last saturday was an exact
00:30Like tangible example of what that looks like
00:33Can the defense keep them, you know, they held fresno to 10 points
00:37their one touchdown drive came and michigan had a number of um,
00:41It got down on the depth chart a little bit, but they did give up the drive
00:44Um, they held them to 10 points and the offense funny thing about the offense is I think people came away
00:50Very concerned about the michigan offense michigan's last like six drives
00:55Were 11 plays 10 plays 9 plays 9 plays 7 plays 75 yards on a touchdown
01:01Like they put together drives. They just weren't finishing drives, which is
01:06Part of what you hope
01:07Is a growth curve that you as you get better you finish those drives and as the game went on their offensive drives
01:15Were better?
01:16um, but this is obviously a much bigger task, you know, we talked about how
01:20They fully believe it's real easy to get better on the offensive line because the mistakes were somewhat rudimentary and things
01:26they didn't know were going to happen until they actually got in there with live bullets, but
01:30um, so now they're in a game they see what some of the issues are and
01:34Everybody I talked to that knows about line play says they are easily correctable
01:38And the biggest jump comes from week one to week two now
01:40That doesn't mean they're going to be texas because texas same thing. They know what to correct too, and they'll make a big jump forward
01:46Texas's speed on the outside is scary
01:51But so was washington's and so was alabama's last year and the secondary is
01:55Many of the same people jair hill looked really good in his first start at the corner opposite
02:00but their speed is scary their quarterback is really good when yours they're
02:07Running backs. It doesn't look like they lost a step even though these guys were down on the depth chart
02:12um
02:13So, you know, they're they're legit and their defensive front
02:18Is big and physical they got a middle linebacker that looks like a defensive tackle number zero
02:23he's incredible and their secondary's good, so it's
02:26I mean michigan's gonna have to play incredibly well on defense
02:30And win the special teams battle is my in my opinion what they need to do
02:34Yeah, I think it's gonna be tough for michigan. I mean
02:36Texas look, this is one of the blue bloods of football. So they're going to have depth
02:41They're going to have high-end talent and they have both
02:44and for michigan
02:45They haven't had an opponent like this this early in the season since like 2018. They they started the season at notre dame
02:51Lost that game and then won like the next 10 games in a row or whatever it was before losing
02:56big in ohio state, but it's been a while since they played somebody like this this early and
03:03You know is texas
03:04Battle tested already not really, you know
03:07But they did what they had to do last week and they look good doing it
03:10Everybody knew their offense was going to be good. Everyone knows michigan's defense is going to be good
03:14This is one of these classic mashups right great offense against a great defense, you know
03:19And the theory is defenses are going to look at michigan and just say we just need to take away colston loveland
03:25And the michigan people insist if they put pay too much attention to colston and we have other guys that can burn you
03:31They didn't really show much of a downfield passing attack
03:34in game one
03:36I mean, it might make sense to come out just slinging it and try and loosen up the defense
03:41Take your shots, even if they're incomplete take some shots downfield
03:44But you know, I mean when I brought it up, you know davis warren said this week
03:49Yeah, our defense all fall camp tried to take away colston loveland and we have a pretty good defense and I could still get him
03:55the football so
03:57They think he can still be effective. Even if he becomes a focal point of the texas defense
04:01Here's a question I have for michigan fans and maybe this is an easy answer
04:06Does kalel mullings
04:08in your eyes clearly get the first shot or do you go with big game donovan donovan edwards who always seems to
04:16I just shouldn't say always it's not always but penn state last year. Ohio state. Well two years ago penn state
04:22Ohio state two years ago penn state last season washington last season. He has a propensity to show up in big games
04:29And he's got the physical tools
04:32but you know, there's this weird thing where he's
04:35Can't seem to break off the mid-range run like he he's either going to the house or it's one or two yards
04:41But there's not a there's not enough five to seven yard runs
04:45What kalel mullings has a bunch of those but do you give big game donovan the first?
04:49Crack at it or do you go with kalel mullings?
