00:00Target the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
00:02to expand the number of poor people who can benefit from cheaper water.
00:07This is Clazel Pardillas reporting for Rise and Shine, Clazel.
00:13For every 10 cubic meters of water consumed,
00:17Sinilang Manilad will receive P222 from their regular customer.
00:23But if it's a poor or low-income lifeline,
00:26there's a 50% discount, so the basic charge is only P112.
00:33But that's not the problem of Jonna's family,
00:36a four-piece beneficiary,
00:38and they're saving on water,
00:40but because there's a lot of water at home, the bill still goes up.
00:44We consume a lot of water, around 1,000 plus,
00:48so around 60 cubic meters.
00:50So we're not small, but we're four-piece.
00:54It's hard for us.
00:55We're paying more.
00:57That's what the Department of Environment and Natural Resources wants to change.
01:02Target the Department of Environment and Natural Resources
01:04to expand the number of poor people who can benefit from cheaper water.
01:09DNR is studying how to increase the current 10 cubic meters limitation
01:15requirement to receive a discount on water.
01:19The consumption of a household that is poorer
01:25compared to a high-income household
01:28because bathing is cheaper,
01:31because they're using a tub and a tub,
01:34definitely, the consumption of water is lower
01:37if it's a tub and a tub versus a shower.
01:39The lifeline rate is if you're only using up to 10 cubic meters per month.
01:43If there's a lot of us at home,
01:45I went over to 11, 15 cubic meters,
01:48but I'm still poor, right?
01:50So I think their rate per cubic meter should still be a lifeline rate.
01:55The distribution of water supplies continues.
01:59The agency approved the higher allocation of water
02:03that will be given to consumers in Metro Manila.
02:07From 51, it was done 52 CMS,
02:10from June 16 until the end of the month.
02:1322 dams in Cavite,
02:15which was approved by the National Irrigation Administration
02:19to be used for irrigation of crops,
02:22was converted to be multipurpose
02:24to receive water supplies for consumers.
02:28The construction of the facility in Manila
02:31will continue to recycle water
02:33and provide water supplies to consumers.
02:36Until 2027, we're expecting to increase
02:39this new water treatment capacity
02:43to about 90 million liters per day.
02:46So that's how serious Manila is
02:49in putting up new water treatment facilities.
02:53At the same time,
02:54the old pipes will be put together
02:56to save water and equipment.
