00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are looking at 10 theories about the future of Metal Gear
00:18Solid.
00:19We're seeing a massive renaissance for one of the most beloved series of all time, with
00:23remakes and remasters getting dropped with the expectation for more as well as the creator
00:27of the series parting ways with the publishers and owners of the IP.
00:31The future is unclear, but that doesn't mean we can't wonder.

00:43The New Metal Gear
00:44And now here with me today is visionary game creator and founder of Kojima Productions
00:49Kojima-san.
00:51Now that Hideo Kojima has parted ways with Konami, we can't see him being part of any
00:55new Metal Gear game in the future.
00:57If Konami goes ahead with a new installment and a new story, it will all be in their hands.
01:02That doesn't mean we can't expect anything from Kojima though.
01:05Death Stranding was as far away from MGS as games get, though not without its constant
01:09references and some thematic and world building similarities.
01:13Kojima recently tweeted about a new project, Fizzant, stating Fizzant, working title, will
01:17be the third new original IP since the establishment of Kojima Productions.
01:22It is a completely new action espionage for the next generation.
01:26It will be created using cutting edge technology and the best talents from around the world,
01:30both from film and video games.
01:32Many expect this to be the jumping point for MGS fans to follow the feeling of Metal Gear
01:37from Konami to Kojima Productions, and although it won't technically be a Metal Gear game,
01:42we can expect it to be a spiritual successor from a man who probably misses Solid Snake.
01:52Metal Gear Solid 6
02:08When it comes to a successful series, it's only natural that the first thing going through
02:12people's minds is, when is the next installment?
02:16Metal Gear Solid is one of the most storied franchises in gaming, but it's now held captive
02:21by Konami, a company that is sort of a shell of its former self, with the brain behind
02:26MGS, Hideo Kojima, long departed and working on other projects.
02:29This isn't to suggest that the series is dead however, as there are many theories that Konami
02:34is working very hard behind the scenes to build the writing team in order to carry on
02:38the legacy left by Kojima.
02:40The problem behind this ambitious project is it's essentially like someone other than
02:44Tarantino making Kill Bill Volume 3, and Tarantino not approving of the project.
02:49Tough sell.
02:50That being said, many people don't even realise Kojima had nothing to do with Metal Gear Rising,
02:55and that's widely considered a success in the series.
03:05Metal Gear Rising 2.
03:24One of the directions Metal Gear could head would be by creating a second entry to the
03:27beloved Metal Gear Rising.
03:29Metal Gear Rising holds the distinction of serving as the chronological conclusion to
03:33the franchise.
03:34Despite debates about its canonicity, the narrative led by Etsu Tamari unfolds four
03:39years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4.
03:41By continuing from Rising, creators eliminate the risk of disrupting the established canon,
03:46granting them unrestricted freedom to craft their desired narrative.
03:50This would allow for fanboys to not tear apart its connection to an older narrative and create
03:54new characters who can have their own rhythm that doesn't need to line up to anything previously
03:59established.
04:00When it comes to a new game in the universe with a new story, Metal Gear Rising 2 is the
04:04most likely to be a knockout.
04:07Metal Gear Solid 1 Remake.
04:15Long before the idea of a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake even being in the works, fans have
04:18been asking for a top-to-bottom remake of the beloved MGS1.
04:23There was an early leak suggesting a Metal Gear Solid remake was in production, which
04:27made 100% of fans incorrectly assume it was for the original game.
04:32It was a shock, albeit a good shock, when we learned that the remake coming was for
04:35MGS3, the game widely considered the best in the series.
04:39That doesn't mean, however, that we aren't still ridiculously excited for what this could
04:43mean for the series, with many theorizing that an MGS1 remake is inevitable, should
04:48the MGS3 remake resonate with fans and prove profitable for Konami.
04:57Stories left to tell.
04:59In the Metal Gear canon, there is plenty of room for more stories, with some of the most
05:03infamous events in Metal Gear only being covered in dialogue.
05:07When it comes to Metal Gear Solid 6 or even a spin-off game, we have the opportunity to
05:11follow our old protagonists and fill some holes.
05:14When it comes to Big Boss, we could quite easily dive straight back into a sequel to
05:18MGS5 that fills the gaps between MGS5 and Metal Gear, meet a young Solid Snake and witness
05:23the building of Outer Heaven.
05:25When it comes to Solid Snake, wouldn't we all love to see what happened between MGS2
05:29and MGS4, Raiden and Snake teaming up to save Sonny, wouldn't we all love that?
05:34Huh?
05:35Delta means change.
05:43As the greek letter for change, many players believe that Delta is a subtle message to
05:47players that says that MGS3 remake is setting the series up for a retelling that may change
05:52a couple of things.
05:54Change is not always a bad thing, and change can mean a lot.
05:57We know they're using the original dialogue, so they can't change much of the story flow,
06:02but by remaking the earliest canonical entry in the series, this means they could still
06:06streamline the story from the beginning to make it clearer, or even omit details and
06:11fix plot holes.
06:12The change seems inevitable, with that Delta hanging in the air like a conspiracy theorist's
06:17wet dream, and I for one, am feeling very wet, ew, I hate myself.
06:24Metal Gear Solid 2 Remake
06:34There have been rumours circulating since the Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta remake announcement
06:38that should this initial remake prove successful, that Konami will continue remaking the numbered
06:43entries much like Resident Evil did with 2, 3 and 4.
06:46With a Metal Gear Solid 1 remake almost inevitable based on clear interest from both Konami and
06:50gamers, fans assume Konami is working hard towards an eventual MGS2 remake, creating
06:56easily one of the best games in the series into a modern masterpiece.
06:59Of course, this will be years down the line, and by that point, they may even consider
07:03finishing off the numbered entries and remaking Metal Gear Solid 4.
07:07Let's start with 3 and see what happens.
07:17The Boss Spinoff
07:34Putting Snake into the position of a supporting character is a risky manoeuvre, but look how
07:39successful MGS2 was introducing a new lead character.
07:42Many speculate that touching these beloved characters without Kojima could be a recipe
07:47for disaster, and that Konami would be better off tackling a new story as a spinoff with
07:52smaller characters who have stories worth exploring.
07:55Players have said for many years that an MGS game set during World War 2 following The
08:00Boss and her Cobra unit has crazy potential, and it's not the craziest idea we've heard
08:05today.
08:06This project could be easily tackled without Kojima, with new characters being introduced,
08:10or old characters being fleshed out in an established universe.
08:14Even without the Boss taking the lead as a protagonist, a story following The Sorrow
08:18for instance could be equally enjoyable as he is one of the only members of the Cobras
08:22without a fully explored personality, leaving room for interpretation and exploration.
08:34The Master Collection Volume 2
08:52After the release of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1, which included for modern
08:55consoles Metal Gear 1, Metal Gear 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, 2 and 3, as well as a handful
09:00of smaller titles and inclusions, players were intrigued by that Volume 1, which insinuates
09:05that there would be more volumes.
09:07Well, players have speculated for a very long time about finally getting a re-release of
09:12Metal Gear Solid 4, and after a recent possible leak, rumours are flying that the Master Collection
09:172 will finally bring MGS4 to consoles outside its PS3 exclusive.
09:23The leak suggests that the Master Collection Volume 2 will also include MGS Peace Walker
09:27and MGS5 as a bundle.
09:29Admittedly, it's not as much bang for your buck, so hopefully the price will be heavily
09:33reduced if other content isn't available.
09:44There is no future
09:45One of the biggest theories about the future of Metal Gear is a little more miserable.
09:50With the failure of Metal Gear Survive, the first entry made without Kojima, many players
09:54believe that Konami will not create any new stories within the MGS universe and instead
09:59just focus on ports, re-releases and remakes moving forward, possibly an online game as
10:04well.
10:05The unfortunate truth, whether or not you are a Hideo Kojima fanboy or not, is that
10:09without him and his very particular way of telling stories, telling a new story without
10:14his characters could be detrimental to the company's already wavering reputation.
