00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're theorizing what might appear in CD Projekt Red's confirmed
00:13sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
00:39Unreal 5
00:51Some of the only tangible information we have about the next Cyberpunk game is that CDPR
00:56is going to be using Unreal 5.
00:582077 used Red Engine 4, the latest version of the studio's proprietary engine.
01:03It's a hugely powerful engine with support for detailed environments, some of the best
01:08character animations ever seen in a game, and of course, beautiful lighting even if
01:12you don't have ray tracing turned on.
01:23But 2077 had so many technical issues that it's easy to see why CDPR would make the
01:29call to retire its own engine and work with Epic Games.
01:32This hopefully means that there will be fewer technical issues with its future releases,
01:37and that developers can collaborate with Epic to iron out the kinks.
01:50Multiplayer
01:59Something else we've actually had confirmed by CDPR is that its future games are going
02:03to have multiplayer components.
02:062077 was supposed to have a multiplayer component until it was eventually cancelled, but studio
02:10leads have also said they want to incorporate multiplayer into future titles.
02:14This doesn't just mean Cyberpunk, but also the next Witcher games, and there's no information
02:19on what form this would take.
02:31Maybe it'll be a competitive multiplayer mode, or maybe it'll be more collaborative, like
02:35GTA Online.
02:37Since CDPR already draws so much inspiration from Rockstar, this makes sense, but we really
02:42hope multiplayer doesn't get in the way of its single player experiences.
02:56Night City
03:12We're now into the realm of speculation and theorizing about where the next game might
03:17be set.
03:18Night City is the obvious choice, being the TTRPG's most iconic setting, but it's not
03:23the only location.
03:25Other California cities like LA and San Francisco are also important in the world.
03:40It's also possible that we move further afield, to cities like Hong Kong and Tokyo, which
03:45also have their own complex lore in the world of Cyberpunk.
03:48But not every RPG needs to constantly move its setting.
03:52Most of the Laika Dragon games make liberal use of Kamurocho, making it deeper with each
03:57new release and only recently adding new regions to the series.
04:01So we could see Night City continue, but made even bigger with the addition of new internal
04:06spaces.
04:14Plot
04:24We have no idea what the plot would be, though some speculate that we'll be heading a decade
04:29into the future at least.
04:31This would be interesting since it enables CDPR to build new lore without being beholden
04:36to the long history of the world in the TTRPG.
04:39On the other hand though, could we potentially get a prequel?
04:52People loved it when GTA went back in time to give us Vice City and Red Dead 2 as a prequel
04:57even more beloved than the original.
04:59Could we go back decades and see crucial events like the Corpo Wars actually play out?
05:04This way CDPR wouldn't have to account for players having drastically different endings
05:08in the first game.
05:10At the same time, people generally liked the story moving forward, but it could move away
05:14from themes like AI to the TTRPG's other topics like nuclear war.
05:27Characters
05:41Prequel or sequel, there are plenty of characters we could see come back.
05:46Johnny Silverhand likely wouldn't return for a sequel set in the future considering the
05:50vastly different endings for him, and the same goes for V.
05:54But other figures like Rogue and some of the Nomads could come back or be seen at an earlier
05:59point in time, along with the various fixers V gets sidequests from.
06:09We still want to see plenty of new characters of course, and it could be tricky to account
06:14for the different endings available for each romance option for instance.
06:17Still, other studios, notably Bioware, have done it before in their RPGs, and CDPR is
06:23nothing if not ambitious, so we're sure fan favorite characters will be reincorporated
06:29in interesting ways.
06:34Prologues
06:43This is something we'd love to be expanded.
06:46Cyberpunk 2077 did have 3 prologues, but each was only about 30 minutes long and V ultimately
06:53ends up pretty much being a street kid regardless of how you start the game.
07:04We'd love to see longer, deeper prologues that have a bigger effect on later events
07:09than just a few dialogue options.
07:11Again, this is something Bioware has done before, but only with Dragon Age Origins.
07:17After that, it was largely abandoned despite being a phenomenal way to begin an RPG.
07:22If the prologues had wider consequences and were maybe an hour or two hours long, that
07:27would be a great way to reintroduce people to the world.
07:40Classes
07:51Just like V is always basically a street kid, they're also always basically a solo, which
07:56is the TTRPG's name for combat focused mercenaries.
08:00You can break the game by investing enough in the quick hacking skill, and the skill
08:04tree has been reworked numerous times, but we'd love to see a more complex class system.
08:09Though some RPG makers like Obsidian and Bethesda don't always have classes you choose at the
08:15beginning and instead let you specialize in the areas you want without locking off others,
08:20it's still fun to make that choice to commit to one class at the beginning.
08:32There were also some playstyles in the TTRPG that never made it into the first game like
08:37the Rockerboy role.
08:38Yes, Johnny's a rockerboy technically, but in terms of his gameplay, he's still essentially
08:43a solo as well.
08:54Cyberware with consequences
09:07In the TTRPG, cyberware has a humanity cost to install, and the more cyberware you install,
09:13the lower your humanity.
09:14When it reaches zero, you enter cyberpsychosis, which means you'll lose control of your character
09:20and they become an NPC.
09:32Cyberpsychos featured heavily in Cyberpunk 2077, but V can't ever become one no matter
09:37how many implants they get.
09:39We want a sequel to have genuine consequences for installing too much cyberware, so that
09:44cyberware has positive and negative consequences that make you really weigh up whether it's
09:49worth it to get those fancy new arms.
09:51It would be a great way to get people to engage with the gameplay, increasing the number of
09:55ways there are to actually play.
10:05Will we see Ciri in the next Cyberpunk game?
10:14Plenty of people hope so, and that's all thanks to an easter egg in The Witcher 3.
10:18While asking Ciri about her travels through time and space, she reveals that she visited
10:23a world that sounds suspiciously like Night City.
10:39Many thought we might get a Ciri cameo in the first game, but that didn't happen.
10:43We were stuck with cameos from Hideo Kojima and Grimes.
10:46We now know that Ciri will be the main playable character in The Witcher 4.
10:52Could we see her original visit to Night City, or could she return there on purpose?
10:56Hopefully we'll find out before the end of this decade.
11:05Release
11:18Since we know almost nothing about the game, we also know almost nothing about when it
11:22will release.
11:23It took 8 years from Cyberpunk 2077 being announced in 2012 to the game launching, and
11:28another 2 years or so for it to achieve its full potential.
11:32With this in mind, we might be looking at the 2030s for the next game, unless using
11:37Unreal 5 expedites the process.
11:47We're also almost certainly looking at it releasing across consoles whenever this does
11:51happen, but who knows what consoles they will be?
11:55Playstation 6, Xbox 720, Nintendo Switch 3, or a brand new platform that doesn't even
12:00exist yet?
12:02We don't know that either, nor do we know what the game will be called, but it probably
12:06won't be called Cyberpunk 2078 or Cyberpunk 2.
12:21Let us know in the comments what you think CDPR should do with the game to make your
12:25dream sequel.
