00:00 A lot of eyes will be on him in training camp, you know, thinking that this is the year and
00:06 maybe it is.
00:07 I hope it is.
00:08 I hope he, uh, I hope he goes up there and turns into, uh, you know, everything that
00:13 maybe he hasn't been in the American league.
00:15 You know, that'd be great.
00:16 Yeah.
00:17 I want to see him up because I think the trade value is so low now that I don't think it's
00:22 like he has any trade value.
00:24 Yeah.
00:25 I talk to pro Scouts all the time in Providence that watch them on a regular basis and he
00:31 doesn't have a lot of value.
00:42 And welcome into the Bruins beat presented by prize picks and game time.

00:59 I don't know, Mark Celtics are in the finals.
01:02 Red Sox are in full swing.
01:04 Maybe you want to go to a game, go use the promo code game time or promo code CLNS over
01:09 at game time.
01:10 Uh, I am Evan Marinovsky joined by Mark Diver.
01:14 Mark what's up?
01:15 Nothing much.
01:16 Evan, uh, you know, winding the hockey season down here.
01:21 Uh, haven't been in a rink in what?
01:25 Two weeks, two weekends.
01:26 Yeah.
01:27 I'm going to Mount St. Charles tomorrow though for the big alumni tilt.
01:31 So that's right.
01:33 Did I hear Higgins will be there?
01:36 Oh yeah.
01:37 Oh yeah.
01:38 What time is Pelosi?
01:41 It's really to see the roster of the rosters of the two teams.
01:47 You know, you know how good they've been the last, since they started the Academy, but
01:51 you look at those rosters and it's like, Holy cow, this, they got so many good players.
01:57 So many good players.
02:00 What time is that at on Saturday?
02:02 11 am.
02:03 I am.
02:05 Interesting mission.
02:06 I might try to, well, for listeners and viewers who are really into that, who want to go watch
02:12 like Chris Pelosi, you mentioned it'll be their Bruins draft pick James Higgins future
02:18 first, you know, first overall pick probably next year.
02:21 Um, there's a lot of, a lot of talent.
02:24 I'm sure that who else is there?
02:25 You got to send me those rosters.
02:26 All right, I'll do that after, uh, after we finish here.
02:30 But uh, this is how all our conversations go in the ranks.
02:35 Oh my God, you should see what's coming up.
02:37 And I go, Oh, what's going on?
02:38 You got to send me that.
02:39 It's our whole conversations.
02:40 Well, it's going to be good.
02:41 Uh, you know, a bunch of kids who are in division one college hockey now, uh, you know, Guillaume
02:49 Richard of Providence college.
02:51 Uh, um, you know, a couple of UMass guys, uh, it's just a star studded collection of,
03:02 uh, of alums.
03:04 It's really, you know, for years, the Mount program, the high school program has had alumni
03:09 games, not open to the public though, but you know, Brian Burrard, you know, guys like
03:15 that, uh, ex pros would show up for that.
03:19 But that, that's a different, uh, a different thing than, than what this is going to be.
03:23 Uh, and I would suspect that, uh, there will be some young studs there, 13, 14, 12, 13,
03:36 14 with the program, maybe using this as an opportunity to showcase what they got going
03:42 in, uh, in one socket.
03:44 So a beautiful spring day in Northern Rhode Island.
03:48 Uh, why not?
03:51 Why not is right.
03:52 Um, so for those who don't know, Mount St. Charles is an Academy now they're the, the
03:58 great hockey team they have as an Academy.
04:00 And basically they have a U 14, a U 15, U 16 and U 18 team.
04:05 And in each age group, they are one of the top teams in the country.
04:09 And they consistently, especially on the 14 and 15 teams draw a lot of the top kids.
04:15 So I know a lot of Bruins listeners might not relate to that, but a lot might, and they
04:19 had a lot of future potential Bruins, uh, uh, down the road.
04:23 So they, uh, it's been that way for the last bunch of years.
04:27 And obviously it's a historic program, historic school.
04:30 Um, so that'll be interesting.
04:32 Um, if you're in the area, go check it out.
04:34 And I agree with you, it's probably going to be a recruiting tool for, uh, some of those,
04:38 you know, or not recruiting, but you know, uh, say, Hey, look what you could end up becoming
04:42 to some of those younger kids, uh, down the road.
04:46 Um, last time I saw you as the mass hockey festival, a couple of weeks ago, we were,
04:51 uh, uh, we were with, uh, Jay Pandolfo, Freddie Meyer, Jim Montgomery, poor, poor Monty.
04:59 He was getting, uh, every, you know, I gotta give Monty a lot of credit.
05:02 Uh, every little kid came up to him in that, in that new England sports center, they'd
05:06 take a selfie with him and he took a selfie with every single kid.
05:10 A lot of respect to that.
05:11 It was the day after the, uh, the game.
05:13 It was hours after less than 24 hours after the season ending loss on Friday night.
05:20 Yeah.
05:21 He, he, uh, he not only, I mean, he was so approachable, big smile with the kids, you
05:28 know, it just, uh, it was great to see, you know, and I think he's that, he's that kind
05:34 of a guy.
05:35 He, he has, uh, that kind of a personality that, you know, he's open to, uh, he's approachable.
05:41 You can go up and talk to him.
05:43 So good for him.
05:44 Yeah.
05:45 Good for him.
05:46 His son was there.
05:47 Um, so very good to see that.
05:49 And obviously again, I think it wasn't even like 15 hours after the loss.
05:54 And uh, he, he went out and the funniest part, I came out of the bathroom and he was out
05:58 in the middle of the rinks and there was like a group of young kids around him, just like
06:04 with phones, like, can I take a selfie?
06:05 Can I take a selfie?
06:06 Can I take a selfie?
06:07 And he just said yes.
06:08 And he always has a smile on his face.
06:10 Um, uh, so good for him.
06:12 I was happy to see that.
06:14 Um, but, uh, yeah, that was the last time we were in the rinks together.
06:18 So maybe, I don't know if I'll be there Saturday for the Mount thing.
06:22 I, I'll have to see.
06:24 Um, but I'm curious for on the Bruins side of things, um, as a whole, what were your
06:31 feelings on this season?
06:34 I think it was a, it was a really good season, uh, considering, you know, and I, uh, I thought
06:44 that I have a tough time making the playoffs.
06:46 I thought they'd be right on the, on the bubble.
06:48 And, uh, they were certainly a lot better than that.
06:52 You know, I, even early in the season, you know, and I think we, we discussed this, uh,
06:57 numerous times.
06:58 I didn't think they were good.
07:00 I thought they had too many holes, too many, uh, you know, no number one center, uh, just
07:07 holes up and down the lineup.
07:11 And despite that, uh, they, they had a terrific season, a terrific regular season and, uh,
07:18 they beat Toronto in the first round.
07:21 You know, are they a better, you look at the roster side by side, do they have a better
07:24 roster than Toronto?
07:25 Geez, I don't know.
07:26 Yeah, probably.
07:27 I mean, they're better in areas, but I mean, Toronto clearly has the firepower, but Boston
07:34 comes down to a Boston wins, you know?
07:36 So to me, the season was made, uh, when, uh, when pasta scored on the breakaway there and
07:43 at the TV garden, um, I didn't expect them to be Florida.
07:49 Uh, I just think Florida is the better team.
07:52 I think they're proven they're in the process of proving that again against the Rangers.
07:57 Uh, and, but as far as the Bruins, I think, you know, there were a lot of positives, uh,
08:03 this season.
08:04 Swainman obviously had a, had a terrific season, uh, a great playoff.
08:10 Uh, you know, both goalies were, were tremendous.
08:14 Um, they work some kids into the lineup.
08:18 Uh, you know, uh, Mason Lowry over, you know, overcame his, uh, or, or grew, I guess is
08:26 the right way to term it, uh, as the season went on and really in the playoffs, he really
08:31 showed flashes that, uh, that he's going to be a factor in the, in the next few seasons.
08:36 That was great to see Johnny Beecher.
08:38 You know, we didn't spend the whole year up top, but certainly you, I think you gotta
08:44 be happy with, uh, with the progress he made and where he stands, uh, going into his second
08:50 year in the NHL and the guys that they kind of plucked out of, uh, obscurity a little
08:55 bit, the, the guys like, uh, you know, Andrew Peake turned out to be a good pickup.
09:01 Uh, you know, Parker Wotherspoon, you know, I, after years of watching him play for Bridgeport,
09:09 I never occurred to me that this guy could do what he did for, for the Bruins, but he
09:14 was good.
09:15 Uh, so I mean, overall, I, I think, uh, I think you gotta be happy with it or satisfied
09:25 with it.
09:26 Yeah.
09:27 They, they, they weren't real cup contenders.
09:29 I don't, I don't think I never thought that they were, but, uh, I liked the way that they
09:34 hung in, uh, through, you know, just some horrendous refereeing calls that went against
09:41 them, but they hung in and, and they, uh, you know, they certainly, uh, gave Florida
09:47 a terrific series.
09:49 And I, I think, uh, that speaks to, uh, you know, the captain and the coaching staff and
09:56 all of that.
09:57 They, they, uh, there's plenty there to, uh, to build on going forward.
10:03 I mean, I think if we went back to September with the way the roster was with what they
10:08 had lost and, you know, future us told September 2023 us and said, this team is going to be
10:16 in first place for most of the year.
10:18 They're going to finish in second.
10:20 They're going to beat the Maple Leafs in the first round, and they're going to put up a
10:22 fight against Florida in the second.
10:25 And you know, you said, and we said all the things you just mentioned of low Ryan, Patra
10:30 showed you flashes at the beginning and Swain and became the guy in the playoffs and like
10:35 all these different things, you'd be like, Oh my God, that's terrific.
10:38 Like, and, and, and obviously you want to contend for cups and the Bruins, you know,
10:43 definitely let opportunities pass them by against Florida.
10:47 And at times in games five, uh, in six against Toronto, for sure.
10:50 I mean, you know, they were not a perfect team, but I think when you look at sort of
10:54 the grand scope of it, you can't be mad at it.
10:57 And I know that, you know, obviously we have high expectations, but I just think given
11:01 what those expectations were at the beginning of the year, um, I think they surpassed them.
11:07 And I, and, and, you know, I think the fact that now, you know, Jeremy Swain can be the
11:12 guy.
11:13 Now you know, Mason low, right?
11:15 At least showed longterm flashes of being a top four left shot defenseman.
11:20 I mean, you know, um, defenseman, you know, the Bruins had defense in the past look outstanding
11:25 and playoff series before think about like Charlie McAvoy in 2017, Tory Krug in 2013.
11:32 It's on a smaller scale, but like Connor Clifton in 2019, uh, you know, burst in and made an
11:37 impact.
11:38 Um, I think low rise up with, you know, more on the Krug and McAvoy side of like, this
11:44 guy is legit now.
11:46 Like it's a real chance.
11:48 He's a top four guy for them.
11:49 I don't know if he's top four out of camp next year and we can get into that in a bit,
11:54 but you, you know, that I think the ceiling with him is really exciting now.
12:00 It is.
12:01 And you know, the, the way he is, his, you know, the way his offensive brain works, uh,
12:06 you know, there aren't guys, there aren't a lot of guys that, uh, that think the way
12:11 he does.
12:12 I don't think when, when he gets the puck and you know, some of the guys around the
12:17 Bruins, the development people, even going back, I don't know, two years ago, we're like,
12:25 this kid wants to make a difference every time he gets on the ice, he wants to make
12:30 a difference.
12:31 And that sometimes that's great.
12:34 There's other times when maybe it's not, there were times, there are a lot of times when
12:38 it's not, you know, the, the coaching staff didn't quite come, didn't quite come right
12:44 out and say it, but you know, some of the, some of the moves he tried were, uh, not a
12:49 good idea.
12:50 And, uh, but he, but he reigned that in as the season went on.
12:55 Uh, but I mean, his offensive brain and the, the way, the way he can move for a guy, his
13:01 size is, uh, is really an eye opener.
13:05 Um, and you know, one thing going forward that I, I'm sure this will, this will come
13:13 up and people will complain about it or, or projected.
13:17 And while I wish he was a little harder defending, I wish it was a little harder clearing the
13:22 front of the net.
13:23 I wish he was a little more physical.
13:25 Well, I don't think that's who he is.
13:28 You know, I don't think he's going to be a guy in front of the net that just cleans house.
13:33 Uh, so I'm looking at him as I'm, I'm happy with what he is and, and not looking at what
13:40 he isn't at this point.
13:43 You know, if he can continue to develop that offensive mindset and that offensive brain
13:49 and the timing of knowing when to, when to jump, when to hang back, uh, he's going to
13:55 be a good player for them for a long time.
13:57 There's something that low-rise can bring to this team as soon as next year that I think
14:02 they've been missing for a couple of years now.
14:05 Um, I want to get to that in a second, but first a quick word from our friends over at

15:22 Again, use code CLNS for a first deposit match of up to $100.
15:29 Prize picks, pick more, pick less.
15:31 It's that easy.
15:32 Now, let's get back to the show.
15:34 So one of the big issues the Bruins had in the playoffs and throughout the season was
15:38 the power play, um, and especially Charlie McAvoy running it, uh, at the top.
15:45 And there were, you know, question marks about that and they had some issues with that.
15:49 I think your potential future power play quarterback for that first unit probably should be low
15:57 rye.
15:58 I mean, given the way he plays, uh, I know, I don't know if I've, I probably talked about
16:01 this with you, but like McAvoy has so many duties in terms of penalty killing, hard five
16:07 on five matchups, playing physical.
16:10 Um, I know he's the highest paid defense when they have, but if you can take the power play
16:16 off his plate a little bit and give it to low rye, I think you see dividends there as
16:20 soon as next year.
16:22 I agree.
16:24 I think, uh, that, uh, you know, Charlie, you know, let's face it a lot of the time
16:33 he's, you know, you, you, you want more from him on the power play.
16:37 You want more from the power play and maybe it starts with him.
16:41 So, you know, having low rye, maybe take over those duties or kind of ease into them maybe
16:48 at the start of next year could be, uh, could be a positive and, you know, having too much
16:55 on his plate, you know, Charlie, I mean, so Ray Bork was a guy who did it all right.
17:02 He defended, he was on the power play.
17:04 He drove the offense from, from the back end, you know, and what is a hall of famer, obviously,
17:11 but, uh, you know, should we be, why, why should we expect Charlie McAvoy to, you know,
17:19 to reach that level or to, you know, to get to that, that point?
17:24 He's a terrific player, uh, and just entering the prime of his career.
17:30 He doesn't have to be Ray Bork.
17:31 He doesn't have to be, you know, an all timer, uh, in terms of doing everything, defending,
17:38 driving offense, all of it, uh, leadership, you know, let him, uh, take that power play
17:45 off his plate and, uh, see if that, you know, that, that might help him and it might help
17:50 the power play.
17:51 And again, he can still do the second unit.
17:55 And I think, uh, he'll get his time.
17:57 Yeah.
17:58 And I think, you know, if he forces it in and all that stuff, like might be back on
18:01 it.
18:02 I just think you got to change something.
18:04 And obviously I think they'll have different personnel next year.
18:06 We'll get to that in a second.
18:08 Um, but I think with low riot, least you have a power play quarterback, someone who can
18:14 drive off and someone who can facilitate someone who's not afraid to shoot from the point.
18:19 Um, and I think that's a good thing.
18:21 I think that's a positive to have now going forward in your system and he's like six,
18:26 five.
18:27 So you do have that as he has good reach and, and he has great hands for someone of that
18:31 size.
18:32 Yeah, he really does.
18:34 He really does.
18:35 And I just don't see that in players, uh, like, like him, uh, you know, I don't know.
18:44 I hesitate to use the term unicorn because that's maybe that's a little over, uh, overused
18:49 sometimes in, uh, talking about young players, but he can do things that other guys can't
18:54 do.
18:55 So, uh, it's going to be fun to see how he develops here going forward.
19:00 It's interesting.
19:01 I watch a lot of prospects who are in their draft year, obviously locally, especially
19:06 we watch a lot of those guys.
19:07 And oftentimes when you talk to scouts, you know, you hear you want picks that are easy
19:14 to defend no matter what they turn out to be.
19:18 You know, if a player is big, if a player is really fast, different things, the, the
19:23 size element is always a thing.
19:25 The size element, cause you can defend that.
19:27 Oh, he was six, three.
19:28 He was six or he was six, five.
19:31 I wanted to see what they're, you know, a chance on him.
19:33 Like Dean Latorno is a big one this year.
19:35 There's a lot of debate around whether or not he's a first round pick.
19:37 So for those who don't know, Dean Latorno is, I think he's six, seven.
19:40 He was the St. Andrews college this year.
19:42 Uh, they play a lot of prep teams, just a U 18 guy.
19:46 Um, center right shot, really skilled, put up like 80 points in 30 games, absurd numbers.
19:54 And there's a lot of question marks around.
19:56 Is he a first round pick or is he not?
19:57 Because he's still so raw.
19:58 He's six, seven and he's like 18 years old.
20:00 Like that you're going to be raw at that size, at that age.
20:04 And I wonder like, you know, when apparently it seems to be, you know, when Lowry was drafted,
20:09 I think it was a similar thing of, Hey, this is a defense, a defenseman who just became
20:13 a defenseman.
20:14 He's six, five.
20:16 He's raw, but he's very talented offensively.
20:19 Let's take a flyer on it.
20:20 Let's take a chance on him.
20:21 And they took him in the second round.
20:24 So again, that looks to be something that's aging.
20:26 Well, it's aging like fine wine instead of aging like milk, which is a, which is, which
20:31 is a good thing.
20:32 Um, I want to get into the off season.
20:35 I want to talk guys, uh, that, that you like, what, what, what are positions of need for
20:40 them?
20:41 Uh, but first quick word from our friends over at NBA finals are right around the corner.
20:45 And if you're a Celtics fan, odds are that TD garden is going to be packed in June as
20:50 the Celtics go for Banner 18.

22:34 Now let's get back to the show.
22:36 The off season.
22:37 It's quite the topic, isn't it?
22:40 It's the only topic really.
22:41 So I guess that's what we're going on.
22:44 Well, and they have so much cap space all of a sudden, which hasn't been in the past.
22:54 They've been shopping at the dollar store a lot of times and they got some great buys
23:01 there in some cases, but now they can kind of move up to, I don't know, the Chestnut
23:07 Hill Mall and do some shopping there.
23:12 Not have to worry about the salary cap.
23:17 So it's going to be interesting.
23:19 And I think this has been pointed out several times by other people, I think, and I'll join
23:28 in.
23:29 It's not going to be as good as a lot of fans think it's going to be.
23:34 I don't think they're going to get Jake Ensel.
23:38 I don't think you're going to get, you know, Stephen Stamkos is not coming here.
23:45 I don't think.
23:46 I could be completely wrong.
23:47 He'll be.
23:48 You know, and even if he wanted to, you know, isn't the best part of his career, like in
23:55 the rear view mirror?
23:56 You know, I mean, not to get off on a tangent on that, but you know, the guys I like are
24:04 guys like, you know, I like Tyler Bertuzzi.
24:10 I like what he brings, you know, the attitude, the mindset.
24:15 You know, I think he showed that against the Bruins in the playoffs.
24:19 You know, he's not a perfect player by any stretch.
24:25 He has flaws, but I thought he was good in his brief stretch here last season or two
24:32 seasons ago, and I think he could help again at the right price, at a reasonable price.
24:43 Brady Shea is another guy I really like, you know, they talked about, you know, Cam Neely
24:49 talked about getting faster.
24:53 And while I suspect he was talking more about forwards and about defensemen, you know, great.
24:58 Brady Shea is such a terrific skater.
25:01 I think he'd be an asset to have back there.
25:05 As far as the forwards, obviously they got to get a top flight center.
25:10 That aligned driving center is what they're really lacking that.
25:18 Maybe Lindholm is the answer if he isn't looking for, you know, we don't know what the expectations
25:26 are for some of these free agents.
25:28 Are they looking, is Lindholm looking for 11 million a year for five years or something
25:34 like that?
25:35 Well, if that's the case, then scratch him off the list.
25:38 Have fun in Detroit.
25:39 Get ready to learn Detroit Red Wings, buddy.
25:42 Yeah.
25:43 And so, I mean, I'll be curious to see what are they willing to pay?
25:47 Are they going to make, would they make somebody a top center coming here?
25:53 Would they make him the highest paid guy on the team?
25:56 Would they give him more than pasta?
25:58 Would they, you know, where would he slot in, in the salary structure?
26:03 So I think Lindholm would be a good fit.
26:11 You know, there's other guys out there who would help certainly.
26:15 And there's probably someone that may be a trade or I guess would have to be a trade,
26:21 but there'll be, there could be some under the radar guy.
26:25 You know, the Bruins have done this a bunch of times.
26:29 The guy that ends up coming here is someone you never thought of.
26:32 Oh my God.
26:33 Every time.
26:34 So maybe that'll happen.
26:36 Maybe they'll package Olmark and maybe some other assets and bring in a guy who none of
26:43 us ever thought of.
26:44 But it's going to be fun, you know, starting July 1 and going forward as the summer goes.
26:52 It's going to be, the rumors are going to be flying.
26:54 There's already rumors out there, obviously some ridiculous, some not so ridiculous, but
27:00 I love Swedes talking about how, you know, almost appreciating the ridiculous rumors
27:07 and saying that it keeps attention on the team and all that, even though some of them
27:13 are obviously far-fetched.
27:16 I love the rumors keep us going on like this podcast.
27:19 I do whole shows on rumors.
27:20 I mean, it's perfect for May, June, July.
27:24 Just keep them coming.
27:25 We got to start some for our sake.
27:26 We got to just start throwing stuff out there.
27:28 You know, that's always a good, it's always a good way to do things.
27:30 I'm kidding.
27:31 Of course.
27:32 You mentioned some interesting points in there.
27:36 Brady Shea, that's a name I have not heard brought up for many guests I've had on.
27:43 It seems to me like I've been more advocating on defense for a veteran guy like a Brendan
27:49 Dillon.
27:50 I like him.
27:52 I like what he brings.
27:53 I like his track record to me because of what low-rise can be.
27:57 I think on defense, I would rather spend less, get a veteran.
28:02 Again, I don't know what Dylan's going to cost you, but I think I'd rather have, you
28:06 know, to start the season.
28:08 Let's just say hypothetically, Dylan McAvoy, land home, Carlo low-rise peak as your six.
28:13 And then if low-rise continues to progress, well, that's an easy thing.
28:17 You can put them right up with McAvoy, bring Dylan down to the third pairing and that's
28:20 okay.
28:21 Shea is tough, I think, because Shea is going to get paid.
28:24 And I agree with you, I think it'd be a wonderful addition.
28:27 I just don't know with low-rise coming up, is it worth it for that?
28:32 Now, clearly they are interested in top four left shot defensemen.
28:35 I think they were in on Hannafin and clearly would not mind another guy.
28:41 Do you think that could happen, where they go with a guy like Shea?
28:46 I have no idea.
28:48 No idea.
28:49 That's just somebody I like and I've always liked, you know, from his time when he played
28:55 in the American league.
28:58 But you know, you can't have too many, you know, not to dip into the barrel of cliches
29:05 here, but you can't have too many good defensemen.
29:07 I agree.
29:08 I agree.
29:09 And, you know, a guy who can skate like he can and can move the puck like he can would
29:14 help.
29:16 Obviously, it depends on where he would fit in the, how much are you willing to give that
29:22 guy?
29:23 You know, I think he's 30 years old.
29:25 So you know, what are you going to give him?
29:30 How many years, how much money, that will factor into whether that's a realistic, you
29:37 know, hope.
29:39 But you know, Brendan Dillon, I've never, I think Ryan Moujonel, the Providence coach,
29:48 worked with Brendan Dillon when in the San Jose organization.
29:52 And I know someone else in the pro game who says that Brendan Dillon is like the best
30:00 teammate and the best guy.
30:03 No doubt he would be a good pickup.
30:07 I was worried you'd be like, I heard he was the worst person.
30:10 Damn it.
30:11 All right, cross him off the list.
30:14 That's good to hear.
30:15 How old is he though?
30:16 Isn't he like 33?
30:19 He's older.
30:20 I'll look it up.
30:21 He, I think he's like 34.
30:24 He's 33.
30:25 Okay.
30:26 So, you know, my, I guess my fear or my, I would be apprehensive that, you know, would
30:37 he, would he turn into the next Derek Ford or would he be a whipping boy in short order?
30:45 Sorry, my phone's going off here.
30:48 That's fine.
30:49 That would worry me.
30:50 I mean, I agree with you.
30:51 I agree.
30:52 But for, I think they're different.
30:53 I think they're, they're different in that sense.
30:55 Well, I think, I think Dylan is, is not that, I mean, Forbert was a tough, was a tough guy,
31:03 but I think Dylan's on another level from where Forbert was in terms of fighting and
31:07 stuff like that.
31:09 But I mean, I wouldn't be against Brendan Dillon.
31:13 I, you know, I think that kind of a physical player would be an asset certainly.
31:21 And when you look at these playoffs, you know, and you need guys like that, let's face it,
31:28 you need guys, you need guys that will, that will bang and are willing to fight and will
31:35 stick up for their teammates.
31:36 And he certainly fits that category.
31:39 I agree.
31:40 I mean, the athletic has, Shea is the fifth best free agent and they have this projected
31:44 next contract at seven years, 7.4 million annually, which is, that's a hefty price.
31:49 That's a lot of money.
31:51 But you know, someone will give it to him.
31:53 I just don't, again, I think the Bruins like that, to me, that money should be spent upfront
31:58 on a guy like Lindholm, I think.
31:59 Yes, I agree.
32:01 You got to, you got to slot, if you're going to go after a guy like Shea or someone similar,
32:09 you got to slot that, make sure that fits in the salary structure.
32:12 And if, if you're giving him that much money, then he probably doesn't fit with Boston.
32:17 Yeah.
32:18 And I, you know, I think they have Lindholm at, they have his projected next contract
32:24 at, I just had it.
32:26 I don't know what the article that has it now has previous contract in the space that
32:31 used to say projected next contract.
32:33 So I think the projected next contract for Lindholm, they have it like seven years, 7.9
32:38 million, which again, I'm fine with.
32:41 I agree with you.
32:42 I think that, you know, money needs to be spent getting a line driving center.
32:46 Now you bring up an interesting point of like, would they pay someone more than Pasternak
32:51 and judging by the free agent class of centers, right?
32:54 Lindholm, Chandler Stevenson, who I also really like, he's a guy I think that would bring
32:58 up speed.
32:59 Yup.
33:00 I don't think you're paying more than Pasternak for those guys.
33:03 I don't, and Lindholm is right there with them.
33:05 I don't think you're paying more than.
33:06 Yeah, I don't think anyone's getting more than pasta.
33:09 I, you know, that just would, that would be unbrewing like to, to make a move like that.
33:16 That's just not how they've done business.
33:19 So I like Chandler Stevenson.
33:21 I think that would be a terrific, he's not a number one center.
33:26 Is he a number two center?
33:27 Well, I don't know.
33:28 I guess you can debate that, but he's a very good player.
33:31 He certainly brings speed.
33:34 He brings a lot of speed.
33:37 So I, you know, again, depending on the, how much money you're giving him and what the
33:42 term is, you know, I think he'd improve the, he'd improve the team without a doubt.
33:49 So you, we mentioned rumors and the fun one right now is, I don't know if you saw this
33:54 one in the Ottawa Sun, Lena Solmark to the senators for Jacob Chikran, a first round
34:00 pick and another draft selection.
34:05 That's a very high price.
34:07 So my, what I saw, it is a high price and you know, you got a new GM going in there
34:14 in, in Steve Stahos or is this title GM?
34:18 I don't know, but he's at the top of the, he's the guy making the deals in any case.
34:25 I don't know if it is, is that the trade you want to make right out of the gate when you're
34:30 a new, a new guy in that decision-making hierarchy?
34:34 I don't know.
34:35 I don't know.
34:36 I can't figure that out.
34:37 But the most attractive thing to me, my eyes lit up when I saw a first round draft pick.
34:44 I would first round draft pick.
34:47 Ottawa has a lot of young players in the pipeline.
34:50 I believe they have a lot of picks.
34:53 I mean, that would be, that would be what I would like to see as a first round draft
35:02 pick.
35:03 Does that make the Bruins better next year?
35:06 Probably not.
35:07 Probably not.
35:08 It's probably the pick would be someone who's, you know, playing junior hockey or college
35:13 hockey next year.
35:14 Not a guy who's stepping into your lineup.
35:17 So there's that.
35:18 Chickren.
35:19 Yeah.
35:20 I mean, you know, he's a good player.
35:24 He, no, don't get me wrong, but you know, why does this guy keep getting traded so much?
35:29 I know.
35:30 You know, like that's the thing.
35:32 I don't know.
35:36 So I would rather, I would myself, I would rather have the first round pick and maybe
35:41 another pick or, and or prospect.
35:45 And if you can get that, I I'd like that, but that's not going to make it better next
35:51 year.
35:52 But I think clearly, I mean, all mark, they, they can't, they can't do the two goalie thing
35:59 again.
36:00 They got to, that was great.
36:03 It's been great, but it's time to time to have Swainman be clearly the number one guy,
36:11 have Bussie be the backup and get, you know, hopefully a hall for for all mark, but it
36:20 won't be as much as, you know, when they may, if, and when they make this deal, I can hear
36:25 the afternoon radio show now bashing the Bruins for not getting more.
36:31 Oh yeah.
36:33 I can pencil that segment in right now.
36:35 That's going to, whenever that's going to be a great, yeah, the Bruins blew it.
36:40 Yeah.
36:41 You know, they, they didn't get enough.
36:43 They didn't get enough, you know?
36:45 So I don't know.
36:48 Like I said, the draft pick may makes my, uh, my eyes light up cause they really need,
36:54 they really need a, uh, a top young prospect.
36:59 That's something they don't have at this point and without any picks, it's tough to, uh,
37:05 you know, tough to find those guys.
37:07 Uh, you, you're not going to find those guys in the late in the later rounds.
37:11 You just not.
37:12 And you just hit an interesting point.
37:14 Cause I've been saying all along, if you can get a first for all mark, you take it.
37:18 That's why like Colorado has a first, like all, you know, do it for a first.
37:22 You need it.
37:23 You need to be picking high in the draft.
37:24 You need an influx of young talent, but in terms of getting better for next year, I think
37:28 that added cap space makes you better next year.
37:31 Cause you can go out and trade when else you sign a free agency.
37:35 So like if you can, if you can free up 5.25 million in cap space, I think that's where
37:40 you get better for next year.
37:41 So that's why I'm fine.
37:42 If you want to trade all mark for a first and like a fourth, like auto, you know, again,
37:46 I doubt it'll be Ottawa cause I doubt he would accept a trade there.
37:49 They have two firsts than this draft and they have four fourths.
37:53 Now the Bruins need high draft picks, but if it was a first round pick and a fourth,
37:58 let's just say empathetically, like I'm okay with that.
38:00 If you want to do a first round pick and a prospect, I'm good with that.
38:04 Now I know that people want like, you know, Lena, so Mark for a top six center and a first
38:10 and this is like, if that trade pops up, then sure.
38:13 Or like you want to do something with Marty nature's down in Carolina.
38:16 Okay.
38:17 But this team does need a first.
38:20 This team needs to pick a high level player.
38:23 They need to do it.
38:24 It's been too long since they've done it.
38:26 Um, well one thing Ottawa has is, uh, and he's not, I wouldn't say he's a, he's a number
38:33 one center, but you know, Shane Pinto is a, is a really good player, really good young
38:39 player.
38:40 Uh, probably a number two center.
38:43 Uh, you know, if they got him, you know, I'm kind of thinking out loud here.
38:53 He wouldn't all Mark for Pinto.
38:56 That's not going to fly.
38:57 Uh, you need more than that.
38:59 But what if he was part of it?
39:01 You know, that, uh, that could work.
39:03 That could work.
39:04 You get a young, a top, a top pick and a good young player like Pinto, you know, that's
39:11 not bad.
39:12 That's not bad.
39:13 No, the gambling, the gambling stuff aside, you know, we're not, I'm not even going to
39:18 touch that because I don't know what the hell happened there.
39:20 I don't think anybody does.
39:23 But uh, he's a terrific, he'd be a terrific Bruin.
39:27 Uh, Pinto would, he would be, and he's big too.
39:31 So you do the size things, six, three.
39:34 Um, I think it works.
39:36 And the other thing I mentioned this to Connor Ryan on poke the bear about Ottawa.
39:39 And again, this all hinges on Omar accepting a trade there, which I doubt he would, I think
39:43 it'd be more likely it'd be like Carolina or New Jersey or a team that's just competitive.
39:48 But the interesting thing about Ottawa is they do have like they have as met, they have
39:52 a lot of those young picks coming.
39:54 They have a lot of young players, but they also have current guys who are good to bring
39:58 it.
39:59 Oh, drew.
40:00 Yeah.
40:01 So I don't know, maybe there's a, they can convince them, you know, Ottawa might be kind
40:06 of, uh, uh, what's the word adamant about trying to compete now to satisfy a guy like
40:14 clow drew, um, again, I don't know, thinking out loud here with, with Ottawa stuff, but
40:19 along the lines of prospects, cause you just mentioned it.
40:23 And this has been a topic, a lot of people say, Oh, on defense, you don't need a Dylan.
40:28 You don't need a veteran.
40:29 Just bring up a guy.
40:30 Do the Bruins have anybody in Providence now?
40:32 I'm not counting Beecher or Lauco or low-rider Patra because they're up, but to the Bruins
40:38 have anybody now that can in Providence that can step in next year or could potentially
40:43 step in next year and make an impact off the top of my head?
40:48 I would say no.
40:49 Uh, but then, uh, you know, Parker Wallace spoon did it this year.
40:54 Uh, you know, after a starting in Providence, you know, there's a guy, Mike Callahan.
41:00 Okay.
41:01 I, I feel like he, uh, maybe didn't have the second half of the year that, uh, that it
41:07 looked like he was, he started off strong faded a little bit in the, you know, in the
41:13 second half.
41:14 Uh, I'm thinking maybe, maybe he could be the seventh D playing, you know, as needed,
41:24 but, uh, I wouldn't, uh, I wouldn't take that to the back by any, by any stretch, but in
41:30 terms of anyone else, no, I don't think they've, they've got, uh, guys down there that are
41:37 ready, ready to, uh, to step into an NHL lineup.
41:41 No.
41:42 What about Fabian Lysel?
41:44 Well, I'm kind of hoping that they pencil him in, in, in Boston to start the year.
41:50 One reason being I'm sick of watching them in Providence, you know, uh, and I I'm curious
41:58 to see how it would go in, in Boston, you know, excuse me.
42:06 Because, uh, you know, his, uh, it would be interesting to see if the coaching staff up
42:12 there, you know, what, what would their reaction be to this guy?
42:17 You know, that, you know, for lack of a better term, doesn't play the right way.
42:26 A lot of the time.
42:27 Okay.
42:28 The Bruins talk about that.
42:29 All coaches talk about playing the right way all the time.
42:33 You know, there's too little of that going on with, uh, with this kid.
42:38 Uh, and people, you know, like in the fan base, people are always making excuses for
42:45 him.
42:46 Oh, the Swedish world junior coach.
42:48 He didn't like him.
42:49 He, there was a personality thing there.
42:52 Then, uh, you know, the kid gets hurt and he, it takes him forever to get back in the
42:58 lineup and you know, the team really needs him.
43:01 And he's like, no, I'm not ready.
43:03 I'm not ready.
43:04 I mean, I want to see how that goes over at the NHL level.
43:09 I'm sure it'll go great.
43:10 Oh yeah.
43:11 Yeah.
43:12 And you know, the flip side of that, and this is another thing that the fans keep saying,
43:17 oh, he's young.
43:18 He's young.
43:19 Yeah.
43:20 He's young, but you know, is he all of a sudden going to be this totally committed, uh, blood
43:26 and guts type player?
43:27 Uh, if you put an, an NHL paycheck in front of them.
43:30 We can hope, but, uh, you know, I don't know.
43:35 I, I, I would like to see him in Boston just, just to see what happens, see what happens.
43:41 Oh, this is a kid who thought, came down to Providence talking about what a good camp
43:46 he had last fall.
43:47 Like there's kind of a self-awareness issue there that, you know, he didn't have a good
43:54 camp.
43:55 Nobody, he's the only one saying he had a good camp, but if he had a good camp, you
44:00 know, they're dying to plug a guy like that into the lineup in Boston and when he's ready.
44:06 Uh, so I mean, he's still a work in progress.
44:14 They have been patient.
44:15 They have been patient with him.
44:16 It's only been two years, but you know, at the end of two full years as a pro, even though
44:23 he's, yeah, he's young.
44:25 Uh, I would have hoped for more, uh, more progress from him, but, uh, we'll see.
44:31 Uh, I think he'll be, uh, a lot of eyes will be on him in training camp.
44:36 Uh, you know, thinking that this is the year and maybe it is.
44:40 I hope it is.
44:41 I hope he, uh, I hope he goes up there and turns into a, you know, everything that maybe
44:46 he hasn't been in the American league.
44:48 You know, that'd be great.
44:50 Yeah.
44:51 I want to see him up because I think the trade value is so low now that I don't think
44:55 it's like, I don't think he has any trade value.
44:57 Yeah.
44:58 I talked to pro Scouts all the time in Providence that watch them on a regular basis and he
45:05 doesn't have a lot of value.
45:06 You know, he just doesn't.
45:07 Well, that's the thing.
45:08 And I think a lot of people say, Oh, you know, you can use Lysell as a trade chip and yeah,
45:13 maybe you could two years ago.
45:14 I don't think that's the case anymore.
45:15 I think he's more of a throw in now, at least what is, and that's just stock.
45:19 If he turns into being a great NHL player, then awesome.
45:22 Like, yeah, but I'm saying right now there's not a lot of value.
45:25 Cause I, and I, I concur with you on that.
45:27 Um, and that's why I want to see him up here.
45:29 I think the problem is, I don't know if they have the spots cause you know, is he going
45:34 to be a fourth liner?
45:36 I don't know.
45:37 Like your third line, it seems pretty set for next year with Frederick, um, potentially
45:41 Patra unless he starts the year in Providence, which could be, could do geeky.
45:46 Um, Brazil, like you have, you're full of third line.
45:52 Lord knows you've got enough third liners sink a ship, but I, so I don't know where
45:56 he slots in.
45:57 That's the thing.
45:58 Well, and I mean, this phrase has come up a couple of times regarding him, uh, discussing
46:07 him with, uh, with pro scouts and executives and such is, uh, he's an independent contractor.
46:15 Okay.
46:16 He's an independent contractor and you know, boy, that goes against everything that the
46:22 Bruins like to think they stand for.
46:24 Right.
46:25 Team first, everyone pulling the rope and you know, so I, I mean, you know, like I said,
46:33 I hope, I hope he gets there and I hope he does well, but I'm skeptical.
46:40 And you know what, you watched him for two years now.
46:42 So you get to be skeptical.
46:43 Like I, I, I completely, I get that.
46:46 I completely agree with it.
46:47 Um, yeah, it should be interesting what happens with Lysell independent contractors, a hell
46:52 of a way to describe independent countries.
46:56 He does his own thing.
46:59 He does his own thing.
47:01 Um, anyways, uh, Mark, what can the people look forward to from you over the summer and
47:07 into the fall?
47:08 Uh, probably not a lot.
47:12 Uh, I, uh, I'll be on here.
47:16 You'll be on here.
47:17 Yeah, I'll be on, uh, I'll be on here.
47:21 I'm going to a development camp.
47:24 If, uh, you know, will they have prospects there?
47:29 Will they have draft picks there?
47:31 Well, that would be nice, but I think it's going to be a lot of familiar faces.
47:35 Uh, you know, the guys we saw last year, maybe a couple sprinkled in, uh, from the most recent
47:41 draft, but the guy I'm really, and you know, not to go off on a tangent here, but the guy
47:48 I'm excited to see at development camp is a kid named Gleb Verameev from Colorado college.
47:55 Excuse me, undrafted big kid, six, three, six, four power winger.
48:01 You know, not the great, he's not a, uh, you know, he's not a kid with a set of golden
48:07 hands, but his hands are good enough and I think he'll be a top free agent, uh, in college
48:13 hockey this coming season.
48:15 He's coming to Bruins camp.
48:16 I think that he'll be, uh, he'll be a player to watch.
48:20 Uh, yeah, of course, coming to camp doesn't, you know, you like to think it gives them
48:25 maybe an inside track and signing him, but you know, they had Reese Gaber here.
48:31 They had, uh, Ben Myers here in recent years, you know, top guys in the free agent market,
48:37 uh, in college and neither one of them ended up here.
48:41 So, you know, you can't really count on the fact that he's coming to mean that, you know,
48:48 at the end of next season, he's gonna, he's gonna land a show contract with Boston, but
48:54 it'll be good to see him, see him up close and you know, what he brings.
48:58 I think, uh, you know, I'm, I'm looking forward to that, uh, you know, at that development
49:04 camp.
49:05 Uh, and geez, I don't have a lot else on the plate, uh, this summer.
49:10 It's going to be, uh, it's going to be a lot of, uh, a lot of, uh, rest and relaxation.
49:16 I guess I got, I got my, uh, I got my tomatoes in the ground.
49:20 I got my pumpkins, you know, growing.
49:23 So, uh, you know, think of me like, uh, in the, uh, in the godfather when, uh, when he's
49:31 in the tomato garden with his grandson, uh, godfather with the, the hat, the sun hat,
49:39 uh, that's going to, I'm going to be striking that pose.
49:42 Uh, my granddaughter is going to be running around in and out of the, uh, the tomatoes
49:47 and I'm just going to be sitting there maybe drinking some wine, you know, who knows?
49:50 Yeah.
49:51 Let's get some wine.
49:52 Why not?
49:53 Why not?
49:54 Come on.
49:55 You deserve it.
49:56 Um, that's perfect.
49:57 And you'll be at the Foxborough sports center every Wednesday with me.
50:00 So I will.
50:01 And you know, the rosters there, uh, that's going to be fun.
50:05 That's going to be fun.
50:06 Yeah.
50:07 No good.
50:08 Oh, nines.
50:09 A lot of those kids, you know, will be, there'll be, as we know from past experience, there'll
50:17 be weeks where nobody's there cause they're all at national camp.
50:21 But, uh, you know, there's going to be a lot of good players there.
50:25 A lot of, a lot of, uh, fun players to watch and see.
50:29 And kids will, kids will come out of nowhere.
50:31 Kids we didn't know cause we didn't expect much up, much of will, uh, will emerge and
50:37 it should be fun.
50:38 It, uh, it always is.
50:40 It always is.
50:41 It always is.
50:42 And it's, you're right.
50:43 It's good to see kind of for the next season.
50:44 Uh, and there's a lot, I mean, you been there way longer than I have there.
50:49 Lots of former NHLers have gone through there.
50:51 Um, so it's always a fun event to watch and to see kind of the future.
50:56 Um, anyways, Mark, always a pleasure.
51:00 Uh, that's been this week's Brisby presented by prize picks and game time.
51:04 I'm Evan Baranofsky, Brisby listeners.
51:06 Have a great rest of your week.
