Halaga ng mga nasira sa agriculture sector dahil sa Bagyong #AghonPH, pumalo na sa P11.8-M ayon sa D.A.; ahensiya, nagsagawa ng price monitoring
Transcript
00:00 Some families in Metro Manila were called by the Department of Agriculture
00:05 to conduct a price monitoring of meat products
00:09 following the cut of the typhoon Agon.
00:11 Cresel Partilla is in the center of the news live.
00:16 Audrey, the cost of agriculture in the area of Baguio-Agon has already exceeded P11 million.
00:25 But according to the Department of Agriculture, the food supply in our country is still sufficient.
00:31 Even so, the DA has already conducted a trade check in some supermarkets
00:36 to check the price of food, especially pork.
00:40 The Department of Agriculture conducted a price monitoring
00:46 following the cut of the typhoon Agon.
00:49 This is to ensure that there is no increase in the price of meat.
00:53 In the three supermarkets that the agency has circled,
00:56 the cheapest price is P345 per pound,
01:01 P263 per pound of pork,
01:04 while P160 per pound of chicken.
01:07 This is far from reaching P420 per pound of pork
01:12 in some markets in Metro Manila.
01:15 If there is a typhoon in Quezon,
01:18 there might be an increase.
01:19 Our trade check is to ensure that there is available, affordable, and accessible food
01:24 that we can buy without taking advantage of other people.
01:26 We will not be affected by the price fluctuations of local and imported meat.
01:30 Being in a retail-centric setting, we need to be on a day-in-day-out.
01:35 They will reach 2,300 apuestos across the country
01:40 who are buying up to KKK (Kilograms) of meat.
01:42 The DA will also assist those who are raising pigs and chickens,
01:46 as well as other stakeholders to determine how to reduce the price.
01:52 He will also focus on reducing the production cost,
01:56 especially in food and livestock.
01:59 That is our challenge, to reduce the production cost.
02:02 In our corn, 60% of it is local production.
02:06 So we can increase the local production,
02:11 less importation.
02:13 The farm gate will be lowered.
02:15 The difference will be higher.
02:18 From the farm, going to the consumers,
02:21 there is a need to fix it.
02:25 Audrey, the Department of Agriculture has spread information
02:31 that in places where there is a flood,
02:35 there are crops in the province of Quezon and Laguna.
02:39 The DA has already prepositioned or placed the help to distribute it
02:44 so that it can start again, recover, and plant again.
02:48 Most of those affected are those who planted rice early.
02:53 On the other hand, the rice supply and other agricultural products remain sufficient.
02:59 Audrey?
03:00 Okay, Clay. Aside from the price of chicken and pork,
03:04 like you said, if there is a flood like this,
03:09 the crops affected will also be affected.
03:11 Is there a possibility, based on the study of the Department of Agriculture,
03:15 that the price of vegetables will increase in the next few days
03:18 because of the flood?
03:20 Yes, Audrey. According to the monitoring of the Department of Agriculture
03:28 and our past reports,
03:30 there is an increase in the price.
03:33 Our monitoring,
03:34 the price of vegetables increased from P5 to P20,
03:39 especially the Tagalog vegetables that are mixed with Pinakbet.
03:43 That is the common crop in Quezon Province and Laguna.
03:48 So that is what we observed, a price increase.
03:51 But the Department of Agriculture also said that it is easy to recover
03:56 and it is easy to replant these vegetables.
04:00 That is why the agency expected that the price of our vegetables will return to normal.
04:06 What the DA is really focusing on is the price of pork
04:09 because the agency noticed that the price of pork is falling to P420 per kilo.
04:16 So the DA will help the stakeholders to know the root of the problem
04:21 and whether the price of pork will reach that point.
04:25 Audrey?
04:26 Thank you very much, Clay.
