00:00 Laika has been a cashier for 3 months.
00:06 Even though she is thankful for her job,
00:09 she admits that her salary is not enough as a minimum wage earner here in NCR.
00:15 I am also very busy.
00:17 I am also sending money to my family.
00:20 It's also a burden because it's expensive to buy.
00:24 I have to pay for food everyday.
00:27 That's why Laika's colleagues are asking for an increase in the minimum wage earners' salary.
00:33 It's increasing, sir.
00:35 Because now, the prices are increasing.
00:39 The workers are now asking for the government's help.
00:43 In fact, the Labor Department is now conducting a consultation
00:47 with various groups of workers to discuss the possible increase in the minimum wage in Metro Manila.
00:54 This is also in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
00:58 to increase the wage rates of workers.
01:01 We are reviewing now the socioeconomic conditions in the region
01:05 as well as the inputs of the labor sector.
01:08 Our mandate is to review if we need to adjust the minimum wage in the NCR.
01:22 We will have to balance the interests of both the labor and the employer sector.
01:29 Along with the consultation of NEDA and DTI,
01:32 the labor groups also had the opportunity to present their opinions and comments,
01:37 even their position paper that will be the guide of the authorities
01:41 in deciding on the minimum wage adjustment.
01:44 We are mindful of the directive of our President.
01:49 That's why as early as now, last week, it was already 60 days.
01:55 We will make sure that all sectors are heard in this discussion.
02:04 After the consultation, it will be followed by a meeting with the sector of employers on June 4.
02:10 And there will be a public hearing on June 20.
02:13 The wage deliberation will start on June 20 with the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.
02:20 We will be fair and we will listen to all the opinions of both the labor and employer,
02:29 as well as not only our other sectors
02:36 that can help us to arrive at a very fair wage determination.
02:44 As of now, the minimum wage in the NCR is P610.
02:48 It is not yet determined how much the possible increase in wages will be.
