00:00Charlie, we've discussed Wolves and their issues with VAR this season. Obviously, they've
00:05been on the back of some, let's be frank, awful decisions. What are the changes that
00:11could be coming into play or are being discussed and how that could help prevent some frustrations
00:18for Wolves fans?
00:19Yes, it's been a really horrible season, hasn't it? You being a Wolves fan yourself, Charles,
00:24so many times we've discussed it on and off air, just how frustrating it is. There could
00:28be some changes, though, which might help things out a little bit to smooth out, iron
00:33out some of the issues. One of them being semi-automated offsides has been officially
00:37announced for next season in the Premier League, a little bit like we saw in the World Cup
00:41and we've seen across some of other Europe top leagues. It just means that there's a
00:46bit more AI involved rather than humans at Stockley Park drawing lines. That's so often
00:51the case, isn't it, where we're moaning about when the line was taken, what split screen
00:56it was, whether that was in the right time, if it left the foot or not, and then whether
01:00the line is accurate. We saw with Coventry vs Manchester United that the line was actually
01:04over Wan-Bissaka's foot and that it made a heavy impact. That's in a huge game in the
01:08FA Cup semi-final. They could have got a championship team through to the final. It would have been
01:13amazing, but the AR let them down in the end. Of course, that one wasn't in the Premier
01:17League, that wasn't in the FA Cup and it wasn't Wolves, but it just shows that having some
01:22more technology might be able to iron things out slightly.
01:25And then another change that's potentially going to be introduced is for fan transparency.
01:30You know, when you sat in the crowd and there's a big decision going on, three, four, five
01:33minutes are passing, you're thinking, this is just ridiculous. We want our game back.
01:37We can't celebrate anymore, et cetera. Well, they're now thinking of bringing in a system
01:42for the referees to speak to the fans in the stadiums using the public announcement system.
01:48Whether that comes in or not awaits to be seen, but Howard Webb, who is the PGL Moel
01:53chief has suggested that it should come in. I think we've seen it in women's football
01:58or it's going to be introduced in women's football at the World Cup or Euros, I think
02:02he was mentioning. So I think there's going to be a trial taking head this summer. We
02:07might see it in the Premier League if the clubs agree on it. So yeah, that would make
02:11things better, I think, just having a bit more transparency with the fans and Wolves
02:15in particular, Charles. How much of an impact would it have if you'd actually been told
02:19why these decisions have happened? It would be less frustrating, wouldn't it?
02:22Yeah, definitely. Obviously, it's really impacted the season. But in terms of the season as
02:28a whole, obviously going into it, so many pin Wolves as relegation favourites to finish
02:3419th, maybe not 20th, but definitely, definitely relegated. Let's just look at the season as
02:39a whole. Obviously, we've discussed their star players. They've had some fantastic impact
02:43players, whether it be Lamina or Gomez or the front three we've discussed. How would
02:49you rate their season out of 10? Obviously, it's not been as good as it could have been.
02:53Probably VAR injuries sort of impacting that quite a lot. But in terms of where people
02:59thought they would be and where they are now, how can you sort of rate it out of 10?
03:03I think it's probably an 8 or a 9 out of 10. I think the only way you can really improve
03:07it is by getting European football or top half maybe makes it a 9 if that can be secured.
03:12Gary O'Neill has done such an incredible job with such limited resources, hardly any transfers
03:17at all, couldn't bring in a new striker, the injury problems, the lack of squad depth to
03:22start the season. To be in 11th place as we're speaking, potentially having top half on the
03:26cards is amazing. Just as close they are to the top four than they are relegation. And
03:32so many people had them down to finish in the bottom three. So a really good season,
03:37really strong from them and togetherness is back in the model. It's great to see.
