00:00 "That's why today, July 4th, 2076, 300 years after our great nation began, we gather together
00:09 to honor the completion of Vault 76."
00:13 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 biggest differences between
00:19 Fallout 76 at launch and its state in 2024.
00:24 "War."
00:25 "War."
00:26 "War."
00:27 "War."
00:28 "War."
00:29 "War never changes."
00:32 Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:36 Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:42 Technical Stability.
00:49 It's almost hard to believe that Fallout 76 launched way, way back in 2018, and somehow,
00:56 for some otherworldly reason, Bethesda continued supporting the game for the thousands of players
01:01 who stuck with it.
01:03 So has the game become more technically sound than it was back then?
01:07 Well, for the most part, yeah.
01:09 Fallout 76 is still prone to crashing every once in a while, but you aren't seeing server-wide
01:14 crashes constantly or parts of the world outright failing to load in.
01:19 As for the framerate, the game is much more stable than it used to be.
01:23 Framerates could be a bit more consistent on PC, but on console, you can expect a smooth
01:28 60 frames per second on PlayStation 5, and a little bit less than that on Series XS.
01:39 Onboarding.
01:50 One of Fallout 76's greatest strengths right now is how it onboards new players.
01:55 This is something many live service games struggle with, as they keep pumping out more
02:00 and more updates, expansions, and the like.
02:03 But Fallout 76 caters to new players in a few different ways.
02:07 Upon exiting the vault, you will be asked if you want to build your character as you
02:11 level up, or if you would like to jump to level 20 with one of several different special
02:16 card loadouts tacked onto your character.
02:19 Even if you choose the former, you'll get to choose from solid special cards as you
02:23 level up, so don't expect too big of a slog when you're starting fresh.
02:39 Donation boxes.
02:46 In case you need a little bit of extra help in finding better equipment or additional
02:50 supplies like food, stim packs, and crafting materials, there is a new feature that wasn't
02:55 here at launch.
02:57 Scattered across the world are donation boxes.
03:00 These boxes contain items left behind by other players who may not have had use for them
03:05 or had an excess amount of particular items.
03:08 Before this, players would just drop items randomly in the world, and they would be stored
03:13 in generic paper brown bags.
03:15 Brown bags are still there, mind you.
03:18 But with this method, it's now easier for folks to lessen their load while helping others
03:22 in more concentrated spots without hoping some rando comes along.
03:32 Enemy variety.
03:42 Back in the first year or so after launch, Fallout 76 was not too exciting when it came
03:47 to enemy variety.
03:48 You mostly fought ghouls, scorched, scorched ghouls, scorched feral ghouls, and well, just
03:54 anything ghoul.
03:56 That was pretty much it.
03:57 There were some other enemies like radroaches and mutants and rogue robots here and there,
04:03 mole miners and mole rats were in a few areas as well, and deathclaws came around in high
04:08 level areas.
04:09 Thankfully though, combat is spiced up a bit with even more enemies both new and older
04:14 from previous Fallout games.
04:16 But the biggest change is in the legendary enemies.
04:19 Not only do they spawn in more reasonable areas, they also drop items equal to their
04:25 level.
04:26 In the game's first year, it was common to find enemies 10 levels above you, barely
04:30 make it out of fights alive, and only get a Mirelurk meat or a couple of crafting materials
04:35 out of the fight.
04:36 It wasn't worth it back then.
04:45 Fast Travel
04:46 One of the most annoying aspects of Fallout 76 at launch was how it handled fast travel.
04:51 This may sound hard to believe, but fast travel was made to be just as annoying as manually
04:56 getting from one area of the world to the other.
04:59 In order to access fast travel, you would have to save up on caps as the distance between
05:04 you and where you wanted to go would determine how expensive fast travel would be.
05:08 If you strayed too far from your camp and were on the verge of death but could not afford
05:12 fast travel, this system would straight up kill some people's desire to keep playing.
05:17 Thankfully, that is no longer an issue, for the most part.
05:21 Fallout 76 does allow you to fast travel for free within a certain radius, but any further
05:27 and you'll have to pony up roughly 40-50 caps.
05:30 It all depends on where you're fast traveling from.
05:33 But hey, it's not as expensive as it used to be.
05:38 Expeditions
05:46 Another painful part of Fallout 76 in its original state was its grind for materials
05:51 and currency.
05:52 In order to conduct an expedition, you needed to acquire enough ultrasails to power up a
05:57 vertibird.
05:58 Not only that, but all players needed to be present at the vertibird in order to travel
06:02 together.
06:04 But after the once in a blue moon update in 2023, that is no longer the case.
06:09 Expeditions no longer require ultrasails to initiate, and your friends can join you mid-expedition
06:14 in case you need some help at the last minute or someone is running late to game night.
06:27 Combat Balance
06:35 As we mentioned earlier, combat used to be a bit of a problem with legendary enemies.
06:39 You could be fighting through a horde of ghouls at level 12 or 13 only to be ambushed by another
06:44 ghoul several levels above you.
06:46 Well, in addition to adjustments in enemy variety and level scaling, weapons and weapon
06:51 mods have also seen some tweaks in their stats, while stats revolving around science actually
06:56 affect energy weapons, as they should have from the beginning.
07:00 In other words, the combat of Fallout 76 now feels much more in line with the previous
07:05 games from Bethesda.
07:06 Well, if we're not looking at VATS, that is.
07:15 Public Events
07:23 In order to keep Fallout 76 exciting for players, Bethesda incorporated the concept of public
07:28 events.
07:29 Every 20 minutes, one of these events would spawn in the server.
07:33 Unfortunately, at launch, the pool of rotating events was very, very small.
07:40 We could only spend so long fighting hordes while defending a factory before it starts
07:44 to get really boring.
07:47 But now, you can take part in a moonshine jamboree, cryptid hunting, and even play some
07:52 Nuka World Carnival games.
07:54 The world feels much more alive now, and the seasonal events really add to the normal rotation
07:59 when those roll around.
08:13 Active Expansions
08:24 Since 2018, Fallout 76 has introduced a variety of game modes to try and give players other
08:29 things to do besides go exploring the mountains and mines.
08:34 Nuclear Winter was fun...for about ten minutes.
08:37 But since then, we've seen a few big expansions get added in.
08:41 Steel Dawn and Steel Rain introduced a whole new questline involving the Brotherhood of
08:45 Steel.
08:46 Then, in 2022, we saw the return of The Pit, which was originally an expansion for Fallout
08:52 3.
08:53 Then, in late 2023, we got the first part of an expedition that took us to Atlantic
08:58 City, New Jersey.
08:59 The second half launched in late March 2024.
09:02 And do you want to know what the biggest expansion in Fallout 76 really is?
09:14 Proper NPCs
09:24 The Wastelanders expansion filled in the biggest void Fallout 76 left open, the NPCs.
09:31 Sure, there were some NPCs at launch, but those were primarily stores and facilities
09:37 run by some Mr. Handies.
09:39 Other than that, there weren't really any characters to move the story along outside
09:44 of holotapes.
09:45 But over the years, questlines have been heavily tweaked to incorporate more and more NPCs
09:51 in order to properly tell the game's story.
09:54 Basically, we finally have the Fallout experience that we should have gotten in 2018, and it's
10:01 loaded up with unique stories, characters, and, of course, moral dilemmas.
10:17 Have you been heading back down the country roads of Fallout 76?
10:20 We've definitely been hearing her voice in the morning hour again.
10:24 But let us know down in the comments, and be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays for more
