00:00Malaysia is expecting an influx of Chinese visitors during their Labor Day Golden Week
00:07holiday.
00:08Tourism Malaysia said the figures collated from airlines and travel agencies showed that
00:13there is a 30 percent increase in bookings this year compared to the same period last
00:17year.
00:18The Labor Day Golden Week, which runs from May 1st to 5th, is one of three major holidays
00:23in China, after the Chinese New Year and National Day celebrations.
00:28It is considered a long break, but the number of bookings to Malaysia has increased tremendously.
00:34Our target for Chinese tourists this year is five million, and based on the number of
00:39seats we have right now, direct seat capacity to Malaysia is already four million plus,
00:45and to our neighboring country is already six million.
00:47So Chinese tourists always combine.
00:49We have a total of 10 million plus seat capacity on a yearly basis.
00:53So to achieve the number of five million is not an impossible target.
00:58We have seen that the Chinese tourists using the facilities as our causeway has gone up
01:03tremendously.
01:04Right now, there's a lot of chartered flights going directly to Tawang.
01:08Tawang has become one of the favorite destinations for people from China currently.
01:13It is like a flavor of the month.
01:16But we hope the other destinations also will pick it up.
01:20Tourism Malaysia said the figures have not completely returned to pre-pandemic levels
01:24yet, with 2019 figures 15 percent higher.
01:28With the visa-free policy eligible for Chinese and Indian tourists to Malaysia, the government
01:33expects a surge in tourist arrivals this year.
01:37Travel agencies in China also reportedly said they expect outbound tourists to skyrocket
01:42by 370 percent compared to last year.
01:46Data from online tourism service providers also reportedly showed that the travel enthusiasm
01:51for this year's Labor Day holiday will be greater than that of last year.
